A word from Edmund's Oast
Why Edmund's Oast?

The “Edmund” in the name comes from Edmund Egan, who began producing beer in Charleston after emigrating from England in the 1760s. "Oast” is a kiln used in the drying of hops.

My friend and I went here for a Saturday night dinner. We were seated at the chef's table which had the benefit of a free starter as well as watching all the food being prepared. The waitress was very helpful and attentive and the food was fantastic. We had the watermelon starter, the cheese plate, tuna crudo, lamb meatballs and the brownies for dessert. I really enjoyed all the dishes and would love to come back to try more!

We had an amazing dinner at Edmund's Oast! We grazed, tapas style, while seated at the Chef's table (a bar-type counter overlooking the extremely organized and efficient kitchen). The service was spectacular, as was the food. We will go back the next time we visit Charleston.

Some of our food was outstanding, like the Pickled Shrimp and the Ricotta cheese. Others were good, like the Charcuterie and pickled veggies but the entrees were rather disappointing and the peanuts were boring. Fish was overdone, which was a shame because the flavor was nice and the boiled peanuts tasted like run of the mill peanuts only cooked poorly. Great Beer list.

The service was a little slower than usual on this day, but not even enough to make much difference. As always, the staff was polite and accommodating and the food was above and beyond wonderful. The chefs never disappoint. And, when making reservations, I got several call backs just to make sure all was as I wanted it. I could not ask for a better dining experience, and this is without a doubt my favorite restaurant in Charleston.

I almost don't want to say how mucho like this place because I don't want it to get busy, but I want it to do well so I'll speak the truth. Coming from Seattle I'm used to bars/restaurants with this kind of foodie feel. Charleston is growing and featuring more of these restaurants and Edmund's Oast is doing a good job. The atmoshpere is hip and warm, staff is friendly and helpful, tons of beer on tap, but it's the kind of place for a formal date. I wish they had more on their brunch menu but other than that they are doing pretty much everything I love.

We found Edmund's Oast after it was mentioned in a NY Times piece, & were not disappointed! Sat at the chef's table, which gave us a chance to check out all the dishes & not just ours. Pickled shrimp appetizer was delicious & refreshing. Beer list eclectic & extensive. Entrees cooked perfectly, w/ yummy side veggies (we had the chicken & the red snapper). Panna cotta for dessert, just the right size, creamy & topped w/ fresh mint. Our server was polite, attentive, & made good suggestions. Had a wonderful evening, & are already planning on going back before we leave town.

We were seated at the "chef's table", essentially a bar facing the kitchen, without being asked if that was our preference. We were told there would be a wait for a regular table, even though we reserves via Open Table. When I told the too-familiar server I had a garlic allergy, he rolled his eyes and asked about my symptoms. Low level or professionalism. The fiod ( tuna tartar, eggplant salad, roast snapper) was ok but not as refined as expected.

We were seated at a large, high table in the center. The minute you sit on the seat, it compresses to an unusual degree. The result is the average height woman (5'6") ends up with the table top too near her shoulders. My father looked like a small child needing a phone book as a booster. The $29 steak was good but there was not much to it. The eggplant entree was a few charred veggies on a purée. Blah. Our waiter never smiled or explained the offerings. After a good first meal a couple of weeks ago, we returned for an uninspired second evening. Hope this place works out its issues. Even Southern Living can't save a too-expensive place with a spotty WOM reputation when it is off the main tourist drag.

Came for Sunday brunch. Really limited menu. Had to wait thirty inured for our table past reservation time. Ordered appetizers and then when we ordering our main courses were informed as an after thought that two of the items on the already limited menu were sold out. Won't be coming back.

Booked reservation for two. Got to restraunt and was escorted to seat at the kitchen counter. Asked hostess, "are you kidding me, we've got a reservation." She said they had no tables avail. Food was awesome, service was good. But, I'm on a date with my wife and sitting at the kitchen counter, next to the service door just doesn't cut it. Never got a visit from the manager, he was busy chatting up the people at tables!! No apologies. No remorse. We love the food at this place. Unfortunately we can't recommend it unless you're willing to be treated as a walk-in.

I have now been to Edmonds Oast a number of times as it's one of my favorite places to eat, drink beer, and talk. The extensive beer menu is clearly the highlight and the wait staff is very knowledgable about the different offerings. Created open table reservation for 2 but I called to ask if it's possible to increase it to four and they said it should be fine. Our reservation was for 8pm but we were not seated until 8:30pm. They were very apologetic and offered us a free round of drinks while we were waiting, so that was nice. The appetizers we selected were good and interesting and our entrees were good. I think I was expecting too much due to reviews I've heard and read, so the bar was already set very high and I was slightly disappointed. It was good overall though, it's just that we are very spoiled here in Charleston when it comes to good restaurants.

Edmund's Oast is not well marked from the road and is easily missed. The parking is especially good, the patio is very attractive and the interior of the restaurant felt more like a restaurant in Jackson Wy with its light wood furnishings and wooden ceilings. It is very attractive and large. We ordered five items, the wait staff was friendly and efficient with the dishes being served at the right temperature and the presentation was attractive. The lamb meatballs were moist but too sweet, the flounder ($27) was very dry. The ham and pear salad was good but not exceptional in any way. With some tweaks in the kitchen, this could become a foodie hotspot-go for drinks but wait to have a $100 dinner when kitchen is a little smoother.
