Diners should be aware there is not an a la carte menu for parties of 5 and larger. A 5 course Il Menu Del Posto and an 8 course Captain's menu are available for these parties.

Del Posto is the first Italian restaurant in almost 40 years to be awarded 4 stars from the New York Times. Del Posto is the ultimate expression of what an Italian restaurant should be. We can best be described as an evolution of cuisines, menus, service, and ambiance that have characterized the history of the Italian dining experience in this country. Celebrate Italian viticulture with Del Posto's Wine Director Jeff Porter, on Saturdays from 1pm to 2pm. 5 wines for $5, now through Labor Day. Del Posto respectfully requests that gentlemen refrain from wearing shorts, sandals, sleeveless, and baseball caps. Most men choose to wear jackets, but jackets are not required.

  • "I love this restaurant. It is our favorite. What we really do not like is how difficult it is to get reservations after 5:00 pm and before 9:00pm. We have the feeling that they keep many tables open hoping that hotels will send their customers there. It took us 6 months to finally find an opening at 8:00 pm. They must do a much better job at making easier to book a table."

  • "This is still one of the best deals for a superior lunch ever! Three courses of michelin 3 star food for $40 plus tax and tip. I had the vitello tonato, slow cooked salmon (to die for) and the semolina cake for dessert. They also give you an amuse bouche to start and mignardises after dessert. The space is wonderful and calm, the service is superb, and they they have a live piano player. If you feel really, really hungry there is a 6 course tasting menu also available. Have never tried the wine selections since I can't drink at lunch but I am sure they are as wonderful as the food. Probably really pricey also."

  • "Menu offers choices betweem (pricey) prix fixe dinners and (pricey) ala carte dinners. Portions are on the small side, particularly considering the prices, but the food is exquisitely good. The service was very attentive without being overbearing, and the 2 level restaurant is gorgeous. Also worth mentioning is that the low noise level allows easy conversation, and there was plenty of space between tables. We ate there on a Saturday night when Del Posto was full - yet it did not feel at all crowded."

  • "We chose Del Posto to celebrate our daughter's birthday, and had a truly memorable dining experience. We enjoyed the five course dinner menu. All the courses were delicious and well sized, so while we felt as if we had a full meal we did not feel stuffed or wanting more. The service was attentive and first class. Having heard that one of our party suffered from gluten intolerance, they brought gluten free bread which the recipient stated was the best she had ever tasted! While the meal was not inexpensive, it was definitely worth it. Highly recommend Del Posto, especially for special occasions!"

  • "Our party of four had a wonderful dining experience here on Sat. night. We all did the 8 course tasting menu and two of us did the wine pairing. We were seated at a very private table in the front corner of the restaurant. The dining room was beautiful, the service impeccable and the food was beautifully presented and absolutely delicious. every detail was attended to. We were there for 4 hours! I couldn't recommend this restaurant more if you are looking for an elegant place to dine. It is expensive, but well worth it."

  • "I'm a huge foodie and the 8 course captain's dinner delivered. They ask questions about what you like and develop a menu for you, bringing out each round as a surprise. The sommelier was fantastic and found a white Pinot noir that was one of the best white wines I've ever had, followed by a Brut rose champagne to pair with both seafood and chicken, it worked perfectly. Any raving I could do about the quality of the food wouldn't be enough. This was hands down the best meal I have ever had in New York City."

  • "this was our 4th time dining at del posto and unfortunately it will be the last. dining at del posto should be an outstanding experience with outstanding food and service. we were not impressed with the whispered description of the menu and each item we were served. it was pretentious. one had to be a wine expert to go through the iPad listing of wines. once the sommelier knows the type of wine you prefer a suitable bottle should be offered. this was not done. 2 of us ordered the lobster - it was tough and rubbery. there was an error with the pasta orders. it was quickly remedied but we found the lasagne to be a disappointment. it was not fresh and the sauce was dry and over done. please improve."

