Diner Reviews
  • "We've eaten here before and certainly will again. The food, service and view are all wonderful. The fact that this restaurant is so much quieter than others also is a huge plus. The dining area is covered outdoor and the night we were there is was a bit chilly so they did put down some shades in strategic areas that helped to keep everyone warm. Would definitely recommend this restaurant as a go to in Kauai. "

  • "Food: Tomato soup was salty, and I am a person who usually adds salt to food. The short rib dip sandwich with whipped horseradish was fabulous! Tender and tasty. Service: Not so great Note: If dining outside and if it is breezy, your meal will get cold very quickly."

  • "Great for people who like historical sites and good food. Brunch was wonderful and the shops around the property were fun too."

  • "We took friends to Gaylord's to end our visit in Kauai on a special note. We each had a delicious dinner. The atmosphere was such that we could hear talk and enjoy each other's company."

  • "Friendly hostess, superb seating, fast bar service, prompt waiter appearance, waiter introduced himself , food arrived in a timely manner, not to fast, not to slow. Warm, fresh. Meal not rushed, service was attentive but not overbearing."

  • "I haven't been to Kauai for years, but remember this restaurant as being a highlight. Sadly, it is no longer. Our Sunday brunch on 4/6/14 was much less (in array of food and quality of food) than expected for the price - I would have preferred to order off a menu because there were individual items that were quite nice. The music was good but where are the Clydesdales? A buggy ride around the grounds was part of the reason to go to Gaylords. The grounds are still beautiful and we were able to walk around a bit. But, we won't be going back."

  • "Poor Sunday Brunch. Food was not replenished when we arrived at 12 noon."

  • "Love the food and the setting. Both beautiful! Save room for the banana cream pie in the coconut crust. We always include Gaylord's in our trips to Kauai. Our guests also enjoy the whole Kilohana experience: house, grounds, shops, train and rum tasting."

  • "This is a converted historic plantation house on an old sugar plantation. Sat outside on the patio in the courtyard. Service was exceptional and the food was great. Special place and worth the visit. The banana cream pie was amazing."

  • "Food was great, sevice poor (especially for coffee refills, special order for eggs benedict was botched and took a long time), outside atmosphere was good."

  • "I have been coming to this restaurant every other year for the past 20 years. Each time is a pleasure. The food, service, and setting are outstanding."

  • "Gaylord's is back and, based on this experience, firing on all cylinders once again. The food was excellent and the wine list comprehensive. The setting is also excellent though I have to say the old place is getting close to needing some (serious) work done on her.... The staff were great - even though they were a little exuberant to close up (as is most of Kauai after 9:00 PM unfortunately). A little pricey, perhaps, but compared with some of the over-priced junk down in Poipu this is a steal and the ambiance alone is worth the price tag. One (small) niggle: the noise from the Luau is a little distracting and does impact quiet conversation. Apart from that though: another perfect evening at Gaylord's: really can't wait to go back (soon!)."

  • "We had the catch of the day and it was so good...one of those dishes you are sad when your plate is clean! The mahi-mahi was generously portioned, tender and the flavor was great; the creamy lemongrass sauce was the perfect compliment. It was served on a mound of white rice. Had a side of onion rings that were perfectly battered, with fat, juicy and sweet onions. (I am a sucker for onion rings - must try them all.) We also had the capresé appetizer and that was also good. For dessert we split the banana creme pie and that was also great. Coconut crust with a creamy filling. Going back for the hawaiian dessert - too full to have two desserts. Highly recommend."

  • "We have been coming to Kauai every year since 2001 and Gaylord's is our favorite place for a special evening. The setting is very nice and we have never had a bad meal there. We often have friends join us on the island and always make sure to take them to Gaylord's."

  • "Always such a pleasure to come here. Service, drinks, and food some of the best on the island! Love the appetizer leek tart and Monchong entree.....and Gino, a delightful server."

  • "I try to get to Gaylords every time I visit Kauai. I was very pleased when I arrived for lunch and the hostess had saved a table at the end of the patio with a view of the green field. Life was great for 10 minutes until a large party with a screaming baby was seated just behind me. Note to parents: If the kid is screaming while walking INTO the restaurant, perhaps someone should hang outside a bit to calm things down instead of making such a 'grand' entrance. Well, the screaming continued and the excitement of our special experience faded quickly. We asked to move to a quieter table and continued our meal. Food and service were great, as usual. You'd just think that the best table in the house wouldn't be right next to the noisiest."

  • "Beautiful scenery nice music but not as great as the last visit or as intimate. Food a bit of a let down smaller and drier scallops rubber like in texture and dry side to add not a good combo. Crab dip app was just ok but leek app but great surprise! Dessert delicious as the ice cream pie a new fav."

  • "We've eaten in many restaurants in our 24 years and extensive travels and will say everything about Gaylord's is beyond any expectation you can have for an experience of the best of the best. The food, atmosphere, service, entertainment beverage selection was better than exceptional! This restaurant holds the bar high for standards and we would return every time we were in the area! Thank you for a night we will always remember !!!"

