A word from Copia Restaurant and Wine Garden
Copia is the Roman goddess of abundance, wealth, pleasure and harvest. Copia is a daily celebration of fantastic wines, an abundance of tantalizing food, great friends and memorable experiences. In wine, we find good health, enjoyment and a plentitude of pleasurable memories. Copia’s urban winery concept is unique as it "brings the spirit of the vineyards to the heart of downtown St. Louis.”

Copia exhibits warm hues, exposed brick walls and natural wood beam ceilings. The open display kitchen is situated at the back of the restaurant, while a beautiful glass waterfall separates the main dining room from the bar. The dining room's elegant ambiance also extends to our unique Wine Garden patio.

  • "This is not an inexpensive restaurant. With that understanding there are usually certain accoutrements that one would expect like bread and butter at the table. I recently went with a group of 14 so it was a long wait (30 minutes) to get all the dishes prepared to be served at once. During the wait a little bread would have been nice to stave of the hunger pains."

  • "Grits & Shrimp and the Lobster & Shrimp Farfalle were both really tasty, and portions are very generous. Waiter was very loud and rattled off 3 whole minutes of "menu notes", without asking us first if we had any specific questions or if we already knew what we wanted - so that was kind of annoying. His manner was rather abrupt and not real "warm" - aside from that, the food that we got was really great and we got 2 more meals out of it the next day!"

  • "I made reservations at Copia for a bachelorette party. Great pick. The restaurant was nice and service was good. The food was great but the prices a little pricey. This would be a special occasion. Can't complain too much otherwise. The ladies bathroom door was broken in though. For it being such a nice restaurant I found this shocking. I mean the whole frame was off the wall like someone ripped it off."

  • "The food here is incredible! It is certainly a bit high on the price range and wouldn't be a frequent stop but it's great for a nice occasion. Try the bacon wrapped shrimp and the steaks! Phenomenal!"

  • "Our waiter was funny and energetic but ruined the experience. He had a tendency to almost throw the dishes down on the table. Water glasses were not refilled until asked. After entrees were delivered he stayed to talk about how fresh the fish was for almost 3 minutes, not realizing the food was getting cold. For the price, the staff operates more like an Applebee's than a nice higher end establishment. Scallop risotto cakes were very salty, but the other 3 dishes were ordered were very good. Chocolate cake was huge and the gooey butter cake was fantastic."

  • "Alexander took great care of us, recommended a very nice and affordable bottle of wine, and the food was excellent."

  • "This visit was our third visit. Each time we have been pleased with the service, ambience, and the meals. For each visit we sat in a different area of the restaurant. All of the areas were lovely, but our favorite is in the wine garden. I am excited to see what the ambience in the wine garden will bring once the warmer weather is here!"

  • "This was the 4th time we had been to Copia -- and once again, we were very happy we went. The service was excellent, as was the food (Steak Diane and Barbeque Ribs). If you haven't been, this place is a must!"

  • "Our dinner was very tasty but I felt for the price and service it should have been exceptional. My husband ordered the salmon and it was literally about 3-4 bites. I had a filet with was very nice. Our waiter was good but shared too many details of his private life. Including telling us how he had just a triple shot of vodka at the bar. I feel no desire to go back for another meal especially with so many other choices in our city!"

  • "Wife said best scallops she ever had.Gumbo and Jambalaya were pure New Orleans. Our waiter, Steve, explained the specials, made suggestions, was attentive and made the evening a lot of fun."

  • "I took my girlfriend here for dinner last weekend while visiting St. Louis. The restaurant itself was great, the food was delicious (try the Arancini!), the wine list was a mile long, and overall the waitstaff was great. Our only issue was when my girlfriend just ordered a salad (she's a vegetarian) she got an annoyed look from our waiter. Other than that he was a great server and we really enjoyed the experience."

  • "Food was great, but the prices of the specials were very high. Too expensive for what you got. Desserts are fabulous. Service was quite good other than the waiter "over-explained" many things."

  • "I read many reviews about trouble with groupon here. I had no issues at all. No debate. Showed them the Groupon up front and they explained. Our server was top notch, prompt and attentive. We ordered the mushroom appetizer. It was so good... My wife had the Steak Diane which was just ok. I had the ribs which were pretty good. The sauce was great. Very spicy but good.. Overall it was way overpriced for the quality of food. Not saying it is not high quality but I would not rate the food better than any ordinary dining experience. The prices do no equal the food. With my $50 groupon I had to add another $40 with it and that was with no drinks. I hope that makes sense."

  • "The food was good and the service was fine. The only improvement- I would expected to get a piece of bread with the pasta I ordered."

  • "First, let me say that this is not a cheap restaurant. It will definitely set you back a bit in the wallet. That being said, you definitely get what you pay for. The service staff is incredibly friendly and knowledgeable, and the food is absolutely amazing. If you happen to be in the St Louis area and you're looking for a romantic dinner for two, Copia is an absolute must."

