Diner Reviews
  • "Just wonderful food! Second visit....even better than the first dinner there."

  • "What an amazing place! We came to Anchorage just for the night and the food was AMaZING!! Get the special, whatever it is, the chef is a genius. The beef Penang is also delicious."

  • "Ginger is reliable for a great atmosphere and very consistent food on a regular basis. Waiting staff is very professional and generally good. I ate at Ginger two weekends in a row and it was good both times. For this reason I give it a good rating."

  • "Food was excellent. We had salmon. Server was on her 2nd day on job. We ordered a salmon entree and a kale salad, to share. Then, someone brings what looks like too much food to be a split entree. We tell this other person what we ordered. Next thing we know, they bring back both entrees and say one is on the house. The kale salad never appeared. So, our order was all mixed up, but it was a delightful resolution!"

  • "The Tuna Tower is a unique fabulous appetizer. I had the Filet- really a mainstream choice. It was cooked to perfection!"

  • "This place has it all: great, creative (but not too far out) food, friendly attentive service, and cool atmosphere. One of my very favorites!"
    Dined on 6/25/2014
  • "Ginger's menu was a combination of Alaskan seafood and game meats with an Asian flare. The sashimi tuna appetizer was delicious. Everything was unique and wonderful. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting Anchorage."

  • "My family and I tried Ginger based on good reviews. We were so satisfied with our dinner entree selections that we decided to go again for brunch on our last day. We preferred the dinner menu as they offered more seafood options. The quinoa/tofu salad and the banana/lemongrass soup were our favorites. I would definitely recommend this place to friends who plan to visit Anchorage."

  • "Gina our server was fabulous as was the king salmon special! The nightly specials never disappoint."

  • "Was a little disappointed with the amount of vegetables in your peanut noodle stir-fry. Was expecting more vergetables, less noodles. It was very good, however."

  • "The food was outstanding and the service was wonderful. Everyone in my party was very impressed with their meal."

  • "I'm in ANC monthly (business), and this was my "go-to" restaurant. Past dinners (10) were excellent. Recommended to my colleagues as "fantastic." This visit, and my last were disappointments. The redeeming feature was the prompt and courteous water server. I waited over 10 minutes for a server to stop at my table. (Restaurant did not seem too busy. I observed at least 8 open tables). He did not introduce himself, apologize for the wait, or even mention the specials. Perhaps he had no idea I had been there that long or thought someone else had the table. The vegan curry was mediocre. Unfortunately, 2 poor dining experiences within a 6 week period cancel out any of the great food and service I once experienced."

  • "Lots of tasty vegan and vegetarian options on the menu, they are also willing to make modifications. The online menu says they have a vegan dessert, but its not available in the restaurant. nice variety of mixed drinks and good wine. Service was excellent and our waiter knew what was vegan and what was not."

  • "We had a very nice meal here. We were early and were seated quickly. My elderly mother ordered the wrong type of wrap appetizer and the waiter immediately read her expression, cheerfully took it back and got her the Spring Rolls. They were very good as was the Thai crab soup. My mother & sister had the Thai Shrimp Noodle soup and enjoyed it very much. I had the Duck Breast. It was good, but they ran out off the gnocchi and substituted risotto. The dish would have been better without the risotto. I know that duck is served on the rare side, but this was too rare for me, so I had to eat it while it as hot. The Blueberry Eggrolls were great. The serving includes two rolls, which are very rich. Splitting an order would have been best."

  • "Excellent service and fabulous food! My friends and I dined on a special occasion and found the food so delish there was nothing remaining to take home! Thanks for a wonderful experience!"

  • "To celebrate our anniversary, I took my girlfriend and I to Ginger. I have never been but she has once for a holiday get together with her family. Being vegans we knew our options would be limited but my, how we were surprised. Tofu has never tastes better. To sum up, go here for any occasion. I promise you will not be disappointed."

  • "Blueberry pie egg rolls were good! Vegan curry portion was small. The char Siu pork ribs were good"

  • "As a vegan on my first visit to Anchorage, AK I wasn't expecting to find great food. Ginger was a pleasant surprise. From what looks like a typical downtown sushi bar on the our dude turned out to be a culinary delight. Their baby kale sale with feta, watermelon and green olives was divine! I also had a wonderful butternut squash, banana and hot pepper soup that provided multiple surprises with each spoonful. For dessert their bowl of mixed berries is unique in that it is drizzled with balsamic vinegar and powdered sugar, then topped off with coconut sorbet. Overall, the meal was an unforgettable one and it made my otherwise dull trip to Alaska worthwhile."

  • "One thing I hate most while on vacation, or any time is to be rushed! Our over zealous waiter was just doing that, to the point I told him we were not in a hurry. Ahi tuna tower was fresh and flavorful, but we have had better. Next strawberry chili salad we split, nice balance of flavors with a little bit of spice. We split the decedent scallop and Mac n cheese. I can't imaging eating all myself! Scallops were big and plump - seared perfectly. Mac and cheese with hint of truffle oil was delightful. The lower rating was for the tuna and the rush. Over all I'd be back if they change up their menu for different seasons."
    Dined on 5/30/2014
  • "Everything about ginger was very good to great, but the one thing i didn't totally enjoy was how close the seating was. The table's are a little small and very close to each other."

