Diner Reviews
  • "Sleek and modern feel in what has to be a very old house. Food was phenomenal-- try the buffalo pig's ear! Not sure that Key West is foodie enough for this place, but I hope so."

  • "We dined on the Firefly upstairs balcony and watched the evening unfold on Petronia Street in the heart of Old Town Key West. Life in the neighbors of Key West is much more interesting that life on Duval Street (and the bar scene). The service was warm and friendly, the food interesting and superb. My husband raved about the Gumbo; my 'bronzed cod' was perfectly cooked and presented. We shared the Banana Cream Pie - a hint of chocolate, a lovely cream filing - not too sweet; and a generous amount of bananas. The vegetarian selections are just as interesting; well thought-out and generous portions. We know we will be frequent diners - next visit will be Brunch!"

  • "Found Firefly looking for gastropub-esque like venues off the beaten path in Key West. What a great little restaurant! Located just walking distance from Truman Annex, this placed offers a fresh look at comfort foods, southern comfort foods to be exact. Their fried green tomatoes were a fantastic starter and the gumbo was a very well done. The key lime cake (not pie, mind you) was the perfect finish. The bar offers a good selection of craft beers/wine and the staff were very knowledgeable and friendly. I'll definitely be back on my next trip to the Conch Republic."

  • "Great flavors prepared from scratch. Creative twist on the comforts of home will want you coming back. We stopped for brunch and had the shrimp n grits and the waffles and chicken. Only regret is we didn't have enough room or another day to for a second visit."

  • "My boyfriend and I were in town for the weekend and didn't want the usual burger-type food that's on Duval St. This place was wonderful from the moment we walked in! Its casual attire, but the food is upscale and the atmosphere is chic. We ended up sitting at the bar and talking with the various staff members who were all friendly and very enthusiastic about their jobs and the type of food/product they were providing. They are a beer and wine only, but managed to come up with creative combinations that felt like you were drinking a martini. I had the sea bass special which was AMAZING and very flavorful! Dessert was an awesome and creative chocolate chip biscuits with chocolate gravy masterpiece! If you're in the Keys this is a must!"

  • "Firefly offers diversity on a Fresh Fish Island! From South Georgia bbq to New Orleans catfish platters to a Charleston-Savannah shrimp and grits feast....Fire Fly has you covered. Enjoy Southern cooking from grandma's cabin in a Caribbean Island Community with deep historic Spanish roots."

  • "Delicious food, and we tried a lot of it! We couldn't have been more pleased with the food, service, drinks, and location! Really the best food we have found in the Keys."

  • "As a new restaurant and visitors to Key West we found Firefly to be a great place. The fried chicken and gumbo were just what we needed after a busy day! GREAT PLACE!"

  • "Delicious! Got the buffalo pigs ears & homemade beef jerky for appetizers - the ears had good flavor & the jerky was interesting - not too salty, great dipping sauce & the Worcestershire salt was a nice touch. Needed cornbread to go with the pig's ears so got the bread basket,. Glad we did! The oversized biscuit was fluffy, hot & pretty darn delicious. The corn bread was more traditional (i.e. not too sweet), nicely browned around the edges. Entree special was cornmeal crusted catfish fillets on top of gumbo z'herbes - fantastic with real depth of flavor. My friend ordered the regular gumbo, seasoned and cooked perfectly. Incredible beer list & nice assortment of wines. Friendly & accommodating staff. I'd recommend Firefly highly!"

  • "Walking by I thought Firefly qualified as a "hole in the wall". So I was surprised to see that its actually quite an elegant place with an absolutely wonderful 2nd floor eating porch. In addition, our server was exceptionally well-informed, efficient and, to boot, a hoot. Oh, and by the way, the food is tremendous!"

  • "This restaurant is tucked into the side streets of Key West and, thankfully, very much off busy Duval Street. Our party of three enjoyed a very good, fresh meal on the outside patio after we requested to be moved because of the much too loud, and inappropriate, music playing from the ceiling speakers inside. Hard rock does not a peaceful brunch make. To their credit, they did offer to turn it down. Our food was fresh, tasty and plentiful. The garlic fries were very good but much too salty to enjoy. Service was friendly but very slow, but this is Key West after all. The servers had to be reminded we needed sugar for the coffee, which was excellent, three times. We will visit again, but with plenty of time to wait."

  • "Br/Lunch at Firefly was a treat; we were seated immediately and offered water right after. Shrimp and grits were presented in a skillet, and the entree did not disappoint. Waffle and fried chicken, a long time favorite, consisted of a beautifully fried chicken breast wrapped in a thin, pizzelle-like waffle and topped with a savory sweet sauce. Dessert was a shared slice of banana cream pie-only a few crumbs remained when we were finished."

  • "This new spot in Key West is a real addition to the dining scene. Each dish is inventive with a flair found in big city restaurants. They have made this place onto a lovely spot with a great deck upstairs. There are great beers and a nice wine selection. Try some small plates such as duck wings or enjoy a delicious pork chop which is among the larger portions."

