  • "The food was incredible, service was excellent, ambience was neat. Loved Hanks, will recommend to others and will definitely go back!"

  • "Hanks was disappointing because the seafood was over cooked and overwhelmed with sauce. The tables are also extremely close together unless you are at a large group table. Felt like we were sandwiched between people. Hard to have a private conversation."

  • "Atmosphere, food and libations all top-notch. This restaurant has a lot going on at any one time and were able to keep it together thru all phases. Great experience. Thank you"

  • "Hank's is truly one of the best fresh seafood restaurants in all of Charleston. The food prep, the presentation, infusion of the various flavors -all very very good."

  • "We had not been here in a while, but the food blew me away. Roasted grouper on risotto? Sounds simple, but it was executed to perfection. I can still taste it. I'm not exaggerating -- one of the best meals I've ever had in Charleston. And the service? Perfect blend of warmth and professionalism."

  • "Hank's never disappoints with seasonal specials and that low country edge. Of the three restaurants we chose for dinner this trip, Hank's ranks third however. The food is great, don't get me wrong, but for the price it was a Bronze medal not gold."

  • "Made reservations for Hank's based on many recommendations. Very busy for a Tues nite. Decided to give up table and sit at the community table. Met a couple from Brazil. Bouillabaisse and broiled platter were both great. Wonderful food and great experience."

  • "We chose Hank's because of the ratings online, and were not disappointed. The atmosphere is relaxed but sophisticated. The house salad was quite plain-greens and a few finely diced tomatoes-pricey for what you received. My husband said the broiled seafood platter was the best he's ever had. The curried shrimp was tasty but not memorable. It was our anniversary and when we declined dessert the waiter brought out a complimentary petite anniversary treat of berries, whipped cream and chocolate wafers that said Happy Anniversary. Very thoughtful! A bit pricey by the time you add an appetizer, a salad and a glass of wine, but it's Charleston! We'll be going back when we return."

  • "Food was outstanding, service was average and atmosphere was very loud and noisy."
    Dined on 7/11/2014
  • "I made reservations and waited over 30 minutes to be seated. We were sent to the bar that was standing room only. Ordered drinks and stood in an over crowded, extremely noisy corner. We ordered the seafood tower and the shrimp were good but not very many. there was only one small piece of lobster that was dry and tough. The oysters were small and tasteless. Clams were good. Only saw our wait person twice and had to ask for the water to be refilled. It was my daughters birthday and it was not a good evening. I will not be going back or recommending Hanks. Debbie T"

  • "The best seafood bar none in Charleston, SC. The new GM, Joe is a great addition to a very good team."

  • "The food and service were great. I will say I ordered the shrimp and grits. While the dish was yummy, it was quite spicy and a little different than traditional grits. Our server was wonderful!"

  • "We went on a Thurs night. Good thing we had reservations. The place was packed!! Highly recommend the ceviche. It was wonderful."

  • "Food was good but for pricing and previous reviews expected much more. Portion size was disappointing but flavor and presentation was good. Heard thus wasn't tourist trap but not sure it's not."

  • "We had another great meal at Hanks. I had seared tuna and wife had seafood platter. Both were excellent. Mixed drink and wine were very good. Service was very good. This has become a dining favorite and we always stop in when visiting Charleston."

  • "We arrived a bit early and enjoyed a drink and conversation at the bar. After a short wait we were seated at a nice two person table. The service was excellent and the waiter was very helpful in our selections. The food was served steaming hot and was a real treat. The fried Grouper and Shrimp was seasoned to perfection and collard greens seasoned much like my grandmothers. The portions were more than ample, I didn't finish my dinner and had no room for desert. It was a very enjoyable dinner and I would recommend it to my friends."

  • "We were called to confirm our reservation around noon that day. We changed our reservation from 5-9:15. When we arrived at the restaurant the changes were not made. The hostess was quiet curt about the situation. We were quickly seated nonetheless. The Shrimp and grits were amazing . The curry shrimp my dining partner ordered was delightful. The she crab soup however, was pretty bad. They over did it with the sherry which made the soup hard to even swallow. Our service was amazing."

  • "My husband and I had dinner here to celebrate our 10th wedding anniversary. The food was Amazing!!! I was disappointed with our waiter but I can overlook that for the food."

  • "The fish at Hanks was good, fresh and presented well. But the portion size does not equate with the price of the meal. Overpriced. The green tomato appy was good. But the plate price was more than other area restaurants in the immediate area. Pecan salmon was very good as was the mahi mahi special. Appetizer, entrée and drinks will set you back about $60 per person, plus gratuity. Large restaurant, booths and tables, very busy."

  • "Hank's was terrific. It is both our first trip to Charleston and our first dinner in Charleston. I'm now comparing other restaurants to Hank's. Want to go back before leaving town but can't get a reservation!! Go...enjoy..."

  • "Two of our party ordered the fried chicken and it was excellent. The grouper and the chef's shrimp were great as well. Service was the best."

  • "I always look forward to Hank's when I visit Charleston and am never disappointed. They've got a broad enough selection to please everyone in your group; but not so broad that they can't do an excellent job with every item on the menu."

  • "We love Hanks. Food is consistently delicious. Always a treat."

  • "Even though we had made reservations, we still had to wait awhile. This place was packed! The curried shrimp was excellent, with just the right amount of heat. My hubby had the shrimp and grits (had to have it one more time). All the ingredients were fresh and tasty."

  • "Excellent restaurant. Took my wife and my in-laws. There is something for everyone on the menu. Excellent bourbon menu. Wine list is great. Seafood hands down is great. You must try the ceviche and any of the northern oysters paired with their house made minuet. Others at the table had the Seafood a la Wando and it was prepared impeccably. For dessert you must try the banana cream pie and the peanut butter pie. I look forward to returning soon."

  • "This was our first time dining at Hanks. I would suggest reservations because they were still a little busy at 8:30. We were shown immediately to our table which was followed up shortly by a waiter. The food was fabulous and I will definitely be back when I am next in Charleston! Try the scallops, they were to die for!"

  • "We always stop into Hanks when visiting Charleston. Excellent seafood - love the castle! Very nice staff. Very professional, but not snooty. See you in August."

  • "Everything was excellent, great ambiance, service was great but it felt a bit overpriced. The OpenTable rating is two $$ however should be at least a 3 - 4 dollar signs."

  • "When visiting a new city for the first time, I always ask the taxi driver where he would take his wife to dinner for her birthday. This is where he recommended. It was the best seafood that I have ever eaten."

  • "The best seafood restaurant we've found in Charleston and we've been in and around Charleston on vacation for 10 plus years (finally were able to make it to Hank's after our kids matured enough to go to a nice restaurant) - 5x better food and 10x nicer than Hyman's which is a tourist trap. Very good service and everyone enjoyed their meal (first time we've been to a restaurant and nobody had chicken, burger, pizza or something from the kids menu). My wife suggested that next time we go we get the tower/mountain appetizer and then have appetizers for dinner (which is not a bad idea as all of the appetizers we had were fantastic."
