Diner Reviews
  • "We wanted to try one of the restaurants close to our hotel (Marriott Marquis Marina) in San Diego. Because of the variety offered, we decided to try Harbor House. Once we were seated, we informed our server that our son has food allergies. They were very understanding and helpful in guiding us on food choices for him. Our meals were very good, the view from our table by the window was great, and the service was excellent. I recommend Harbor House to anyone looking for variety and nice atmosphere near Seaport Village."

  • "Fresh seafood and excellent views. Large bar. Recommend 2nd floor for best view."

  • "Who is running this place? It is grossly understaffed both at the bar and in the dining room. Food? What food?"

  • "Such a disappointment. A bit of hype online and looking to have a nice dinner with family - my daughter was visiting from out of town. It's priced like a semi-classy place and being on the waterfront sounded appealing. But service was pathetic. Food was so-so. And, they sat us at a table with the sun just beating down on our faces (no shades, etc). Needless to say - won't be going back there even if it was a free meal... I don't have the time to wait that long to be served."

  • "Went for a pre-fireworks meal and the restaurant did not disappoint. The service and food was excellent. We had a view on the ocean side where the people watching was fantastic! We liked it so much we went back again the next night! Highly recommend this restaurant."

  • "We made our reservations for our 4th of July vacation, thinking it would be a great place to eat then watch the fireworks. But at no time during the reservations process (making it via Open Table, the e-mail to confirm the reservation, or the phone call to confirm the reservation) was I told how horrible traffic and parking were on and around the restaurant on the 4th. They had to have known, it's like that every year. If they had said, come two hours early, we would have obliged or had the choice to go somewhere else. As it was, we sat in gridlock for an hour and had to choose between paying $50 for valet parking, walking over a mile to park, or going somewhere else. (We went elsewhere.) We came back the next night, and dinner was okay."

  • "My reservation was noted on arrival and my wife and I were seated immediately. The service was friendly, professional and prompt. The menu selection was diverse, and the food was excellent."

  • "Overall good not a great experience for 2 reasons. First Is where they seated us was not shaded. It was uncomfortable from the glaring of the sun through the glass window outside patio. You cant even enjoy your dinner or the view. It would've have been great to have some kind of a shading that doesn't obstruct the view. Second, though the food was good it wasn't great. But to served by a slow waiter made the whole experience okay. She wasn't going to apologize anything. We had to constantly ask other waiters for more drinks because she rarely checked on us to make sure we got what we needed."

  • "We made a reservation for 10 and I specifically indicated that it was a celebration for an engagement. We had a new server. It took about 10 minutes just to come over and take our drink order and then another 10 minutes + to receive it. The restaurant wasn't very busy. It was just dissapointing on an otherwise fun and wonderful night."

  • "I specifically recall a time when the Harbor House was the top restaurant in San Diego and the #1 restaurant by volume not only in SD but all of CA. I knew something was awry when we entered the first floor to find it completely roped off. So obviously something deleterious has been going on here. I must say our server was outstanding and was very knowledgeable about the long list of wines available off the menu. She also never missed a beat when we needed her services. The three of us were quite pleased with our menu choices. The desserts were great; we sampled the Key Lime Pie (about as good as it gets outside Key West). My only criticism of the restaurant was the sub-standard care of the men's room."

  • "We were quite disappointed in the service and food at the Harbor House. We had reservations and checked in 15 minutes early but had to go back to the desk 20 minutes after our reservation time to inquire about our table. We were seated then. We had a table outside on the patio with a nice view which was the only good part about our experience. The food was extremely bland with little taste especially for the price. There are far better restaurants in San Diego!"

  • "and great service. Food (Sea Bass) was incredible. Great service. We had a group of seven and our waitress was probably the most attentive without being intrusive."

  • "We went to Harbor House with a group of 10. The hostess was a pleasure and the food was acceptable. Neither bad nor great. However, the service was very slow and the waitress was not very well informed of their menu."

  • "This dinner was a night out for my wife and I for our first year wedding anniversary. The food was great and the atmosphere was nice, but we were placed next to a table with numerous children and it was quite load. We were trying to have a romantic dinner out, and it was just not quite up to par for that. The price point was a little higher and wasn't planning on being spending our night out listening to so many children. Don't get me wrong I don't mind children and I would expect if we were at a pizza place or Denny's, but wanted a quieter night. I think you might want to ask people coming what they are there for when you seat next to families with numerous children. Thank you."

  • "The restaurant was decent with great views of the harbor. However parking can be a nightmare so make sure you get there early. If you park in the paid lots, make sure you get your parking validated because it will save you over $10!"

  • "Great view of the harbor. The service was excellent, but the food was just average."

  • "I took my family (a group of 12) to Harbor House on a Friday night. The waitress was extremely accommodating with our large group and many requests. I have a sister who's a vegan and a grandfather with a particular diet. They were able to offer many options and the ability to make changes to dishes to fit their needs. We had a wonderful time and will be back again!"

  • "We met out of town guests on Mother's day for dinner. We all enjoyed the meals we selected, which included fish, and salads. I liked the clam chowder too. No one complained and one of our guests tends to be a picker eater. Would recommend. The waiter and his help were attentive to keeping our plates cleared and water filled. "

  • "Our waitress had no personality. Other than that, we enjoyed our time."

