  • "As there are a million restaurants and I like trying new ones I will be back to this one. While it was quiet on July 5th the food wine and service were all good. We sat outside, enjoyed our food and wine. To me there are basically 2 reviews not good enough to go back and worth going back and/or worth the price. This one is worth going back."

  • "Have been here a couple of times now and always enjoy! The olive bread they serve should be baked and sold! The veal meatballs are probably the best I have ever had and the sauce, simply delish. Too full for desert so ordered the Tiramisu to go- YUM! Great food, service and a gem in downtown Stamford."

  • "We've eaten here 3 times - once alone, twice with friends. The food is always good - some items are outstanding. The Tuna Tartare is different and terrific. The chocolate lava cake is better than most. Very amenable to diet restrictions. The manager is excellent. When I mentioned that I prefer my drinking water at room temperature he made sure that someone tended to it throughout the meal. Servers are friendly, well-informed and willing to offer their opinions about both wine and food. Happy to return! Just a warning for older customers - like all places these days, it can get loud, making conversation difficult; and the menu is printed on a darker background and can be tough for older eyes."

  • "We booked dinner for three on a Monday night. As one might expect, getting a table was quite easy and most restaurants in the area were far from capacity. They are noted for their wine selection, bottle and by the glass, and this was correct. The two glasses of Babaresco I had were quite nice. We split some fried eggplant and zucchini which was so so. My mate had a pizza while my partner had the lobster ravioli and I had the paparadelle with boar. Mains were quite good. Service was attentive and helpful. This place is worth trying, I'd recommend it to friends and if in the area, will eat there again."

  • "With a price tag of $34 for scallops I was turned off to the prices at this wine bar/restaurant. I have seldom if ever seen prices like that for scallops and surely not at a restaurant I'd rate as good and no higher. Pleasant enough place but not worth the price. Perhaps Open Table should add VALUE to the star rating."

  • "My girlfriends and I were looking for a quiet but welcoming place to grab tapas. Barcelona is way too loud for us - Cotto was the perfect place to eat delicious tapas and drink delicious wine. We can't wait to come back!"

  • "Cotto is on a quiet street in Downtown. We have gone several times and always sat outside, while on the street, its not as noisy as you'd think. Its actually quite charming. The FOOD... where do I start? The sauce reminded my husband of his Italian grandmother's sauce. The pasta was fresh! Everything was just delicious... it is now our 'go to' place in Stamford when we dont' know where to go!"

  • "I was looking for a restaurant close to the Stamford nightlife and searched on Google Maps. Had never heard of Cotto and made reservations without hearing anything about it. Loved it! The service was great, my friends and I all marveled at how cute the inside of the restaurant was! The food selection was amazing, I couldn't choose between three dishes! Ended up loving what I ordered. We will definitely be back!"

  • "When we made the reservation through OpenTable, every half hour was showing as available. When we arrived five minutes early for our 8pm reservation, we were told it would be at least a 20 minute wait. We finally sat down only after pointing out an available table to the hostess. Not two minutes after we signed our check, a waiter came over to tell us we needed to leave because they needed the table. We were there for just about an hour. When we asked to see the hostess, the waiter returned to say she would not come over. When we insisted, she could not have been more rude. This was our first visit to Cotto after recently moving to the area. Never, never again. "

  • "Our orders got switch on delivery to the table and it took a few bites for us to realize it. The only tip off was the fact that my wife ordered crispy bacon and instead she got my Siciliano with prosciuto. Both panini were delicious and Danielle our waitres was knowledgeable and attentive without being over zealous."

  • "One of my favorite restaurants in the tri-state area. Always a great meal, the staff is so friendly. I feel comfortable sitting at the bar and having a drink and something to eat by myself or while waiting for friends. Try the baby lamb chops, anti- pasta. All the pasta dishes are great."

Most questions about the wine and food that we had were mostly answers that were made up. Food itself was standard fare for a typical Italian restaurant but had higher expectations going by the design and wine list. Fish special was disappointing and lacking in flavor."

