Divino Wine & Cheese Bistro, part of Canadian Rocky Mountain Resorts family of restaurants (crmr.com) remains an icon for downtown diners. Now in its 15th year, Divino continues to entertain patrons in the historic Calgary Wine and Spirits building on the Stephen Avenue Walk (8th Avenue S.W.).

Everyone's meal was excellent - we all stuck to pasta and everyone enjoyed their dish. We took the chef's selection of cheese and we were very happy with the choices. Highly recommended."

  • "This is a great place to go on a date, or just to meet with friends or family for drinks, appetizers and/or dinner. If you like wine and cheese, this restaurant has plenty of options for both. The atmosphere is beautiful - relaxing, dark and quiet. The service is outstanding. I would recommend this to anyone!"

  • "Excellent wine list; amazing appetizers; extraordinary service; the best cappuccino I have ever had; but unfortunately all the positives were lost with the horrible lamb sirloin! First time it was burnt on the outside, fatty, chewy & not medium rare on the inside. Second time they panned seared it which eliminated the dirty grill taste but certainly didn't solve the meat quality issue. Lamb sirloin should be one of the best cuts of lamb & this was the worst piece of lamb I have ever had. I suggest that they give their grill a good scrubbing & possibly change their lamb supplier. my wife's salmon was great but unfortunately the only thing I will remember about Divino is the lamb & the lack of concern evidenced by everyone but our server."

  • "We found the atmosphere too dark, it was hard to see our food. I ordered the lamb sirloin. The parsnip puree and truffled brussle sprouts were delicious. Unfortunately, my meat was very chewy with large amounts of chewy fat and gristle. Because of the very dim lighting, it was hard to see our food and cut around any unsavory parts of the meat. Our appetizer and dessert was also good, but didn't stand out as a reason for us to return."

Always enjoy an evening out here but best saved for a Romantic Interlude or a very special Occasion!The pricing is on the higher range and therefore should be reserved for just a few outings a year. Amazing Ravioli, the Duck was very good and a special Fish main made the evening complete ...."

  • "We had a nice dinner on our way to the theatre. The staff were prompt and efficient. One of the waitress's first questions was ' Do you have a theatre event or time commitment?" Nice! Dinner was very pleasant. Manitoba Pickerel was fantastic. A mussels appetizer served up with parmesan frites was wonderful as well."

  • "Divino’s always has exceptional quality food. Portion sizes vary - my lunch of trout was tiny, and I went back to work still hungry, while my colleague had the meatball sandwich and couldn’t finish, it was so substantial; uncool, especially when the trout cost a lot more. Speaking of cost, I think it’s a crime to charge for water! The server brought two open bottles to our table, one carbonated, one not: we both asked for still water, which she poured and came back to top up a couple of times; we figured it was tap water. Quite a surprise see a charge of $2 each for water on our bill - the cost is irrelevant; the concept is offensive. Atmosphere at Divino’s is nice and we were back to work within an hour, which is good for business."

  • "As usual the food was great. We had the special, steel head with veggies and goat cheese cake and tiramisu for dessert. A glass of Blue Mountain pinot grigio from the Okanagan was delicious. The hostess was not especially friendly, no smile, just took us to our table. Waitress ditto. Her service was good, but she was just doing her job and waiting for the evening to end kind of attitude. If only these young people would ever have a chance to eat at a Michelin star restaurant in France they would understand that besides their tip, clients deserve better, i.e. respect."

  • "We arrived early and were seated without a problem. Children in our party had a few basic options but menu caters to more adult tastes. All dishes were well prepared and taste as well as presentation was wonderful. Server lacked warmth or usual welcoming feeling one normally receives at Divino- not a usual experience for us."

  • "I had eaten at Divinos a few times before, but always for lunch...so I knew what to expect. The soft lighting and the warm atmosphere are very inviting and comfortable. I ordered the Lobster Canneloni and my date ordered the Hare Gnocci...and we had the mussels to start. I feel the mussels were the best part of the meal, as the broth was to die for...However, I don't undertand why they serve fries on the side...don't get me wrong, the fries are fine but they almost seem to cheapen the experience of the mussels."

  • "I've been the Divino a few times and I've never been tremendously impressed with the menu, but the haricot vert always keeps me coming back. I now have a new opinion of the menu - oh my goodness it was amazing! I started with the green beans, of course, which are consistently amazing - crispy, vibrant, and a delicious mustard dipping sauce to accompany. For my entrée I had the bison tenderloin, and it was FANTASTIC! Appropriately sweet cherry jus drizzled on perfectly cooked tenderloin, both of which were complimented by the creamy mashed potatoes. The best part is the brazed bison, though - so tender and flavorful! My husband had a fish feature dish that was pretty bland and a terribly tiny portion of fish, so fed him some of my meal."

