A word from Gray's on Main
Eclectic, yet traditional, Gray's menu reflects the best of the South in food, and focuses on locally sourced ingredients. The second floor bar and music hall features hand-crafted cocktails that celebrate the brandy culture of the late 19th century, along with live performances from Music City's finest. The third story holds a casual yet elegant space for our supper club members.Continued

  • "We went for the concert and were more than pleased with the fine food and their Drinks & Cocktails are outstanding!"

  • "Our family had lunch at Gray's last Saturday and shared several of the appetizers. What yummy food. We all had a hard time deciding what appetizer we liked the best. We will be back!!!"

  • "The menu is unique and the food was delicious. We especially liked the shrimp and grits appetizer. And a plus for me was the iced tea, which was fresh and really good - something a lot of restaurants overlook. The server was great - very attentive, didn't let us go without anything. Our table was in a nice little booth that provided a feeling of privacy, and no one had any trouble hearing the conversation. We'll be back!"

  • "2nd Time in for Brunch. The food was great once again plus our service was even better than our original visit. Really impressed with their Bloody Marys and new brunch items. You need to save room for dessert - two words - chocolate cobbler (served in a skillet)!"

  • "Modern twist on Southern cuisine. Most dishes on the salty side but my family liked that. Recommend the figs, okra (best I've had) and shrimp and grits for app. Ordered double chops and lobster mac for entrees which were excellent. I also ordered trout but waiter screwed up the order so by the time it came, my family was done eating and we were ready to move on to desert. Ended up taking the trout home. Waiter was a bit overwhelmed and at the end he took some things off the bill but the damage was done. Desert was disappointing. If you're craving bread pudding, go to Papa Bodreaux's next door instead. I give Gray's on Main 3.5-4.0 stars on food, 2.0 for service."

  • "Combining outstanding food, a unique cocktail menu, talented musicians, and an exceptionally renovated space, this is a destination for a uniquely Nashville-styled night out. Well worth the drive from downtown Nashville to visit this amazing restaurant."

  • "They have changed the menu to offer more entrees and now it is quite diversified. Very comfort food oriented with a few of the healthy dished added. It is quite noisy and energetic, especially around the bar. They feature one of the best bartenders in the area. with some creative drink offerings. I would recommend Gray's as being different and unique with good and tasty food. It's not for a romantic evening or even one with a desire for hign end presentations or very creative offerings."

  • "we took a guest there & each tried a different entree & unusual appetizers that were delicious. the portions were decent for the meals but appetizer portions were small. great wait staff & always kept our waters full. brandy drinks were good."

  • "Cliche Fits Here: Good Food, Good Times with Good Friends! The servers fade into friends here and help you settle in as you would in comfortable chair. There is no need for flair, mood lights or other distractions to make up for mediocre food. The food is properly prepared, served timely and it is excellent. This is a place you can take anyone and know that you will leave with pleasant memory."

  • "The location, outward aesthetic, and menu all promised a great experience. It's a beautiful restaurant, but the night we went, it was so cold inside that it was hard to enjoy the meal. We had to change tables to get away from the door, I had to give my coat to my wife to wear over hers, and my feet were numb by the time we left. Our server forgot our appetizer and we had to remind him we hadn't ordered entrees yet when the app came. The shrimp and grits appetizer was delicious, but entrees ranged from average to regret. The "cobbler" was basically a burned brownie with ice cream on top. For a tab of nearly $100 for two people, I was extremely disappointed and without heavy persuasion from friends going forward, we will not go back."

  • "The bar is very specialized in Bourbon only drinks and they are extremely small and pricey. There isn't a martini to be found!!"

  • "Great place for drinks and interesting music. Good vibe. The bacon wrapped figs app was great, the dinners were good, just good."
    Dined on 3/21/2014
  • "They just added new menus items to the lunch & dinner menus that add a lot of variety to the menu. They offer classic Southern staples with a twist along with other new items like a Lamb burger and Wild Elk that make this a unique stop. The electic and warm ambiance only added to the amazing food and artisan cocktails. We will return!"