  • "Went there by recommendations and loved it will be back to have another special date with my girl friend and the server Mike or Mark he was from Philly and new to anchoanchorage was the greatest"
    Dined on 5/16/2014
  • "Our waiter was knowledgeable, friendly, knew the menu with perfect wine pairings for the food. We had the scallops with macaroni and cheese, and the special of the evening- wagu sirloin with fingerling potatoes, the tuna appetizers were outstanding, I almost just ordered more of that instead of a main course. The sauces and seasonings were just right to bring out flavor of the meats and seafood without overpowering; adding salt or pepper at the table would have been a crime."

  • "I like this restaurant and have been here a few times before. Great ambiance and decor. I liked their brunch menu - the Biscuits and Gravy and Hot Mess were divine! Of the 4 meals we had 3 were very good and one (burger) was not so great. Good service from wait staff but it seemed like our food was a bit slow to come out. All in all it was an enjoyable meal and I will come back again."

  • "Well worth the trip. We had the spring rolls with mint cilantro sauce to start. I had the filet mignon with teriyaki glaze while my girlfriend had the pork tenderloin, both were amazing, we were stealing off each other's plates. We shared the blueberry egg rolls which was a perfect finish to the meal. This was our second time at Ginger and it was so good the first time I was shocked they could top themselves the second time. "

  • "Although I asked for Rare and it came more medium, Hangar Steak was good. One of my dinner companions had the Scallops Mac and Cheese which was very yummy and a large portion. The king salmon special was "good but not spectacular" according to my other dinner companion. The wine list was good and their dessert was also yummy. "

  • "Chose Ginger for a special occasion. Arrived early for a pre-show dinner, allowing two hours to dine. Server was friendly & seemed efficient. Appetizer was adequate, salad was good. This is where the meal deteriorated. Ten minutes after our salads were cleared, the server came to apologize saying our entrees would be up soon. We proceeded to wait 45 MORE minutes for our meals, unable to get her attention. I'd overheard the server arguing with the line about where my entree went. My husband's pork tenderloin had obviously been waiting under the heat while mine was remade, for it was flavorless and dry. My "medium" filet was very rare, tough, fatty, and impossible to cut. Server offered to "box it up" since we had to leave in five minutes"

  • "Ginger is always a top choice when we dine out. It was quiet and calm on Easter Sunday evening, which was unusual but enjoyable. The penang beef curry and vegan curry are top choices in our group. The kale salad was outstanding; a nice addition to the menu. There's always a good beer and wine selection. We'll return."

  • "Ordered Cornish game hen. They said that quail would be substituted. The dish I was served was hardly fit to eat. Very small portion. I had to pick it up and try to gnaw scarce meat off the bone. Wasn't prepared per the menu. "

  • "The menu has changed since the last time we were there. Went planning on having the Broccoli beef but they no longer serve it. Had the Beef with root rash instead and it was amazing. This is a great downtown place to eat where you have a lot of different choices and the menu changes up so you don't get bored. I will definitely be back."

  • "Anchorage has a great food scene to rival most major L48 cities and Ginger sits atop the list. Chef Cristiani is creating memorable Pan Asian dishes with the freshest ingredients. The spicy tuna tower or the pork satay are great starters. For an entree, get the fresh fish special, whatever it is. We really like the Panang Beef Curry. Everything is a beautiful presentation."

  • "The restaurant was full and its a good thing we had reservations. A family of six was being seated in the bar w/o reservations but I overheard kids were ok there as long as not sitting at the bar. The staff was very polite and accomodating. Our waiter talked to the chef to ensure certain allergens were not being used. The Vegan curry dish was delicious though the portion seemed very small and left us wanting more. The ginger peach sorbet for dessert was fabulous. I wont hesitate to dine here again."

  • "Always love coming there. Was sorry I missed Matt. Tell him Aunt Willy said hello"

  • "My husband took me out for my birthday and we had a lovely time. He had the Scallop Mac and Cheese (his favorite thing to order when shark isn't available) and I indulged in the Mee Krob, which did not disappoint. Our server was polite and expeditious, particularly when I mentioned we were trying to make it to a movie later that evening. We found Ginger one random night in November and since then has become "our place" for special occasions or surprise date nights. The staff is always wonderful, informative and friendly, and the food is always amazing and worth the extra hour on the treadmill. Overall, it's a gem in Anchorage's already full downtown restaurant scene, and it's perfect for a night on the town."

  • "The food was beautifully presented. I had the scallops with kimchi mashed potatoes. At first those potatoes were a little overwhelming, but when eaten with the scallops in a smaller amount it let the scallops stand on their own to start with and then followed up with a very complementary and interesting taste. A great surprise in combinations."
