  • "I recently found out about Crab Hut and decided to make a reservation for my family reunion. It was our last gathering of the weekend. Our "home"/roots state is Louisiana, so it was nice to find a local restaurant subtitled "Louisiana Seafood Kitchen". I called to confirm a few days prior & the phone service was friendly enough, however, our in-person service was pretty terrible. The reservation was at 1:30pm, the restaurant was nearly empty, and our table was not even ready. It took nearly 15 minutes to finally get seated, and at least another 5 minutes until our server came back to ask if we wanted water (which should have been on the table already anyhow) and other drinks. Not much improved from there. Thankfully the food was great!"

  • "I love this place. Ever since my husband brought me here for the first time over a year I ago I request it for every special occasion. The staff are very friendly and fast. This place puts Joe's crab shack to shame."

  • "This is my second to visit the crab hut and first time to this branch. Their service is very good. We order 1/2 medium taste. This is better for us."

  • "Amazing experience! Couldn't figure out which was more excellent: the food or the service. Both were equally fantastic! It was our first time at this restaurant, and we loved it so much that we went back for a second time during our trip to San Diego. The shrimp/seafood boil is a must, and the crawfish etouffe was simply divine!"

  • "A friend of mine told me, when I mentioned I would be in San Diego that I had to hit the Crab Hut and I am loving the recommendation, it was awesome! The crabbie sliders (that is right mini crab cakes on a kings roll) for the appetizers were awesome and tasty and I loved my Crab feast and I know my friend ate every single one of her blue crabs. They do crab really well and the wait staff and the atmosphere is awesome."

  • "I'm from the east coast and miss summer crab feast. So, when I browsed restaurants and saw the Crab Hut served Blue Crabs I couldn't wait to get to San Diego. The menu is full of many fun foods to eat with a cajon flavor ! The atmosphere is fun and my waitress was awesome. I really like the fact they serve your seafood in a plastic see through bag. This is a very smart way to keep your items hot and warm until you're ready to eat your next piece. I hope the Crab Hut expands to the Los Angeles area in the near future !"

  • "I had an amazing experience. We had made a reservation but we're 45 minutes late due to being lost (we drove in from Phoenix), staff still accommodated us. Waiter was amazingly attentive. The whole place was clean and very aesthetically pleasing. The whole place smelled delicious. Portion sizes were huge! My husband and myself ordered a little bit of everything to share. The sampler appetizer, shrimp and crayfish soup and clams in white wine. Everything was fresh and no lie the best sea food I've ever had. Next vacation I will be making plans around this restaurant!"

  • "I invited family from out of town and one of them asked, "Who picked this place to eat?" Everyone pointed to me and said, "Good Choice!" This is great!"

  • "With very few Gulf Coast/New Orleans style eateries in San Diego The Crab Hut is a welcome spot. Yes they are limited to sea food but the buckets are so good. Everything is well seasoned and fresh. Our bucket included Crawfish, Shrimp, Lobster, Crab, Clams, Mussels, Potatoes and Corn. $55 seems a bit much until you see how much you get. that bucket would easily feed 3 and 4 if you got appetizers. My only complaint is that someone dinning alone can not really justify the price and they miss out on something grand. Until someone opens a real New Orleans restaurant that serves a complete menu this will be a place we go to, no disappointments."

  • "If you love seafood and don't mind getting a little messy, then this is the pace for you. This is a no-frills eatery (paper on the tables) that offers great seafood and drinks. It is a great place to take friends or guests in town. Rather than sitting around a stuffy table, everyone will dig into the food and have fun. Recommend you try it out."

  • "Myself and three friends tried out the Crab Hut because we were looking for a new place in San Diego. Our server immediately hit it off with our group and was friendly and attentive. We ordered one of their buckets with a couple appetizers, along with a few drinks each, and it was more than enough food. The house sauce in "medium hot" was nicely piquant and the seafood was well prepared. It was a lot of fun to dig into the seafood and literally get our hands dirty. Don't wear anything that needs to be dry cleaned, for sure! A lot of fun--we'll be back!"

  • "My friend and I both had a lb. of shrimp each. It was good, but I've had fresher...both at the Crab Hut in Kearny Mesa as well as Boiling Crab in Mira Mesa. Asked our server if he was familiar w/the Lychee martini. Non-committal answer was that it "seems to be a popular drink". After my first sip I realized why he didn't elaborate. It was so so. Server was also pretty non-personable. I never caught his name and we never made conversation to afford the opportunity to reiterate his name."

