Gertrude'sBeautiful setting, good food,Beautiful setting, good food, perfect amount. Loved the attentive service! .5/21/2013 12:00:00 AMMemorableI mostly enjoyed the location and the ambience After my graduation we ate there and had the opportunity to take pictures outside where interesting sculptures were located. Since I am a culture lover, the Baltimore Art Museum was a perfect location for me. The service was great and they were very flexible.
After we paid the bill, they even let us (group of 7) hang out at our table for at least another hour. But the best part is that they surprised me with a Congratulations desert as I think they saw me with my graduation gown.5/21/2013 12:00:00 AMPerfect Celebratory MealI went here to celebrate my graduation with family and friends. The food was delicious, the waiter was kind and accommodating. The portions were the perfect size, not too much food but also not too little. The weather was gorgeous so we got to sit outside and enjoy the view of the fountains and sculptures. It was also a great place to take a few photos to remember the occasion.5/21/2013 12:00:00 AMGertie's GroovesTuesdays with Gertie's beat Tuesdays with Morrie anytime, and Morrie was good. The Maryland Chicken is astounding, the biscuits sublime. Have the soup. Have the fish. Have whatever you can and try something you mightn't normally because it will surprise and please.5/21/2013 12:00:00 AMNoiseEverything was fine except the noise level.I guess that nothing can be done with the stone and glass walls. When the band would take a break it was tolerable. On a previous occasion, there was background music. This time it was much louder and although probably nice music, it was overbearing. My Mother In Law had an awful time with it and even though I have good hearing,I couldn't hear conversation at the table when they played. We were at the opposite end of the room from the band.5/19/2013 12:00:00 AMI loved the ambience of Gertrude'sI loved the ambience of Gertrude's and will certainly return. The food was a little disappointing, but that could have just been what I ordered.5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMgood food, Maryland seafoodgood food, Maryland seafood and local specialties, and lovely museum sculpture garden setting.5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent foodWe had a great meal. Our food was just delicious. The waitress had a great personality although the bartender was a bit slow getting drinks to her and poured the wrong wine once. The sculpture garden is a great place to sit and they have live music on Friday nights.5/17/2013 12:00:00 AMWe visited for a family celebrationWe visited for a family celebration. Service was not rushed, and the server was extremely efficient and readily assisted one of us with making sure some food "intolerances" were identified and avoided with the menu. The calamari appetizer was huge! The duck breast would have used more seasoning but the portion was very generous. Desserts were also large. We especially liked the effort to provide local, sustainable and vegetarian food items.5/17/2013 12:00:00 AMgreat restaurantI am happy with my decision to dine at gertrude's after my graduation. Beautiful atmosphere, great food and wonderful customer service! Other than the food taking a little long to come out... I would rate this restaurant 5 stars!5/17/2013 12:00:00 AMFive of us dined on a busyFive of us dined on a busy Friday at 1:00 pm. Our choices varied widely over the menu from a prosaic burger to the seafood salad (yum!). Our server was quite attentive, considering how busy he was. Overall, it was a nice experience again.5/17/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat Museum-Great RestaurantWonderful seafood offerings- The BMA and Gertrudes work together so well, definitely a Baltimore destination!5/15/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat outdoorEvery time I go here, I'm pleasantly surprised by how great everything is. Had the pork sliders, and the zuchettes to start, followed by the tuna steak and rock fish, and we ended with key lime pie and the chocolate decadence.
Everything was delicious! The outside seating is beautiful and definite plus!5/15/2013 12:00:00 AMPerfect Mother's DayThe best Mother's Day ever! My wonderful sons took me to Gertrude's- we were seated in the beautiful sculpture garden- the food was delicious and the owner/chef John Shields even came to visit us at our table and was so delightful. We will definately return!!5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMWe 'sLove GertrudeLovely setting for Mother's Day brunch.