  • "This was our first time trying Cotto. We started with mussels impepata which were good but could have used a bit more "oomph" in flavor. The burrata platter was SO delicious. For entrees, I had the chicken milanese which was a big portion. At our table we had 2 seafood pastas and a pepperoni pizza. Everyone said they were happy with their food. We were ambitious with our dessert selections: zeppoles with nutella, creme brulee AND tiramisu. We didn't realize how many zeppoles come in an order...(it's A LOT!). They were slightly greasy....but that's also why they were so good! The creme brulee was creamy and smooth with just the right amount of sweetness. The tiramisu was our least favorite of the 3 - there was just nothing special about it."

  • "Went to cotto with a couple of girlfriends and sat at the bar which was perfect. Bartender very friendly and had great suggestion of his white sangria which was very tasty. The food was fabulous from the over abundant amount of tapas choices to the tasty entrees. Great place for sharing. Ordered the pappardelle pasta with Ragu sauce and chicken scarp. Both excellent. Can't wait to go back"

  • "We did not get our food as ordered, although that was quickly fixed. My Panini had all the ingredients but was cold; the cheese was not melted My Proseco was expensive, but had no carbonation. I suspect that the food is pretty good, because the half sandwich I took home was good when I cooked it properly. Nice people, helpful, but needs attention to the food."

Service could be a little better - a bit chaotic as dishes come out at different times and items get sometimes forgotten; also table is not always cleaned between courses.   • "This is the best Italian food I've had in a long time. I have been here several times. Unfortunately, I know going into the experience that I'm sacrificing experience for food. I can't stress enough how good the food is, but the place packs way above capacity, and the service reflects this -- repeat orders several times, slow drink service. One caveat - if you have a small group (2-3) you can sit at the bar, and usually still get good service as long as you don't mind people bumping the back of your chair"

The service and noise level were both a problem.Our waiter took the order for a bottle of wine; came back and told us they were out of that wine; we order a second, and again the waiter came back and told us they were out. The third selection, after some delay was brought to our table. The noise level crept up throughout the evening. When the waiter came to take our orders he had to kneel next to each person to hear. 20 minutes after we finished our salads we inquired if our main course was coming. The waiter said that the kitchen had lost our order but it was going on "now" and would be out shortly. The NYTimes review may have backfired and overwhelmed their ability to provide quality service."

  • "We really liked this place with the exception that they were way too crowded. I would have given 5 stars had it not been a bit of a challenge from the service side and it was way too noisy. They appear to have way too many tables, way too close together and servers have to wait on tables standing sideways between chairs reaching over customers. They were also rushing as it was busy and we felt we were being pushed to eat very quickly to turn the table. This rushing caused the bus boy to spill oil all over my shirt and back reaching over my arm to clear a side plate. We had to order Cappuccinos twice to get it. If great food is what you want, then they have that...the rest may annoy you."

Waited at bar for date to show...busy barkeep, had to ask several times for a wine list and water to start, wanted a lemon in the water but afraid to ask and get the arrogant look!...many diners at bar, ordered from extensive wines by the glass list, measured pour! Should have asked for 1/3 of a glass of wine, 'casue that's what I got, instead of a glass! Very few wines were less than an Al Hamilton... Dinner, Hmmm...when food came, salmon was nicely cooked but not really flavorful. Veal was turned back flavorless...they came back with CO lamb chops which were good, but not excellent, at $37.95 not fairly priced either... Will give them another chance on a non-busy night....hope they can deliver!"

  • "We went here Saturday night during Restaurant Weeks. Service was excellent and attentive. We were seated immediately based on our reservation but Cotto was packed to the point of being uncomfortable. We exchanged comments with the couple next to us because they really were that close and it was a little tough to hear each other. The staff did a fantastic job given how crowded it was and we never felt that they weren't paying attention to us. We both enjoyed our dinners (but if you are there during restaurant week, ask for the special menu, it might not be given to you automatically). We will be back for sure--likely for a Sunday evening when I suspect it's a bit less crowded and wine bottles are half price!"
