Diner Reviews
  • "very nice place with beautiful food presentation. attentive service and modern setting. not sure I like the open kitchen idea. clattering pans is not a high end experience. lots of hard surfaces so the noise level is an issue with me."

  • "Our group of four women celebrate one another's birthdays at Cunningham's. Each time we make a point of trying different offerings on the menu, and we are never disappointed. Steak Tartare and Brucata flat bread were big hits. Andrew, our waiter, romances the menu so that we always look forward to returning to find out what is new and special."

  • "This is a neighborhood gem. I am reluctant to give it too high praise for fear we will have trouble getting a table! This is exactly what this area needs... great food, great atmosphere, and very knowledgable and engaging servers."

  • "We had a very nice birthday meal on a Sat night. Very nice ambiance and views with excellent service comes with a price. Reisling was very good and the t&t was also but it was in a small glass. Entrees (crab cakes and bronzini) were excellent but the accouterments with both were toooo strange and foo foo. Dessert was excellent The complementary indoor valet is a very nice feature and includes their direct elevators"

  • "This was my third time at Cunninghams. I have always thought that the food was good and creative and interesting. This time we went for my dad's 80th birthday. The service was ridiculously slow. My dad ordered an ice tea and the sugar didn't come until 20 minutes later. We ordered wine and 15 minutes later the waitress comes to the table to take our food order and tells us the bar is backed up. The place was not crowded-it was July 3-a holiday weekend. I so badly want to love this place. The decor is beautiful and the menu great for foodies but the poor service will prevent me from returning for a long while."

  • "The perfect addition to Towson!. Food was delicious. Beautiful Ambiance. Service was great! Would definetly return."

  • "We had a 6:30 reservation, we got there at 6:20. We ordered by 6:45, we got the entree at 7:55. The appetizers were great to read about but not notable, the salads were damp lettuce. We were not impressed. If this had been a first date instead of a 24th anniversary dinner, it certainly would never have gotten to the alter. We had a gift certificate. We advised the gifter not to eat there. We did thank her for the gift of discovery without expense."

  • "We dined at Cunningham's this past Saturday evening in search for a place to have our wedding reception, and we were very pleased! The food was delectable, while prepared with wonderful fresh ingredients. Hope this helps you continue to keep up a wonderful dining experience in our area and we look forward to celebrating our special day with others at Cunningham's"

  • "When all 4 members of a party give the unanimous review of 'mediocre' on their dinner, you know there's a problem. 4 different entrees, 4 similar responses in terms of food overcooked, over salted, and generally a big disappointment for the price. There are too many other area restaurants that might not be as pretty a setting but prepare much much better food at more reasonable prices. The menu was also a bit limited, with only one chicken dish. The a la cart sides were much better than what was offered with each dish but the kitchen was amenable to substituting - and each of us substituted as well. OK wine list and even the desserts were only OK. Not worth it for the price so doubt we'll be back."

  • "My wife equated the encounter with the Hostesses to an episode of 'The Hills'. They were pretty, and clueless, causing immediate confusion for the customer. Beyond that we had a delightful experience. Fun menu, although the iPad wine list was obvious overkill. Will return to further explore the menu."

  • "In general disappointed given the price of the menu items. However, the desserts were wonderful and would come back for coffee and dessert."

  • "Our dinner was good but not great. I had difficulty deciding what to order and finally settled on a flatbread. My husband had a steak. Both were good but not great. For the prices we were expecting great."

  • "All I could think of was La Cirq at Bellagio in Las Vegas upon entering the main dining room of Cunningham's, its beautifully appointed. We ordered a mix of appetizers - the oysters from raw bar were top-of-the-line but overpriced. Mushroom soup was superior, as were the fried oysters in cornmeal. Asparagus Salad was excellent, but we would have preferred thicker asparagus. For entrees: the crab cakes were worthy of MD fine dining, the portabella mushroom was a vegetarian's delight, although earthy, and the rib eye was well-trimmed, perfect medium-rare, beautifully presented. DO NOT skip dessert, we ordered five for a party of five and nothing was left! The coffee was only ordinary. The service attentive but a bit slow."

  • "Finally - Towson has a restaurant where I can take a client & celebrate a special occasion. A much needed find!"

  • "The food was outstanding, but the server had such a bad attitude, it became intimidating to ask for things. Inspite of this, we had a great time."

  • "Attractive spacious dining room and outstanding service. The food was fresh, original, and delicious. it is nice to finaly have a restaurant of this quality in Towson"

  • "My husband and I found Cunningham's pretentious. The restaurant is trying way too hard. Wine list on an Ipad? Really? Completely unnecessary. In spite of having an Ipad wine list, the server took our order using a notepad and pencil. Really? Our favorite comment of the evening was when we were asked about "water service"..."sparkling or still?" Really? It's water! My husband never comments on fashion, but like me, found the servers' attire just silly; once again, trying too hard to be be trendy, hip, etc. Perhaps more attention should be given to the food. My husband's $40 rib eye included tendons and muscle that made it difficult to eat. The tables are too close and the noise level makes conversation difficult."

