Diner Reviews
  • "Had lunch with a party of 6. Once we got our beverages, it was 20 mins before our server came to take our order. It took another 40 mins to actually get our food. 4 of us ordered burgers and the other 2 ordered stir frys. The stir frys were hot and tasty. The burgers were all cold and one of the buns was covered in blood juice from a medium cooked burger that was asked to be cooked well done. None of the sides came out right. We finally complained to manager as the server didn't come back for a long time. Thankfully the manager comped the beverages and the one burger. I won't be back."

  • "Good was serviceable, but service was not good. The server missed two Irma we ordered and failed to bring condiments after two requests. Beer was good as expected, but the meatloaf was horrible."

  • "Dependable and good bar food. Great for happy hour or lunch, before or after an event at the sports center. Not fine dining but great for a burger and beer kind of meal. Service was excellent."

  • "Food was good, service and ambience very good. They delivered my bill without my credit card, which took them a while to find."

  • "We did not get service for 15 minutes after we sat down. When I brought this to the attention of the manager, we immediately got a free appetizer and the service after that was very attentive. They also gave us a business discount on the bill to apologize. The food was good and served hot. Their garlic fries were very good."

  • "I want to thank the staff at the resturant for accomodating my miscount on the number of diners. I placed a reservation for six and we actually had seven. I was very embarassed because it was a business function - not a family function. It was my fault but the staff accomodated us. Thanks again!"

  • "Food is very good, atmosphere is lively but not too loud. Right near the Verizon Center. Tables are not crowded together in the restaurant so it feels spacious. All in all, a very good experience. We would definitely come back when in DC."

  • "Always enjoy going to GB--did not realize that Tuesdays were $2.50 beers--nice surprise. Love the building (it was an old bank) at 9th st DC--just do not like the noise--can be deafening at times especially on hockey nights with fans."

  • "A kitchen fluke delayed our meal, but they more than made up for it with comp'd salads and dessert. We had time, so the delay didn't cause a problem. It was nice to see a business so concerned about doing what it could to make it up to the customer. The delay was not typical."

  • "We made a reservation for 4pm, but were delayed because of an accident on the Metro green line. I called the restaurant at 3:40 to tell them that we were running late because of Metro, and asked for a later reservation. The hostess informed me that they would mark our reservation down as "running late" and push it back for us. We ended up driving into the city and made it to the restaurant by 4:32; our table was waiting for us and the staff was very friendly and pleasant to deal with. Food and beer was delicious as always, and our waitress was wonderful! Very pleased, as always, and can't wait to dine there again!"

  • "As always, a great place before a Caps game! Service was a bit slower than usual - especially at the end, when you're trying to get out. But that's an anomaly - this remains my go-to place before Verizon Center events!"

  • "We needed something somewhat fast so we could make the start of a Wizard's game. When we got our food, the fries were soggy (perhaps slightly under-done) and there was a hair in my food. We had to leave to make the game so there was mo time to speak with a manager and wait for new food."

  • "I and my friends often go there prior to Capitals games, and this was one of those instances. We love the food and the service! I arrived first and awaited their arrival at the table. 15 minutes later, they arrived at the table, but only after having spent ten minutes looking for me. The hosts apparently had lost track of my name and couldn't help them find me at the table. Pretty bad! But we soon got over it and had a delightful meal."

  • "When you want to leave the guess-work out of finding a restaurant with both good food and service, this is your choice. Good meal and responsive wait staff. One of few "franchise" restaurants in this area."

  • "Had a quick bite at GB before the theater. We were running late and the restaurant was very helpful and made sure we were served on time and that we made it out in time for the show. I did not know there was a GB in DC until this reservation. Glad to know it's there."

  • "Not cheap and nothing special. Appetizers and main courses came out at the same time and main courses had to be sent back. Lobster/crab cakes were good, salads unusually bland. California locations had better good. Main room was very noisy."

  • "Kitchen management apparently got out of control, leaving some customers waiting "forever" (actually, about 45 minutes) for their food orders to be delivered. I eat lunch here a lot -- every 10 days or so -- and this has happened to me 4 times in the last 3 years. The manager's explanation this time was that a large party had thrown the kitchen off track, and other orders backed up before someone intervened. Managers have always apologized thoroughly and tried to make up for the problem by writing off some or all of the cost, but repeated recurrence of this problem -- which I rarely experience elsewhere -- makes me wonder if there's some problem within staff or management that they're just not addressing."

  • "Met friends here for dinner before the Capitals game. Good sports ambience, service and food. We were served promptly given how busy the restaurant was and we had ample time to converse, eat and get to the game before pick drop. Ver good selection of beers and the food was very tasty."