  • "I enjoyed my salad and ahi entrée. I asked for the ahi to be rare, and the chef delivered perfectly. That was dark red, cool center ahi. My wife had the poke and the cioppino. She asked if the calamari could be sautéed and not deep fried. The chef delivered perfectly. I think that may be her new favorite dish. The service is amiable and prompt. There is no sense of rush from cocktail to coffee."

  • "Brunch at Gaylord's is always special and we make sure to go every time we're on Kauai. The ahi Benedict is one of their signature dishes. Amazing. Don't miss their homemade malasadas (like donuts). Go early for a quiet, peaceful atmosphere."

  • "Before we headed to the airport to return home after a month on Kauai we decided to have one last pleasant experience. That experience was to have lunch and enjoy the food and view. As we expected it was a pleasant experience."

  • "We noticed there are less choices than in previous years, plus food was not really hot."

  • "We have been there for lunch, the service was much better and likewise on the food. Brunch is very busy, the wait staff completely ignored us except to pick up plates between trips to the buffet. I had to ask the waitress 3 times for my selected entree. She finally brought it after the rest of the qroup I was with had finished dessert. Those that ordered bottleless champagne got two glass, but only by asking our invisable waitress several times."

  • "Our family had a wonderful brunch together but it would have been better to have more food options for the price. Great atmosphere and live music was nice."

  • "We have been coming to Gaylord's for years. First we were coming for special occasions but then decided to treat ourselves when ever the mood his us. The visit on the 22nd was to celebrate my husband's birthday. Again we were so pleased we had picked Gaylord's. Would highly recommend Gaylord's to one and all!"

  • "Feeling of old Hawaiian plantation living with exquisite food. Beautiful, quiet, tranquil, patio dining experience. We had the leek tart with fresh fish entree and loved every bite"

  • "Had an enjoyable brunch at Gaylords. The setting is beautiful and there was live Hawaiian music entertainment. Food was good. In addition to the standard breakfast items which were tasty, you can order an entrée. The ahi benedict was delicious. They have a fixed priced for unlimited sparkling wine and a Bloody Mary bar. Thought the price for brunch was worth the price."

  • "Our brunch experience was good.. The only bad comment would be service. It took a long time for server to come tell us how everything worked. After we were finished took quite awhile to get attention of server for check. Loved the food and in all fairness she did have a lot of tables to work,"

  • "We had early (5:30) reservations. We were seated at a table for 2 near the end of the patio. The view of the sunset was perfect. The service, food and atmosphere were all very good. We had dined here 3 years ago but plan to return next year during our annual visit to Kauai."

  • "The venison special was the best my husband had ever eaten ( & he likes wild game). We have been coming to Kauai every February for the last 10 years and our Valentine's Day dinners have always been at Gaylord's. Everyone is so cordial and we love the atmosphere and the food. Hopefully we will be spending our next 10 years having our Valentine dinner at Gaylord's!"

  • "Gaylord's was highly recommended by a couple we met at the luau on the same grounds. Everything about the restaurant was great from the décor to the personnel to the food. Our waiter and his assistants were friendly and informative. If you like fresh crusty bread rolls served with dinner you'll love theirs. A great overall dining experience."

  • "I look forward to dining at Gaylord's. The plantation house provides a great ambience, particularly on the patio. More importantly the food is great with impressive presentation. There are a number of fine dining choices in the area now but I make sure to include this one in my plans and have never been disappointed and recommend it without hesitation ."

  • "We return to Gaylord's on every visit to Kuaii . The avocado tomato mozzarella salad is exceptional. My scallops were also cooked to perfection., it was served with a lentil arugula salad, which was very inventive and very good. My husband had the New York steak. He enjoyed it however as is the case lately in many restuarants, the beef occasionly has a lot of grizzle marbled in it. He is not one to send things back so if he had I am sure they would have been accomodating. The green beans served with it were barely cooked and very hard. I would have given them 5 stars if not for the steak and beans. We will return, as all restuarants have occasional hiccups. I would recommend to anyone."

  • "The restaurant is very historic and has lots of things to do and read about. The music was great. We sat outside and really enjoyed the flowers, etc. The food was plentiful, but not outstanding in flavor. The steak and eggs were not worth getting! We did have the Champagne Brunch which was worth the money. The champagne flowed."

  • "We have been coming to this restaurant every year for the past three years we have been on Kauai. We really like the atmosphere, the menu and the personal. It has always been a very nice experience. No complain. In addition, this year, live music was played at the bar. The musician was great and it was the cherry on the cake for the evening."

  • "Went for Sunday Brunch, 2nd time since 2012 visit to Kauai. Delicious food, superb service, although pricey at $30 each, and worth every bit. The ahi tuna eggs benedict is to die for. One of the best dishes I've ever had and I've been on lots of high-end cruises (no NCL or Carnival for us) where gourmet food is a top feature. The historic plantation house invites exploring. I highly recommend."
