Diner Reviews
  • "The on-line menu looked good so I booked a table. I had oysters on the half shell and the first oyster was excellent with that wonderful sea taste flavor, a creamy body, and a nice brine finish. The first was the best and the rest not quite as good (believe they were not all of the same variety) but still fresh. The Caesar Salad was nice but most of the ingredients were separated - not how I would do it but still quite acceptable. Elk was the main course... the meat was seared to perfection, the asparagus was outstanding, the red skin potatoes just right, and the sauce was heavenly - a genuinely well put together dish without the fuss. Highly recommended entree. Caveat: the main dining room is big and cuts down on the intimacy factor."

  • "Wife had horseradish crusted salmon and I had hazelnut crusted sea bass...both excellent dinners"

  • "The servers and greeters were very friendly. The food was very good and thought the presentation of the food was nice. I would definitely come to eat at Cottonwood Grille again."

  • "The hosting staff were somewhat stuffy as we walked in. We were seated immediately and our server was very friendly and attentive. The water glass my wife had, was not clean. She picked off a chunk of something crusty off the rim before she could drink. The prime rib was ok but not great. The sirloin was very good. The price for what we received was high. I may return but I may look elsewhere before."

  • "This visit was the third time I had visited this restaurant. Every time it has been someone's birthday and this time I took my friend to lunch for her birthday. The food was very good and presented very nicely. I hope to be able to bring my husband there one of these days because he loves fish and chips and I'm guessing he will love yours also. We moved from out-of-state about a year ago, and so far this is my all time favorite restaurant."

  • "We had dinner several months ago and must have gotten the "B" team. Much better other than dirty glassware."

  • "I dined alone early on a Sunday evening. The large dining room was nearly empty, but service was prompt and efficient. The insalata caprese was nicely done, and the pasta was very flavorful. A nice quiet dinner that was very pleasant and enjoyable."

  • "Food has been very good the past 6 months and service was excellent."

  • "We were celebrating our 34th anniversary. I mentioned it to the server and at the end of the meal we were served a surprised dessert. we had not gone to this restaurant for years, and were not disappointed."

  • "The quality and taste of the meals clearly identity the Cottonwood Grill as one of the "go to restaurants" in Boise when entertaining your high end customers. The presentation of the meals were impressive and were a joy to eat. The atmosphere and staff complement the meals by presenting a professional yet relaxed atmosphere. The Cottonwood Grill is one of the best restaurants to entertain my customers and friends."

  • "We went to Cottonwood Grille for our fortieth anniversary celebration. I couldn't have been better!! We've eaten there in the past and are never disappointed."

  • "Cottonwood Grill was an epic experience and I was thrilled with the food, service, and ambiance!"

  • "Absolute perfection, the only other experience that rivaled the Cottonwood Grille was the "Dell Bar" (designed by Frank Lloyd Wright) in WI Dells. The Cottonwood Grille was able to successfully & properly prepare a steak "medium rare" which may sound simple but is actually quite a rarity (pun intended). As a result of this superb dining experience, I now have a renewed belief that Boise does in fact have its own culinary niche."

  • "We went to the bar at Cottonwood Grille specifically to watch the World Cup. We had that written in the notes to the restaurant when reserving through Open Table, and also received confirmation from the person answering the CG phone that we indeed had reservations in the bar. When we got to CG however, the hostess informed us that the bar area was open seating and we didn't have any reservation. Thank goodness about that same time, a booth opened up for us. So, CG's communication regarding the Open Table reservation wasn't good. Other than that, the food was good, the service great, and we had an enjoyable time."

  • "The Cottonwood Grille is a wonderful place for leisurely, scenic dining. The waitstaff is attentive and knowledgeable and the food is well prepared. The serving sizes are generous (in the case of the veggie wrap, way MORE than generous!). I would recommend the Grille for leisurely dining; there did not seem to be any sense of hurry. We were celebrating a birthday and were given a complimentary ice cream dessert."

  • "The wedge salad was excellent. The pork with leeks was very good and the New York Baseball cut was perfect. We were there on a Saturday and there was a pianist. We will be back soon."

  • "It is wonderful to find a restaurant where you can actually hear your company talk to you. We enjoyed our time and went for a stroll along the river after dinner great experience"

  • "Yummy drink selections for happy hour with tasty appetizers. The bar area is spacious and comfy, the bartenders are very attentive and knowledgeable. Totally recommend hitting up the happy hour first and then sitting down for a tasty meal."