  • "Food was wonderful, but a little heavy on the pepper. Fine for me, but maybe not for others."

  • "Best gumbo ever! Also best roasted brussel sprouts ever! Excellent! Problems: servers wanted to clear our table while we were still eating and had food on our plates. We felt rushed, and for no reason; they weren't that busy. They "ran out" of one of the few desserts on the menu, and we were there very early in the evening, soon after they opened for dinner. They also had no bread! Some rough edges need to be smoothed out, but the place has great potential."

  • "I'm a local and I've been meaning to try this restaurant for a while. It's almost right. Next to blue heaven, and if you like southern food you can't miss. I went for lunch and came back the next day for dinner. Just fabulous!"

  • "Small place, off the beaten path. It was very quiet for Sunday brunch as restaurant was mostly deserted. Disappointed that they do not have a liquor license--only wine and beer--and unable to get brunch cocktail. Menu is limited. Very simple décor. Our waitress was very nice and attentive. I think their dinner menu looks much more intriguing than the brunch menu."

  • "We had an outstanding meal this evening. We had a party of 6 and it was effortless from reservations to the service level. Our server was as nice and attentive as she could be. We started out with the deviled eggs, beef jerky and fried green tomatoes. Amazing! Our meals- catfish, gumbo, fried chicken and flat iron steak. All outstanding. Dessert- key lime cake and chocolate Oreo cheesecake cupcake. Awesome. Highly recommend and would definitely come back."

  • "My recent dining experience at Firefly was a delight; we were all held up in traffic due to the Triathlon, so I called to let them know we'd be late--they could not have been more accommodating. They held our table for almost a half hour. The service was great; she knew just when to come to our table. Everyone enjoyed the food--the salads were beautifully arranged and entirely fresh and delicious. The sandwiches were served on amazing grilled homemade bread, and those French fries--don't get me started on how outstanding they were. Next time, I want to try dinner."

  • "The menu is filled with familiar comfort food taken to the next level. The fried chicken is great; the macaroni and cheese is creamy and delicious and the Oreo Pie Cupcake is decadent. Everything was wonderfully seasoned and tasted like it was cooked with love (just the way grandma used to do it). You can dine inside or on a great upstairs covered balcony while enjoying wonderful cocktails. The staff is attentive and eager to please without being intrusive. This is a definite must for anyone dining in Key West."

  • "Good southern cooking- a little spicy-a New Orleans kick!"

  • "The macaroni and cheese is incredible, as well as the kale salad. The fried chicken was good, but not as mind-blowing as it should have been given the price. The service was excellent and everyone at the restaurant was very friendly."

  • "A restaurant with a real chef, a menu, creativity, off the noise and the touristic disaster of Duval street. Felt like a place locals would go to. Made my trip to Key West, worth going to, I would go back again."

  • "This restaurant came highly recommended from multiple people we met while on the island. All of the reviews I read online made it seem like the food was to die for. The food was "fine." There was nothing exceptional. Our waitress recommended the fried chicken which 2 people in my party ordered. It was good but not near worth the $21. I could feed a family of 4 for $13 with the same food at KFC. All of the staff we interacted with were helpful and very nice but I think the recommendations were overblown and set our expectations too high. We spent $210 on a party of 4 to eat your standard fried chicken and mashed potatoes."

  • "We ate here on New Year's Day 2014 and I truly chose it because of its advertisement of Southern Cooking. Everything was delicious: shrimp and grits; chicken fried sliders and the chicken and waffles with an edgy touch of sophistication. The staff were outstanding and we enjoyed ourselves tremendously. MY ONLY COMPLAINT was that they did not have black eyed peas, cabbage and pork loin - a staple in our Southern cooking traditions on New Years Day."

  • "On our last trip to Key West this restaurant was named Columbian Grace and served fantastic Columbian food. So when we passed by and saw the new name/menu were disappointed but decided to try it one night. We ate Christmas Eve dinner there and we're glad we did. The new restaurant has seating on two floors now and patio seating upstairs, which is where we were seated. And the owners obviously spent quite a bit remodeling and it shows. There is a wide variety of Southern food on the menu. We had Fried Chicken w/collard green and gumbo. The gumbo is some of the best I've had...even compared to LA. 4-5 large shrimp, oysters, sausage, crawfish searved in a bowl with plenty of rice and three huge hush puppies. It was a meal in itself."

  • "Lovely location in Bahama Village. The upstairs balcony is peaceful and pretty. Our weekday lunch was the best meal I've had in the Keys in a decade. The gumbo and shrimp and grits are both fabulous, although you'll want to save time for a nap if you have them for lunch. The shrimp were sublimely fresh and perfectly prepared. Don't miss this place."

  • "An unexpected twist on Southern favorites. Steamed crawfish app was wonderful, killer Mac n cheese, tender steak w smoked tomato jus, awesome brown butter sweet potatoes and roasted Brussels sprouts. Good fried catfish special on yummy cheesy grits w re ovulate and Brussels slaw. Can't wait to try moe, gumbo, oysters, fried green tomatoes. Desserts promise. Brunch/lunch every day."