  • "My wife and I arrived in Calgary on lark and totally unprepared. We walked by the restaurant (a half block from our hotel) while checking out the neighborhood, saw the menu, and were hooked. A huge choice of cheeses to choose from for appetizers, extensive wine (and spirits) menu, My wife had fois gras ravioli and a lobster bisque cannelloni. The ravioli, she swears, is the best thing she has EVER eaten (I'll concur that it was awesome). I had a seared ahi nicoise salad and rabbit gnocci. The gnocci beat the cannelloni, but both were good. Excellent, service, ambiance and reasonably priced considering the quality of the food."

  • "Divino was devine! ... a lovely evening with great friends and great food .. appetizers, main meal, desserts, cheese board and wine ..nothing disappointed us.. fresh, colourful and served hot ... ... all wonderful. Server was very attentive but not overbearing, she made good suggestions without pushing anything in particular .. we arrived for our reservation and were promptly seated and we never felt rushed to finish our meal or linger over our cappuccinos .. only issue was the lighting is very very low and thank goodness for cell phones with a flashlight app ...would definitely return and a real treat for us suburbanites who rarely eat downtown .."

  • "Service was slow and the waitress didn't smile and was very indifferent about serving us. I ordered the lobster cannaloni and my wife ordered the lamb. My cannaloni had no flavour of lobster, was not seasoned and one of the cannaloni was burnt. Ate one and sent the plate back. My wife's lamb was well done not medium as requested. No seasoning and only flavour was in the sauce. Although they didn't charge me for my dish, I still would not go back. It would have made a difference if the server was a bit more friendly and attentive."

  • "The presentation was great, the service was very good. Our food had obviously been sitting a few minutes, as it was not hot, it was bordering on cold. My steak was huge, but had a few bad grisly spots. My wife ordered a glass of port to go with the amazing cheese plate, but there was something wrong with it, it tasted almost like vinegar. The bartender assured us it was fine, but did not hesitate to replace it with another choice. We have been there before, and we will definitely go back."

  • "This was our first visit to Divino. I really liked the energy of the room on a busy weekday lunch. Our server Larin was friendly, attentive and really helpful with our questions regarding the wine list and menu. We started with the Foie Gras Ravioli and the Deep fried Hericot Verts and both were amazing. This was quickly followed by our choices of the Lobster Canneloni and the Pickerel dish. I really enjoyed the Pickerel Dish but I think my wife's choice of the Lobster pasta was the real winner. Looking forward to trying it out for dinner."

  • "We choose Divino as we hadn't been here before, the menu looked appealing and we were celebrating a special occasion. Indeed, there is quite a range of wines and beer, and almost as many cheeses! The tempura haricot verts (green beans) were really good! And our server was accomodating of a special request/change to the menu order. Overall it was a nice night but it is a bit pricey. Considering it was a Tuesday evening, our server was a bit absent as we were waiting on her to notice that we needed something more (drink, bill, dessert order, etc.). We may go back but for the price, we also know we have some more attentive neighborhood gems that are very equivalent in the food quality/options."

The waiter was pretty much non existant - it was like getting blood from a stone just to get a second cup of coffee and have our water glasses refilled.   • "I am so disappointed in Divino. I have been coming since the first month it opened and this week I had booked a lunch for my boss and another executive as Divino is normally consistent and a great place for a business lunch. I booked at least a week in advance. When we arrived we were seated at the very back of the restaurant. The service was prompt at first but quickly fell off. We ordered at 12:20 and received our food at 12:55. The fish was a few tiny pieces and was overcooked. All of the meals appeared to have been sitting far too long at the pass through as they were all cold. I am done with Divino."

  • "We stopped in at Divino for lunch and were pleasantly surprised with the excellent experience we had. The service was prompt and friendly, we ordered the Meatball Focaccia sub and the Lobster Cannelloni. The Meatball Focaccia was excellent, the portion size was ideal for a lunch and the flavour was perfect. The Lobster Cannelloni tasted very good, but the portion size could have been a little bigger as the Cannelloni was small, so maybe add another Cannelloni to the plate. Other than that everything was positive."

  • "Love this restaurant but featured dishes are often not nearly the same quality of ingredients and flavors as the main menu dishes. For example, I had the Lyonnaise salad which is a wonderful blend of tastes and textures. Next I had a scallop and pea and spicy sausage dish that was not at all what I expected: it had tiny tasteless scallops, not enough peas, and extra spicy sausage strips that killed the dish! I'll stick to the main menu next time."