  • "Coming back through town on a Monday evening, hoping the experience would match previous visits on other weekends. We were not disappointed. Service was energetic and helpful. Meals were high quality. Staff did not appear to suffer the Monday lag. Surprised the restaurant was as crowded as it was. Overall great time."

  • "We did go a little early in the evening so I can understand the older crowd. The service was Dennys worthy from the word go. Waiter was very spot sloppy and not knowledgeable of the wine list. Food was mediocre and very over priced for what it was. Will not go back or recommend."

  • "Our server (I think I recall her name was Natalie) was just lovely and every bite of our dinner was delicious. Equally wonderful was the patio dining, the impossibly beautiful setting for an evening, and the gardens. This is much more than a gem. It is unmatchable. This is the place I bring special guests when I have out of town visitors. It represents Boise in the most lovely way."

  • "One of the members of our 4-party group said there steak was very fatty. I think it was a rib steak. She didn't tell me until after we left. I told her you would have brought another steak, but of course it was too late."
    Dined on 6/29/2014
  • "The prime rib was overcooked. Even though they replaced it, it was still not great. Try the many other good things on the menu, including many of the great appetizers, instead. The waitress, originally from Poland, was outstanding."
    Dined on 6/28/2014
  • "The place has not aged well. The best part of the meal was the baked brie. The two past dishes where in a soupy and very heavy sauce. My daughter's salad had a hair in it and one of my four scallops was not cleaned well so i was biting down on sand"
    Dined on 6/27/2014
  • "A beautifully designed restaurant with suburb food to match. Perfect place to dine and entertain."
    Dined on 6/27/2014
  • "The steak was tender and flavorful, good wine selection, helpful staff."

  • "This reservation and experience were fraught with issues from incorrect orders being presented, food being delivered at different times (they forgot all of our salads) and a general lack of attention to our table by the wait staff. While the restaurant was not overly busy, we seemed to be an after thought by the server on multiple occasions and had to actually 'wave' her over a couple of times. Disappointing service to a mediocre meal. The Grille is close by so we often go there for business lunches, but may have to re-think that consideration in the future."

  • "This has always been one of our favorite dinner spots, however the last couple of times we were very disappointed with the food. It was to the point where we did not trust the restaurant as being one we would take guests to. The atmosphere is always so wonderful but if the food isn't good, we would choose to entertain guests elsewhere. Hopefully, it was just a low time for them and things have turned around. I want it to be our "go to" favorite again."

  • "This place was okay but my overall experience was not that great! When we got our food the plate was super hot but the food not so much. The food was ok but honestly I've had so much better and to top it off my husband got a dirty spoon with his soup but didn't realized it until he took a bite of it and realized there was something stuck to the spoon. It was pretty nasty! We told the waitress and she offered us a dessert on the house so we got the cobble which wasn't very good it tastes like the cobble had been sitting there for a long time! I also ordered a mojito and the mint in my drink was black like as if it was going bad! I don't think I will go back to this restaurant again. We really were not impressed!"

  • "Even though I made our reservations a month in advance, we still were seated in the traffic lane from the patio to the kitchen - and this was the 2nd attempt - her first was right in the lane! Service was hit 'n miss as our server constantly reminded us he was very busy, and always was going by saying "I'll be right with you." This was a special dinner to show my sister from CA, who had never been to ID before, a nice atmosphere and place to eat (which I mentioned when I made the reservations). We were never asked if we wanted appetizers, we had to ask if there were specials, and I had to turn back our bill, as we wanted to order dessert. We will not repeat this mistake again when we plan special events."

  • "Excellent meal. Salmon was great, and sitting by the river made for a nice evening. Service was excellent."
    Dined on 6/12/2014
  • "One of the things I love about this place is the flexibility in a/c cool interior or breezy nature-cooled patio. I like their specials but like that favorites stay on the menu. I come back to the Idaho trout here as the best in the city."
    Dined on 6/12/2014
  • "We had reservations for a party of 7 on the patio. None of us does well in full sun, but the table that was set up for us would have resulted in 4 of the 7 of us sitting in full sun. The staff was very accommodating to our request to be moved elsewhere, which necessitated moving a couple of tables together and then readjusting one more time to get us all in the shade. It was a nuisance for them but they were very gracious. The food and service that we then enjoyed was excellent, as usual."