  • "The food was not very good and not fresh tasting. The salmon was overcooked and dry, the roast beef overcooked and dry. Most of the other food looked and tasted as though it had been sitting for awhile. The service was just terrible!! The waitress pretty much ignored us, I had to wave down another waitress for coffee and water refills as well as clearing off the dirty dishes. TERRIBLE! "

  • "The food was 50/50 but the service was terrible. My Salmon salad was delicious and so was my daughter's risotto; however my husband's paella was cold and not very good. The waitress, though she was very nice, wasn't very efficient. We had to ask for our water 3 different times and my husband never got the ice tea he ordered even after he told her that he hadn't gotten his ice tea."

  • "I picked Harbor House for my family of 13 for Mothers Day. Did it thru open table and asked for 12 noon. It gave me 2pm as the first available table so we took it. The biggest issue was when we arrived and went downstairs there were dozen of open tables. Far more open tables then filled ones. Why could we not get a earlier reservation. There was no sign the lunch crowd had just left. This buffet ended at 2:30 and we were just rolling in. They assured me that we would miss out on nothing but this was not the case. Many things that were listed were not available. What they had we enjoyed but it had been sitting around. For $604.00 it should have been a better experience. "

  • "Went for Mother's Day Brunch and had a lovely meal. Omlets made to order were tasty! Some of the hot food was a little cold but how do you keep eggs benedict warm en' mass? Asked for a window table when making reservations WAY in advance but had to sit our 5 people on two round tables put together while we watched a table of 5 "at the window" sit empty while we ate our whole meal. Tried to change but said everything was reserved...It was still a nice day with family!"

  • "It was fine. Nothing stood out. Nothing to complain about, but nothing to rave about either. I do not feel the need to eat there again. Once was enough. There are so many better places to eat in SanDiego. Wait! There was a complaint. The calamari. Don't order the calamari. It was rubbery and tasteless. That's it. "

  • " Wanted to eat outside but even with reservations for 5:30 we were too late for that....we were seated downstairs We ordered the Oysters Rockefeller - great taste and very tender. seven of us NO free refills - very disappointing. The check revealed that each drink was charged twice....but then the additional refills were complimentary - still. We had fish/chips, shrimp salad, sea bass, seafood platter and taco combo with either a salad or clam chowder. I am on a quest for the best clam chowder - so far this was my NO. 2 - Legal Seafood is the best! Everything was wonderful, fresh and Hot. Except for 1 Ale, no alcoholic drinks. One dessert. Total bill for 7= $218 - seemed a little pricey. "

  • "We made the reservation through Open Table and arrived a little early. We were seated immediately and told someone would be right with us. So we waited a total of 20 minutes and not one server or busser of that restaurant ever acknowledged our presence, though several passed by us, looking the other way. We don't have problem waiting for dinner, as long as someone knows we are there. After 20 minutes we returned our menus to the receptionist and went down the street to Busters Grill, where we were treated much better. That restaurant was so good, we went back then next night. So, if you are in the San Diego marina and are looking for a good place to have dinner, don't go to Harbor House."

  • "Very expensive for the amount of food received. Drinks were also overpriced; $12.95 for a common Margarita. The Harbor House is in a great location. It is in the center of Fishermen's Village and overlooks the bay and marina. "

  • "Nice location but slow service. Waitress only ask the ladies at our table if they wanted dessert and not the other four"
    Dined on 4/27/2014
  • "Upon checking in the staff was unfriendly. The appetizers were not fresh tasting, the salad was actually "warm" including the dressing, as if it had been made for someone else and had been sitting out too long...yuck! The waiter never brought bread, nor did he check on our meal to see if it was satisfactory. We waited far too long to get our check, Won't be coming back!"

  • "The restaurant was amazing. We were heading out for a bachelorette night and getting 6 girls ready, on the train, and ontime is tough. We were about 50 minutes late for our reservation; I called twice to update them. They held the table for us, no questions asked. Ray was our server on the patio. He recommened his top three favorites, to which half of ordered. The two girls ordered the Shrimp salad and could not stop talking about it. Beautiful setting. Good food. Fantastic drinks. Amazing staff. "

  • "We had a great seat for the seven of us with such a beautiful view. We felt the service was good so we had no complaints. My steak in the sandwich was a little grisstley but not bad. No one else had any complaints and seemed to enjoy their choices. My husband especially enjoyed the raw oysters.and ordered two more for his dessert. The rest of us didn't leave room for dessert. Some took home their left overs."

  • "Went there for Sunday brunch, we arrived early, it was quiet on the upper level and then got busier, really nice ambience. The lower floor was a lot busier as the buffet was located there. We went there because of the views, the buffet was good altough not outstanding, service was really good. I would consider Harbor house as a most go for Sunday lunch with the family and have an easy day around the marina afterwards."

  • "We really enjoyed the food here on Easter. It was a nice layout on the first floor and breakfast items were excellent. Although the decor is a bit dated and parts of the place seem to be neglected, the view of the bay was fantastic so long as your seat had a view of the windows. Overall a good time and we would buy this buffet again."
