This mAy have been influenced by the truly fabulous meal we had eaten at delfina the night before - similar food, so easy to compare. Perhaps cotinga would have stood up better without that comparison. Nevertheless, our waitress was lovely and we enjoyed most of our meal"

  • "Granted I have only eaten here once, but after waiting so long to even get a reservation, I would have hoped this place was going to be special. But no. This was the definition of a lackluster meal, where not even one dish is memorable enough to recall (in a good way) just a day later. The sole was tasteless, the smoked trout in the salad was dry and frankly not well smoked, the pasta with lamb special was decent but underwhelming, the almond cake was not a cake and overwhelmed by the lump of tart sorbet, etc, etc. at least the foam on my coffee (which arrived too long after the bad cake) was good. Suffice it to say that Cotogna is WILDLY overrated. Don't waste your money here."

  • "This was the third or so Sunday Supper I've been to at Cotogna and it's really enjoying. There's something so fun about not having to make a decision about what to order, but knowing that whatever you get will be great. The starter--a salad with smoked trout and asparagus--was the perfect starter. We ordered the pasta as an extra and it, too, was springy and a really nice addition of fresh vegetables with the pasta. The main, the pork, was the epitome of a great Sunday dinner--hearty, delicious, and simple. I don't normally care for ice cream sandwiches, but the Moroccan mint ice cream was really great. The Sunday Supper is such a good deal!"

  • "We had a great meal at Cotogna. Our waitperson, Colette, was the best - very professional, helpful and friendly. We're thankful Quince opened Cotogna. The food is superb especially the pizzas and pastas. We go there when we can get a reservation or sometimes we walk in around 3 or 4 in the afternoon and enjoy a late lunch or early supper. We'll be back!"

Seated initially at a table trafficked by all staff, we were awkwardly seated at much better table.It took our waitress about 10 min to take our drink order (a martini) which came in a highball glass. Huh? Turns out there was a misunderstanding and from there on it was smooth, very smooth sailing. Our charming waitress suggested some wines, offered us a taste and it was perfect. We ordered the chopped salad to share- very generous and so tasty. He ordered the ravioli and I ordered the gnocchi, both fabulous but my gnoccii was the definite favorite--plush pillows of pure indulgence. The ambience of a spring evening sun setting in the midst of a streetscape added to the experience. Looking forward to more."

  • "My wife and I had been wanting to try Cotogna for some time. Cotogna is exceptionally hard to get a table at and this seems to be it's only flaw. My wife and I went to celebrate our 1st Wedding Anniversary, which I had let them know and the acknowledged with well wishes written on our place mat... this was a sweet touch. The hostess could not have been nicer and our server was the most highly skilled. Service in SF overall is pretty great but this was the best I have had here. The exceptional level of service is not to make up for mediocre food, that's for sure. The menu is not too big not too small and offers a perfect balance of italian pizza, pasta and other dishes. If you can get a table, it's Cotogna is a must try."

  • "I read that Cotogna often runs late on reservation times and the reviews didn't fail. We waited outside in the cold for nearly 40 minutes before we were seated. By that time we all had headaches from hunger. They brought us a pizza soon after we were finally seated on the house but why is this a reoccurring issue? I guess people love the place so much they don't want to leave after they pay. It is warm and cozy in there so I understand but I recommend coming here ether early evening or late night so you're not waiting way after your reservation. We were tempted to leave and take our celebration else where. Their ricotta ravioli and asparagus antipasti were the stand outs. Delicious but I was in too much hunger pain to truly enjoy."

This time our group of 4 mixed and matched antipasto and pastas before selecting individual entrees, thus allowing us to sample and appreciate the full range and the superb quality of this restaurant's menu.   • "We had the most wonderful time - from the moment I arrived the hostess very cordial, I arrived early my table was ready, I was able to sit down and wait for my guest - the wait staff over the top with service, friendliness, assistance in recommending items on the menu. The cuisine outstanding - presentation superb - took my grandson who works nearby and he was delighted with all the selections - we look forward to returning and will soon. Excellent restaurant."

  • "This is our favorite restaurant in the entire SFBay Area for Italian food. The menu is so enticing we always have a hard time making a choice because we want to try everything! The food is to die for, the presentation is photo worthy, the staff is knowledgeable and nice, the service is top notch without being intrusive, and the atmosphere is warm and unpretentious, even the other diners are friendly. We only wish it were less noisy since two people in our party of five are hard of hearing."

  • "I dined here on Valentine's Day with the Prixe Fix menu. We were very underwhelmed. The Sea Bass was very disappointing and lacked any flavor. The service was also subpar. The server kept disappearing for 15-20 minute periods. We were left with dirty dishes on our table waiting for the next course for extended periods multiple times throughout the evening. This is disheartening as our previous experiences here always much better. Not a great Valentine's Day dinner."

Their dishes prepared in the ever wood burning oven overseen by very dedicated and passionate chefs is just amazing. I love to sit at the prep bar and watch the masters at work. Any oven roasted vegetable is memorable. Love the wine list. The service is perfect...friendy and knowledgeable."

  • "What we had for our Saturday brunch: Carrot Sformato - I prefer the spinach version that I've had in the past at this restaurant, but it was still a good dish Di Stefano burrata & Mariquita Farms broccoli - delicious Chicories, Hamada Farms Citrus, & Ricotta Salata - fresh Wood Oven Baked Egg with Brussels Sprouts - might have been better with a little more butter on the sprouts Strozzapreti with Braised Beef Short Rib - great Chitarrini with Wild Mushroom Ragu - excellent Rigatoni with Octopus & Stridoli - great Latte Yunnan Black Tea - delicious Gelato - excellent The host was very nice and our waitress (Lily C) was very knowledgeable about the dishes."

I know there were many other great items on the menu ( Lobster Arancine and the Raviolo) but because I had this last it is the last amazing taste left in my mouth after a decadent lunch on a bustling Saturday afternoon. We sat at the bar but were still offered the same professional service and knowledgeable staff! If you don't have a reservation, come early and not TOO hungry, you will be waiting at least two hours at peak times- there is a great wine bar across the street- Barrique!"

  • "This was our second visit to Cotogna. We brought some friends. We enjoyed the traditional menu (not tasting). We were depressed when Quince took the amazing ravioli in butter off the menu. Here it is at Cotogna, and still an amazing flavor array. Other dishes all had the Michael Tusk style - diverse combinations of distinctive flavors that complement and occasionally challenge each other. We liked the $40 per bottle wine list, which made it possible for us to sample several wines without breaking the bank. We especially liked the Montalcino red - more character than the Sangiovese meld whose name I don't remember and didn't write down. Cotogna is an excellent dining experience, relaxed and fun."
