  • "We had a great time celebrating a major birthday. Our server Sherry was perfect and allowed us to take our time and enjoy everything. She offered many good suggestions that were very helpful. The manager provided a great table for us and all staff were friendly and efficient."

  • "on the street experience with a great view very good service ono fish was overcooked, but graciously replaced by a monchong fish plate which was very well done with an excellent broth"

  • "The location and service at this restaurant is amazing! They went above and beyond to make us feel welcomed and special but we were not that impressed with the food. Food here is not cheep so with the service and prices you expect better quality food and thats what was missing for us unfortunately."

  • "This is my second to the restaurant. the first for diner this time for lunch. Lunch was much better . The gumbo was quite good maybe the best I have had.The shrimp bruchetta was also good. The meat needs spice and the rice tasted like a salt ball. The view can not be beat . It is a open air restaurant so it is a bit hot. The service is fast and friendly."

  • "After several $300-plus dinners for our family of 4, it was nice to dine for under $200 and have everyone pleased with their meals."

  • "Staff was very attentive, Jose the waiter is great! I had the Macadamia Nut crusted Mahi Mahi, it was very rich and flavorful, a bit pricy but very well worth it. The passion fruit cheese cake was delish!"

  • "We were looking for a seafood restaurant in Kona and decide to search Yelp. The food was reviewed a good and that it had a great view. The reviews weren't wrong. I had a seafood pasta that was excellent and my husband had the Ono fish and chips that were also delicious. I highly recommend this to anyone looking for good seafood in Kona."

  • "The food presentation was attractive on the plate , until you tasted it. Most things were over cooked, steak, fish, even the rice was dry. The worst part was it was not spiced at all not even salt and pepper.Nice view of ocean and every one was friendly ."

  • "We have eaten dinner at the Fish Hopper before and loved it. Now we had breakfast there and it was great. Good food, great view and staff was very friendly. Wonderful spot!"

  • "The view is great, overlooking the water and sunset and the waiter was very nice. The food was really disappointing. The sand dabs were mushy and soggy (the waiter highly recommended them), and it was difficult to tell what the veggies were other than the garlic potatoes. I ordered the big Bloody Mary with soggy tasteless shrimp--I didn't even eat them all and I love shrimp. We would not go there again."

  • "We have eaten there on many occasions while visiting Kona. The food is always great and there are many entrees from which to choose . The view out over the water is stunning and if lucky, a magnificent sunset may be seen."

  • "Nice Restaurant, with a lot of seafood options on there menu. My dinner was outstanding, our service was excellent from Darcy who guided us through the experience. The view is wonderful from there location, and the secret parking lot in the back makes it easy to be in and out of this location."

  • "Great ambience even tho you are sitting next to the road. The harbor and ocean views are super nice. Felt like we were VERY rushed. Know we were among the last diners arriving at 8pm but would have liked to relax and be more leisurely. Felt like they wanted us to hurry so the staff could go home even tho the sign said they were open til 11pm. We were in/out in 45 minutes. Food was very large portions with lots of vegetables. Staff were friendly and attentive. "

  • "Had the stuffed mushrooms, crab cakes, perfectly cooked rib eye, and their delicious lobster pasta. Our waitress was amazing. She Checked on us consistently and never had to ask for water. We were too stuffed for desert but overall my Mother's Day dinner was awesome."

  • "Made reservations by OpenTable and all went VERY well. Sometimes the requests either aren't communicated or not read by the restaurant. This time all was perfect. Took 4 Mom's to lunch and were offered the Mothers Day specials. VERY EXPENSIVE and the gals chose to order from menu. It was 2PM and having started the specials at 11AM, the "special cocktail" was not available due to "ran out of pink lemonade"!!! All 4 having ordered it were disappointed and so early in the day. The lunch menu is mostly sandwiches which didn't suit so we were left with some limited lunch entree selections. Regardless, the gathering and reason for the lunch was good, the food was good and the service, as always was very good."

  • "We stopped here for lunch on our last day on the island before heading to the airport. It's across the street from the ocean, and has a fairly nice view (if you don't count the cars driving by). Don't bother ordering a fruity cocktail - they screwed up three different ones. We sampled all kinds of things on the menu - the seafood is a must! Coconut shrimp is FABULOUS!"

  • "We love The Fish Hopper on Monterey, CA, so we were happy to eat at the one here in Kona. I got salad and clam chowder. Their clam chowder is my favorite, and it did not disappoint. My husband got the Monchong. It was a beautiful presentation. Came with expertly prepared vegetables and polenta. The dish was slightly lacking in flavor, but pretty good. The service was friendly and attentive."

  • "We had studied many menus in Kailua and it was difficult to pick one since the menus seemed similar. So we were thrilled to find the Fish Hopper. Wonderful and unusual specialty cocktails, delicious Ono, and a perfect view of the ocean. Add to that excellent service and it made for a perfect evening."

  • "Wait staff could use more help. Felt like it took awhile for waiter to come around and introduce himself and then almost seven minutes to get a drink. Food had a nice presentation taste was good. A little on pricey side of things though."

