A word from Flavor
We believe that reasonably priced "American Comfort Food" is a rapidly disappearing culinary cuisine in the Bay Area. We decided that we would not let that vanish.
Providing a fine balance of basic tasty foods and exquisite culinary delights where comfort and creativity collide, we proudly present El Granada with our latest venture- Flavor.
What is California Comfort Food? Simply put, it is an attempt to take some of the classic and not so classic comfort dishes and have our wonderful chefs add some sort of twist to them. We will always try to provide the freshest ingredients and attempt to use local and organic ingredients when possible.

  • "This restaurant is a favorite of a lot of people. Our first time there as we have our favorites in the area. A very big disappointment. I view this as a quantity not quality type of restaurant. The food is very basic and a lot of it , but really not very good. Salad lacked taste but was huge, Pork Chop was huge, but not tasty and not at all tender. To each his own, but as for us, we pass! I like to give restaurants more than one try just to be fair, but we will not be returning."

  • "Three of us went there for lunch and had a nice time. The views from the upper level (only level open for lunch) are nice harbor views. We had various burgers and BBQ pork sandwiches with fries and all were freshly made and hot and tasty. Our server was a little off, friendly, just not there when we needed her every time, and we saw her eating her food once while we waiting for her, but she was OK. I will be back for dinner."

  • "The restaurant ambiance is very nice, the location great, the food always fresh and tasty. The crabcakes are excellent. But it is always the people who work at the restaurant that we go back for: it is like going to a friend's place for dinner. You can tell they are happy to work there, they will leave you alone if you want a quiet meal with good service, or they will interact with you in a friendly way. Either way, the service is excellent."

  • "We live in HMB and enjoy having regular spots; we've been to Flavor 4 or 5 times in the past 3 weeks hoping it would become one. We went with guests last week and, after all the hype, they too left their plates half uneaten. The service has been consistently bad, 2 nights ago it reached an all time low. Mix that with food, which was inedible (literally, the plate was returned once to be recooked, when it came back I was unable to eat even one bite) we have to cross it off our list. It's unfortunate as the location is pleasant, the views are fun and the potential is there. We've gone to Flavor frequently enough to realize that it's not the place for us. Though it seems so close, it misses the mark by a full plate of cold table bread!"

  • "Lovely restaurant, nice view of the harbor, great service, delicious brunch. We enjoyed two types of eggs Benedict, one with excellent crab cakes and the other veggie (with mushroom and English pea patties instead of English muffin), plus really good fried zucchini chips. I felt it was a little bit pricy for brunch, but enjoyed the setting and the food very much. Will go back again."

  • "If you are looking for typical food with a great view, look no further. Not a lot of organic, local choices on the menu. The fish is supposed to be local and wild, which it probably is, but the chicken was clearly your basic hormone fed frankenchicken and the prawns were farmed. The salad special appeared to use heirloom tomatoes which was nice."

  • "I have been to the original Flavor, & liked it- Going to the new location with friends that have not been before was even better. The view of the harbor was an added treat, our waiter was terrific & the food was phenomenal. My friends loved it & will definitely go back with their significant others as will I. Having a full bar & not just wine & beer was a plus as well."

  • "Great cocktails, high-quality, deceptively simple and not snobby food, great view, very pleasant and friendly service. Unfortunately, they do not have the timing down well and entrees came out before we were finished with appetizers and they didn't even acknowledge that this was a problem; they just tried to move dishes around on the table so they could put down our main courses. Places with good locations typically rest on that alone, but Flavor does not settle for that--thank goodness!"

  • "One of our entrees was wrong then arrived much later then expected before I could eat with my family. My son's favorite dish he had ordered when he was once there with friends looked disappointing. The half chicken appeared dry. Mash potatoes on both our plates were TOO MUCH garlic; and I love garlic. I like the interior but not certain I will return with unless my kid wants to come back. Both my husband and I would rate it not too good."

