A word from Fresh Salt
Our tables overlook the waters of the Connecticut River where the fresh river meets the salt of the sound. It’s a treasured and historic spot. In nature the most vibrant life happens where systems meet. These places are rich in life, and our restaurant reflects that lively diversity. We have a raw bar, a seasonally varied menu, and offer as much as we can from the farms, brewers, cheese makes and other food enterprises that are springing up around our region.

Fresh Salt delivers a dining experience that’s comfortable and relaxed. Our staff is here to be of service to you, our kitchen stands ready with fresh ingredients, a deep wine cellar and carefully crafted fusions of foods and beverages that bring tastes together in delicious and new ways.

We have tables by the fire, at the bar, and in season offer seating outdoors on the Fresh Salt Terrace.

  • "Servers are pleasant but not guided, poor service on patio. Chowder cold with canned claims. Cottage chips heavy and fried a day ago. Tuna too smokey, overwhelmed dish, filet mignon cooked fine but lacked seasoning, flan no cheese flavor poor texture. Breakfast sandwich eggs overcooked, vegetable hash brought a pound of cubed potatoes with little veg, very unattractive plate. Chef needs guidance, young chefs usually do."

  • "I think it's the best place where I have ever been for the past 5 years ( and I tried a lot of different restaurants in different cities and states). The view is magnificent, I bet during the summer it's even more gorgeous. The decor is beautiful too.very unique and romantic atmosphere. The food is excellent. We had kale salad, calamari with peanuts ( so delicious) as appetizers. Then we ordered tuna and swordfish- unbelievably tasty. And the portions are good size. The service was great too!!! We loved this place and definitely come back."

  • "Had a wonderful dinner at Fresh Salt. Our waitress was superb, very helpful with the wine list and dessert selection. Our swordfish and filet were perfectly cooked. Unfortunately, we had a late reservation and did not take in the sights which I imagine are beautiful. We will recommend this restaurant to family and friends."

  • "Fresh Salt has transformed the Saybrook Point Inn to the place to go for a great meal in the Old Saybrook . For a seafood place, even the beef dishes were excellent. The ambiance and location are great and I'm sure summertime will be beautiful there. Worth the trip to the shoreline."

  • "We ordered the chateaubriand special (Valentines Day) and it was a major disappointment! The meat was mediocre and served with a burnt popover, TERRIBLE broccoli rob and a lousy potato. Actually it was similar to food served in a diner.. at best. The restaurant didn't even have table cloths and the hostess/manager was no where to be found. On top of it all the noise from a wedding overtook any ambience the restaurant could have had. Bad job Salt!"

  • "My wife and I had the same entree: Steamed Maine Lobster with Meyer Lemon Fettuccine, Carrot, Snow Peas, Ginger, Parmigiano Reggiano, Parma. For appetizers, my wife had the Salad of Baby Lettuces; I had the New England Clam Chowder My wife enjoyed both her meals very much (8.5 out of 10). I not so much (6.5). I thought the lobster was not as sweet, succulent and chewy as Maine lobsters I've had else where. Instead had a slightly mealy texture and ho-hum taste. The sauce was soupy, heavy, too salty and ladled too thickly over the noodles. The Chowder was also heavy and salty. I did finish both dishes but they did not sit well during the night. In the past the service has been mediocre to downright awful but his time it was excellent."

  • "Fabulous spot for brunch. We went with friends to take a break from this snowy winter, and we were not disappointed. The name of the restaurant has changed, but not the quality. The buffet was complete from A to Z; even had a raw bar! Crepes, omelets, Belgian Waffles, and that's just the start! The buffet stations were always filled and fresh. Unusual salads (Panzanella and yellow beet with fennel) which were delish. The dessert bar was exquisite...even had gluten free choices. We especially liked that the pieces were small so we could enjoy more variety guilt free! A great meal for a very good price. We will return, for sure."