It was en entire evening of good food, wine, company, and, most importantly, a night to remember. The most memorable dish was the pasta with shaved truffles. Divine doesn't do it justice."

  • "Booked for my parents party of 6, which included 4 grandkids. "Thank you for making reservations at Del Posto. Please be aware that upon arrival for dinner, parties of five or larger are required to select either a 5 course or 8 course prix-fixe menu. The 5 course menu includes 5 courses for $126 per guest. The 8 course Captain’s menu is $179 per guest" said the confirmation, however the incredibly pushy server extorted my parents into buying them all Captain's menu and as a result $1300 later my parents were incredibly disappointed in such a rude server who makes grandkids the eldest of which is 13 do a degustation! Yes, I will be back during my annual trip in August, but can only hope the pitiful service is rectified for future visits."

  • " We were here on 7-10 for my wife's birthday. Bill for our party of four without tip was $1468.00. That included 2 bottles of vintage champagne, 1 good Itallian red and 4 mixed drinks. We all had the 5 course dinner that includes an appetizer, 2 pasta courses, a main course and desert. We also had shaved black truffle on 2 of the pasta dishes. In all, without exception, all the good was outstanding. I have need to Del Posto maybe 5 times in the last 5 years, and it's always great with over the top service. Best bet is try to have someone else pick up the check."

We did the 5 course tasting menu with wine pairing, which is the best way to go. The wines were presented and the choices explained in context of the food; a truly fabulous way to enjoy a meal. Out of our group of 6, I have several severe food allergies, the chef and wait staff were extremely accomodating. I highly recommend Del Posto for a special occasion or anytime you feel like treating yourself to a wonderful dining experience."

The ambiance and service is very old fashioned (they even have a guy playing piano in there) so it is quite formal. The food is classic Italian but with a few interesting touches (Similar to Marea).   • "We were there for my husband's birthday dinner on last weekend and we couldn't have picked a better place to celebrate this special occasion. Our server was amazing. The food was really really good and to top it off the ambiance was excellent. The restaurant was so kind enough to accommodate my request for a corner table and also my special food request. Our server was very knowledgeable about the food and gave us the right information in a very friendly and warm manner. This restaurant is a must if you want your dinning experience to be more than just good food."

Great atmosphere, good service but food dishes and quality was average and overall quite disappointing especially for the price point, I.e. We did 8 course prifixe at $179/person. Lasagne dish was the highlight and best dish but some of the other dishes were strange and not typical std Italian fare with weird spicy tangy sauces used by the chef and entree dish of nuts, beans not to our liking. Dessert too buttery instead of clean to the palate. Great Atmosphere but not so great food. Overpriced for what you get for your money."

  • "We enjoy wine with our dinner and it is part of the experience. However, this turned out to be a problem. The wine list was ridiculously expensive. We are not willing to spend hundreds and thousands of dollars on wine. The wine pourers were not so friendly after we ordered a less expensive wine. Our waiter, Andre, was terrific. The ambience was great. We were greeted warmly when we entered. You have to order one antipasti, 2 pastas for the table, an entree and dessert. Two pastas, plus antipasti, was too much for an appetizer. We were full by the time the entree came. We ate a little of everything, and did not want dessert. They insisted on bringing 3 desserts, plus a box of desserts with different tastes."

  • "We love Italian food! Del Posto was on every Italian restaurant list we researched and, it delivered as promised! Beautiful restaurant with added elegance from the piano playing in the background. we had fixed price menus (6 of us) and opted for the chef's 8 course table tasting. Each course was beautifully presented and delicious! Service was fantastic! One of the few NYC restaurants we will definitely return to on future visits! It IS VERY expensive, but if you're looking for a special evening (we were celebrating our son's graduation) it's awesome! Probably would opt for the fixed price menu that allows each diner to choose appetizer, shared pastas, main course and dessert next time. That way you get most of what you want!"