  • "My husband and I had dinner at Copia for Valentines Day. It was his first time there and I was hoping he would be as impressed as I was. I ordered the Slow Roasted Chicken (which I highly recommend) and I ordered the shrimp and Grits. The food was good, but what made his visit memorable was the service. Nicole was our server and she was exceptional! Thanks for displaying a pleasant attitude and great customer service."

  • "I had high expectations for this restaurant based on what I read on Opentable & their website, but I was rather disappointed by the experience I had. Maybe it was the wrong night, but I was in town on business, and as a business traveler, I expect excellence no matter when it is. First the good things - the décor is really nice, and they have a huge wine collection (1000 bottles they said). The by the glass list was somewhat limited, though. The creamy tomato soup was really tasty & smooth. The scallops, though were fairly ordinary; the sauce had too much cayenne in it - my mouth ended up on fire. The asparagus was quite undercooked, dry & sauceless. No bread/butter, either. Not worth the price; very disappointing."

  • "For a restaurant built into an old building in downtown St. Louis, this one is a real gem. I could have spent hours reading the wine list, and the food is magnificent without being froo-froo. I was hoping to get a table in the open-air patio area that has the feel of a high-class biergarten, but we were seated inside. No matter - it's a fabulous place to take a girlfriend that you want to impress with your oenophilia (look it up)."

  • "This should be a bar scene. The wine list is incredible. But the seating of long benches along the wall with single tables designed to seat two diners is not very romantic when you are almost elbow to elbow with the couple sitting next to you especially if you happen to be sitting on the bench. The food is good but if you want a vegetable you should order a side dish. We had to ask for bread and to have our water glasses refilled. The side dish wasn't served until five minutes into our meal. Not a very romantic evening."

  • "Food was great. Great wine choices and beer list. We had our 4 year old with us for a 6 pm reservation and the restaurant was accommodating of her. Temperature of the room in the rear was almost an issue but we were seated right next to fire pits so we were able to stay warm."

  • "I love the look of the restaurant, and the ambience is great. While the food was delicious, the poor service ruined the experience. My husband and I ordered from the special Valentine's Day menu, which included a glass of wine or champagne. We ordered our drinks while studying the menu, and it took the waiter almost 15 minutes to return with them. When he brought the drinks we placed our order, and he said he would bring us bread. Apparently he forgot and did not acknowledge that until the end of our meal. Our server was pleasant enough, but not well-trained. An overall disappointing experience."

  • "The waiter we had was very good, knowledgable about the wines and food. Service and the experience was excellent. The portions were enormous, especially the size of the piece of cake for dessert. A little on the pricey side but it was a special occasion (Valentine's Day) and they brought a single rose to the table for my date…nice touch!"

  • "I am very disappointed that I took my girlfriend to Copia on Valentines Day. The restaurant was not romantic. It was overly loud and bright. We were sat outside in the wine garden that was cold. We waited 20 minutes for service. The reservation was 9:30pm, so Copia was not busy. It was well staffed, which made the poor service even more noticeable. We finally did get service and ordered; however, the bottlle of wine arrived after the food. In fact, we did not have any beverage when the food arrived. I made a huge mistake traveling from Louisville and making reservations at Copia for a romantic VD. I do not recommend Copia as a romantic restaurant. Romantic restaurants should be low key, quite, and dimly lite; Copia failed in all regards."

  • "We had a reservation and were seated immediately. Our waiter came to the table right away. He was very friendly, knowledgeable, and always easy to find. The swordfish was incredible and the royal cut prime rib was more than enough and also excellent. The wine list is overwhelming and with some help we had an amazing red blend. Everything about our experience was positive."

  • "I've been here once before for a friends birthday with a moderate size party and we were in the party room which was a great experience! Just recently my wife and I came for valentines day and we were pleasantly surprised at how wonderful the service was. Great food and great service makes a great eating experience!!!"

  • "Second time at Copia--overall, not as good as the first. The slaw with the crabcakes was limp. My husband's duck was excellent, but my tuna was overcooked and underseasoned. Also, at these prices the whipped potatoes should be made order, not "already made, a whole bunch at a time" as the waitress informed us."

  • "The server was rude, a fire alarm was going off the last 15 min we were there for no reason. I would not recommend. Too pricey for poor service and ombiance.."

  • "We started with the Ahi Tuna appetizer that was delish. I had the filet with blue cheese and substituted the grits for the whipped potatoes. The filet was cooked perfectly and the grits were creamy. My husband ordered the chicken and substituted the jambalaya for his side. My husband wasn't pleased with his chicken, noting it was very dry. It was nice that substitutions and additions weren't a problem. We ordered the 2009 Stags Leap Petite Syrah and they only had the 2010. Instead, we enjoyed the Spellbound that was suggested by the sommelier. There was a burlesque show going on in another part of the restaurant that we were interested in checking out, but it was sold out. Our waiter, David, was nice enough to sneak us in for a quick peek."
