Diner Reviews
  • "I am such a fan of Fresca (all their locations!)! This restaurant has become one of my go-to places to celebrate special occasions and I am never disappointed. From the ambience, service and to the food--Fresca does a great job. The sangria is a perfect pairing with almost any dish and all the dishes I've ordered are perfection. Love this place!"

  • "We always eat here so we are surprised when the service is slow. No one dame to our table to take our drink order for ten minutes. We still were not sure who our waiter was. Food took a long time."

  • "We enjoyed a light lunch at Fresca. The restaurant wasn't busy around the noon hour, but service was still inattentive. Food was very good including ceviche, salads and a few appetizers. Nice if you're in the neighborhood, wouldn't go out of my way to eat there."

  • "The Ceviche was excellent. We had fish and seafood. Our plates were tasty and the foods were fresh. I recommend thus restaurant for a nice dinner with friends."

  • "our last experience was great but this time we ran into bad service and some decent food. our server seemed bothered which is always a great feeling to have. my gf had a salad and soup that were definitely tasty but my paella was very bland."

  • "I recently moved to the area, and was getting frustrated by how many times I was disappointed with the restaurants here. Fresca is the first restaurant where I can say is really good food!"

  • "We come to SF about once a year and make reservations with Fresca as soon as we book our tickets. Great food. We loved Ceviche, risotto. Everything we have tried has been great so far."

  • "The food was actually quite good but the service and noise level were terrible. I will not be returning."

  • "The food was excellent- known for Cervich . The service was good though we felt rushed. The waiter while attentive constantly wanted to take our plates away and move on. The biggest problem was the noise level. This is my second time at this restaurant and this time it was mid-week and it was impossible to carry on a conversation. Though the food is wonderful, I don't enjoy listening to others screaming to make themselves heard nor do I enjoy struggling to hear across the table for two."

  • "They were out of the bottle of wine we ordered and then the chicken. While we were able to sit and enjoy a nice long meal, the service was pretty poor as the server rarely came around every 20 minutes to ask for our drink and food orders. Great food! But the super loud atmosphere and okay service made for a so-so meal."

  • "Fresca used to be our favorite Peruvian ceviche place in the city. Its quality of food seems to have really gone down in the last six months. The plantain chips were tasteless (very surprising). The ceviche was bland (unlike what we had in the past at Fresca). Very surprising indeed."

  • "Some of the best seafood I've had in the city, especially the salmon!"

  • "Fresca never seems to amaze me with their impeccable flavors and beautiful presentation. Due to the growing popularity over the years, it has become a favorite of many, which in turn creates a rather loud environment. If you are looking for a place to be able to talk/hear easily, I would try Fresca for lunch which is a more serene scene."

  • "The ambiance was nice and we ordered first a beet salad that was just two beets. Ceviche was great, but salmon sauce was a bit bland. The best thing was the sweet plantains. All in all, it wasn't terrible, until the waitress seemed to push us out and even came over when I still was finishing my wine to say another party had arrived for our table and we had to leave. Service was not pleasant and we will not be going back."

  • "Our waiter was not friendly at all and it felt like he was rushing us through our meal."

  • "I've been to this place many times and I usually have good food and decent service, but this time the service was disappointing. My companion and I were seated at the very back of an empty restaurant (we had OpenTable reservations) and the service was pretty non-attentive. Our server was polite, but really didn't seem interested in providing us with a great experience. Also, without any explanation, we had a different server half way through the meal. I don't expect fantastic service every time I go to a fairly casual restaurant, but I do expect to feel like I'm welcomed and that, as a guest, I'm having a nice experience and I really didn't get that from my last trip here."

  • "I love that there are five ceviche dishes to choose from, we chose the sampler of three, and it was great! I would love to try them all. My entree, the sea bass, was mostly polenta with a small piece of fish, not bad, but just okay. Sangria seems to be a "go to" drink here, and we enjoyed a carafe. All in all, a little pricey for what we ordered."
    Dined on 2/21/2014
  • "While the food was good, the service was not. We had issues with our order and had to repeatedly flag down someone to get service. I have heard that the service at dinner is better."

  • "I've been going to Fresca's since 1998 and whenever a friend or family member visits me, I suggest Peruvian food and say "let's go to Fresca's!""

  • "Enjoyed the dorade dish flakey with perfect spices my wife had the sea bass ...wonderful crevice was abit on the salty side No elbow room on the couples table , definitely not the spot for a romantic eve"

  • "Made a last minute trip to San Francisco and on whim picked this place. Wow! We started with the Ceviche Sampler. For dinner, I had the Paella Valenciana and my girlfriend had the tenderloin strips. I will keep this short and simple. The food was absolutely amazing. Both of us left stuffed and literally saying, "This is quite possibly the best meal we have ever had together". The restaurant was alive with the constant buzz of the other patrons. The only complaint I could muster, is that the seating was extremely close. Every time someone passed behind me, my chair was kicked. Although annoying, the taste of the food quickly surpassed the occasional kick. We highly recommend this restaurant and will be back. Thank you for an amazing meal!"

