Diner Reviews
  • "Great food, great service but a little pricey! Our waiter did an excellent job! The steaks were amazing! Cooked to perfection and tender! Great place for out of town guests or a group dinner!"

  • "We celebrated our1st Anniversary at Gamlin's. We are both Bourbon fans so this place suits our tastes. This was our second time eating here, and both times we have had great food. One day I may have room for dessert, but so far the portions have done me in before I get to the final course! They have definitely given us a great place to go for food and drinks."

  • "Gamlin Whiskey House is a beautiful fine dining resteraunt. I attended on the 4Th of July and I could not have picked a better place. The food is EXCELLENT!!! and the atmosphere is settling but also electric. I especially would like to thank "Julie" our waitress for her beautiful personality and extensive knowledge of every food item on the menu...(thanks for the recommendations Julie). I have decided to make this my regular and only fine dining experience in the C.W.E. and since its right in my neighborhood that makes it even better. If you haven't been to this place your missing a real treat. Great service...Great Food...Great and kind staff. Thnx!!! Gamlin Whiskey House I look forward to seeing you again real soon."

  • "Great outdoor space and selection of alcoholic beverages, but the food was a little too eclectic for a return visit anytime soon. Service was outstanding though."

  • "Dined with six adults and days later we are still talking about how amazing our entrees were."

  • "We had a terrific server. Food was great; however I despise being charged for bread and butter unless I get to take a loaf home. Just a minor annoyance for an otherwise great meal with friends. The restaurant was a little too loud to have normal-level conversation."

  • "Not happy at all with the service. Our waiter was not attentive - I even had to go looking for him once. We had to ask to have out dirty dishes taken away."

  • "I took my wife there over the weekend and we loved it."

  • "Went there for a birthday celebration and had some fun with a long-time friend. Good food and portions."

  • "A casual dining experience and the food was delicious. My wife & I had an appetizer, an entree each and shared a dessert. Our waiter was very helpful with suggestions. We had shrimp & grits for the appetizer - excellent. I had the 10 oz. patio steak and my wife had the 8 0z. Tete de filet. Both were ample sized portions and cooked to perfection. I would recommend to others, however, it is a little pricey. I would go back to try other entrées. The whiskey drinks we tried from the menu were very good too."

  • "Went w/ friends on Saturday night...crab cakes were small but excellent, the Scallop Ceviche was unique w/ excellent flavor...all four entrees were thoroughly enjoyed and the Bourbon/ Whiskey selection was great except they were out of stock on a couple that I wanted...overall a fun and highly recommended experience"

  • "What fun! They have a whiskey sommelier who is not only knowledgable and creative but fun. He made us 3 different versions of Manhattans that were all good in their own ways. The John's Manhattan was excellent and I would recommend trying it if you want to get adventurous. The food was very good. We had the evening's specials: New York strip with blue potatoes and a lovely sauce with shrimp in it. The lamb shank with corn risotto was perfect and the off the menu filet was very good. Save yourself for dessert. The Deep Fried Oreo with ice cream and the Sticky Toffee pudding were sooooo good. We were full after our meal and over the top when we HAD to finish dessert. It was that good. Truly wonderful service. Great evening."

  • "The food and service were outstanding here—we shared a great rib-eye steak—and it's also a learning experience for those not conversant with the whiskeys of the world. You certainly don't need to drink to enjoy this restaurant, but we did, and the server's recommendations were spot on. A great find in the Central West End."

  • "My husband and I love everything about this restaurant. An absolute gem for CWE and St. Louis. The food, drinks, location, and service were all excellent. We have a new favorite spot. Can't wait to go back."

  • "Awesome food and service. Just a bit pricey when you have drinks."

  • "This was our second visit to Gamlin' Whiskey. And this experience was just as good as the first one. We sat outside on an absolutely gorgeous June evening. The CWE was bustling with people and enhanced the outdoor experience. The food was delicious. Our dining companions had the salmon and the steak. Each was done as requested and they both loved their dinners. We each had the seared tuna. Absolutely delicious. The tuna sit so top of a mound of creamy delicious risotto. The tuna was seared to perfection and seasoned with a delicious sauce of soy and other citrus. I don't think you could go wrong with any dish at Gamlin'. We didn't have dessert but the choices looked tempting. The drink selection was very interesting and tasty."

  • "We enjoyed sitting on the patio and they have a nice drink menu. Our waiter was unfriendly and cold. The tuna was good but my steak came out cold and had to be returned. I would come back for drinks but skip the food."

  • "This is one of my favorite little areas in St. Louis and we were so excited to try this place on our anniversary as my husband loves whiskey and we had read such high reviews. The service, drinks, and food were all stellar. We each had a whiskey cocktail and 4 different apps. We left plenty full and I couldn't even pick a favorite all the apps were so good but I highly recommend the fried green beans! I was also thrilled to see my favorite Kim Crawford wine on the menu. Excellent ambience for a date night!"

