A word from Grace's
When owner Johnny Carrabba set out on his next restaurant venture, he knew his vision would include the fond memories he had of his dear grandmother Grace Mandola. Grace, also known to the family as Mama, was a Sicilian woman born to immigrant parents in Louisiana. She had a flair for cooking, hospitality, and deep faith.

She was known to make bread from scratch every Saturday for her legendary three-hour Sicilian Sunday lunches; and, her newly established family roots in Louisiana added interesting flavors to her home cooked meals. The entire Mandola family, including her five children and fourteen grandchildren, was regularly greeted in her home with smells of warm bread, well brewed sauces and homemade soups. It was around her table that her family learned the true meaning and value of relationships, friendships and good food. These memories are realized when one walks into Johnny Carrabba’s new restaurant, Grace's.

Diner Reviews
  • "Grace's was a nice experience. Food was really yummy, the waiter talked too much, probably due to the fact that the restaurant is on the expendive side."

  • "After our third trip to Grace's we've decided to get as far from the kitchen noise as possible. We love everything about your restaurant except for the loud kitchen noises."

  • "Excellent food and service. Attention to plating details and very attentive to patrons. Will definitely recommend and I'll be back!"

  • "Johnny Carrabba has outdone himself! We have always loved Carrabba's but after having eaten at Grace's a handful of times now, it is our new favorite. We try something new each time we go and have yet to find something that isn't just superb. We even ordered takeout from Grace's twice in the past week!"

  • "Not what I expected in terms of 'dining experience' but very good and would definitely go back. I was surprised by the interior style, reminiscent of an upscale Cracker Barrel with jewish flair. Service was VERY good, food average to above average. Not a place for a girl's night dinner or people watching per say (such as Carrabba's or Mockingbird), but was tasty and different. Additional comment - what were they thinking with the outside fascade of the building. Looks like a funeral home. Strange, sets a weird tone."

  • "Don't think this is like Carrabba's! Grace's has a completely different menu (almost no Italian dishes to be found) from the chain restaurant. The service is awesome. You can take your time and aren't rushed - which I appreciate having a toddler. These days I'm never ready to order when the waiter comes around :) Be mindful of the portions - we were 4 adults and 1 toddler and shared two appetizers - NObody was able to get through a quarter of their entree."

  • "At this, my second visit to Grace's, we sat in the dining room next to the kitchen. It was so loud that I could not hear my dining partner. I had to keep asking her to speak up. She went on and on about how great her crab cake was because it contained so much crab. I had the tuna steak dinner special which I sent back because it was overdone. My server was wonderful about it. But even though the second piece of fish was cooked correctly, I wasn't all that impressed - especially for the price. And I don't mind paying $38 for fish and green beans. However, it should have been listed on the specials menu, or the waiter should have offered up that info. Despite this I Love it at Grace's! My first visit was flawless."

  • "We stop by before heading to a concert that evening. Service was fast and worked great with our time schedule. The food was great with lots of flavor and hostess greet me with my last name to my seat and after I left. I'll definitely come back again!"

  • "The decor is inviting, the service is attentive, the food is delicious. A lighter lunch menu would be welcome."

  • "Went to Grace's for Sunday dinner. It is really very nice. I enjoyed the short ribs and calamari as appetizer- awesome! The restaurant is beautifully decorated as if you are eating at a cozy European dining room with linens, plates, silver displayed. Service was excellent. We will be back again."

  • "We had a fabulous dinner at this attractive very friendly restaurant. We sat at the "viewing"counter seats and loved the dinner, the attention and all of the restaurant's excellent staff. The food is delicious with extremely generous portions."

  • "We had a good experience eating here. The restaurant was full, so I recommend a reservation if you can. Our server was delightful and knowledgeable about the menu and wine selections. The sticky ribs app was good - rich, flavorful sauce without being too salty. My husband had to pork pot roast special with mashed potatoes. As he said, "It tastes like what you'd make at home, which a lot of restaurants don't quite hit." I had the shrimp-crusted red snapper. The cream sauce was rich without being too heavy, and the shrimp was tender and flavorful without being rubbery. I particularly enjoyed the roasted brussel sprouts - nice crisp edges and a tangy lemon sauce. We'll be back."

  • "Super friendly and attentive staff, great food from an eclectic menu. Comfortable evening dining with someone special, as long as you don't mind a slightly noisy dining room."

  • "While it's not AMAZING....it certainly isn't bad. The atmosphere is GREAT....very upscale homey feel. The menu is ALL OVER the place...it's like they're wanting a place where anyone in a group could find something they want. There's Southern, Mexican, Chinese, Italian....etc... I'm looking forward to going back and trying other items...as I understand that they're still evolving...."

  • "I'm just really not sure what to make of this place. The decor is strange, and the menu is very erratic. I had a hard time pairing an appetizer with an entree. That said, my nine year old loved it. Go figure."

  • "Johnny Carrabba has another hit on his hands -- the feeling is like home but serving his favorite foods too...something for everybody on the menu. The homemade chips are awesome!!!"

