  • "The specialized cocktail menu was excellent. Very unique. The small plates were varied and the three we tried were really good. As for the main course selections, the menu felt unnecessarily limited. The entrees we selected were tasty, but there wasn't very much to choose from."

  • "Just went to Gray's this past weekend, 7/19/14, and came away really unimpressed. Loved the menu, big fan of Southern cuisine, but the execution of pretty much the entire meal was substandard. Ordered the cornbread (the highlight of the meal), breaded Okra, and a couple of pasta entree's and they all came out lukewarm to cold. Ordered the swordfish pasta and the lobster mac and both seemed like store bought components that had been thrown together. Our server was great but you could tell she had way too many tables to cover so service was slow all night, which might account on why everything was cold. Hate to be so critical but do yourself a favor and try somewhere else."

  • "This was my first time there and I found all of the staff to be VERY friendly and professional and my reservation was ready at the requested time. They were out of some food items and it was only 7:15 in the evening but what I got was very good. Decided to just have the appetizers. It is rather crowded and noisy so going for a romantic evening with good conversation could be challenging."

  • "The restaurant is really cute and has a good atmosphere. We started off with a couple appetizers which were good. For the main dish I ordered the lobster mac and cheese and it was very bland with no flavor. Think noodles with maybe butter, not very cheesy at all. My friend ordered the elk which was excellent. There were out of the pork chop which another friend was going to get, so she went with a flat bread which was good."

  • "With family in for the weekend, we made an early reservation on Friday. Had a great 3 hours of laughing, drinking, laughing, eating and more laughing. Our waiter was WONDERFUL! He was charming and ahead of each request. He overheard one of us call my niece by name (Bella) and he called her by name the rest of the afternoon. Food was FANTASTIC! Drinks were FANTASTIC! Overall great experience and wonderful way to end a perfect day. Would do it again in a heartbeat."

  • "Our waiter was more interested in concocting custom drinks behind the bar and talking with the folks sitting at the bar than taking care of us. By the time we got our food, it was clear that it had been in a warmer or under lamps for awhile. The food was all overdone. We will not be back or recommend this restaurant to anyone."

  • "The atmosphere was great! Our server was very helpful at the start of our meal. He was very knowledgeable about the cocktail list (but not the beer list). Towards the end, he seemed hard to find. The food was very hit and miss. We ordered 4 of the shareable appetizers. The fried pimento cheese and hot chicken were both really good. The corn bread was good, but I wasn't a fan of the bacon butter (and I love bacon). The fried green tomatoes were not very good. My wife ordered the elk, which was cooked perfectly, but the whole plate sat in the window too long and it was all fairly cold. Last we split the chocolate cobbler, which was very good."

  • "A very interesting concept and great space. unfortunately menu lacks middle ground - everything seems either too heavy or too light. We had the Shrimp & Grits, Trout and Cobb Salad. The shrimp were outstanding, perfectly prepared, but the grit cake was bland and was little more than an edible presentation vessel for the shrimp. It was served over collards that were bland and leathery. The Trout was perfectly cooked and the dish was a great combination of flavor, but there was a complete absence of salt to marry it all together. Unfortunately, The service was some of the worst we've ever had. We had to wait almost 15 min to be greeted and another 15 for our drinks to arrive. Then after 2 bites of Dinner, he shows up and asks us about desert."

  • "I was surprised at how bland our lunch was.....sadly. Everything was okay, it's not like the food was bad. Just very bland. We started with the deviled eggs. Maybe some salt and pepper would have helped. I had the Pimiento BLT. With ingredients like homemade pimiento cheese, fried green tomatoes and Benton's bacon, how can you go wrong? Again,very little taste, and unfortunately the bacon was not cooked to a good hard crisp. It actually didn't really taste like Benton's. And the fries were greasy and limp. My husband had the open face egg sandwich. He said it was okay. So.....while not finding anything egregiously wrong, Gray's just really didn't offer us anything that we would want to come back for. Which is disappointing."

  • "Great night, we enjoyed apps and drinks. Our server was fun and enthusiastic and knew what to recommend for our party of 7. The restrooms were clean, the restaurant has a great fun atmosphere. It was the perfect venue to celebrate. The food was unique and so were the drinks. Several of my guests were from out of town and they loved downtown franklin, and felt this restaurant/bar was great. We did hear the beginning of the music, who seemed great!"

  • "First timer. Took my wife and family for her birthday. I had heard about Gray's a lot so I had high expectations. It was good, but it didn't really blow me away. Our party thought the appetizers were great (fried deviled eggs!), but the entree's were, well, they were just okay. I had the swordfish with linguine. It was under seasoned and kind of tasteless. My wife said her dish needed more seasoning and lacked flavor too. Our waitress was very nice and attentive. I'd probably go back if someone invited me, but for the price category there are many that meet and beat what I found at Gray's. Bummer, because I had hoped it was going to be fantastic and one of my mainstays. Oh well."

