This was our second time there, and it was great! We had weekend guests and our dinner at Hank's was between two Spoletto performances both at the Dock Street Theater, so it was convenient, and the service was great - getting us out in time to make our second performance. It's located in a trendy downtown area that's just far enough removed to keep up a great ambiance. Seafood was fresh, well prepared and the service was fantastic. We will definitely go back on our next trip. I had the shrimp and grits and my wife had scallops. I had Oysters prepared casino style and they were wonderful. The place had a nice buzz when we walked in. Our server was prompt, polite and helpful. The food was delicious, but we almost sent it back because it was barely lukewarm. All four entrees were lukewarm and that took someof the enjoyment out. This was somewhat puzzling because there were empty tables around us, so the servers weren't overly busy.

We had a wonderful dining experience at Hank's. The food was divine and the service was top rate. We were made to feel as if we were the only couple dining at that time. Although the restaurant was filled to capacity, it was still intimate and romantic. My husband had Seafood a la Wando, and I had the Bouillabaisse. In both dishes, the fish was perfectly cooked - not overdone and rubbery. My husband's spinach salad came with large lardons of bacon that were very tasty. My arugula, beet, and endive salad was light and crisp, and not overdressed. The desserts (pecan pie, peanut butter pie) were good, but not as terrific as the fish was. Our server was attentive without hovering - she was watchful and there when we needed her. The busboys have been trained not to remove one diner's plate until both have finished, which pleased me greatly. Parking is right next to the restaurant so it is easy to get to. Located right off Market and Meeting St, so that you can take a nice stroll after dinner. That said, late in the evening on a Saturday night, the clientele were, by and large, tremendously loud and obnoxious considering the excellence of the food and drink they were served. Honestly, I like conviviality and bonhomie as much as any diner, but where's the famed charm of the Southern gentlemen and belles? This restaurant has some of the best food I've eaten in South Carolina--we had the roast grouper, the halibut special, oysters casino and two extremely tasty desserts, and paid a premium for them that was well, well worth it.
