  • "The Five Sails Restaurant is an elegant place to bring friends and colleagues for a special occasion. The combination of exquisite cuisine and scenic view make it a great choice. It is also one of the few places in town with a little elbow room and where you're able to hear the conversation of your dinner mates. Love going to the Five Sails!"

  • "Every time we come here has been a delight. Not only the food was great, but the service too. Polite and caring staff paired with great food made our evening more special. The attentiveness of the staff was much appreciated. Food here is and always been good with a menu that has local ingredients but fresh product. Menu is also unique enough that you couldn't eat it elsewhere, at least not many other places. Wine list has great options for pairing with meal. Five sails for 5 stars. 5 stars for 5 sails Great experience, food and service."

  • "My one month with my beautiful girlfriend was coming up so I decided to look for restaurants in downtown. At first, people had recommended me to Cloud 9. As I read reviews, I was like okay but I kept searching until I read about Five Sails. The food looked amazing, and the ambience was very nice and the scenic view was amazing. The service was amazing, and they had easily substituted sauces as I have not liked wasabi. There came a few appetizers ( apparently it was a mini treat ). It was a deep fried salmon roll in some sauce, with rosemary marshmellow and soup. Then came the appetizers, it was amazing. The main course had finally appeared and it was delicious! Dessert was amazing and I would like to come back again."

  • "This is our first time back to the Five Sails in about 20 years and it's just as special a place as we recall it being then. We had the pheasant (tastes like turkey, but even better) and the Catch of the Day. Portions are not large (or cheap) but the quality is incredible. Great service and an outstanding view on a clear evening. Definitely recommended if you are looking for a memorable place to celebrate a special occasion."

  • "We got window seated as requested. But for such a nice restaurant, I'm sir pirates that they have to place our table so close to the next. Each time the server serve the next table, he bumped my seat and I couldn't move chair any closer. We order the steak tartar. The brioche that goes with it is amazing. My husband had the roasted lamb and I had the duck. Both dishes are very tasty and cooked to perfection. The foie gras with my duck is excellent. We had soufflé for dessert. The texture is more like soufflé cake. A bit more stiff than a soufflé. But we love it."

  • "The presentation was beautiful with the taste to match. Although you're spending a lot to go to this restaurant, the food is absolutely worth it. We will return (as often as we can afford)."

  • "The wait staff were helpful by suggesting menu items after asking questions on preferences and likes and dislikes. The wait staff made sure to wait for a pause in the table conversation before interrupting or asking if there was anything we needed. The meal was not rushed and the wait staff allowed us to linger at our table without feeling any pressure to leave. Other staff were equally attentive and respectful. The food was well presented, hot and done to perfection. I would highly recommend this restaurant and intend to return in the near future."

  • "There was a special last Friday - Veal chop - it was simply superb!! Excellent ambiance, gourmet food, outstanding service - a one-stop venue with all these qualities, a "right" choice and a Best Choice for diners !!!"

  • "We don't do fine dining very often, but we can honestly say Five Sails was one of the best we've ever had. We're both foodies, and my partner's parents were both chefs, so we know a quality dining experience when we see one. Everything we had was absolutely delicious. He had the lobster and I had the sablefish, and we had wine, appetizers and dessert--everything was amazing! It's fine dining, so you can expect to pay a little more, but it was worth every penny! We would definitely come back for special occasions."

  • "Five Sails has the food and service that matches the spectacular views! We had the chef's pre fixe dinner with the wine pairings. Delicious on all levels. The waiters were very attentive and the overall meal was excellent."

  • "Opted for a la carte though prix fixe menu looked inviting. Completely satisfied with portion, presentation and taste of the various seafood appetizers and entrees my wife and I ordered. Nice selection of wines though some mark-ups seemed a bit extreme. Only real annoyance was with regard to the seating - we arrived on-time for a late reservation as we had been staying in the hotel. Though we were seated right away at one of their inner tables, was subsequently bothered by not having been given the option when we arrived to wait a few minutes until at least a couple of tables by the windows (which offer the best of spectacular views) became available."

  • "Food, service and atmosphere are always excellent. There are reasons to return in my forth times in five years. Me and my wife lived in San Francsico, California. We have to visit Five Sails every time we visited Vancouver. The steak that I have this last time was tender, tasty and close to perfection. Not to mention the foie gras that I have the first time I visited was something to die for. The service is always excellent, attenative and courteous. We always got seating by the harbour view windows and the view to Stanley Park and Vancouver North Side (I believed) is something to have while dinning. Good for first date, anniversary and special occasion."

