Diner Reviews
  • "Group of six that was a business/pleasure occasion. One couple was from out of town and had never experienced H&I - you did not disappoint anyone. Our server was fabulous, as was the food. Always top notch!"

  • "We had a great meal. Great service. The steak was just really special, and cooked just as I like it."

  • "I had my family from Japan in, and they wanted American steak dinner (and they've previously been to St. Elmo's and requested some place new). What better place than Harry and Izzy's! We had ordered appetizers, soups, steaks, and lobster, and everything seemed very "American" and delicious. The big finale was the brownie sundae, and my mother is still talking about how good it was three days later."

  • "I have been to Harry and Izzy's several times and I just am never thrilled with my meal. Other than the shrimp cocktail there is nothing that really stands out as a memorable or a dish I HAVE to get again. While I like that is local and prefer to support local restaurants...it just isn't up there with Flemings or Capital Grille."

  • "Pathetic. Harry & Izzy's Northside has become just as pathetic at handling large groups just at the Downtown location has always been. We had seven people and they had a 2 week notice. 4 of 7 meals were wrong and all of them were served cold. The only thing worse than the food, was the server. They gave me a discount but that is totally immaterial when it comes to a business dinner. I have two other reservations for this month but I have moved them down the road to a professional steak house that can handle a business dinner."

  • "Starting with the shrimp cocktail, it can't be bad! One of the top alternatives on the northside for lunch or dinner."
    Dined on 7/16/2014
  • "Above average. Enjoyed a good dinner with business associates. Limited beer selection, above average food, but just a bit overpriced for the value."

  • "Overall, this is an excellent restaurant. It has the "steakhouse" ambiance -- dark woods, soft dark-leather chairs, big and unique bar, wine wall, white-coated waiters, etc. It's "proper", but not overly formal. The staff and waiters were smiling and very friendly. The steaks were GREAT -- melt-in-your-mouth tender and perfectly cooked. Some of the side items were pretty ordinary, though. A small drawback is the shopping mall location, but once you're inside, it's good. We will undoubtedly go back again sometime, and I will certainly recommend Harry & Izzy's to friends."

  • "Seated us promptly, served 8 of us ranging from kid to grandparents. Service was tremendous. Food was excellent. Had a great evening."

  • "For the price of the entrees, I think this establishment is overrated. The lamb and pork chop entrees, as well as the pasta entree were all a little overdone; it was obvious they had been sitting around awhile before being brought to the table. Also, the bar service wasn't too prompt. Atmosphere was nice, wine prices by the glass were high...though that's not unusual. Often in great restaurants someone from management may stop by the table to ask if everything is up to expectations, but that didn't happen, though the manager was around. Just another overpriced restaurant in a strip mall."

  • "Outside Dining was nice but short on service. Had to go to the bar to get my beer. My server forgot that I ordered it."

  • "Couldn't be more impressed, especially how thorough they were in understanding and accommodating food allergies. Just terrific!!!"

  • "Food was just OK. Nothing spectacular, steak was tender and tasty as usual. Sides (mushrooms and potato pancakes) and salad (romaine with walnuts) were somewhat bland. Tables were available in the main area, but we were seated in the back area that had no ambience and very chilly in temperature. On the plus side, our waitress was very knowledgeable on wine selection and attentive throughout dinner. She was very pleasant and cheerful."

  • "Service was superb. Our waitress named Camille was awesome. The medium rare steak was not the best. It was slightly pink, but not very juicy. The outdoor seating was lovely."

  • "My friends and I love Harry and Izzy's and go there frequently; it's one of my favorite restaurants. Sitting on the back patio that overlooks the river is wonderful on a summer night. Tonight's dinner was very good, as usual, but the service wasn't up to par. The beet salad was outstanding, as always, and the blackened cod was well-prepared, although rather bland. I suspect that our server didn't bring the food out when ready because the fish was lukewarm and H & I's usually fab french fries were limp and tepid. We waited a long time for our drinks, and then she didn't return to take our order for over 20 minutes; we finally had to summon her to take it. Very inattentive. Too bad tonight's service wasn't up to par, but we'll return."

  • "Our server was not attentive to our needs.. He kept forgetting about us. Took over a hour to come and get our food order.. The restaurant was pretty empty, so he wasn't busy with a lot of customers.. He was running his mouth with his friends! The food, was ok! I really enjoyed their French onion soup! And the restaurant manager was WONDERFUL! If it wasn't for her, I wouldn't recommend this restaurant!"

