Diner Reviews
  • "Harry Caray's has a simple menu along with appetizers and beer selection. Nothing too spectacular, however I found the calamari and fish n chips large enough to share with table. Many screens to watch Chicago sports as well as reminisce on all the memorabilia."

  • "When we first sat down, I looked at the menu and asked, "Where are the steaks?" But this version of Haray Caray is a pub, with its own virtues. We split an order of Bang Bang shrimp poppers, then both had an Italian beef sandwich, very like a French Dip but with the meat spiced Italian style . Very tasty. Wines are OK. We will return."

  • "I reserved this restaurant for our family while visiting the Navy Pier in April. We were seated right away but the waiter didn't come take our drink order for close to a half an hour after we were seated and then it took another 10-15 minutes for him to bring back our soda and water. The waiter was unfriendly and absent during most of our dinner. The food was mediocre and overpriced. If you get one of the tables located between the rows of booths the guests in the booths are seated facing toward you during your whole meal which can be awkward. We were very disappointed and would not recommend Harry Carey's Tavern there are much better options on the Navy Pier."

  • "There were plenty of things to look at, I especially liked the old sports pages on the wall."

  • ". . . . limited than what is listed on website. Our appetizer order was lost, came much later. Entrees (salad and burgers) were as tasty as expected. Drink refills were prompt. Out of towners might enjoy, we just wanted a decent bite to eat while on the Pier."

  • "i thought the food was greasy and way over priced for what you received. Also there was a sense of being rushed and service was poor."

  • "Chris was great, food was okay. Service and change to earlier time was very good."

  • "Decent bar/beer, average food, good service, tourist friendly but more hype than substance."

  • "We often dine at Harry Caray's Tavern before attending Chicago Shakespeare Theater. The food is always very good and the service excellent. This time we had fish and chips and a BBQ chicken sandwich, both of which were very good and service as usual was quick and attentive."

  • "Stopped in before going to the Chicago Shakespeare Theater. Waitress was very attentive and food was served promptly. Never felt rushed or abandoned. Had a turkey burger that was delicious and rather filling. Great beer selection."

  • "Our waitstaff was very attentive even with handling a large party. He made our birthday celebration special by having the staff sing to my niece. Food was good too. One of my favorite places to celebrate with family."

  • "Was hoping for a more in-depth menu -- we were going to the Chicago Shakespeare Theater and wanted more of a "dinner" not bar food (they did have two specials that were more in line with a dinner entree). We have been to other Harry Caray restaurants and were expecting more options then burgers, sandwiches and pizza. What we had was good; we split fried calamari, barbecue chicken pizza and the Santa Fe salad. The Chipotle Ranch dressing on the salad was disappointing -- not much flavor (like the "chipotle" was missing). Our waitress charged us for a beer we didn’t order. When brought to her attention she was rather nonchalant I would have expected her to be more apologetic."

  • "Waiter not very knowledgeable, had to send our bloody marys back. All four were awful - no taste! Probably the bartender's error. Our waiter took them back and the second round was right on! No clue what happened. Our group of four was not overly impressed with our food, but still the experience was pleasant. Lots of construction happening on Navy Pier - made the view and parking a huge mess."

  • "Just love the character of this place. Food and service are always top notch. I had the salmon and it was divine. Friends had burgers and raved. Drinks were yummy too ! Great dinner and kick off to a fun night."

  • "Another good experience! Always happy and fun to go too. Wish the menu was a little bigger...but what they have was great!"

  • "This is good, quick food. Sit down restaurant quality, but quick. With a nice bar and good bar tenders. It is the only other restaurant on the pier that is not a bar and serve liquor besides Riva, which is really good but really expensive. It is a good place for before or after the IMAX or a show at Shakes."

  • "way more casual than I was expecting. Limited menu nothing noteworthy, good burger, nice appetizers. Seemed to aimed at family type outing, lot's of stuff for children to choose from"

  • "My turkey burger was delicious. My bubbly was cold. The green beans were not to be missed. Good bet on Navy Pier."