The food is consistently good and the service very good5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat Dining Gem!My family and I went there on Saturday for brunch and thought it was amazing! The food and service were great and we toured the museum afterwards making it a wonderful way to spend the morning. Our waiter mentioned the "Afternoon Tea" that they do once a month and my daugthers and I are looking forward to trying that in June. Wonderful place!5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMOutstanding Service and ambianceI hosted a bridal luncheon for 8 on a very busy weekend and we did not have any problems. Our server Elena was so professional and attentive to our groups needs. The cream of crab soup was smooth and delicious and the berry salad was fresh and chilled perfectly. All other diners enjoyed their meals as well. I have been here several times and have never had a bad experience. Great outdoor patio for dining as well.5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMGertrude's food, service andGertrude's food, service and ambience are consistently top notch. I have dined here for both brunch and dinner on several occasions and each time was as good as, if not better than, the last.5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMConsistently good. One ofConsistently good. One of our go-to restaurants - never disappointed5/9/2013 12:00:00 AMMuch improvedHello,
We have dined at Gertrudes many many times over the years and while the food and was consistently good, the service
and attitude of the hostess was not. We actually left the restaurant last year when refused seating we thought would be more comfortable and suit our needs. We were pleased to that on May 3rd the host was very accomodating and the
server was attentive. We also appreciate the Saturday night jazz.5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat food, quality and greatGreat food, quality and great presentation. Great vegetarian/vegan selections5/2/2013 12:00:00 AMAlways a fine experienceBrought a good friend of mine here for Thursday dinner and she was rightfully impressed with the food (Smith Is. Crab cakes- A+) and the surroundings...always a great experience at Gertrudes: consistent and reliable.
My friend did suggest that the side, Asian noodle dish, might be offered warmed or cold :)5/2/2013 12:00:00 AMAlways a great place for aAlways a great place for a quality meal. Oyster Stew lacked the usual richness but everything else we ordered was top-notch.5/2/2013 12:00:00 AMTuesdays with Gertie's is a TreatStellar service and food on the Tuesday specials, the only downside was the desserts were not quite up to our expectations. On the whole, our time was well spent.4/30/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat Lunch!Stopped in for a long lunch with an old friend on a week day. We had great service, and he didn't mind that we took up a table for almost 2 hours! I had a tomato and porcini mushroom soup that was more on the just OK side, but I ordered the Spinach Salad with fried oysters, and oh my goodness was this one of the best salads I've have in a while. And the oysters were perfection! My friend had the Grilled Cheese and soup, and all were delicious for her, especially the fries. We split the Creme Brulee sampler for dessert, but should have just ordered the regular vanilla bean brulee, as it was the best of the three (though the pistachio was pretty good). A great lunch spot, will definitely go back!4/30/2013 12:00:00 AMPerfect Spot for Every Occasion!Gertrudes is my favorite go-to spot for practically every occasion. Sunday Brunch is a quintessential laid-back, jazzy affair with fabulous food. I've been to casual lunch in the sculpture garden and buisiness lunches under the tent -- John Shield's extensive, imaginative menu is always appropriate! BTW Shields was "doing" local and sustainable way before the trend kicked in - he incorporates his famed Chesapeake flavor into everything. An added bonus is it's location - in the BMA!4/28/2013 12:00:00 AMThe cream of crab soup didn'tThe cream of crab soup didn't have enough crabmeat, but otherwise the food was quite good. Our waitress more than made up for anything lacking in the kitchen.
Loved the unique minty soda. We had a wonderful time.4/28/2013 12:00:00 AMPretty GoodI went on a Saturday morning for brunch with my boyfriend and Aunt. I ordered the stuffed French toast, which was honestly just so-so. I wish that it had more of the cream cheese honey filling and the apples were cooked to mush. My boyfriend ordered the steak rancheros and he absolutely loved it. My aunt had the traditional crab cake with a side Caesar salad and she raved about it. Our waiter was awesome and the atmosphere was just perfect! I thought I would have trouble finding parking but there was a lot right by the restaurant. I would definitely come back again.4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat lunch spot for pre-artGreat lunch spot for pre-art viewing, or just a get-together with friends. Wonderful attentive service without being intrusive.4/26/2013 12:00:00 AMWe always enjoy dining atWe always enjoy dining at Gertrude's. Always reliable, yummy food. Has never disappointed.4/23/2013 12:00:00 AMredundant carbsToo noisy. Hard to have one on one conversation.
Also: with a sandwich order, the bread basket and orzo salad seems redundant. Why not a small green salad instead?4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMwe loved everything aboutwe loved everything about it.
