  • "Bad bar experience as it is set in a path of travel for the staff and the bartender didn't know what he was doing. A negron I dies not contain a cherry nor sugar floating at the bottom of the glass. The manager of the restaurant was speaking bluntly and in a demeaning manner to his very young back off house staff who we never should have seen anyway. Just a weird experience altogether."

  • "Food was good. Service was almost too attentive. Although it was not busy at all that night, we felt like they were rushing us a bit."

  • "Went there for the final night of our wedding/birthday weekend thinking it would be a great place for locally sourced fresh ingredients near Union Square. The kitchen/staff screwed up our order twice, missing something that was ordered and then bringing a duplicate entrée like 10 minutes after we had finished eating - not realizing if we had even eaten yet. Oh, and my vegan dinner of quinoa and bell peppers that was $25 was so small that I had to eat again when I got home. Also pretty unusual to not even be presented with a dessert menu when we told the staff it was one of our guest’s birthdays. Fail all around."

  • "Eliseo Soto is creating delicious food at Fish and Farm. We started with an outstanding artichoke salad. I could drive to the City right now to have that again! The scallops, served with mango cucumber colis, were perfectly cooked; loved every bite. Our excellent server was well informed and kept us on schedule for our 7:00 pm show."

  • "The waiter was wonderful without going over the top. When my friend ordered a glass of wine that they ran out of he brought back two pours of different wines for her to taste to see if she would be ok with something else. The yellowtail was really good. My friend ordered the pork chop and that was phenomenal! I took a taste and it tasted like a steak. Exactly how it should be and very rarely is. It is also nice that all food is naturally farmed and or organic. My friends and I would definitely come back."

  • "My parents were in town visiting from the east coast. We were looking for a restaurant with a good variety of fish and local options. Fish and Farm was the place! The three of us each chose a different type of seafood and none were disappointed. We were willing to try new wines that our waiter suggested with his wealth of knowledge. Will definitely head back there again soon!"

  • "To be a foodie is to order what is interesting, not common. You wil find that here with Chef Eliseo Soto who is truly gifted. All dishes were well executed, and flavorful. The meat and seafood is sustainably farmed. The plates came filled, and delightfully presented. For starters we shared the plump seared scallops. We fell back into the padded booth not believing what our taste buds were telling us. Then on to the delicious warm goat cheese galette. For the main course we ate the roasted Loch Duart salmon and Yellowtail. All tingling with flavor. I must say, their southern fried Petaluma chicken can stand up to any soul food I’ve tasted before. The homemade desserts were packed with flavor. This is American food with a culinary twist."

  • "Found an open reservation for near our hotel without much lead time. Reviews on Trip Advisor led us here. They focus on local and sustainable food sources. The food was very good. The fried chicken was fabulous, moist and very tasty. We recommend."

  • "Tucked into the Mark Twain hotel in the theater district, Fish & Farm specializes in providing local sustenance, with great fish dishes, fried chicken to die for and some wonderful salads. The room is a long lean room and it can get busy. Service is pleasant and efficient. Interesting wine list. Portions on some of the dishes can be small, so if you're really hungry, order the fried chicken. The root beer float with Southern Comfort will put a buzz on, so be careful. We have found this a pleasant alternative for pre and post theater dining."

  • "Loved the wine list and cocktail menu. For food, there were interesting flavor combinations - however, they sometimes clashed. Definitely try it if you are in the theater district regularly."

  • "On 3/21 had reservations for 2 at 5:45pm showed up at 5:35pm...restaurant was not even open had to go through the hotel. When we asked about our restaurant the waitress berated us for being early! The waitress then proceed to seat us in the farthest corner near the kitchen. We asked if we could sit near the front near a winder but this was too much for her and were told very curtly again we were early and will get what we get. THE RESTAURANT WAS EMPTY!!! Her motive was very clear later when she proceed to talk on the phone at the Hostess Desk...very loudly about how she lost $200 at a party at the restaurant and how she should be reimbursed for this because she is be taken advantaged of. REALLY! Not enough characters left to finish my anger"

  • "Very good food and smart service from our server David in terms of food and wine recommendations. But service was slow for 7:30 on a Thursday night and only five tables full (four twos and a five). Don't know if it was a kitchen or number of servers issue, and things perked up when owner?/manager? and receptionist were pressed into service. So restaurant addressed issue when it reached mildly irritating stage."

  • "I could not have been happier with my dining experience at FF last evening! The wait staff was so accommodating to my *picky* needs around food and were so gracious and attentive all evening. i tried the seared scallops that weren't quite seared enough (for most people they would have been perfect, but i needed just a scad more heat,) so they quickly fired them for me and returned, adding two extra! The portion was already pretty generous so i really appreciated the gesture. I went on to have the most delectable fried chicken, perfectly seasoned and crispy , yet moist, served *comfort food* style with mashed potatoes, greens and madeline shaped cornbread . All in all it was a lovely evening of great food and service--i will return soon."

  • "I took my younger brother and his girlfriend (visiting from my hometown in Iowa) to this restaurant to show them what I'd been raving about. The Fish & Farm staff are so welcoming and so attentive. My brother was so very impressed at the amount of service we were given. As always, the food was amazing (I had the New York Steak - it has this bone marrow sauce that you will most definitely remember). The ambiance was great, and the evening ended fabulously. If Fish & Farm is an option for you, go there! You will not regret it."