  • "The service at Flavor seems to be slowing down, from the time you order till the time you get your food seems to be getting longer and longer. The refills of drinks, whether it's water, ice tea or soft drink requires one of us to have to flag someone down to get our refills. Overall I think there is a lot of room for improvement with the service. PS We are loyal Flavor customers that began at their old location and we'd like them to succeed. We have introduced others to this restaurant so we hope that they can make the changes necessary to give everyone a stellar dining experience."

  • "We had a wonderful time dining at Flavor which was not a first. This was the first time that we were able to order off of the brunch menu which was a pleasant surprise. Most of us ordered brunch items which included eggs benedict, crab benedict, waffles. The crab benedict looked awesome. The regular benedict was on a thick biscuit with large thick cuts of ham. The eggs were slightly overdone but that did not ruin the meal for me. I heard that the burger was good as usual. I like how you can order certain dishes with add ons like all of the add ons for mac and cheese as well as the burgers. The service was great! Love the new location with the beautiful harbor view."

  • "A few months ago our favorite local go-to spot moved to bigger, fancier digs across Highway One. We feared it would no longer be the cozy, welcoming source of consistently solid, locally-sourced food we had come to expect. But no, Francisco and Devin have done the near-impossible: growth without corruption. Their wonderful service and food ethic carries on in upscaled yet comfy surroundings. Expanded hours, expanded menu. Pesto still amazing, new Green Goddess rules! My husband loved the chili from the new bar menu. And the fries and homemade ketchup, yes still the same! But what I am most impressed with after the move and expansion is the staff: all of the newbies are just as warm and helpful as the stellar veteran wait staff."

  • "We arrived a little early for our reservation. No waiting, our table was ready, servers ready and friendly. The food was excellent, fresh, hot, tasty and plenty of it...portions are huge. The only glitch was with my daughter's order of Chicken Parmesan. She asked for no marinara sauce due to a tomato intolerance. The dish arrived with marinara sauce and of course had to be sent back. The correct order came back within 5-6 minutes and the server was very apologetic and caring about the mistake. The chocolate mousse cake with Turkish coffee ice cream was delish and enough for four of us to share."

  • "A+ for the upscale comfort food and service upstairs and wonderful view of the harbor. Lower Level is a Bar Lounge. Nice list of appetizers and upscale bar food. The lounge at Flavor has one of the most extensive beer lists in San Mateo County. I actually cried when I saw the list of beers they listed: Belgians, Pilsners, Lagers, Pale Ales, IPA's...they are all here at flavor It is impressive the care and detail that was made to produce this selection of drinks. The lounge is clean and lively with TV's and your mix of traditional table top bar tables and also cool leather lounge sofas and chairs and a nice outside area with wonderful welcoming outdoor patio and fire pits. I will bus tables for a Sin Nobre and sliders anytime :)"

  • "This restaurant is in a very convenient location for tourists. The hamburger we ordered was surprisingly bland. Thebbest thing on thebplate werebthe zucchini chips. We also had the chicken pot pie. Better flavor but still not worth the price. Our service was very slow but the food arrived in good time. We both had the feeling we were in a dressed up Chili's. If it were convenient, I would try it again, but I would not seek out this restaurant."

  • "They moved from across the street to a two story building. Food is great, wine was great, service was a little slow - several big parties in the room. I think they're working out the logistics. The food made the wait worthwhile. Braised pork chop w/cauliflower-zucchini gratin was great, so was filet mignon w/fresh carrots, shiitake mushrooms. Coffee was excellent too."

  • "7:30Friday, place was busy but not full. Table was ready when we arrived. Initial service was good. But once we had our entree, we were just abandoned. Someone came by and offered us more bread, 20 minutes after we'd finished the entree. We had been wanting dessert and coffee, but we'd already been there for 90 minutes. So I asked for the check. He wandered off, came back, said "she'll be right over." 10 minutes later, our waitress came by and asked how we were enjoying our food. Did you notice the empty plates? Place was too noisy for conversation, you have to shout. We were just waiting... I had halibut and fries. Way too much "flavor" in the batter and on the fries. I'd like to taste the halibut, it's delicate. Didn't finish."
