  • "Gather is always delicious. It has a creative healthy menu and wonderful staff to round of a wonderful experience. "

  • "The spicy tomato pizza was very flavorful and tasty. The crust was fresh and crunchy."

  • " the arugula salad was great! but I expected a lot more out of my $15 burger. it was dry and flavorless. that was disappointing but I won't be discouraged and will try again. "

  • "Not only was the food outstanding the presentation was worthy of an art exhibit!"

  • "Main course was great: the chickpea dish and the swordfish. The salad was way over dressed and overshadowed the mixture of ingredients. Next time I will send it back since it wasn't up to your usual standard."

  • "I made a reservation a week in advance for my daughter 21 birthday. All four of us vegetarians, one vegan and gf - not always easy to find a fancy place to eat that would accommodate that . The food was very exquisite - the taste and presentation - WOW! We ordered Vegan “Charcuterie” as a starter, it was pure awesomeness! Service was very friendly but not annoying - just perfect! Food is rather pricey but ok for a special occasion and quality . I highly recommend this place. "

  • "A group of 4 with mixed tastes. Everyone left happy. My mum and a family friend shared the little gem salad and a pizza - both were exceptional. My dad loved his pork belly starter and roast chicken entrée. As a vegan, it was amazing to get such terrific choices. The vegan charcuterie was fabulous and the chickpea dish was delicious. We will definitely visit again before Berkeley Rep."

  • "I've been here for dinner before and loved it. Not so much for lunch. Had a pleasant sandwich, but nothing outstanding. And a lukewarm, bitter cup of coffee. The restaurant was busy but not overly so. And our server breezed by several times without stopping. I don't like to stand up and flag down a server, and I expect him/her to check in on the table. He did -- just when we were finishing. At no time did he offer to refill our long-empty water glasses, and he said nothing about the coffee that I had had only a few sips of. Geesh."

  • "I was so looking forward to eating here but the service was so horrendous I wouldn't return or recommend it. The Little Gems salad was delicious but then we waited nearly an hour for a our pizza. We finally asked the waiter why the wait was so long and he told us he wanted to give us time to eat our salad, which we finished 30 minutes earlier. When he finally brought our pizza, it was nearly cold. It might have been pretty good if it was still hot. There's no excuse for such service at a restaurant like this. Go to LoCoco's - the service is warm and inviting and the pizza is hot and bubbly. Gather has much to learn."

  • "We used to dine there often. It seemed more, and was more , novel às a cutting edge vegan and carnivore friendly gourmet spot. It is still all that, yet, I suppose, something is stuck. The limited menu options and advanced palate "education " requirement make the ego of ordering more of a challenge than an adventure."

  • "Two starters; steamed mussles and the beef tartare… The steamed mussles had one of the best sauces we have ever had; lucious! The beef tartare was very good also. Followed up with the asparagus pizza and asked that they add some pancetta; yummy. All with a nice bottle of Iron Horse bubbly… What doesn't go with a top end california sparkling wine? Highly recommended. Michael, our waitperson provided very attentive service."

  • "The Poppy Sour and Cali 45 primed our taste buds for the rest of the meal. The pork belly and vegan charcuterie were both amazing in their own way. The spicy lentils were mellowed by the unctous pork belly and fried egg. I'm always looking for inspiring ways to serve veggies and the charcuterie platter was no let down. Four different preparations of the season's finest veg dressed in purée, smoked oil and herbs. My favorite was the mushroom pate!"

  • "Been here before for breakfast so wanted to check out the Sunday brunch. Had the kale salad, bacon and egg pizza, and arguably more champagne than necessary. It was all delicious and would recommend hitting this place up for your next brunch."

  • "She is a keeper-she was non-stop-very efficient and extremely hard working-so deserving of a great big raise. We love this place but our last visit was a little off-took forever to get our food-3 tables that came after us were served 1st. The food was not up to par-my husband is diabetic and asked if the pancakes were whole wheat-it was some kind of wheat and spiked his sugar level to 300. We have a really tough time getting reservations on weekends but when we get there-it is not full-so using opentable is not a prefer method."

  • "Went to Gather for our anniversary but did not tell them in advance. I waited almost 10 minutes to get noticed by the host who was not at the front for awhile as he was setting up tables. We did get seated but it was by the kitchen, not a big deal but in retrospect, we should have asked for a better table. The wait was not excessive for food after our order was taken, and it was hot so it had been picked up right when ready. I liked this restaurant but felt the portions were large and would have preferred a cheaper price and smaller portion. I think their emphasis on vegetables is a good thing but spent over $100 for 2 starters, 2 entrees, a small dessert and 1 glass of wine. Next time would get pizza and share a salad."

  • "The Gather chef is truly exceptional. We tried the vegan charcuterie which is outstanding with its carefully curated flavours. I had the pork belly and lentil dish which was perfect with the citrus salad and my husband tried the delicious chickpea dish. Very dishy :)."

  • "Gather never fails to impress. Went for my usual go-to (for 2 people) - the Vegan Charcuterie and the Spicy Tomato pizza - a perfect sharing option for 2 with some pizza likely leftover for the next day. the Semifreddo was recommended for dessert and it was not a disappointment. Even though neither of my party are vegetarians - this meal always feels like the perfect balance of taste-bud tantalization, nourishment and a little comfort food with the pizza. The rotating kale salads are also usually excellent. Highly recommended."