  • "Dinner for two just under $300. Without wine would have been $200. The famous steaks were bland and not good. I have had better cuts from Marsh. The sautéed mushrooms looked and tasted like they were dumped out of a can. We were passed around from server to server as one told us she was leaving for the evening, yet took at least two tables after she told us that. Why? Then water glasses sat empty, and we poured our own wine. For the price we paid, I would expect spotless service and food that is beyond memorable. Not going back, and not recommending."

  • "we had a party of 5 and sat at a round table, which i like. it was not an "energetic" noise level. it was LOUD and conversation was difficult. food was great."

  • "The good was great! Ambience was notable but can't compare to downtown. The booth we sat in felt cramped and I'm not big. It was a Sunday, and things were running slow. One of us had to leave to be somewhere at a certain time, and it seemed we had to wait awhile to get the check after we were finished. We were there for almost two hours. It was a birthday dinner and they offered a free dessert as well as a note from the staff wishing a Happy Birthday!"

  • "Great for al fresco dining. Need less expensive wine by the glass choices - pricey compared to all local competition - including steak houses!"

  • "Always a great meal, wonderful wait staff--Thank you Valarieya (sorry for probably spelling your name incorrectly). Great menu works for everyone. One of my quirks about dining out is food temperature--Harry and Izzy's always hits it on the mark! Food is hot like it has just been plated, not been waiting to be served. Thanks again!"

  • "We like Harry & Izzy's. We go there often. The last visit wasn't our best experience. The kitchen got backed up and it took a very long time to get our food. Then my salad came out wrong. But once everything was corrected and we got our food, everything was fine. We will dine there again; hopefully this was just an off night. This has not been our experience in the past."

  • "We took the family to celebrate our oldest's 21 birthday. He wanted steak and a glass of wine! But my husband didn't want to spend several hundreds for the 5 of us that we would have spent at an a la carte steakhouse. Food and service were great. The famous St Elmo's shrimp cocktail was good but not worth the $16.95 that they charged! There was something for everyone including me who prefers vegetarian fare! We will be back for special occasions but it's too pricy for an average meal out with the kids."

  • "So much fun to dine here...it's much more than just the food! Delicious appetizers, fantastic food and amazing desserts!!!"

  • "Off- one of the four meals was missing when our table delivered. It was a simple Caesar salad with salmon. Salad delivered - NO salmon. My husbands ny strip which was "highly" recommended was awful- very grisly and fatty."

  • "They tried to seat us at a kitchen door. We asked for a booth and the hostess "had to check". My filet was wonderful, however, the pork chops were a little dry and the asparagus was too salty. The waiter never told us the specials and I had to ask for more water. While the steaks here have always been great, I'm not sure I would go back. I told the waiter it was our anniversary and really expected better service."

  • "I have been here several times and have never had a good meal. I ordered scallops for lunch and was charged $30 for 3 scallops (and. It very large). I should have asked how much the special was, but it never occurred to me that it would be that expensive. I have given them many chances but will not go back. There are many, much better restaurants that cost the same (or less)."

  • "Scott Andrews, our server, was attentive and made our dining experience more enjoyable."

  • "...then come here! Menu is more broad & steaks are as good. Surroundings more modern; were St Elmo is steeped in tradition. An excellent choice if you don't want to fight getting downtown."
    Dined on 6/16/2014
  • "Enjoy the food, we have been here a couple of time. The only problem is the service is uneven. We enjoy the ambiance and the food is very good, if they could just do better with the service this would be great."

  • "It is always nice to dine here. One of our favorite places. Great food and service."
    Dined on 6/15/2014
  • "Very nice restaurant, with good service and great food. Great for a special occasion. One thing that was a distraction was that there were 2 or 3 large groups around, which made it fairly noisy. It would be better if large groups be kept in the back room."
    Dined on 6/15/2014
  • "The absolute best on the north side. Every aspect of our visit was above par. From the hostess to the busboy everyone knows there position well."
    Dined on 6/15/2014
  • "Food was good, service good. Large party came in right after we ordered so the noise level went up a lot."

  • "Harry and Izzy's has always been one of my favorite places to eat (downtown or north)."

  • "My wife and I dined at Harry & Izzy's on a Saturday night. We sat in the outdoor seating area, and really enjoyed the evening out there. We both ordered the special that evening, which was the Copper River Salmon. The food was at the highest quality, but that was the first time we have ever paid $53 for Salmon. I should mention that my wife did get it Oscar style with a side of mushrooms. I did get 2 of the bourbon trail lemonade's, which were very good as well. Overall, a wonderful time and experience. The food was very delightful."
