Diner Reviews
  • "A lovely dining experience! Seated in a booth with a great street view, the wait staff provided impeccable service. The Lemon Drop martinis were prepared to perfection. We ordered something from every section of the menu. In many cases I needed some interpretation of what the items were, but the waiter did a great job helping us decide. We shared everything – Burrata, Papardelle, Braciola, Verdure, and All 3 Gelati. My favorite was the Papardelle – spinach pasta with asparagus. My least favorite: the Verdure – a mixed vegetable dish of various squash. There was nothing special about its preparation or presentation. Filini definitely makes it on my list of restaurants that warrant a return visit."

  • "Perfect setting for a business dinner. Elegant, modern decor, with a manageable menu and moderately priced wines. Service was punctual and yet not intrusive. The waiter also made some well received recommendations. I would only suggest that the staff suggest adjourning to the seating by the fabulous wall fire place for an after dinner drink. Fabulous space that was underutilized that evening."

  • "This place was terrific - from the endless refills of refreshing hibiscus tea to the eat-it-up-delectable shrimp and calamari salad - piquant to the last forkful. And the booths are beautifully designed to coccoon you in your own private cubicle. Loved it - would definitely seek it out next time I'm in Chicago."

  • "Excellent food and service. Will be returning in the future to try more of the menu."

  • "Food was terrific. Service was fine too. Only problem was that bus boy served me regular coffee instead of decaf I requested - up all night after that. Be sure to look around the small sitting area in the lobby downstairs - so beautiful."

  • "Solid food, relaxed atmosphere with a good vibe. Good bar scene at the first floor bar."

  • "While visiting Chicago, we had dinner at filini. The servers were attentive and ambience was very good however the food did not live up to its other features. We had a tuna appetizer in which the delicate flavor of the tuna was overpowered by balsamic vinegar. In my husbands monkfish entrée the delicate fish flavor was again overpowered by a strong tomato sauce. I had eggplant parmesan which included large pieces of quite tough eggplant skin however the flavor was good."

  • "Was looking forward to Filini's after seeing lots of positive reviews. Our experience was disappointing. Reservation for 8pm on Friday night -- restaurant was surprisingly only half-full. Service was fine, but not particularly warm or engaged. Food was erratic. Scallops were delicious, prepared well and served on yummy saffron risotto. Black Angus Filet was served overcooked the 1st time. 2nd time was underdone and too heavily salted (although the beef itself had a nice flavor). Bombolini's for dessert (comped because of the misfire with the steak) were tasty even though the salted caramel sauce was way too salty. We'll be looking for another option for dinner next time we're in the this neighborhood."

  • "Filini is in the most unlikely of places: a Ramada! But this is not your father's Ramada nor is Filini a typical hotel restaurant. It is chic and upscale. The food, while not extraordinary is very good and the service is excellent. Great wines are available by the glass and the sharing plates are tasty and served in generous portions. We were there on a Saturday night and we're only puzzled by the small crowd."

  • "What a pleasant surprise! Filini is across from my office building, but I did not discover it until yesterday. This is a very neat place with an excellent (and friendly) staff. The food is really good. I got the rapid lunch special and it was perfect. I am taking a small business group there for lunch in April, based on the wonderful experience I had yesterday."

  • "At 6 pm was soooo noisy we had to leave bar area and eat in hallway. Service by Willis was excellent, polite, attentive and very nice; food was good, but noise level terrible in bar. I think there are too many hard surfaces and the noise level could be helped with baffles of fabric from fabric, padded walls or something to absorb some of the very loud sounds that bounce off all the tile, plastic, glass, metal etc. Looks great but not very practical!"

  • "We went during Restaurant Week and enjoyed the restaurant. It is in the neighborhood but we had not been there before only in the lower level bar. Great service and nice presentation."

  • "Service was amazing, our waiter Thomas was very polite. He made sure we were comfortable. The staff is amazing the managers checked on us as well as the chef, to make sure things were ok and if we had any concerns. They made our first time amazing. We are going back again soon!"

  • "The food was excellent. The server and manager were helpful, but the service could have been improved. Two items we wanted to order were out (this was about 8:00 p.m. on a Saturday evening). Maybe this is unreasonable, but I expect a restaurant to have all menu items available. We also had to wait to be seated for 15 minutes after our reservation, which seemed odd, since the restaurant wasn't that busy. We had to ask for water, to which the manager was very responsive and apologized that we needed to ask. This was reflective of the server--she could have stopped by more often. In general, however, we'd go back."

  • "We had a lovely Valentine's Day meal before a show. The service was excellent and so was the food. The soup and salads were fabulous as was the veal and steak in a trendy and chic atmosphere. Thanks!"

  • "Our waiter accommodated restaurant week a day late since we moved our reservation due to weather. The food was absolutely wonderful and our service was so friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. I loved the tv tray style platter that held all three courses. We were happy to see the daily lunch special for only $21. We won't wait a year for restaurant week to return to this gem of a restaurant."

  • "I had a wonderful evening with my girlfriend at Filini. The service was GREAT and the entire evening couldn't have gone more perfectly. The chef came directly to our table and gave us an additional lamb entree to try which was cooked perfectly. My girlfriend and I were extremely impressed by the flavors of all the foods from the starters to the desserts. Our waiter Thomas was great and the manager also came to check up on us several times, adding to our great experience. I loved my experience there and I will definitely be going back there soon."

