Diner Reviews
  • "One of the three best restaurants in louisiana I've ever been to. If you're on the south shore it's worth a trip across the bridge. If you're on the northshore you have no excuse not to go. Ask for Louis to be your server he is the man. Polite, prompt, full of fantastic recommendations. Ask to sit in the bar area, it's actually significantly more quiet than the dining area. It is a regular occasion for the wife and I."

  • "One of my favorite restaurants in Louisiana- period! Quality and service second to none. Love it."

  • "Upon arrival we ordered coffee while we waited for the rest of our party. The waiter then proceeded to pick up all he wine glasses. I guess if you have coffee you don't need wine(?). We were not asked if we wanted appetizers or bar service. During most of the meal we were ignored by the staff even though they were not busy. They were too busy socializing with each other. We had 4 different waiters. This place is doomed to fail due to this behavior."

  • "As always, the whole dining experience was magnificent. The four of us relaxed with perfect cocktails and then the wonderful dishes started coming. Absolutely perfect in every way. Pat is the best chef on the north shore , for sure."

  • "First time visit for the one of us and will return most definitely! Chad our server was attentive and welcoming, and not snobby or pushy as in some upscale experiences. Crab cakes were a hit along with the unique take on Shrimp and grits. Wife's blue cheese encrusted steak was the reason for her return, and did not disappoint! No espresso, so we passed on dessert. The owner Pete personally thanked us for the visit and invited us to return, you just don't receive that kind of hospitality anymore. 9 out of 10 and don't miss on the Northshore!"

  • "After reading reviews of this restaurant, I expected really great food. When it was time to order our entree, we weren't sure what came with the entrees. Usually this info is on the menu. Most of the restaurants that we dine at give you a salad and side with your entree (or two sides). We discovered that each item is ordered and paid for separately. My husband's steak was delicious and swimming in butter. My fish was just okay and not very tasty. The scallop appetizer came with three scallops that were okay, and the sauce was very good. The potatoes au gratin that we split was just okay. The whilt chocolate bread pudding was very good, but not enough sauce. Our bill with tax, but before tip, was $114. I'm not sure if I would return."

  • "Everything is a la carte here, which is not the case at most restaurants, which makes it a little more pricey. Will definitely go back. Excellent white chocolate bread pudding!!"

  • "Food was good; waiter not the friendliest; restaurant very noisy."

  • "We went to Gallagher's early for my birthday dinner and we could not have been more pleased. We started off with their Turtle Soup which we both loved. I had a Speckled Trout with pieces of Lobster and Crabmeat on top with a wonderful sauce of lemon and butter and my husband had the Redfish which he said was excellent. For a side dish we split a large portion of Potatoes Au Gratin that was delicious. For dessert we split a large White Chocolate Bread Pudding which could not have been better. To me this restaurant is as good or better than most restaurants in New Orleans!"

  • "Service was excellent, food was not as good as expected. We were told it was best on northshore, but we feel it was just average. Extremely noisy before 9 pm especially in back room."

  • "My filet was cooked to perfection but my guests rib eye was over cooked and way overseasoned with black pepper. The hostess did ask us how everything was and my guest told her and was offered something else but declined since our party was more than halfway through our meal. We will go back but ask that no seasoning be put on the steaks."

  • "Our group of 6 had a lovely lunch at Gallagher's. Everyone was happy with their food and the service, as always, was outstanding. We'll keep coming back."

  • "My fiancé and I visit Gallaghers at least twice a month and the dinner on Valentines Day did not disappoint. We arrived for our 9:00 PM reservation about 20 minutes early as usual and had our normal cocktail at the bar while waiting for our table. The bar was very crowded however we got our drinks quickly as usual. As always the best steak in Louisiana and our appetizers were great as usual. I love the consistency, keep up the great work Pat."

  • "My wife finds fault with every restaurant for something. I love her but that is her way. I have NEVER seen her enjoy a dining experience more. We went on the busiest night of the year, Valentines. The service blows the New Orleans big names out of the water. The staff work as a team of individual thinkers and yet they are not intrusive. And the food was some of the best we have ever had anywhere. That says a lot having grown up in New Orleans."

  • "We walked in and set down instantly. The service was great. They stayed on top of clearing plates and refilling drinks. We asked for food recommendations and they were spot on. The stuffed chicken was out of this world."

  • "Had valentines dinner there and had a wonderful experience. I am a regular there and thought that the big night of vsday was handled well. The moved tables quickly but did not rush us. Love the sweet potatoe casserole! Highly recommend!"

  • "I took my wife and eleven-year old granddaughter out for a Valentine's dinner on the evening before Valentine's Day. There was no special menu, which was fine. The normal menu, as well as the decor and atmosphere, was perfect for a special occasion and was the reason I selected this restaurant. My wife's steak and my lamb and quail mixed grill were cooked to near perfection. The wait staff was attentive. We had a very enjoyable evening and look forward to our next visit."

  • "This restaurant does not bowl you over for the price. The seafood gumbo is excellent however it was very average afterwards. The trout has strong fishy taste, the creamed spinach was not good. I think when you pay Commanders Palace prices one should expect that same kind of quality and taste. In sum: pretty average ambiance and food experience at a very high price."

  • "The crab crates were lucious with succulent lump meat barely held together with a light touch of breaking,,,perfect! Then the bone-on fillet (never had that) was oh so tender, almost fork tender!!!"

  • "Attentive service and the steak was great. Oyster appetizer was a home grown masterpiece. Wife is a key lime pie connoisseur and she was impressed. Couldn't have asked for a better experience for a home town gem. Thanks."

  • "We normally order steak when we dine here. This night we all ordered fish. I got the lemon fish, someone else the trout, and another person ordered the pompano. The only one that was not that great was the lemon fish. It was too strong. I have had lemon fish at another restaurant and it did not taste as fishy as this did. Everyone else's dishes were great. The sides were very good as always. We are partial to the creamed spinach which is not too creamy. The merliton casserole could have been more hot. I forgot to mention the crab cake appetizer which was very good. Service was wonderful and has always been to a high standard every time we have dined there. All in all, we highly recommend. I just prefer the steaks."

  • "Extraordinary!!! Great meal, wonderful service, we will be back. This was our first time at Gallagher's and we chose to share the experience with our kids who were in for the holidays. Everyone had an experience that we will talk about for many times to come."

  • "We all know the steaks are wonderful but the fish was excellent as well. The grilled tuna steak was perfect. Additionally the calamari was superb and plentiful. As for desert, the key lime pie was a great finish to the meal. We will be back!"

  • "Ambience was nice in back room. I had the quail, which tasted great, but the portion was small. My wife had broiled shrimp, which had six or seven pieces (small portion for the price), but the extremely hot plate must have kept cooking the shrimp to the point that they were overdone by the time they were eaten. The sweet potatoes (family portion), however, were outstanding! Also, the key lime pie with macadamia nut crust was also great! Overall, we will probably not return since we feel Covington has other restaurants with better value for the money."

  • "Our server was Becky. She is always attentive. We lacked for nothing. Just one note. When your steK gets to your table do not lean over and sniff the aroma as it comes at over 600 degrees and it may splatter. This place is great"

  • "A great dinner that started with the first inhale of savory aroma at the door, a mix of browned butter and various food Dwight. Our occasion was a going away dinner for a friend and the place was perfect for this gathering. The atmosphere was relaxin and comfortable; the service was attentive and staff welcoming. The chef/owner made a personal stop at the table to check on our experience. The bread pudding is not to be missed."