  • "Food was pretty good, but overpriced for such a small portion."

  • "Food was great. The service lacked. Very slow to get our drinks. Had to wait 20 minutes for dessert and they forgot the coffee. I will try again. Food was great."

  • "W were seated upstairs where we promptly ordered a bottle of wine. Only to be told-out of stock. So we choose yet again, only to be told again it was out of stock. So we asked our waiter what he suggested that was in stock, and he didn't have a clue. When he returned with an option via the bartender the waiter couldn't even pronounce the particular name of the wine. All of our food arrived at the same time-was I wrong to think the shared plate was suppose to arrive first? When offered to order dessert our waiter gave us a minute and then returned-we had planned to order the chocolate cobbler. But wait, guess what it was out of stock. Overall the staff was unknowledgable about the food and half the list of bottled reds were out of stock."

  • "We always try to visit a restaurant that we haven't tried before when we go to a favorite city. We will most certainly re-visit Gray's on a return trip to Franklin. We started with an appetizer of fried pimento cheese balls that were served on a spread of moonshine pepper jelly, these were so good and different from what you expect when you think pimento cheese. Our entrees were pleasing to the eye and to our taste. Our entrees were the rice stuffed herb roasted chicken plate with spring veggies and the double bone Carolina chop wrapped with bacon and served with collards and mashed potatoes. The desserts were also wonderful, and so much that we couldn't finish them! As you can see, it is certainly worth your visit."

  • "Hostess: Was rudely told I was "12 min's early"..instead of being told where the bar was I was told to "walk around"outside for 12 minutes. After about 5 mins I came back and asked where the bar was. She pointed around the corner. First drink order was taken 15 mins after I found the bar. Was seated at a table 3 feet from the bar before the first drink came.Ordered "benton bacon wraped dates". Tasteless dates, raw bacon, goat cheese non existent. (hint to kitchen-when you try to cook the thick bacon "on the date" in the broier the date ends up 600 degrees. 2d degree burns in my mouth to prove it. Ordered steak frites (med rare) and chicken breast. Both cooked so well done you could eat either. My waitress was very nice but had 7 or 8 tables."

  • "Brought together a global group for dinner and drinks. The server was attentive and promptly attended to the group's requests. The meeting went well and several out of town members made positive comments on the overall food and service."

  • "Haven't been in a few months and thought an out of town friend would love it. It just wasn't the same as our first visits. Had to order three drinks before they had all the ingredients. I raved about chicken and waffles so friend ordered only to find out the waffle maker was broken. Ordered an appetizer which came out with our entrees. The food took forever. Entrees were tasty but somehow Grays has lost the magic it had when they first opened."

  • "This was a neat building, atmosphere was great. Food was decent, not great for the price. The staff seemed very unorganized. The seating was so close together, you felt as if you couldnt carry on a conversation without everybody listening."

  • "At Gray's, the setting is great, the food okay. Cornbread was greasy, steak and biscuits had excellent steak but the sweet potoato biscuits were gummy and meh. Why not leave well enough alone with a good old regular grandma-type biscuit? Pasta dishes were not bad, just bland. Best menu items were vegetables; brussels sprouts and collards were very yum. Gray's has the makings of a good restaurant including a comfortable atmosphere and friendly wait staff, but needs to cut the "southern schtick" on its menu in favor of something more honest that actually tastes wonderful. Sincerely hoping that this happens."

  • "Great staff.... cool ambience... great location...killer cocktails... but the food is way too rich. There are a few great choices but overall the menu is leaning way too far in the artery clogging direction. Its a cool hang but I'd have a hard time recommending this to my friends until they get a few lighter choices."

  • "LOVE the atmosphere. The red meat dishes have consistently been a little disappointing. The rest of the menu has been great."