  • "This restaurant has so much going for it, but the noise level makes for a terrible experience. Our ears were ringing. Aside from that, the pastas, appetizers and sides are all noteworthy. The mains seem rather high priced so I have steered to the smaller plates all of which are beautifully presented and equally as good. Can't wait to try it again, but early on a not so crowded day."

  • "Great food for a local restaraunt. The lay out inside is a little unusual for the setting but after a few dining experiences the food has remained consistently upscale. The service has remained top notch as well."

  • "Wehave had two dinners and a brunch recently and each time was a wonderful experience. We plan to dine there often!"

  • "We enjoyed our dinner at Cunningham's, although it was noisier than we'd like. The crabcakes were excellent. My friend had the duck which was a little tough to chew. We also had the fried oyster appetizer which was delicious, but could have used another oyster. Our waitress was friendly and did a good ;job."

  • "This restaurant has so much to offer. The food was fabulous, but the portions are not very big. The ambiance was perfect for a date night. The service was fabulous. Our waiter couldn't have been more accommodating or helpful and when he admitted he wasn't a wine aficionado, he sent the sommelier to help us. We were celebrating our anniversary that evening and the restaurant surprised us with complementary champagne. The bar was crowded, but offered the same menu and great service and ambiance as well. Be sure to have a reservation or you will wait, if you get seated at all."

  • "This was our second time to Cunningham's and we were very dissappointed in the service. I feel as if we would have ordered different options if we had known more about the menu. I had to ask him his name, what the specials were and we waited a long time with empty plates to be cleared. When having this kind of meal I expect the service to be at least on par with the food."

  • "The service at this restaurant is poor, which is a shame, because the food is absolutely wonderful. We almost left after being abandoned on the outdoor patio for at least 15 minutes with only water, no bread. Thankfully, we stuck around for what turned out to be a very good meal. It is always a shame to see a stellar kitchen underserved by waitstaff."

  • "Shared a birthday dinner with a close friend. The room is beautiful and the staff is welcoming. I ordered a Paloma cocktail and stumped the bartender. The result was not too great, but the server researched tin her phone and we found why it went wrong. And she comped me a "ring day", a vodka, pomegranate juice drink that was satisfyingly. The first courses, ricotta gundi and ramp butter toast, were wonderful. The gundi, light, little pillows of ricotta with a Meyer lemon sauce, were delightful. We split a half serving and found it most satisfying. We followed with 2 fish entrees, Bronzino and halibut. Both I lived up to the first course. All in all a great dining experience!"

  • "This place is such a gem. The bagby group did everything right. I love the other restaurants of the group in the city but this one was special. The porkbelly and shrimp dumplings were great as well as the halibut and steak. Wine was also wonderful."

  • "This was my first experience dining in the restaurant for my wife's birthday. The food was extraordinary, and the service was impeccable!"
    Dined on 6/13/2014
  • "I ordered the burger and my only complaint is that whatever sauce was on the lower bun was so sodium ladened that it distracted from the other flavors. An oddity to me is that the fries it came with were all about half to three quarters of an inch long; I must have gotten the bottom of the basket. The key lime tart was phenomenal, I wish could say the same for the apple rhubarb pie as it verged on being bland and the crust was lackluster. I may or may not return as I was expecting so much more food wise. The ambiance is electric though and the service was very good, perhaps I ordered the wrong items but that shouldn't be the case for what they are charging."

  • "This is my fourth time in 6 weeks at Cunningham's - I have been telling the world to try the lobster ginger soup and the must have brussel sprouts. I took friends, and of course, since restaurants seem to have a perception that the menu must change no matter how popular an item, our 2 favorites were gone . Both of my friends had the lamb, which was quite tough - a huge disappointment at these prices. I will say that my bronzini was spectacular. Given this experience, I do not feel compelled to rush back."

  • "Wonderful menus, interesting food on the par with California restaurants, but I am not sure Towson can support the effort. If the attention to wait service was as fantastic as the design of the restaurant, this would be almost perfect. Unfortunately hiring people in their 20's who don't know squat about real liqueur or the contents or preparation of some of their dishes....tarnishes the shine from the experience. I will return, but I will also request the quieter dining room."

  • "This was my second visit, both during the week. First time was wonderful, great food, excellent service and comfortable surroundings. I referred others. My second visit was a disappointment. The room was freezing and while they attempted to address this concern, the system appears to run on automated regulators. The service was again delightful, but our dinners seemed to lack the finesse of the first visit. An inconsistent kitchen can be the death of a restaurant. Hope they sort this out as I really do think Towson needs a place like Cunninghams."

    Dined on 6/11/2014
  • "The place is busy, loud and vibrate. However, the service is slow, food portions small, and expensive. What little we did eat was good.....not great. The bar is cool but overpriced and small servings. We may go back to sit outside this summer...give it one more shot!"

  • "We took our mother-in-law to a Friday night dinner at Cunningham's because she read some excellent reviews. It was uncomfortably loud and unfortunately my MIL will not go back. The food was however excellent and the local produce was delicious."

  • "It was excellent-When I made the reservation, I specified the quieter part of the restaurant=which is exactly where we sat. Service from beginning to end was excellent... Marrow Bone-Halibut-Wine-terrific- And my husband was raving-he is not as easy as I am..Would make Cunninghams a regular...."