  • "Grace's is nice mix in the Carrabba's trio of restaurants. It is an Americana mix of menu offerings. The chicken tortilla soup is awesome! My husband loves the roasted chicken. And the bar staff is attentive while you wait. Nice job, Mr. Carrabba!"

  • "We made reservations at 8, were sat immediately upon checking in, and greeted in a timely manner. Waiter was excellent, attentive, very polite, and had a great attitude. Food is higher priced with most entrees ranging from avg 15-22. We had a graces burger and chicken pot pie, gumbo and carrot cake. EVERYTHING was delicious and I mean every single bite was gone!! Totally a cute dinner date place for a couple, girlfriends, or even a group! Outside patio for nice weather, hidden like bar area, and then just enough tables in main dining area to not get too loud! Food is amazing! Definitely recommend everyone to try!"

  • "Excellent service paired with relaxing ambience paired with delicious offerings equals top notch spot for Houston adults to lunch. Tortilla soup fresh full of chicken and topped with the most scrumptious homemade tortilla squares. Just delightful and plenty for lunch. Everything screams homemade here. When weather is nice go and sit outdoors. Who cares if the view is just of busy Kirby. The multi level parking lot next door was hopping our entire visit with arrivals and departures. A definite hit."

  • "This is a great restaurant what a menu from steaks to Happy Family to Seafood Stew. The Mack & Cheese was creamy and delicious might have been the best ever!! Service was spot on and the deserts were to die for .."

  • "Beautifully decorated. The food was good. My rib eye had too much cartilage and I had to spit out about 7 bites. The rice with the Asian pork chop had a funky spice in it yet it was very bland. The calamari was delicious and very different from any in Houston. It had soba noodles."
    Dined on 6/28/2014
  • "We were a little disappointed with our entrees. We were expecting the same flavor experience we have at Carrabas on Kirby only with Grace's own signature dishes. We will probably go back to try different dishes, food was over salted. Salads were great."

  • "Johnny Carraba and his family have tried-and-true taste-full recipes, well executed at Grace's. The helpings were huge and expensive - wish there'd be the option of smaller servings. The decor is weird - unidentifiable. The waiters and waitresses were very nice but overall there were too many staff people saying thank you and such - it bordered on intrusive. I wanted to say, take it easy, be calm, we're fine. It is a spacious spot with divided areas. No choice but to valet park which is so annoying."

  • "Maybe it was my mood that night, but everything on the menu seemed very heavy. Chicken fried pork chops, smoked prime rib sandwiches. The fried calamari was delish, but very heavy and the sauce seemed heavier than it needed to be. I got the beet salad--fantastic, but too much dressing--once again, very heavy. The gumbo was good, just not my favorite. All in all, if you want heavy comfort food, I would say it would be great. The food definitely has a great taste. And I really wanted to love Johnny's new restaurant. I just didn't. I would encourage anyone to go and decide for him/herself. The decor itself is worth going for--lots of old dishes, Life magazine covers, that were Grace's."

  • "Excellent food from appetizers to dessert. Highly recommend. However, our waiter was non-existent the whole evening; worst waiter we have ever experienced. Waiters there are usually wonderful."

  • "Excellent service. Food was pepper heavy, especially the Pot Pie. Patrons can add black pepper at table if necessary."

  • "The ambience was casual elegance, but the noise level was high. Don't eat here if anyone in your party has any difficulty with hearing. The food was very, very good and the service was impeccable. Smoked ribeye steak was excellent."
    Dined on 6/20/2014
  • "Very nice premises, excellent service, but only the salad and dessert were good. The chicken pot pie looked wonderful, with gorgeous puffy crust, but it was full of black pepper! (Don't know if that was a mistake, or on purpose - this was our first visit). However, the beef short rib were also a bit too much black pepper. The restaurant itself was very nice, even romantic. and the service excellent. I'd like to give them another try, but I am afraid to take a companion there now."

  • "Carrabbas keeps adding to their long list of successful establishments with the opening of Grace's. A varied and interesting menu means everyone can find something they like to eat! The enchiladas and skirt steak are the best I've ever had! And, save room for the ice cream sundae with warm chocolate chip cookies. The service is very good...friendly, efficient wait staff. Food is served HOT...few places get it right, but Grace's certainly understands top standards."

  • "Overall, we enjoyed the meal however, my husband ordered the half chicken --it came boneless (as the waiter told us it would) but it was very small. We then found out that it is a cornish game hen half and NOT a regular 1/2 chicken. Therefore it looked rather underwhelming on the big white plate and my husband would not have been satisfied. The waiter was nice enough to change it out for the roast beef sandwich and then my husband was a happy camper. It was meaty, smokey and delicious! I had the shrimp burger on the pretzel bun. It was excellent! The pretzel bun and "shrimpyiness" along with the 1000 island dressing was especially palate pleasing. Also, had the tortilla soup--excellent!!"

  • "Unremarkable, and surprisingly average, for a Johnny Carrabba restaurant. Food ok with a menu that seems still trying to figure out what it wants to be; service s l o w e r as the night went on as they were too busy cleaning up. Wait until they figure it out..."
