  • "For being located in the high rent district of TO you would think the owners would put every effort into delivering on the dinning experience. Not so. I had a business meeting with three others - when we walked in two things struck you - the over powering smell of bad seafood and how hot am humid it was inside - bad combo! Food was at best passable but certainly nothing worth going back for. My chicken dish with Indian spices was ok but the rice mush and pickled cauliflower were simply horrible. Come to think of it maybe this is why the place was almost completely empty. truly disappointing experience."

  • "the food and meal were nice but the music was a little loud for discussion at the table group of 5 and with 3 seniors they had trouble as the music was not just back ground level asked for the level of type to be changed to no avail. We were there early as had a show at 7:30pm. This is the only criticism"

  • "Went with a group of friends from work and we had a wonderful time. The restaurant was quiet and we were able to have a conversation with everyone at the table. Our server was attentive but not intrusive and the menu was was varied enough so all of our group found something on the menu to fit their tastes. We all enjoyed the food we ordered from the main to the dessert. We did not feel rushed by the wait staff and we lingered over our coffee and dessert talking away as some of us had not seen each other for quite some time. The restaurant was in the perfect location for those travelling by Go bus or TTC. We will definitely have our next group dinner there again."

  • "Went here for my boyfriends birthday. The place was a lot classier than i expected when I initially made reservations. Overall, our waiter Sebastian was very knowledgable. He was the only waiter on at the time so he was pretty busy and running around a little. Nevertheless, we were greeted, and there was never a moment where our waters were even half full. He was always there to refill them as soon as he noticed we even had a sip. Our food came quickly and it was pretty good. Be prepared for a very sparse selection on the menu though. I got the Salmon and my boyfriend got the Chicken. His was cooked perfectly. My salmon on the other hand failed to mention the spicy rub both in the menu description or by the waiter. Overall good time"

Also I asked for a quiet table in the room I had previously booked but was not given it. Also it is not very convenient to have the restrooms all the way downstairs. Also the host was too friendly!!"

  • "Met some friends we haven't seen in a couple of years, and the 4 of us enjoyed the good service and the delicious food as we caught up! Found it fairly expensive and honestly, a bit more that we would normally spend. However, that said, the meal was delicious and the servers took very good care of us. We particularly liked the atmosphere - was relaxing, yet elegant somehow - very pleasant. Would recommend. Convenient to downtown dwellers or financial district workers!"

  • "It always surprises me that restaurants that position themselves as a bit higher level don't provide the service to match the pricing! I got in with my bulky winter coat - the place was mostly empty, no one offered to take my coat so I through it in the booth beside me. My companion who arrived a bit late sat on a booth that was basically falling apart and he had to get up several times to move the seat cushion back. Service was inattentive - asked for pepper several times and no one came back. To get them to fill our water seemed a confusing request. Supper was lackluster - had the grouper which was rubbery and not that flavorful. Grouper should be sweet and flaky. Overcooked for sure. Overall, unimpressed for the price."

  • "Three friends and I went to Far Niente for dinner for Winterlicious 2014. The service we received was absolutely terrible. The waiter was rude, slow, unfriendly and not helpful. He was even rude to one of his own colleagues in front of us. About 2nd minutes after ordering the selection from the menu one of us asked to change our dessert order and he made it seem like it was impossible and the biggest task in the world. When I complained to management it was clear that this wasn't the first complaint that they had received about this particular waiter (Nick) but yet management did nothing to rectify the situation. Portions size were very small however the steak was cooked well Chocolate brownie for dessert was dry and tiny."

  • "Portions were large and delicious. The special for the day was the pan seared snapper. I was surprised with the portion, it was a regular 1 serving size snapper with couscous, sun dried tomatoes, and Chinese green veggies....delicious! I thoroughly enjoyed my vday lunch. My husband had the steak with frites. The steak was so juicy, tender, and sliced off easily. The frites were nothing special, we ordered it as a recommendation by our waiter, but it tasted like any normal homemade fries. The only warning I would have is if ordering water, be clear on whether you want tap or mineral water. The waiter will offer mineral water and assumes it's mineral water when you ask for just water. The water is Eska 750 ml for $7.50."

Service was slow, it would sometimes take 10 minutes to get a glass of wine after ordering it. The restaurant was probably 30% full and the music was so soft all you heard was dishes clashing. I would not go back to this restaurant."

  • "It was Valentine's Day and our waitress seemed overburdened with tables but there were several empty at the time She was very polite though. My guest and I sat several minutes at the table with water only before being asked about drinks. The food was very good and overall the warmth of the restaurant and the server... ambience, atmosphere etc made this first time experience a good one indeed."

The fish cake was superb and a generous serving for an appetizer - I liked the combinations of different fish. The steak was perfectly done for me - medium rare. Every person on the staff was pleasant, patient, courteous and always had a smile. I definitely plan to have lunch there again."

  • "My second time going there for Winterlicious as this is close to work. I was hoping to be pleasantly surprised but unfortunately, I would say it was closer to average. I had the fish cake, not bad actually, then the grouper a bit dry and lacking vegetables and the pear tartelette for dessert (not sure what the blue cheese adds so took it off). Overall, nothing that blew me away, just a good lunch. I did however appreciate the fact that they bring bread and butter!"

I know that winterlicous is a busy time but I couldn't help thinking that perhaps not selecting from the main menu was a factor in the lack of attention we received from our server. There was less attention overall from our server than on any previous visit (including prior lunchtime rush). As winterlicous is a chance for people to try new places I wouldn't be inclined to return based on the service we recived on Tuesday. We were not even asked if we wanted coffee with our desert, perhaps this was a result of us prefering water to ordering a beverage with our meal!"

  • "We went for Winterlicious. The server was wonderful. He was very personable and knew how to be there when needed without hovering. We were given ample time to decide what to order and were able to enjoy our drinks. The appetizer we chose was the trout, which was delicious. For the main, I had the chicken, which was very dry and the yogurt marinade was burned by the grilling. My guest had the steak frites, but for some reason was never asked how she wanted the steak cooked. It was just presented medium rare. The deserts were great. All things considered, it was good and I might go back again."

This time the ambience was nice as usual, the appetizers were fabulous, the desserts were very nice, and the main courses were good but not outstanding. The red snapper was a little less delicate than usual, and the Thai green curry was okay but not particulalry zesty or creative, which was a bit disappointing. So overall very nice but the mains could have been better and were not up to par. Service was superb; we were pampered."

  • "I normally encourage the people i work with to go for winterlicious or summerlious so that they can try different menus and stuff. We enjoyed the food we had and the atmosphere, the sevice is a bit slow this time. Just want to say thank Far Niente to be part of the winterlicious. Thank you."
