Guests enjoy the white-washed brick, warm fireplace and handmade Amish farm tables of our back dining rooms.   • "It was a Saturday evening in mid-July so the restaurant - which is a good size - was relatively quiet when we visited. We had a perfectly delicious dinner from starters to dessert. (We do not normally have room for dessert but the portion size of every course here was perfect.) The menu is not lengthy but there is plenty of choice and the food was very fresh and perfectly cooked. We would go back to this restaurant in a flash and look forward to returning sometime. Nice wine list with some wonderful choices and the restaurant is happy to re-cork the bottle and let you take home what you are unable to finish. This was a really delightful dinner. The service was very good. Our server recommended a great non-alcoholic aperitif."

  • "Ate here twice in the past week, had terrific meals both time. Great drinks and service. Love the farm-to-table theme and interesting entree choices. It can get quite noisy so if you're looking for a quiet tete-a-tete this might not be the right choice, but if you're looking to go out for a good time with friends it's perfect. The only tiny complaint would be that both times I was here it was absolutely freezing inside, way too chilly for comfort, and I wasn't the only one who commented on it. Fortunately there was an outside table available the second time so we sat there."

  • "First time dining @Firebox. Really appreciated the farm-to-table approach, which is reflected in the menu as well as with the server's knowledge of where everything they serve is sourced from. You can taste the difference. Neighborhood is a bit dodgy; parked on the street across from the restaurant and didnt have any issues with that. Menu was a bit small, but there was enough diversity for our group. Overall, food was excellent."

  • "My fourth experience at the Firebox which has been otherwisw quite good. On this particular evening the food was still good. The service was off. One entree was incorrect. A waitress dropped food from a tray trying to get through a difficult to open door. Shortly after that the waitress sent wine glasses careening off another tray shattering onto the patio. Mostly this was just sad for her. Problematic was the entree that was not ordered which put one of our group out of synch with the rest of us. The drinks came late. The waiter made up for the gaffes with his personality and saved the evening. It was just an off night saved by a good waiter. I will go back."

  • "Sunday afternoons have bands. We drove up from Fairfield County to see a specific band which is one of my favorites. Because it is a great band to dance to, we assumed there would be room for dancing. We were disappointed that there was no area in which to dance! We did, with much difficulty, have a few dances between the bar and the tables. It was very awkward, as we were in the way of the waiters trying to serve patrons. I liked the restaurant's policy to serve locally grown, seasonal foods. There were lots of unusual items on the menu, however. We needed to ask our waiter what several of the foods actually were! We frequently dine out, but I had yet to experience such a strange selection on the menu. The french fries were very tasty!"

  • "I've been to Firebox with (different) clients on 3 different occasions, and each time--the food and fare, as well as service, have been as great as experienced during my prior visit. The food at Firebox is very "clean"--unadulterated by bland sauces or too many varied flavors. And the atmosphere is "urban country". Only caveat--save extra time to find a parking space, especially during Farmer's Market days (although the Farmer's Market also proved to be a benefit--my delicious strawberry lemonade came from fresh strawberries culled from the market next door)."

  • "Had a wonderful dinner at Firebox over the weekend. Despite a large wedding party occupying much of the back dining room Mike, our server, was great and the food was outstanding. My wife had the spring soup, hamburger from the tavern menu and a ceasar...all great! I decided to have an app dinner - ordered the ceasar also along with the mussels and calamari. It was more than a full meal and just fantastic. I thought the calamari app was the best until the mussels came. I've been fortunate enough to have mussels in Brussels and Paris - these would hold their own in either city."

We were in Hartford to see an interview with Dan brown at the bushnell theater in conjunction wth the mark twain museum I found firebox on open table. It is a great restaurant . Great feel, service and food. We were warmly greeted and seeted . Our server was friendly knowledgable and clearly loved working at this restaurant and proud of the food prepared . We shared a charcuterie appetizer which was sublime. Entree was a special fresh scallops over risotto .scallops melted in our mouths. Our server suggested we come back for brunch We loved this meal much so we did. The host at the door recognized us as well as our server Sunday who was not our server Saturday night. Wonderful experience go !"

  • "Fire Box continues to delight. They master a wide range of flavors and are a passionate supporter of local farmers and providers. While most combinations are brilliant, I wasn't too happy with their calamari appetizer. The chorizo and vegetables were spot on, but the calamari was bland and had a limp texture. Our duck main course was magnificent and desserts memorable, a category often neglected these days. A wide range of interesting wines and a full spectrum of price points. Friendly and knowledgeable wait staff."

The food was excellent - imaginative and beautifully cooked. The staff were extra friendly and the service was excellent. And discovering that they put money back into the community was an added bonus. Some of the best food we have had in the US. Thoroughly recommend Firebox"

This week was his graduation and possibly our final celebration meal at Firebox (I hope not). Either way, thank you to all of the management and staff who have made every visit to Firebox memorable. My position in corporate food and beverage has me on the road much of the time and I get to eat in the best restaurants all over the country. Firebox makes my top 10 list every year. Keep up the good work for the next Trinity class, for the business travelers and for the local community you serve so well."

  • "This was our fourth visit to Firebox and things only seem to be improving. The service has always been great but the food has gone from great to excellent. The menu is small but with a wide variety of appetizers, salads and entrees and the kitchen uses local produce in creative and elegant ways. Portions are reasonable and prices are high but fair. The wine list also has many and some unusual choices. We will happily dine there again."

  • "We visited Firebox for Mother's Day. Two of our dishes were good (soft shell crab and mussels). However, just one small softshell crab for $22 seemed a lot. One person ordered the dinner size sweet pea soup and asked the waitress ahead of time if it would be enough food for a meal. She said she thought yes, but the soup came without bread and was a clear broth in a shallow bowl with a few vegetables thrown in. The last person ordered the egg sandwich with Melville cheese. The sandwich was dry with a small amount of cheese. This visit really bummed me out because it's the second time I've had an inconsistent meal there. As a result, I don't plan to go again or to recommend it. It's too much of a disappointment. They can do better."

  • "Thanks to Open Table's comment box, while making our reservation, we were warmly greeted at Firebox. Our table was in the quieter part of the restaurant, which was perfect. We shared a bottle of very good wine, had a plate of cheeses from Connecticut to begin our repast and then thoroughly enjoyed the best Caesar salad we have ever had. The meals were very good as well. I highly recommend Firebox. Very cool atmosphere and very welcoming. Our waitress knew just when to appear and just when to sidle away."