  • "I came in with low expectations, being that the place is in a hotel and located downtown. I was pleasantly surpised by the experience. The place could use a bit of a make over but other than that my expectations were exceeded. A friend suggested I try it after she recently attended a wine dinner she heard about on line. The staff was very friendly. I went to the bar first and there happened to be a beer tasting with the brewer from Speakeasy, which was complimentary for anyone dining. That was a nice surprise! Apparently they have cool events there every month, which I never would have expected. The food was also very good, I had salmon and artichoke salad. The whiskey menu was also impressive! I will definitely be back again!"

  • "Having waited too long to visit Fish and Farm for my first time, I was sorry to see it in complete disrepair. We walked right by the front door - so its almost as thought they aren't even encouraging business. Once inside, there was no one to be found. Eventually the hostess came and acknowledged our reservation. We settled in and were greeted ever so casually by our server. What we ordered was fine - spring salad with goat cheese; fried chicken cooked just right, and hamburger on soft bun. But we couldn't get past the dingy atmosphere or the lack of any sort of vibrancy. Even the carpet en route to the restroom was frayed. And lets not talk about the awful condition that was in (I mentioned it to the hotel front desk but nothing was done.)"

  • "The restaurant is an odd one, but this is why it is interesting to go there. The neighborhood is outskirts of theatre district, the dark leather booths are old school, and the restaurant needs more servers. When busy it can take you an hour just to leave...I missed the first act at the SF Ballet because of their delays. The pork is very good but the scallops for $29 are smaller than appetizer size. You will not be full after leaving the place. Overall, not the best in the region full of so-so restaurants."

  • "The restaurant décor fit into the theme. It was very crowded for a Saturday night, even when we arrived by 5:45. The service was fine, but nothing above and beyond. We were seated next to a large party so all I could hear was their conversation. The scallops were disproportionate to the plate - four small scallops with a giant center of potato puree. The cioppino was pretty good, more of a creamy tomato soup base than a tomato/white wine - chock full of seafood so it was worth the price. It's good to try new restaurants, but this didn't impress me enough to return."

  • "I chose Fish & Farm for Sat night dinner so that we could avoid the Chinese New Year parade. It was a short walk from our hotel and easy for the people meeting us. We were greeted very warmly on arrival and shown right to our table. Drinks came promptly, followed by appetizers and bread. As the room became busier, David kept an eye on us and kept everything on track. The lamb shank was outstanding, and well as the mussels and artichoke salad. David made nice suggestions about wines and dessert. I am delighted I chose this restaurant and look forward to being there again."

  • "I went for dinner here with my girlfriend on a Friday. The description of the food did sound very good online, but the pictures of the restaurant definitely oversold the ambiance. We were expecting something a bit more fine-dining-ish, and arrived quite over-dressed relative to the t-shirt and jeans patrons. The environment was definitely WAY more casual/low-key than we though. Think laminated printed menus, no real decor...we almost left but GLAD WE STAYED! The food was absolutely delicious, and the staff was so friendly and helpful--no pretense at all. Pork chop was a 12/10--best I've had, and the desserts (the floats especially) were off-the-hook. Highly recommend it, but don't dress up when you go :-)."

  • "The staff is very pleasant but service is very disjointed. The wait between arrival / seating and receiving our orders was too long. The food was good but overpriced in view of portion size and presentation--the scallops are driving this comment. Ambiance is nice but service just doesn't support the pricing"

  • "I haste been here several times before. This was a terrific experience. Adam was our server (and the bar tender). He was well prepared, knew the menu and made solid recommendations. When there was small problem with one of our entrees he corrected it immediately. We will be back!"

  • "It's hard to tell what we love more about this place: its proximity to Union Square, the incredible wine list, or the amazing, sustainable food. We've had a number of dinners here, and whether it's beef, seafood, or veggie dishes, we've never been disappointed."

  • "I am taking this off my repeat list, asthe tables are too close together, there is little chance for relaxed and/ or intimate conversation. There is less seasonal change than in the past. We both ordered scallops. They appeared to be large scallops that had been cut in half horizonattly so that they were flatter than usual for their size. They were also slightly overcooked. I have no doubt that the ingredients are fresh, the presentation is not as unique as I once remembered it. Also the price is too high for the xcrowded rushed experience (nor are the servings huge.)"

  • "Despite the mixed reviews, we decided to give this restaurant a try. So glad we did! It was cozy, relaxing and the food was…for lack of a better word…comforting. Excellent wines by the glass selection as well and our waitress was very informative, helpful and hospitable. Would definitely go back!"

  • "I chose this restaurant because I was going to the Exit Theater nearby. From the buzz, it seems the ownership is reducing hours so they don't have to offer health care. Somehow the staff, seemingly pretty ignorant, blamed the Affordable Care Act. Also the staff is expected to manage contractors and repair people to the detriment of their service work. The food is imaginative, but sparse. The wine list is simply egregious for San Francisco. The waiter recommended a cabernet sauvignon from Lodi. BYOB. I can't imagine making an effort to eat here again with so many better options in the City. A 'fair' rating in San Francisco is really a fail. That is also my advice to the staff; find an employer that appreciates you."

  • "Everything but the food was exceptional. For the price, I expected the food to be more creative, and flavorful. Everything was a bit bland. The portions of pork chops, and fried chicken, that my husband, and I ordered, were generous, however, my daughter ordered Quinoa with Ratatouille, and it was disappointingly small. She did enjoy the taste though."