Great place to take our JHU student for some very good food.4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMThumbs Up!!!I took my daughter to dinner and we both loved the place. Great food and very reasonable prices. Be sure to get the sorbet sampler for desert. The best we ever had!!!!4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMBland FoodOur food was not as spectacular as we would have hoped. Very bland. Reading the menu prepares your mind for a meal that falls way too short for such delicious entree descriptions.4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMA neigborhood gemThis wonderful gem in Baltimore at the BMA has been a favorite of mine for many years. The menu - mostly seafood, especially blue crab, never disappoints.4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMYou matradee was extremelyYou matradee was extremely friendly and checked on us after being seated +++4/12/2013 12:00:00 AMEverything was good. VERYEverything was good. VERY noisy because it was packed mid-week for lunch.4/11/2013 12:00:00 AMHad an excellent lunch withHad an excellent lunch with soup and half sandwich. couldn't have been better. Fresh and delicious 7 grain bread and great veggies and cheese. Would go back anytime especially for beautiful outdoor dining.4/9/2013 12:00:00 AMSeating near the "corner"With a reservation for two made well in advance, I was disappointed that a better seating location was not available to us. We found that the table for two near the doorway to the kitchen was distracting from the ambiance. The constant sound of servers calling "corner" as they moved from dining room to kitchen was annoying and servers passing by the table and between seated guests created a situation where the guest seated on the outside of this table needed to look out for servers brushing up close against them.
Yes, I could have requested a table change, but I didn't want to complain. Nevertheless, this table should be kept for last possible seating, definitely not offered when there were many other options available at 5:30 p.m.4/9/2013 12:00:00 AMWe got the crab cake and fishWe got the crab cake and fish of the day and ate every bite. Delicious!!4/7/2013 12:00:00 AMI was looking for a nice placeI was looking for a nice place to have brunch with my grandmother, and Gertrude's was perfect. The noise level was a bit high for someone losing her hearing, especially with the live chamber music (which was beautiful), but everything else about it was just what we were looking for. Delicious food, good ambiance, gracious service; all around a delightful experience. And the location in a free museum certainly doesn't hurt.4/7/2013 12:00:00 AMWe thoroughly enjoyed everyWe thoroughly enjoyed every aspect of our dining experience.4/7/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food as usual at Gertrude'sThe food as usual at Gertrude's was excellent. Deserts were delicious as well. The only negative about Gertrude's are the maitre d. They are always very snobby. I had a reservation made on OpenTable, but maybe it didnt get into their system. In any case, she gave me an attitude of annoyance and boredom that was quite off-putting. During summer, the male maitre d' wouldnt let my group of 4 sit inside during the hot summer month because he said the tables were booked. There were about 6 empty tables inside we could have sat at. NO ONE sat at any of those tables during our entire 1.5 hour breakfast. When leaving, I asked the male maitre d' about it, and he said those spots are held for 3+ hrs per reservation. Hmmm, seems unlikely.4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMNice regional menu. The foodNice regional menu. The food was excellent. Quiet background jazz guitarist was a nice touch. Bonus was the presence of the restaurant attached to the art museum. If you go to the museum late in the afternoon, you can finish your day at this wonderful restaurant.4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat for kids, beautiful settingI took three 2nd graders for lunch after spending the morning at the Family Program at the BSO. The service was excellent, but we did receive our brunch breads about the same time our entrees were served. I had a hamburger and had high expectations, this being Gertrude's and it was local beef, but it was just average and completely overcooked. (I ordered medium rare and it was very well done, I should have sent it back to the kitchen. Gertrude's had a great kids menu and the girls loved their lunch. Substitutions for fruit in place of fries were easily made. We will return.4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMWonderful Diniong Experience! We were celebrating the announcement of my nephew and his wife's pregancy - and the atmospher and ambiance of Gertrude's during the brunch/lunch hour was the perfect setting! The restaurant is absolutely beautiful with an awesome scenic view -being at the Museum adds to the ambiance. We had an absolutel wonderful dinning experience for first time patrons. Thank you.4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMGertrude's is a lovely placeGertrude's is a lovely place to enjoy a delicious dinner. We have never been disappointed any time we visit.4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMIt was great.