  • "We had dinner and breakfast the next day at Fresh Salt. Dinner was a great experience. Our waiter was attentive but was not overbearing at all. The food was excellent. We ordered the veal oscar and the pork chop. I have never ordered a pork chop at a restaurant before, but the way it was prepared sounded interesting, and I was not disappointed! It was excellent. My date enjoyed the veal oscar too. The wine list was not very extensive, but was reasonably priced. After dinner we ordered the cheese platter which we enjoyed with some port. We really enjoyed the entire experience, and we will definitely be back when the weather is warmer and the view will be better. Breakfast the next day was also excellent!"

  • "Our first time having Brunch at Fresh Salt, we met friends from the east side of the CT river. There was a large variety of items including a raw bar, omelet station, crepe station, pasta station, carving station, entrees, fruit and salads. Also, a huge selection of desserts, nicely sized so that a sampling could be tried. As it is a bit pricey, plan a leisurely brunch to take advantage of all the options. The atmosphere is relaxed and the service was very prompt, clearing away dishes and making sure our beverages were full. The only downside was, If you are not in the mood for a buffet, there was no other option on Sunday."

  • "We go to this restaurant on occasion. It has recently been updated and changed it's name. The menu provides a nice variety of selections and the wine list offers a variety of reasonably priced selections. The spicy tuna sushi appetizer is outstanding. The black Angus filet could literally be cut with a fork and was perfectly prepared. Service is friendly and knows the menu and wine list. Definitely worth the trip."

  • "We've been going hear for years for certain special occasions. Recent trip was on a. Thursday night which happened to be ladies night. If we had know we would have chosen a different place, but for those there who knew it, it appeared to be just what they expected. Live singer (very excellent I may add) and a bit bustle-y. We wanted a calmer,quieter atmosphere. The food was great as usual, although the service was slow and one plate was cool and sent back for more heat. This chef is top notch so we're not Not writing them off yet."

  • "Our family of 6 enjoyed dinner at this lovely retaurant located right on the water. We had a 5 year old and a 2 year old with us. The kids meals were excellent. They were enchanted with the fresh water fish tank and the water fountain outside the window. There was also a fire pit which we did not avail ourselves of, due to the extreme cold. Our entrees were quite good. The menu had a nice variety of choices. It was a very relaxing atmosphere, yet managed to be sophisticated at the same time. We will go back."

  • "Nicely received by hostess, lovely atmosphere, ordered drinks from an unfriendly bartender, another bartender stepped up, much better, completed the drink order that the other one didn't do. We were seated on time, luckily we had drinks because NO ONE checked on us after we were seated for at least 15 minutes, waitress was distracted all night, we ordered a lot of raw bar, our empty raw bar dishes sat in front of us for a long time until someone in our party asked them to take them away! Although the oysters, clams & shrimp were excellent. We ordered wine, drinks, salad, entrees and dessert and the service never got better, but we deserved better. Most of our entrees were delicious."

  • "This was a special birthday dinner for a friend. We arrive a little early and sat in the lounge to enjoy a drink and the beautiful view while there was still daylight. We then moved into the dining room with a wonderful view and near the fireplace. The drinks were creative and diverse, the food was super fresh and well prepared. The ambiance was terrific. All and all it was an amazing evening and dinner. We will definitely be back!!"

  • "We stayed at the Saybrook Point Inn for five days and planned to eat at their restaurant, Fresh Salt, a couple of nights. The food, service, and ambiance was so good that we ate there every night. The chef's presentations were eye catching and the entree selections we're were nicely varied and prepared exactly as requested. Their selections were somewhat pricey, but reasonable for the quality and dining experience received. We will definitely be coming back."

The broth of my Cioppino was a little flat. The crispy calamari was cooked perfectly, but the"spicy" marinara sauce which accompanied the dish was not spicy at all. The salads were delicious and fresh. The desserts delicious."

  • "We celebrated an 80th birthday, a 7 year wedding anniversary, and a 20 year anniversary all in one night. the bday celebration was a surprise and the staff at fresh salt helped us pull it off without a hitch. The staff bent over backwards to make our evening perfect! We will recommend Fresh Salt to everyone!"