  • "My husband and I have been here twice, and both times fully enjoyed our experience. The appetizers are wonderful- definitely indulge! The wait staff is very friendly and attentive as well. Our waiter walked us through cocktail decisions (I am not a cocktail drinker, so he spent time finding one that I would likely enjoy, and was right on) and also gave a great wine recommendation to accompany dinner. The food tastes wonderfully fresh and blends unique flavors to enhance the overall top notch experience."

  • "Foodwise I remember best the kale salad, the pork belly and the ice cream dressed with hard caramel pieces. At the time our main dish should have arrived the waiter came to inform us that the pizza didn't come out They were going to remake one, and also re-cook my main dish. WOW. The pizza was a bit lackluster, my chicken enjoyable, with the most wonderful "stuff" accompanying it. And then Gather gave us a free desert for the long wait. WOW again. I like being taken care of like that. Noise level: . Tone it down! We subsequently went to the Zellerbach, a short walk. Overall, the experience was so good that we will glady return again and again."

  • "A 1:00 PM reservation thanks to Open Table. Everything was outstanding and paced perfectly. Team service kept us smiling throughout - the restaurant was busy, but we were always in our server's keen eyesight. Asked for recommendations on the lunch menu and ordered the Kale Salad (FANTASTIC!), the Spicy Tomato Pizza (Phenom) as well as the beef sandwich / mushroom sandwich, small lettuce salad and the tremendous split pea soup. Kombucha was also a delightful refresher. Thanks again Gather - cannot wait for our next trip to Berkeley - you made this reunion special."

  • "The food here is very high-end. The menu is always interesting and varied. They know how to mix different flavors together and create a unique dining experience. Unfortunately, great things in life come at a high price."

  • "Nice cozy restaurant. The service was great, very friendly. My friends and I went here for a weekend brunch and we ordered asparagus potato pizza, pancakes and Acme walnut french toast. We were very pleased with each dishes. I really enjoyed the french toast. I am not a big carb eater but after lunch I slipped into a happy food coma. I would definitely come back."

  • "It's very hard to get a decent pizza in the Bay Area. I'm completely unimpressed with Delfina, Gioia, Cheese Board. The crust simply isn't good enough. I used to have to go all the way to Ca' Momi in Napa to get a decent pizza. The crust here is decent. Everything else is as you'd expect for this kind of casual, rustic, expensive place. It's also quiet enough to have a conversation, which makes it a great place to have lunch."

  • "The title says it all. The food was tasty, albeit a tad overpriced. The service was disappointing. The hostess was friendly, but the server didn't care to check on us even once throughout the duration of our dinner. Yet, he certainly checked on all his other tables repeatedly. We would have ordered more drinks had he asked. Apparentaly, our money wasn't as green? I also found the various inquiring gazes by other diners/servers to be a tad alienating. There was definitely a white, liberal nimby vibe in this supposedly communal, grassroots Berkeley establishment. But, yes, the food is tasty."

  • "The service really made the experience stand out. Our server was doing double duty for Saturday brunch running the bar and taking tables, and she balanced it expertly. The food was delicious, although one dish came out overlooked. The poached eggs were done to death, however it was graciously and promptly corrected, and the second try was phenomenal. The brunch cocktails were also wonderful. I am curious to come back for dinner and explore more dishes."

  • "This restaurant is all about stopping and smelling the roses, so to speak. each bite must be savored and enjoyed... We both started with a cocktail individually recommended by our waiter- my wife had the Lion's tale, and I had a great concoction that had Coffee and Mazcal in it - they were both excellent for an an appetizer, we had the Vegan Charcuterie, which was the highlight of the meal. I then had the Local Grains Cooked in Whey, which was very tasty, and my wife has the chicken - was tough enough to send back to the kitchen. The replacement was better, but still not amazing. Overall, we were happy, although not ecstatic (because of the chicken), but would gladly come back..."

  • "Gather provides great food, well prepared, with attentive staff. But, what sets it apart for me is that it has a menu that appeals to carnivores and veggies equally. if you have a veggie diet you still have a wonderful dining experience."

  • "I was happy to find this restaurant through Open Table reviews. Great place for an out-of-town foodie/vegetarian to go. Beautiful plates with shining produce and meats and inventive flavor combinations. The cocktail I got (which was with bourbon and mint) was not anything special, but my friend got one with celery and cardamom which was very good (but small). The vibe is wonderful - good positive neighborhood energy and nice airy decor. Glad I found it!"

  • "Wow. Gather is like a shining beacon of happy, flavorful friendliness welcoming the entire UC Berkeley community on this sunny day in March, 2014. Melanie is the radiantly friendly host, Ryan is nailing perfect asparagus and chili flake pizza and Joe is providing smiling, friendly service. Sorry I cannot tell who made the Chicories salad, Braised mushroom sandwich, Braised beef shank sandwich or hot Portuguese pepper with fried eggs (perfectly cooked, over-medium!!!!!) with bacon on Acme Levain. Out of the park like a Brandon Moss bomb. I simply have to return, when Brian Carroll is able to imbibe a beer with me, as well as the rest of this totally delicious menu. I highly recommend GATHER!"