  • "We ordered the Bacon-Wrapped Figs and the Prosciutto Pizza appetizers. The figs were delicious, flavorful, and unique. The pizza was just okay – nothing I haven’t had at other restaurants often. For entrees, my friend ordered the Lobster Mac. Although the portion was generous, it arrived dry and overcooked. Lobster chunks were nice but there was no sauce, no flavors, and worst of all, it badly needed salt. I ordered the Gray’s Carolina Chop. The chop was the nicest item I put in my mouth that night. The mashed potatoes were bland, dry and flavorless. I will likely not go back to Gray’s considering that we spent around $70 for mediocre food, not including alcohol, tax or tip. There are much better options out there."

  • "I went to Gray's on Main for dinner and took a few people from my client as well as my boss and her boss. I made reservations for 6 and when I needed to add 1 more, the restaurant was accommodating. One of our clients is gluten intolerant and when the server advised that the menu was undergoing a change and was unsure which menu items were gluten-free, she got the owner to come to our table and explain which items were gluten-free or could be made gluten-free! The collard greens were delicious and not mushy as so many other places make them (and gross me out). The restaurant itself was pretty cool and reminded me of restaurants in Austin. Overall, we had a great time and delicious food. I will go back next time I am in town."

I over heard another waiter explain about the history of the building, what items are homemade on their menu and what they are famous/noted for. I would like to go back and try the weekday menu, we had a Sunday menu."

  • "I was really excited about trying Gray's on Main, but left feeling underwhelmed... It took over 20 minutes to receive a glass of wine and 2 cocktails. Food was pretty good - the pimento cheese and hot chicken were excellent, while the bacon wrapped figs and the cauliflower were not. Service was mediocre. I'd go back but only to sit at the bar and have a drink and that pimento cheese!"

  • "Grays is a current Hot Spot in Franklin. We went there for an anniversary. They had a great table for us. It was very crowded and our waitress had a very large table toward the end of our dining, so she easily forgot about us. Our Mac N Cheese (a standard) was barely warm and had to be sent back. After they heated it, it was delicious. The menu choice was very limited with only about 8 choices. We enjoyed our time there and would like to go back and try lunch sometime."

  • "Been here twice, once with a group of 11 and once with just 2. Both experiences were great. Group of 11 was seated at the hightop table near the front window. Great service. Wife & I love the appetizer/shareable menu, so we just get several items off of that and share. We love the bacon wrapped figs, the fried pimento cheese balls, Nashville hot chicken and the grilled pear flatbread, but there are lots of other great choices as well. Casual place in historic downtown Franklin, perfect for a date night when combined with a stroll down main street. Jack & Coke bread pudding was great, get it with ice cream on top. Chocolate cobbler looked good too, or take a stroll down to Sweet CeCe's or Starbucks afterwards, both at the end of Main."

  • "My friend and I are 'foodies' and we watched the movie "Chef" and wanted to eat somewhere special afterwards. This was the perfect place! We shared several great appetizers, all with amazing flavors and delicious. Our waiter, even though he was new and 'in training', did a wonderful job making sure we were taken care of. The ambiance was super cool - we ate on the 2nd floor next to the bar, overlooking the downtown Franklin Main Street."

  • "I had a friend recommend his place so I went. I loved the fact that it was an old pharmacy and they kept some of the history in the place. There are tons of old doors used creatively throughout and has a wall of old prescriptions. That was the best part of the experience. The service was so slow, we waited for 30 minites for a drink. The food was okay, not enough to rescue the service. The bar offerings were limited, no amaretto or known vodkas. Very dissapointing overall experience. It could had been salvaged by a witty server or by fabulous food but neither were experienced."

  • "This was the first time I personally dined at Gray's, but it won't be my last. We showed up about 15 minutes early, and was seated immediately. After being seated by the hostess, we were greeted within just a minute or two by our waiter. We started with the Fried Pimento Cheese appetizer, and it was delicious. My wife selected the Steak entree, and I had the Pork Chop. Both were outstanding. The collard greens which accompanied my entree might have been the best I've ever tasted. We decided to end dinner with desert, and chose the Goo-Goo pie concoction which was delicious. It was one of the best dining experiences in recent memory, and I would recommend Gray's on Main to anyone wanting to experience downtown Franklin at its finest."

  • "My entree was not good, I got the swordfish pasta, but the drinks and appetizers are delicious. They need to work on their entrees and then they could really have a good thing going. Our service was TERRIBLE. Had to ask for appetizer plates more than once, water multiple times and my fiance ordered a drink and they never bothered to bring it out. We had friends in town and wanted to impress and this definitely didn't. "

  • "We had a reservation for 6:15 and when we arrived the only seating was upstairs where there was a music venue starting at 7:00. We were told that we would not be asked to leave but that the music venue was going to be an extra charge if we were there when it started. We then asked to be moved downstairs and were told that a table was available but we were asked o be finished by 7:00 since there was a reservation for that table for 7:00. We left the restaurant and ate at another establishment so we would not be rushed for dinner. Had to fill out the dining experience ratings to submit this review but did not dine at the restaurant."
