Diner Reviews
  • "Benn, Justin and Hannah took such great care of us and made our night one to remember."

  • "We have been visiting Snowmass for more than 20 years. This was our first visit to the relatively new Eight K restaurant at the Viceroy. We had a wonderful dinner - we both had steak that was cooked perfectly. The Lyonaisse Potatoes were delicious as was the sticky toffee pudding. Our service was also very professional and appropriate. The server did not address us as "guys" - which is a pet peeve of mine. My only complaint was the cocktails - my $16 specialty cocktail was so-so, and contained way more ice than any other ingredient. My husband's scotch as also more ice than scotch."

  • "My wife's bouillabaisse was very good. My red snapper was good but the risotto at the bottom of the plate was soaking in butter."

  • "The best dining experience in Snowmass. Food was very tasty and well presented. Service was friendly and efficient but not rushed. Will certainly dine there again when in Snowmass."

  • "Excellent food and service in a classic setting. A real gem in Snowmass Village."

  • "30 Minutes to get a drink when sitting in bar area waiting to be seated. A good 15 minutes for a waitress to come over after being seated. Have tons of wine bottles on display which adds a nice ambience but didn't have a bunch of common bottles in stock. All and all they seed overwhelmed and weren't that busy. Was disappointed."

  • "This was our third visit to 8K. Once again we were struck by the overwhelming number of young children. Fortunately, although we had reserved a "romantic table" we found a much better table in the bar area away from the kids. In the past the food was exquisite. This visit was extremely disappointing. Nothing we ordered was very special and not even cooked properly. My wife''s salmon was overdone (she had not even been asked how she wanted it) and my beef filet was a little overdone as well. For the money, 8K has turned into a loser. On the plus side, the physical environment remains exceedingly wonderful. Nevertheless, this was our last visit."

  • "The best Steak in aspen snowmass - really - but the service was really bad. No attention."

  • "Food was exceptionally good however service was substandard in all aspects. Front of house management quite uncaring and took no responsibility, just excuses that they were 'busy'. For a restaurant that serves $70 a la carte steaks, the service should match how well the kitchen performs. Courses should not be rushed. Course #3 should not come down on top of courses #1 & #2, especially when the previous two are not finished and plates are piling up on the table. Management must never say they are too busy to provide good service nor should the diners ever be told they need to hurry so the table can be cleared for the next booking less than an 45 minutes into the meal. At $200 a head, customer treatment must at least equal Applebee's."

  • "Football in the bar. Food was okay. Son had the $75 buffalo ribeye. Different. Good steak house."

  • "With the exception of the braised short rib pasta, which had very little short rib, the food was excellent. We had the elk chop served hot, juicy, fabulous bordelaise sauce. The creamed spinach and bacon Kale were both outstanding sides. The "tid bits" we're a fun idea and quite tasty. However, we sat for well over an hour waiting on the first bite. Then, we waited another 30 mins for main courses. The restaurant comped some wine and apologized. Our waitress was very good, but could.not get food from the kitchen."
    Dined on 12/21/2013
  • "My only complaint is that even after I specifically asked the waitress to space our dinner and appetizers, we were still given no more than 4-5 minutes between courses."

  • "This is a beautiful restaurant -- glitzy and lively. Food is creative and varied . Several choices for vegetarians, too. However, where it has fallen down every time is on SERVICE. The servers, hostesses, etc are just not up to snuff for a white table cloth , expensive restaurant. It is probably not their fault -- they need training. Repeatedly every time we go there, we have to ask for our drinks while we see them sitting on the bar, ask for bread, etc. It is inexcusable and makes us think twice about returning. Food does compensate for it but I never would take client, business accociate, out of town guest, etc"

  • "We love Eight K, it has all the elegance and quality you expect from an Aspen restaurant and the comfort and comfortable attitude you expect at Snowmass plus that view. That view is the flip side of the Snowmass ski area which is equally spectacular in summer as winter, with gorgeous peaks and glorious greens. Hard to imagine anything more beautiful or better background to a meal. The menu is great with a lot of variety, a great selection of local ingredients, well prepared and elegantly served. The “cochon de lait” andouille-stuffed smoked pork loin and pan-roasted alaskan halibut were superb, the jambalaya-stuffed mississippi quail a treat, as was everything we tasted. The wine list was odd, but there were bottles worth finding."

  • "We go to 8K every time we come to town. They are always so accommodating for my hard to please family of 5. It's a little pricey but worth every penny. Order the spicy edamame. It's not on the menu anymore but they'll still make it!"

  • "We had previously been a bit "ho-hum" about the menu at this fine-looking restaurant since it opened. But the new menu makes it a true shining start in the roaring fork valley. All four of us loved our courses. I started with an oyster shooter (I could have had a half dozen) and a deviled egg. Outstanding. My entree was a special- smoked pork ribeye (yes, ribeye, on the bone) with a terrific BBQ sauce, all on top of sweet potato purée. We' ve been to a lot of restaurants from Carbondale to Aspen, and highly recommend this one."

  • "Loved the hush puppy and oyster shooter but way overpriced at $5 each. Gumbo bland and jambalaya inside quail didn't work for us. Kitchen needs tuning. Enthusiastic service helps. And the room is comfortable."