  • "Five Sails consistently puts out some of the best food in Vancouver, and every dish they serve is delectable. I have never been disappointed by either their food or their service. In particular, their foie gras is amazing and they always have a fine selection of wines to pair with the food. The price is reasonable given the quality of the meal. This is a fantastic restaurant that is always on the top of my list when anyone asks me for a recommendation."

  • "It was all that I wished it to be and more. The service was excellent from the front door to our table. We were an hour early and they made us feel welcomed and gave us comfortable sofas to sit in while we waited. The menu was very tempting from the appies to the entree's. The servers were polite and professional. My date and I were served at the same time. This is the best restaurant in downtown Vancouver that I have been to. Way to go Five Sails."

  • "It has been a while since i've had such a treat. I've tried many different restaurants in and outside of Vancouver over the past ten years, and Five Sails has become one of my favorites in the Tri-City area. Without a doubt, i will definitely be going back real soon."

  • "We went there on the Valentines Day,and is was very romantic , I love the scenic view they have. And tables are not crowded as well. Just the need from the appetizer is a little bit hard and the fish is kind of notmal but that's all. The lamb was great, I love they put roses on the table. And one last thing... Maybe I think this price is too expansive for all of these."

  • "We recently dined at the five sails and found the whole evening failed to meet our expectations. The location is nice, the restaurant is cosy without feeling small. The food was skilfully prepared but lacked the quality we were expecting and the service was poor. We were filling our own glasses and asked for desert wine lists that never appeared. It was our least favourite meal of our trip!!. We would not return."

  • "The service was second to none. Servers were very personable and professional. Very good seating arrangement which gives you the view of the city. Food was great. I would recommend this restaurant to my friends."

  • "The food was great! We were carefully attended to by staff, the atmosphere was relaxing, the view impressive. We would definitely recommend Five Sails."

  • "the food was amazing! Service was alright. We did not like the fact that a 2 year old needed to pay for a full dine out price. This is suppose to be a semi-family friendly restaurant? How do you expect a 2 year old to eat a full 3 course meal? But, it would still be a restaurant to recommend friends and family. I've been there several times during non-dine out vancouver season and the food has always been consistently good."

  • "I went to five sails for my last dine out of 2014, and it was the best restaurant by far this year. However, with that being said, I've been to five sails before and I felt that the service is be better on a non-dine out occasion. Although the food and service was good I was really upset with a particular scene. A waiter had dropped a wine glass onto carpet but loud enough for me to hear from where I was sitting, she didn't pick it up and walked away. A male server seemed to have noticed but also walked away ignoring the broken wine glass. He then returned to the scene and finally picked up the top half of the broken wine glass. He did not try to find the other missing piece, and it shocks me for a high end restaurant to be so neglectful."

  • "We have dined out six restaurants during DOV.Five sails was the best .My hubby and I really enjoyed our three courses dinner.we definitely come back again ."

  • "- Great food. Complementary beef broth to begin and chocolate at the end. - Waiter can certainly use more smiles - NOT kids friendly. "[During Dine Out] our current a la carte menu & tasting menu will be unavailable in addition to our children's menu options. Due to high demand and limited space we welcome your children ( age appropriate) for our adult, fine dining environment with our Dine Out Menu for 2014 which is priced and charged per individual seated guest." - UNCONVENTIONAL. Credit card reservation required and penalty for no show/late cancellation. This is probably the only restaurant in Vancouver to have such policiy. Also, 18% gratuity added to parties of 6 or more, as opposed to industry's norm of 7 or more."

  • "Tasting was very good, service was actually good as well. But when I asked for beverage menu, another server just told me something like “we got everything generally you want” and without showing me the menu and just left…."

  • "Delicious! A must try! Melt in your mouth flavors!"

  • "Very haute cuisine. Small portions that look elegant but do not surprise the palette. The tuna tartar was condensed and tough, not at all appetizing. I ate it with the intention of getting through it. The dessert was the same presentation with a 'thuddy', congealed feel when cutting into and biting into. (banana ganache) The mail course was half a lobster, one scallop and a piece of cod in a rose sauce that was very good. The few veggies were minimal and meaningless to the plate. No starch was offered. The pretzel bread was doughy and lacking taste. I liked the cranberry bread much better. For a special occasion to take in the view and be attended to well, this restaurant is good. The food - hit and miss."

  • "This was our first time at Five Sails and I have to say it was very impressive. We were seated with a window view of the harbour. The dine out menu was fantastic. Tuna tartar, duck (got the extra pan seared foie gras), and lemon dessert. All flavours were perfect for their dish. I would most definitely go back again. Highly recommend it!"