  • "Enjoyed eating and relaxing at Gordon Biersch in DC. The garlic fries are the best! Everyone in our party had delicious meals such as burgers and the mahi. The dessert sampler is the perfect ending to a great meal."

  • "If our table had been anywhere else, this would have been a perfect meal. The food was outstanding, great drink selection. Everytime the door to the restaurant opened, a cold blast of air (it was in the 30's outside) crossed our table. BRrrrr..."

  • "I and my friends gathered before a Capitals game at Gordon Biersch, as usual, and we all look forward to coming back for the great food, super service, and lively atmosphere. At least if the Caps don't do well in their game, we have had a great time together, starting with GB's."

  • "This restaurant has good beer and is known for the garlic fries. Other than that it has good bar food. Every time I have been it is crowded."

  • "I'd recommend for dinner before a show at the Verizon center - close by, good food though nothing spectacular, reservations available. Service was uneven; the food and drinks delivery weren't timed well. Our waitress was was very nice and we didn't feel rushed, but people delivering the drinks and food, and clearing plates were not the best. We were seated by the door, unfortunately, and got a cold burst of air every time someone came in. It was great before a show, but I wouldn't make a trip just to dine here."

  • "The food has always been above average and the visit was no different. I ordered from the lighter side menu for the first time. I ordered the spicy shrimp stir fry. It was delicious and filling. However, I made the mistake of adding more soy sauce and had muscle cramps later that afternoon due to too much sodium. Not the restaurant's fault, but beware not to add more soy sauce if you are sensitive to sodium intake. Hubby had fish and chips. We had forgotten how good the garlic fries are at GB!"

  • "We were able to get a same day reservation the night of a concert and had a great experience with the host staff and our server. The food was delicious and the building is beautiful. We had a great table and got in & out in great time for the show. We will definitely be back!"

  • "Although crowded and noisy on a Friday night, we got seated immediately, had good food and good service. With a 6:15pm reservation, we had plenty of time to make our 8pm show a few blocks away. Great beer selection, too."

  • "We enjoyed this restaurant for the great service and the setting in a converted bank right across from the International Spy Museum and Smithsonian American Art Museum."

  • "Great place to try their brewery's beers and also have some decent food. It's a chain restaurant so you get the same atmosphere anywhere. This location's service was below par. Our waitress did not respect our timeline to catch the Wizards game and one of the meals was completely missed and came out about 15 mins after all the other meals. Location is great for Verizon center events and the American fare is appetizing to just about anyone."

  • "Unless you are sticking with the burgers, the food is mediocre. Nevertheless, our server was suitably friendly and efficient, and the space is pretty (tho noisy)."

  • "Started with the Baja Tacos, which were excellent. Then had chicken sandwich and fish and chips. BF felt sandwich was "nothing special." I tried it and agreed. Looked like a fast food sandwich. Fish came out as giant fish sticks that were far more breading than actual fish. When I was done I had a giant mound of left over breading I had hacked away to get to the fish and achieve a proper fish-bread ratio. Had cheesecake for dessert--it was fine, but again, nothing special. Service was not very attentive. Had to wait quite a while for refills. I think I'll only be back for happy hour, not proper meals."

  • "Gordon Biersch is consistently good, with a large menu of options for a quick bite or a longer lounging dinner or lunch. I find their burgers hit the spot in particular!"

  • "As always, food was great, beer was great. Service was honestly not great. Inattentive waitress and we watched runners walk by our table two or three times with our orders before finding us. It really was not busy when we were there either. This is surprising, as our experience at GB is typically outstanding. Will try again - hopefully it was just an off night..."

  • "We went on Saturday night prior to the Caps game for dinner. Our food took a very long time to come out and the manger came over to apologize and offer us an appitizer to tide us over until our food came. When the food arrived, one of the meals was cold from sitting out so long. They brought out a new burger within 10 minutes, took it off the bill, and on top gave us a discount on the whole bill. Really made up for the long wait for our meal."

  • "Had the steakburger -- with a cup of chicken noodle soup to start -- and both were terrific. It was a cold night before a Caps game and both just hit the spot. The soups at GB are always very good but tonight's was a bit special. And the burger hit the jackpot. Our server, Joe, was very attentive and deserves an "atta boy.""

  • "I've been to this restaurant maybe five times and always have a good meal. This time around I had the steak frites while my friend had the jambalaya. My meal was good with a tangy sauce, which typically I don't like, but GB's sauce is good. My friends meal was good too (he belongs to the clean plate club) and remarked it was quite tasty. With no disrespect to this restaurant, there isn't much exciting to the menu, but every meal I've eaten here is well prepared and it is a go-to place when I am in town on business as it is close to my hotel. The service was just ok, although rated good in this review. I'm giving the waiter the benefit of the doubt as it seemed they were short-staffed that night."