  • "The entrees were just enough different that it approached unique in style. The portions were large and provided dinner the following evening. The wine was good, but overpriced at $14 for what looked to be less than a 4 ounce pour."

  • "We visited for the first time for lunch to celebrate an office birthday. No one had been to Gamlin before, but I know that I'll be back to try dinner soon! The food was great, our waiter was the best, and the cocktails were wonderful. Add Gamlin to my list of favorites!"

  • "Excellent cocktails. Whiskey flight plenty to share. Food outstanding! Fun!"

  • "We had a reservation for four and although we were about 5 minutes late, we were promptly seated. The menu provided enough variety to please every diner. The drinks and food were wonderful but the service is what made the evening special."

  • "I had the patio steak - incredible! My husband had the seafood pasta and loved his too. We're not whiskey drinkers, but the drink menu is expansive and offers all other types of alcohol. We wrapped things up with desert.. Creme brûlée and a crustless cheesecake. Superb! The portions of everything we had were substantial. My husband is a big eater and hates when I take him to "fru-fru" restaraunts that serves miniature portions. You won't get that at Gamlin's. The amount of food was just right!"

  • "The food was very good and the drink lists was great for bourbon and whiskey drinkers."

  • "Two couples, four different dishes, all great. I had a couple old fashioneds and they were great too. Table space was the only problem."
    Dined on 5/17/2014
  • "we were overall pleased. However I specifically asked for my steak to be very pink in the middle (I usually order medium) it was well done. That was disappointing. Waitress offered to get new steak but I didn't want to wait. "

  • "Upon entering Gamlin Whiskey House on Mom's Day, our group's ladies were greeted by smiles and mimosas! The service was attentive, yet casual, which was perfect. The menu choices include both sharable "For the Table" items and individual options. Our table enjoyed everything.... the omelet, biscuits and gravy, bacon, Eggs Benedict and more. We'll be back again for brunch!"

  • "Not the best sandwiches. The bread was kind of stale and it was just uninspiring."
    Dined on 5/7/2014
  • "Great food, interesting drinks, and big portions. I can usually eat a reasonable amount and probably ate less than half. Lamb dishes are worth giving a shot. Very tasty. Great selection of drinks -- the usual fair of wines and beers, but a broad selection of cocktails and whiskeys. Enjoy!"

  • "So i have tried this restaurant twice now. The first time the service wasn't great (waited almost 45 mins for drinks) and the food was ok but nothing great. I figured i would give it another try since it was new and maybe they were jsut working out the kinks. Unfortunately it was not the case. I had the same experience the 2nd time. The food was just ok and the service was not great."

  • "I tried Gamlin a few times after it opened and was always disappointed in the food. The drinks, the service and the ambiance were stellar. But the food was not as good as what I expected. That has changed! I went for brunch this weekend and was thrilled with my meal. The brunch menu was inventive and had something for everyone. Bottomless mimosas are a nice touch too! The shrimp and grits were a standout! I will definitely be back for dinner soon! "

  • "We loved the food and the service was wonderful! However, we had reservations which to me means an appropriate table for four. Instead we were seated in the last "new" room next to a long table set up for ten. After we ordered our drinks a bachelorette party arrived. The room is not insulated for loud noises and the girls were very loud at first. They eventually quieted and we had a nice dinner. "

  • "Our server was great and the food came out fast with a group of six. The tuna entree and oyster appetizer were excellent. We were disappointed with our dessert so they gave us something different at no charge. The whiskey selection was great, but the wines were a bit overpriced. Fun atmosphere with unique details. Would definitely recommend!"

  • "We dined at Gamlin Whiskey House for Easter Brunch. Our table awaited us upon arrival, and we had our drink orders almost immediately. Our cocktails were delicious! We all enjoyed our bread board appetizer and were pleasantly surprised with samples from sister restaurant, Sub-Zero (yummy)! All of our meals were wonderful! Our server was VERY imformative and SO MUCH FUN! We can't wait to go back!!"

  • "Food--crab sandwich was good, but unremarkable (needed more flavor, it was rather bland). Service--good, but unremarkable. Patio--beautiful day, and patio was perfect for that. "

  • "Of the three of us only I didn't like my food. One other LOVED his. The other liked hers. The whiskey cocktail was delicious. "

  • "I ordered the $30 smoked manhattan and was to receive the whiskey pipe with the purchase but they had run out of the glasses. I expected a discount on the drink or a gesture to say I could stop by at a later date to pick up the glass. Drink was smoked and served in a Knob Creek bottle instead of the whiskey pipe. Food was very good and I will return."

  • "Great location. Good service. Food was yummy. Very appropriate portions, not too big or small. Decent selection for brunch especially if you would like to jazz up your waffles pancakes or French toast. Excellent neighborhood hang out and can even bring kids to brunch. I haven't tried lunch or dinner but I'm guessing its even better. "