  • "Took my mom here when she was visiting and we had an amazing experience. The ceviche, empanadas, and muscles were amazing. We were good after those 3 apps, but had the lava cake and tres leche for dessert, which were amazing."

  • "I don't know if they raised prices or not, but our last visit to Fresca (On Fillmore St.) seemed way overpriced. The food was tasty but I didn't expect to have paid approx. $30 per person for the amount of food we got (2 mains, 2 starters, 1 sangrilla). For these prices you can find better. For Peruvian Limon on S. Van Ness stays my favorite."

  • "The empanadas and scallop dish were excellent. The paella was so so. Not very flavorful."

  • "Amazing food, adequate service. Get the lomo saltado."

  • "Has been a while since I dined at Fresca. It was consistent as I recall with an superb menu. Really good wines and better food. The food is done really well with just the right garnish and sauces. I had pork which was grilled just right and great rum fruit glaze. Very happy."

  • "Had a great experience at Fresca. Ordered the ceviche with plantation chips, and then the lamb - which was YUMMY! We also drank some tasty sangria. This restaurant is a great choice for a group, as it has a lot of space - but you still should make a reservation before coming!"

  • "Recommend the empanadas and ceviche. The staff were extremely friendly and the ambience was perfect for a date!"

  • "Good food, table was ready on time - the menu is simple but all the choices are great. We had a wonderful time there, recommend it unreservedly."

  • "We had eaten here many times before and were usually pleased with our meal but this meal was disappointing. One friend ordered a cerviche that the waiter recommended and it was smothered in soy sauce. My husband had the chicken and he felt it was dry and not good. I was satisfied with my meal, however. I had a simple, traditional fish cerviche which was good and then had sea bass on spinach all over a rice cake. The fish was done perfectly-not overcooked and I have no complaints, but our guests were not as satisfied as I was. In addition, the restaurant is far too noisy."

  • "The steak was tender, Peruvian dishes listed, but the whole experience is a throwback to the 90's before "authenticity" really became a "thing." A neighborhood restaurant that happens to serve Lomo instead of lasagna, it's comfort food, Peruvian style, with no flair, no local/seasonal/authentic/fusion anything. Nothing bad - just not anything special."

  • "I went to the Fillmore location with my family over the holidays. We had a reservation for 7 people, so I had to call instead of booking online. Upon calling they were friendly and were happy to accommodate our party. The food was absolutely fantastic! Everyone enjoyed their meals and we all ordered different entres. Absolutely recommend starting with one of the ceviches! We asked for recommendations for the most "authentic" Peruvian meals, and we were not disappointed. Would definitely recommend Fresca!"

  • "This is a Restaraunt you must check out. Food was outstanding. Tables are packed in there, but that is understandable as this place is very popular. Make a reservation. Food is superb."

  • "We have eaten here several times and although the food was as good as ever, the service and atmosphere were not up to our expectations. We had reservations and watched/waited as a "walk-in" couple got a nice table along an interior wall and we were seated at a cramped table next to the door. The next disappointment came with the wine list. If we understood correctly, there were only 2 whites and 3 reds available Saturday night. We were told all the other choices were "out." Food came out quickly and beautifully presented, but we had to flag down the wait staff for refills of water."

  • "Had a good experience, nothing out of the ordinary. I was a expecting a larger mixed drink menu - didn't even have pisco sours. Food was good, had a ceviche trio and lamb chops, both tasted good."
    Dined on 11/30/2013
  • "Have dined here several times over the years. Food is always very good. Service tonight was very sketchy -- way too long between courses and a little too long to take our order. Maybe it was just a off night -- will certainly go back."
    Dined on 11/27/2013
  • "Something has gone wrong here. The Ceviche was good, but in smaller portions! The Paella was nothing like it had been in the past. It's like the restaurant has been sold and they are trying to get by with a much cheaper menu. I took friends here after raving about the food and was embarrassed."

  • "Fresca is tucked in between Fillmore shops and can almost be missed…but you won't want to miss the phenomenal service, delicious menu and wonderful atmosphere! As soon as you walk in, you're greeted with a welcoming smile by the hostess. As you sit at your table you quickly realize that the friendliness doesn't stop there. The staff seem to truly care about your experience and put in the extra effort to make you feel welcome. The atmosphere is slightly different during lunch and dinner. Lunch is classy and professional, where dinner has a more romantic feel to it. However, both are perfect for their specific meal time. They are popular for dinner, so make sure to make reservations. You won't want to miss an opportunity to enjoy a meal here!"