  • "Made a reservation on OpenTable without knowing anything about the place/location (OpenTable is always great and easy to use). Expected this to be a high end place due to price, menu, reviews. Although the location is great looking out over the water, it is right in the middle of the strip with dive bars, tattoo shops, and other tourist fare. It looks like another bar from the outside. We sat at a wonderful reserved table but then weren't greeted by a server for 15 minutes (a huge pet peeve). A manager then came to take our order. Left there still not feeling like we ever had a server. Strange. The food was average, nothing stood out or was overwhelmingly wonderful. I would not return there for the price of the food, level of service, etc."

  • "The staff are amazing especially Mathew, Randy and Darci. I wanted to have a romantic time with my wife for her 30th birthday so I booked a table at the Hopper. When I wrote to request a special time, I received multiple personal emails from the general manager and restaurant manager ensuring that it would be great. And it was! Darci, our waitress allowed us to have a long and great 3 hour dinner with great food, laughs with Darci and the staff. The management came over several times to ensure we were treated like celebrities. It was a special time and it was all due to the special attention we received and great food delivered. I cannot thank the staff enough. Keep up the amazing customer service! This is a top notch restaurant! "

  • "We brought our family member from the Mainland in for dinner. Overall, everything was very good. The service was excellent as was the dessert. He ordered the lobster tail and shrimp, and for a large person, it wasn't enough food. A lot of money for a very small portion of lobster. Otherwise, we enjoyed ourselves greatly. Mahalo."

  • "Visited the big Island for 10 days and this was our favorite restaurant! Fish dishes are outstanding! Beautiful presentation and tasted delicious... We had the mahi, hebi, shrimp, ahi- all outstanding. The view from the restaurant is of the Harbour. Service attentive! This is a casual unassuming place with great service"

  • "My husband and I recently dined at the Fish Hopper, Kailua-Kona and had a very enjoyable dining experience. We started with the calamari appetizer, which was good but could have been a bit crisper. Our entrees were macadamia nut mahimahi for my husband and the lemon grass / ginger-crusted ono for me. Both were delicious, well-prepared and attractively presented. They were also a bit pricey for our budget ($27.95 each), but it was a special occasion and we splurged. The service was excellent - our server, Darci, was friendly, personable, knowledgeable and efficient. Having her as our server certainly added to the enjoyment of our evening. We will be back!"

  • "We had checked in person two days earlier and had the printout. When we arrived around 12:30 for a 1 pm reservation---12 people, with three children, after a funeral---no table and a large party where we were told they would put us & no other feasible possibility. First we were told "ten minutes." Half an hour later, we were told, "Just another ten minutes." Then the truth came out:that an employee made a mistake, and there was no record of our reservation. When we finally got seated at about 1:30 we were told staff were "off duty." Service was almost non-existent and the food arrived about 30 inutes later---almost cold. The kitchen staff were "off duty." The manager said he was "sorry" for the mix up but offered nothing"

  • "All of us ordered different kinds of fish-all good. Service was attentive. We requested a water view table on open table - they gave us a table overlooking Harbour. Dessert was ok only - skip it"

  • "The specials were excellent and good portions. Service was attentive and the hostess asked us to wait a few minutes while she had a table with a great view of the water cleared for us. Great value."

  • "Our party enjoyed the evening ocean view as we were given an up front table which added to our dinning experience. The staff was polite and fairly attentive to our dinning needs. Most of the food served was very good, we enjoyed our experience."

  • "Place was clean, had a great view and I was anxious to try some good ahi! We ordered and waited forever. Our entries arrived and...no ahi! Our waiter forgot to put in our appetizer. VERY disappointed! The rest of the food was ok but not great. Small portions, waiter was unskilled and dripped water on my foot and my son's twice. $200 bill before tip was kind off steep for 4 people with no alcohol and no appetizer. We paid and walked up the street to look at a store and on the way back to our car we were grilled rudely by the lady at the door since we parked in their lot. We had just been there and she had even poured water for is a couple times. Just the final nail in a bad experience, I guess."

  • "I really appreciated the manager, Joel, coming to suggest a booth for my husband and I as an alternative to waiting in the bar. He took me over to sit there to see what I thought before deciding. The food was delicious - especially the mushroom raviolis our fish was served with! Not only the manager, but the General Manager, stopped to check on us. There was a huge selection of scrumptious looking desserts! We only tried one."

  • "We asked a couple of random strangers in the airport for restaurant recommendations in Kailua - each of them said "Try The Fish Hopper". What great advice! We say at the bar and tried a couple of specialty drinks while our table was being cleared. When we arrived we had asked the manager, Joel, for a roadside/harbor view table. He cheerfully obliged and we were given a great view of the harbor and the opportunity to indulge in some people watching. Menu watching was superb too. We had calamari to start (I'd also recommend the ahi trio) and then the Big Island Ahi Tuna - blackened with some gentle papaya relish and my wife ordered the filet. Both great. Only challenge is parking as there is only a small lot behind the restaurant."

  • "The actual menu was vastly different than their online menu. Even when the items were the same they were 20% higher than the online prices. Sort of like bait and switch. Food was good but portions are small and expensive."