  • "Not your typical hole in the wall restaurant. This place has great seafood and it comes in abundance for a moderate price---cheap compared to other restaurants in the Gaslamp District. We were a party of 4 (2 adults and 2 kids) and celebrated our 14th wedding anniversary. A good place to hang out with friends and/or family in a very relaxed and friendly atmosphere. The service was good and the food was great. My daughter ordered the fish and chips and got full off of the chips alone. I had it for lunch and dinner the next day."

  • "This is a popular spot, so make reservations. They offer a nice selection of ways to prepare your food as far as seasoning goes. Dress is very casual. This is not the most quiet place, so bringing young kids is no problem. The service is good and staff is careful to make sure you enjoy your food."

  • "Party of 3. Decided to order appetizers. Ordered the crab poppers, hush puppies, and then crab Rangoon when the server said "You are ordering too many appetizers." In my 40+ years of eating out, I've never had anyone reprimand me for ordering "too many appetizers." Guest ordered a pound of seafood and we were told "A pound comes with corn and sausage." Seafood came but no corn or sausage. We informed waiter who told us "You ordered the combo, which is 1/2 pound of crawfish and 1/2 pound of shrimp; since it wasn't one pound of ONE TYPE of seafood, no corn and sausage for you." Friend ordered another pound of seafood - ALL crawfish. Got the crawfish with a 1.5 inch corn cob & 2 slivers of sausage. What a ripoff. Never going back."

  • "I went here with my wife and very picky mother in law and we all enjoyed every bit of our meal. My mother in law is used to southern bakes so she loved the fact that we shelled our own crawdads. This is true Louisiana cuisine and I highly recommend it to anyone looking for good southern comfort food."

  • "Im from Louisiana...so i didnt have the highest expectations for this place. I just didnt think the food would be as good as back at home. I was in for a surprise! The food was actually very good. The crab poppers were delicious and the crab legs cooked in old bay and spiced to knock out standards was on point for my taste buds. The server was very nice and the atmosphere was fun!"

  • "The food comes to your table in plastic bags. No plates, no flatware unless you ask for some. We had lobster, shrimp, crayfish...none of which was especially flavorful. I think they try to use their spices to cover the mediocre quality of the food. Service was terrible. I had iced tea and was never offered a refill. At the end of the meal, when we were tired of waiting, we had to go to the bar to get our check - and the restaurant wasn't full. Don't go here unless every other place is closed - our worst dining experience in at least 10 years...and it is too expensive to be that bad."

  • "this was my first experience at the Crab Hut in the gaslamp district. I was unsure of what to expect. I am very particular about my selection of crab. I'm lazy and I don't like working to get the meat out of the crab, so I prefer the king crab. The crab hut seasons their crab much better than red lobster and I love red lobsters king Crab. They have a variety of choices for crab and shrimp. My table was ready when I arrived because I reserved it in advance. we had a great time."

  • "The food is amazing! I'll never look at seafood the same again. My wife and I ate dinner there 2 of the 3 nights we were in San Diego. The price is very reasonable for crab and seafood. I liked that they sell it by the pound. The beverage menu is extensive. I had to roll myself out of there each night."

  • "My guy and I came here for Restaurant Week and were not disappointed. They had a deal or $45/person for a three-course meal and the option of adding a pitch of local beer (yes, the good stuff) for $15. We arrived at 5pm and were informed by the waitress that the happy hour price was $10/pitcher. So we ordered a pitcher of Green Flash IPA - a pint of this deliciousness is typically $4.50 to $6 anywhere else - what a steal. Would come back for that alone! We added on an order of oysters, which were clean and fresh, and only $1 each for happy hour. The food was good, the o'butter sauce was amazing, and dessert was just so-so. Overall, we would definitely come back."

  • "The food was good and prices fair. Crawfish was frozen (stay away) but you can never go wrong with shrimp. Sampler boat was humongous and great for parties. Happy hour was 3-7 with $10 pitchers (good selection of beer), $1 oysters (great), and $.50 wings. We ordered some wings but they never came. It was pretty loud but it's a place where you eat with your hands and everyone's wearing a bib so that fits just fine. I prefer this location to the Kearny Mesa location due to the variety of beer, the happy hour specials and the fact that this place doesn't overspice their sauces (half-medium spicy at KM is at least a medium downtown, sometimes hotter)."