  • "We usually dine here before attending Chicago Shakespeare Theater and always find the service very quick and the food good. It is a very reliable place to dine, although this time they were obviously short of some help, but even so service was good and there was no problem finishing in time to walk to the theater."

  • "I was disappointed in the menu. Seems like you could add a little more flavor/challenge. Its a nice location with plenty of seating and the menu is probably great for summer. Disappointing in the winter."

  • "When the hostess seated us, she informed us that the several open booths were closed for the evening even though it was only 6 PM. Shortly after we ordered, she sat another couple at one of the so-called closed booths. This was very annoying. Our server was great but the food was merely adequate."

  • "Great place for a quick bite before a show. The sports memorabilia & tv's are standard sports bar, but the leather booths and dark wood paneling kick it up a notch. A standard but limited menu doesn't change seasonally. On the plus side, you always know what is available."

  • "great restaurant for a casual dinner out. Burger was great. For a busy night on Navy Pier we did not feel rushed and the service was great."

  • "I loved the fried ravioli. Margherita pizza wasn't bad. Their double burger is one of the best in Chicago. My husband liked the wings. Watched the Blackhawks game there. Excellent service."

  • "It is my go- to- place when I am at Navy Pier and when I have my Shakespeare tickets. Food always good, choice much better now than several years ago. Service is excellent. Staff is friendly and attentive. Ambience is fun and look forward to the summer outdoor tables also."

  • "The menu online did not match with what we were presented. Our waiter was absent minded and did not bring the drinks we ordered. Lucky for us he did not charge us for them. My turkey sandwich was good but my wifes's Caesar salad and soup were not good. Considering that they were not that busy would of thought the food and service would have been better."

  • "Seated most of our party but when the remaining person came, they didn't know we were there and could not find the reservation. Ordered soft pretzel app, when delivered the waiter said to be careful they were VERY hot. They were in fact FORZEN. Our entrees came, my husband and I ordered the same dish but I did not get all the sides (salsa) that he did. My fish tacos were very dry with no salsa. Not a good experience at all."

  • "Saturday afternoon; placed on the wait list and were told approximately 20-25 minutes. After 45+ minutes I checked the status of our table and it was discovered we were overlooked for seating. They quickly pulled together two tables and we were seated but half of our party faced the lake and were looking directly into the sun for most of our meal. While we waited to be seated we were at the bar. Unfortunately the bartender was very unfriendly. We arrived Sat. afternoon for a late lunch and informed the staff we would not use our dinner reservation at 8pm. We asked them to cancel so the tables could be given to others."

  • "We stopped in before heading down the pier to a play. We wanted a quick meal - a couple of salads with a glass of wine - and the wait staff was more than happy to help us out: the food arrived almost immediately. Of the two salads, the Southwestern Chicken was the better choice and the one I will order next time we go. At the table next to us an extended family was enjoying an evening out - the young boys were entertaining themselves with the parents and grand parents chatted, but no one seemed to mind. A fun evening for them and a quick meal for us. We'll be back."

  • "Burger was tasteless and was sent to the table missing the toppings. After they brought the toppings it didn't help the taste much. Server was good but didn't help with the food quality."

  • "For those of you looking to eat at Harry Caray's without spending the extra money at the "Italian Steakhouse" versions, check out Navy Pier and go to the "Tavern". We went on a rainy Tuesday for lunch and had a room almost to ourselves. We were able to watch the boats and the tourists go by outside and if we looked to our side we could catch up on the latest sports news. I recommend the toasted ravioli and the clam chowder as appetizers. We had burgers for our entree which were big, juicy, and served with excellent french fries. The portions are on the large size, so you can share if you have a smaller appetite. Also check out the memorabilia and pictures on the walls on your way out."

  • "Harry Caray's at the Navy Pier offered good food in large portions at a reasonable price. Located at the front of the pier, it is easily reached by public transportation. The Pier itself offers some entertainment and water views."