  • "We thought the food at Filini was delicious. However, the service on a recent Saturday night was poor. Although the restaurant wasn't very full, there were two large, noisy parties monopolizing the attention of the wait staff. Serving our table for two was not anyone's priority, and it really detracted from our enjoyment of the evening. We live downtown in the Lakeshore East neighborhood, so we will probably dine at Filini again. The food was good enough to deserve another chance, but the service needs a lot of improvement."

  • "I owe it all to Richard Kim, Manager @ Filini. I had stopped by for a drink at the bar, and Mr. Kim started telling me about Filini. Additionally, as part of "restaurant week" one of Filini's servers offered me a sample of their "Crema" soup - a delectable porcini mushroom soup that was one of the items on the "prix fixe menu." I made a booking and hosted a couple of guests at Filini a few days later. I chose the following: Sformatino, Campidanese, and finished with the Mascarpone (which was complemented with Limoncello)! Our server Meghan was extremely knowledgeable, and her attentiveness was always perfectly timed. If you are in Chicago this week, do stop at Filini for lunch or dinner. Ask for Mr. Kim!"

  • "Food was too salty, steak was overcooked....overall a disappointment. SOOOOOO many better choices downtown."

  • "We go here often. There are usually not many diners (perhaps because it is a hotel restaurant?) We have always found the food to be excellent and the service to be wonderful. Their menu is a more upscale take on Italian food with more typical options available on their children's menu. We have enjoyed everything we have tried. I would definitely recommend checking them out!"

  • "A gem in an otherwise limited neighborhood. Interesting menu with an upscale Italian fare. Nicely prepared and served with a knowledgeable, attentive but not over attentive staff."

  • "I recently dined at Filini with a group of friends for a birthday celebration. When we arrived, birthday cards signed by the restaurant staff were on the table...a very nice personal touch. Everything from the wine to the appetizers and the service to desserts was excellent. Our group sampled the pasta, swordfish, veal & lamb chops....everyone left satisfied. The atmosphere was modern & cozy. I would highly recommend!!"

  • "I chose this hotel restaurant on Christmas Day for my wife's birthday. I generally prefer hotel restaurants since they have certain level of quality of service and food. I was right with Filini restaurant. In general, restaurant has a very modern structure as part of hotel. Modern and open space, kitchen. Service was slightly slow at the beginning but it was very good later on. We had no rush and wanted to enjoy our time and food. Menu was not crowded but had good quality of food selection. Restaurant manager "Richard" surprised us with birthday cake (chocolate cake - which my wife likes most) and birthday card with notes written by restaurant staff. Very lovely touch. I highly recommend Filini among competitive Chicago restaurants."

  • "We arrived at our reservation time of 1:30 to find the restaurant empty and advised that service ended at 2:00, obviously confusion in the communication system, we chose the restaurant specifically for the "Feast of the 7 Fishes" tasting menu. The manager came to our table within minutes and told us they could complete four courses of the tasting menu and would happily comp a remainder of fill in dishes. The service was impeccable and the staff completed the entire tasting menu. We were elated with the extra step, great service and a memorable experience."

  • "Dined here for my son's 16th birthday on Christmas Eve. The entire staff signed a birthday card for him which was waiting at his seat - very nice touch! The server was very helpful, honest and attentive. We had the monk fish, swordfish, spaghetti and fettuccine - all dishes were spot on and extremely flavorful. For desert we had the beignet (caramel sauce was amazing) and the tiramisu - again spot on and delicious."

  • "Our entire group of 4 was very surprised at the high quality of every dish. While many of the dishes were expected Italian entries, there were unexpected nuances in all of them - from salads through deserts. The only disappointment was that the place was almost empty. We were there on a snowy Sunday evening, but I also suspect that being attached to a Radisson Hotel lowers the expectations of those looking for a fine dining experience. We were staying across the street at the Fairmont. While we enjoy Aria, our choice the next time we are in the vicinity will be Filini, Highly recommended."

  • "Filini is located inside the gorgeous Radisson blu hotel on upper Columbus St The bar is visually stunning, the drinks are mixed well and the food id pretty and delicious. This resto is the perfect choice if you are attending a performance at the Harris theatre, for a quick bite or for a longer romantic meal in the upstairs dining room Lovely place"

  • "I have been involved in on-going construction projects at Millennium Park for several years now and find Filini to be a great place for lunch. It is convenient to Millennium Park and is not overrun by tourists. Service and food there has always been top notch. I highly recommend it to anyone. Have not had dinner there yet."

  • "Do yourself a favor and visit Fillipini in the Radison Blu hotel. The food alone will make you glad you did. A talented kitchen prepared a delicious meal of classic favorites with sophisticated ingredients and sensibility. To say I had soup and a salad does not do justice to the meal that left me longing to return. The bean soup was topped with fried kale and European bacon. The spinach salad featured small, very flavorable gourmet mushrooms and shaved Italian cheese, and was dressed with a fine olive oil. Add a glass of a delicious Italian red wine and you have a memorable meal. And Filini is worth visiting for its modern design as well. Among the notable features is a visually clever tile ceiling that makes the room conversation friendly."

  • "Located in the Radisson Blu hotel in the noteworthy Aqua Tower, this restaurant is worth visiting for the decor...and worth staying for to enjoy the nicely presented and delicious Italian menu items. The "quick lunch" option is a great deal and a nice way to sample some of the main courses that cost far more when ordered separately at either lunch or dinner."