  • "It was a great place to celebrate my birthday with a few girlfriends. The drinks were amazing"
    Dined on 3/11/2014
  • "Overall, very disappointing. Food was served at room temp. I had steak and biscuits, steak was good but biscuits were soggy, obviously the meat had been sitting on them for a while. The fries were limp, tasteless and barely warm. Did not live up to the hype. This was my second time to Gray's on Main and both times were a disappointment. Food very average. Service was great!"

  • "Dined on a Friday night, party of 4. Restaurant was packed. We were seated upstairs near the bar and the room was so noisy it was hard to converse with people at our table. The server was very friendly but the service was slow. The food was good but not good enough to make me want to go back and put up with the noise. The owners did an excellent job of restoring the historic building."
    Dined on 3/7/2014
  • "I went with some friends for lunch and loved the building! I ordered fried green tomatoes and could barely finish one. Bad taste, bad consistency, just plain bad. I ordered chicken salad sandwich and ate half. It was ok, definitely not worth the price. I would come here to have cocktails (although those were pricey), but not to dine. SO disappointed."

  • "the manager had our entrees costs removed from our bill. There was a problem in the kitchen which resulted in a 75+minute wait for our main courses in addition to waiting for our wine and appetizers. Our server was excellent, he gave me a glass of hot water to warm my hands since we were seated at a table not far from the door. We should have asked to move but we didn't which is our fault. This is the 2nd time we have been to Gray's. The 1st time we were rushed so as to turn the table because of the huge crowd waiting. I am so glad we didn't have our friends meet us, such a shame since the food is very good and our server was great. There are plenty of good restaurants in the Franklin/Brentwood/Nashville area, no need to return."

  • "We have recommended Gray's to many friends and have brought friends and family. Now, we would only recommend to out of towners and simply because it is a cool space with a great story. No recommendation for food. Servers even warned us about some so-so dishes. We had to send the cornbread back -absolutely NO flavor. Sweet potato biscuits were divine! My husbands frittata had no flavor; the chicken pot pie was more phyllo than filling; my pimento cheese sandwich was good when I got pimento cheese in the bite (it was skimpy allotment); To their credit - they did not charge us for the cornbread. My fave was once shrimp & grits. Now, the dish is sloppy and greasy vs. neat and tasty. Salad greens tasted old. Wish it was new again."

  • "I came to see Amber's Drive. We got to the restaurant an hour before the show so we would have time to enjoy the food. Excellent food as always. But the drink menu brought back some amazing memories of childhood and Mae Love, and picking her and her family up in a VW Bug. I wish my Mom were still alive so she could remember that as well."

  • "We arrived at 5, lingered over choosing drinks, then regretted it as in total, as we were rushed to finish dinner by 7 due to slow delivery of food and drinks. Our server was super personable and helpful, but everything we ordered from drinks to food were quite delayed. I wonder if additional servers or bar staff might have been needed for such a busy evening. We love Grays, but were surprised and disappointed by the amount of time required to dine."

  • "We had heard many things about Gray's, some great, some not so great. So my husband and I wanted to try it for ourselves. Everything was wonderful! Our only complaint was that they were out of their chops and that is what my husband really wanted. He ended up with the steak and biscuits and they were great, but we will go back and hopefully he can try the chops. The fried pimento cheese is a must, their brandy cocktails were perfects. I had the lobster mac and it was great also and the chocolate cobbler was to die for!!! We will be back!!"

  • "Food was excellent, and presentation was also great. Found the restaurant a little noisy, was difficult to have a conversation, competing with everyone around you."

  • "For starters, don't miss ordering some drinks -- I got Sack and Lavender first and it was lovely, but ESPECIALLY enjoyed the Anthem. There are many "sharables" listed on the menu - we loved the fried pimento cheese balls (and I hate pimento cheese), fried green tomatoes and collared greens. The fried brussel sprouts were ok. Main course faves: the steak and biscuits, rabbit pasta dish and the snapper. Don't miss the stage on the second floor and if you have a chance take a peek at the member's only third floor space. The social club, members-only area is intimate, plush and attended by its own bartender. Very tempting if you have the $$ to get access to this space whenever you like. We will definitely be back!!!!"
