A word from Cured
Cured – chef Steve McHugh’s first and highly anticipated gatropub opened December 2013 in the century-old building that once belonged to the president’s headquarters of the famed Pearl Brewing Company. This seasoned chef spent ten years in New Orleans as chef de cuisine for chef John Besh followed by two years at Lüke in San Antonio. Yet, his most sterling achievement has been beating cancer. After such a life-changing triumph, McHugh set out to open Cured, giving it a name that speaks to his feat as well as the artisanal cured meats hanging in view. It was with this purity of ingredients and hands-on methodology that enhanced his own healing process. This from-scratch, seasonal focus finds its to menu items like Sweet Potato Agnolotti with Bourbon Brown Sugar & Sage and Slow Cooked Heritage Hog with Smoked Andouille & Okra. McHugh has found a way to implement “gastronomic giving” by donating $1 from every charcuterie board order to a different charity each quarter.Continued

  • "The food was flavorful, the ambiance was nice, the service was excellent. Our biggest qualm was that we left hungry. The portions were less than filling. Maybe we ordered three small items (although two were supposed to be entree size). Basically, we wouldn't want to go back to spend a ton of money on dinner if we end the night hungry. Also (and we can't speak to this because we didn't order the items), stick with what they are playing up .... It is a restaurant that excels in meat and charcuterie. That is probably the way to go."

  • "We went to cured 2 nights ago and are still talking about how delicious it was. It is good to come with an open mind and leave the diet at home. The food and the service are outstanding. This was my third time there and it was great. Also, the Cured cocktail is delish."

  • "Overall it was ok. We had a 5:00 reservation and about ten minutes in the fire alarm started going off due to an AC repair. That lasted for 15-20 minutes and we had to relocate outside until the fire department cleared the alarm. It wasn't the end of the world and the manager apologized but you would think they would have offered an appetizer or dessert....something. Otherwise the service was really great and our server made spot-on suggestions. A few things on the bar menu weren't available. The charcuterie was magnificent! We all wished we had just ordered that, skipped the entree and had dessert. We all agreed we would go back, and give it a second chance."

  • "We selected Cured to celebrate my father's 80th birthday. It was a real treat for all. The beer, wine, and cocktail selection had something for everyone. Wes, our waiter was great at explaining the menu. His service manner was exceptional. The food, beginning with the charcuterie, was outstanding and well priced for the quality and variety. I will be going back to try more items or for cocktails and appetizers. *Note* You do need to make a reservation well in advance in order to select the time you want. I highly recommend Cured."

She was extremely knowledgeable and helpful explaining different things about the food and just providing an overall pleasant dining experience. The food unique and delicious. A perfect combination was the vealwurst with the picked cucumbers that provided the perfect blend of meatiness and the refreshing crunch of cucumber or the unctuous pork rillettes which leaves you wanting for more. Perfectly cooked fish (though my dining companion thought the portion size could have been larger), excellent tartar (though this was too finely ground and was a bit gluey because of that) and a perfect gumbo, especially made fabulous by corn muffins with pork butter. Black rice pudding provided the perfect end with a touch of chewy nuttiness balanced well with peach and raspberries which refreshed your palate."

  • "Very interesting restaurant experience. My wife and I had our monthly date night and wanted to try something different. Cured definitely met the bill. Very interesting dishes on the menu. We kind of worked our way thru the menu by sharing appetizers, salads and a couple of entrees. We are very adventurous when it comes to food. So we look for items we have never had before and that was easy to do with the menu at Cured. Don't know how many times we looked at each other and stated "That's Good". Of course they offer several safe dishes for those less adventurous, but if you want a neat experience and try something a little different, make a reservation and get over there. Place fills up real fast."

Everything that came to our table was first rate (plus some). We would loved to have had a cheese plate with the charcuterie, but kinda crazy -- they don't have cheese. Without cheese in a place like this, I regretfully had to give it 4 Stars for "Food" and "Overall," which is unfortunate 'cause this place is 5 Stars across the board. If you're not a cheese lover, you'll love this place. If you are a cheese lover, I'd hold out for a menu change, as I am certain they'll straighten out this most obvious shortcoming on the menu."

Everything was fresh (some items bought at the Pearl Farmers Market that morning), quite tasty, with good portion sizes. The beer menu was extensive with a lot of local craft brews to choose from. My husband had the short rib ravioli and it was a work of art. The meat melted in you mouth and the rainbow chard with asparagus foam completed the entire plate. Don't forget to buy the kitchen staff a 6 pack of pearl."

  • "I tried 3 of the charcuterie and the hamburger. I did not enjoy the pate, not very flavorful. The pork belly was tasty and the spring sausage was ok. The hamburger was rather plain. The bread pudding desert was very nice. The wine, a zinfandel was the star of the meal. I was with a friend and we also had coffee. The refills were cold. I have been here once before, but just had a drink at the bar and wanted very much to come back and try the food. The architecture and ambance are quite lovely. I will probably go back again, but only to the bar to have a drink and perhaps try some snacks for Happy Hour."

  • "We had read numerous reviews of Cured since it opened and decided to check it out for our anniversary. Wow! The charcuterie is stunning. We wanted to try everything but decided on a chicken liver mousse, the pork country style pate and a third item which was also pork. We tried the oysters with pickled tapioca as well. (Seriously some of the best oysters of my life!) We closed out the night with a beet and citrus salad and the fried chicken livers. Everything was delicious. The kitchen takes it's job seriously but doesn't take itself too seriously. The produce is super fresh, the meats are so flavorful and definitely order a seasonal cocktail. "