  • "We spent a week in Snowmass and canceled a reservation on Sunday. I made another reservation for our last night. If we had gone earlier, we would have had more meals there. The restaurant and view were stunning. Our server (Kate) was professional, helpful, and fun. We had a specialty barrel-aged Manhattan that was a fabulous cocktail. We shared appetizers - they were enough for three of us to each have a taste, which was plenty considering the generous entree sizes. The deviled egg and "PB&J" surprise were both outstanding. At dinner we had elk, the stuffed bacon cheeseburger, and halibut. They were flexible with sides. The best thing was the desserts - ice cream bar with salted caramel and cheesecake. Too few characters to describe. Yum!"

  • "The food was creative and fantastic; the server (Katie?) was personable, helpful and attentive; and the atmosphere is romantic and vibrant. We will head back every time we are in the Snowmass/Aspen area!"

  • "This place is a little slice of heaven! We have been going to aspen for years and all of the Restaurants have been good but we haven't found One that has been great- well that has FINALLY changed! 8K really is phenomenal, Will Nolan lives up to his name and Everything on the menu was great and we tried it all! The wine list was also top notch and not overpriced like most in aspen. He went out of his way to make our evening perfect for my husbands Birthday. Thanks to the staff and everyone there! We will be back!"

  • "Make sure you try the shrimp and grits. The chef is from New Orleans and he brings that style to the food. Our meal was so good I wish I could go every weekend. Try it out if you are in town. :)"

  • "Wonderful restaurant with great food and exceptional service. We loved Katie and all of the staff. Everyone was friendly and attentive. The restaurant is elegant without being pretentious. Loved the large chairs and pillows. The peanut butter pretzel cake was awesome. I had read a review about being seated next to noisy families, but the restaurant is very spacious and has great acoustics. Much better than so many noisy places that require you to shout to your table mate."

  • "REALLY slow service. Beautiful restaurant. Go for a drink but be careful about dinner. Definitely don't arrive hungry because service is slow."

  • "Only one problem-we expected a romantic dinner and were seated next to a family with two very small and very annoying Children. This despite many other empty tables . Otherwise, food service and decor were superlative."

  • "Ate here Christmas and couldn't wait to get back spring break. Wow what a let down. Not nearly as good this time, must have changed chefs or something. Snapper was way under cooked, veal was plan and doughnuts on favorite dessert were hard and old or over cooked. Great waiting staff, service is always great, but the food has to be better for their prices!!!"

  • "The food was good but the service was extremely slow to the point that it ruined the experience."

  • "We tried 8K for the first time this winter, looking for something in Snowmass, rather than traveling to Aspen as we always have done in the past. It was good, but not great. The dining room is open to the bar area and as a result pretty noisy--difficult to have a conversation at our rather large table for eight. Some of our orders were great--some just OK. I had a pasta with truffles that used a LOT of truffles, but really wasn't especially well flavored in spite of that. Others in the group enjoyed their meals, but no one was raving. Service was very well-intended, but seemed that there were too few waitstaff around to really attend to detail and take care of the number of tables each had. I'll keep going to Aspen"

  • "Excellent food and service. One of the best restaurants in the Roaring Fork valley and equal to the very best in Aspen or any other city."

  • "We have eaten at 8K many times this year. The food has always been good as it was this time. However, the service the night that we went was horrible. First, we were seated and then waited 15 minutes for a waiter to come over for drink orders. Second, the waiter gave the wrong order for one of our drinks to the bartender --- twice. We were told "no bread until the appetizers come out" which took about 20 minutes after ordering. Odd, since they were only salads. Then we waited almost 30 minutes for our main courses. After complaining we were told that "our order was being moved up to the front." The food was good but the experience was horrible. Although it is a "neighboorhood place" for us, I'm sure that we won't rush back."

  • "With a new menu.... 8K might be one of the best in Aspen."
    Dined on 1/23/2013
  • "Amazing presentation. Chef Nolan has managed to combine the taste of New Orleans with his french education. The stuffed fried chicken was a first for me."

  • "Our second dining experience at EightK. Service has improved dramatically. Great wine list. My husband had the rack of elk which was superb. After ski at the Nest, the poolside restaurant, is also fabulous."

  • "This was a very acceptable experience though it definitely felt like a resort hotel restaurant. I live part of the year in Snowmass Village and generally go into Aspen for restaurant dining. This is not likely to compete strongly with that but I will certainly return and it is at the top of the list for SV. One specific note. On the evening that I was there, the bar was very understaffed. The sole barman did a heroic and cheerful job but he needed at least one other colleague (I gave him a generous tip in recognition that it was not his fault). Table service was very good."

  • "Worst waiter I ever had in a restruant of this quality in Aspen and when presented with an automatic twenty present tip I was offended, I think it was easy for the waiter to be less tha involved because he he wold get a big tip on a big bill."

  • "We came early to enjoy a drink at the stylish bar and were not disappointed. Very stylish and welcoming environment, great drinks, friendly service in bar and restaurant. All staff were exceptionally helpful and friendly. The food didn't quite live up to our expectations and was expensive. We enjoyed the soft shell crab risotto but the elk was strangely bland although very tender. The potato gnocchi were burnt which overpowered the flavour of the fresh truffle slices. We had a very well priced bottle of Cloudy Bay which was delicious. The Viceroy provided a complimentary ride home to our hotel which was unexpected and very welcome."
