Diner Reviews
  • "We went to this restaurant at the recommendation of a guidebook, and despite the fact that it was a bit of a drive to get to it, it was definitely worth it. The ambience was charming and the food was proudly local, immaculately presented and delicious, and the service was impeccable. Everything we ate had a little twist that made a standard dish excellent (kobe-style beef with chanterelle mushrooms and buttermilk mini-potatoes, for example). Couldn't recommend this place enough for a special occasion with friends or family."

  • "The staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming, the dishes were absolutely outstanding, and the music and atmosphere were spot on. The experience at Community Table was worth the long scenic drive it took to get there."

  • "Community Table offers an outstanding dining experience. The food is superb with flavors that are inventive and fresh, the service is friendly and attentive, and the decor is chic and unpretentious. Highly recommended!"

  • "The restaurant is excellent; the service is a little slow but staff is very pleasant. However the noise level is excessive and can make conversation a challenge. Happy they now take reservations and have opened an additional wing with a bar."

  • "Second time dining at CT this year. The restaurant does an excellent job sourcing local, fresh ingredients and always tries new flavor combinations. The negative to this approach is that the combinations can be overloaded with ingredients or the seasoning can be off. The lovely fresh salad greens, for example, were completely overwhelmed by the horseradish in the dressing, and the squid ink pasta on a prior visit was so salty that we couldn't finish the dish. The effort, however, is noble. The restaurant is vastly improved from its earlier incarnation when no reservations were accepted and the kitchen was regularly out of many menu items. The staff is attentive and well-trained."

  • "10 out of 10. Small, intimate, amazing food, amazing service. Everything I've been looking for in a restaurant in CT."

  • "seriously one of the best meals I've ever had. I started with a cocktail called The Leatherman, which was a really, really nice, smokey, whiskey based drink, then my fiancé and I split the gazpacho for a starter ....which is worth killing for. seriously, it's that good. from there I had the strip lion, which was pretty much perfect....crisp sear on the outside , soft interior plus lemon potatoes and a spicy, warm, dill-cucumber side, plus Swiss chard. my fiancé had the halibut.... which was really nice as well. we split the strawberry and ricotta mousse...which was very good. (full confession: this meal was so good we actually went back two days later and I ordered the same exact thing with the exception of the dessert)."

  • "This is really a wonderful restaurant. It would compare well in NYC and is an absolute stand-out in Litchfield. We had the burrata, the buffalo, the duck and the lobster. All were tremendous. The sardine appetizer was a hit. Wonderful cocktail list; very good wine list. Really...nothing to complain about."

  • "Community Table lives up to its pledge of using local, fresh ingredients in unexpected and delicious ways. Have you ever heard of pickled green strawberries? The gazpacho was unusual and subtle. The food is beautiful and features interesting combinations. Only down side is that the tables are very close together and the front room is noisy. The recent expansion should help. It's expensive, but much better than similarily priced restaurants in Litchfirld County. It was our first time using Open Table for reservations, worked perfectly."

  • "Was not expecting to find such a gem of a restaurant!! The ingredients are all locally sourced (if you call VT local, the dinnerware is Simon Pearce!) and artfully prepared. They were more than happy to accommodate our gluten sensitivities. Knowledgeable, engaged and thoughtful staff."

  • "Recently, we drove in a thunderstorm, to Community Table. So many other people had done the same and that the restaurant was full, including the bar area, which is a recent addition. Dinner was, as always, worth the trip. I find the food there strikes a perfect balance, always creative and beautifully plated food that never gets too precious or pretentious. There are striking combinations of flavors, like duck breast with rhubarb and scallop crudo garnished with buckhorn berries, but these are chosen with care and restraint. Chef, Joel Viehland only adds ingredients that contribute by adding a painterly dash of color or by enhancing the natural flavor of fine, locally grown foods, avoiding anything that would mask their inherent qualities."

  • "Husband and I usually frequent mill at 2T, millwright and capital grille over in Hartford county. We decided to make the trip over to New Preston to try out a new place. So happy we did. Great place will amazing service. Food was delicious, dessert amazing! The crowd was interesting to say the least. Older couples, young couples. It was all mixed. Will stay for a cocktail in the bar next time. Couldn't this time as I am pregnant! Definitely will be back. Can't say enough good things."

  • "Four of us, self-proclaimed "foodies" went for a double date and did the chefs tasting menu. Each course was unique, well presented and delicious! Complete with a tour of the kitchen at the end of our meal. Definitely an experience more than just a dinner! We will definitely be going back!"

  • "We have been to CT many times, and always look forward to our next visit. The restaurant, itself, is beautifully designed, combining elements of a rural farmhouse and very modern Swedish decor. The space feels as fresh and meticulously conceived as the far-to-table fare, which is always elegantly presented, combines intricate and wonderful favors, and is constantly changing to reflect the local market offerings. This is a gem."

  • "Community Table was so perfect. The decor is modern, dark, elegant. We sat at a table near the bar and this area filled up but was not too crowded and noisy, it was just right (a little more spread out than the two tops in the regular seating area). I think the bar is new and you can tell they put a lot of thought into the cocktail menu, I loved all the options, very creative. The service was friendly but professional, the perfect mix. The food was outstanding. We started with smoked trout, then moved on to a buffalo entree and I had whole wheat pappardelle with figs and morsels - yum. For dessert we had chocolate pudding which was different than any I have had. It was a more solid texture with a caramelish flavor. Toasted meringue"

  • "My parents & I went for brunch today and had an excellent meal. CT recently expanded their space and have a much larger bar/additional dining room, albeit a different room with darker woods, which ties in beautifully with the original structure. We sat in the new section which was inviting and well laid-out. Sarah, our server, is always cheerful and pleasant...she's a gem. I had the pulled pork sandwich which melted in my mouth and the goat cheese added an extra dimension to an already excellent sandwich. My parent's both had the grass-fed burger and said it was one of the best they've had. We then had a delicious scone and walnut donuts which melted in our mouths. For those that want a nice scenic Sunday drive and a great meal, go to CT."

  • "We introduced my in laws to CT. This included a pair of vegetarians - and my 8 year old. It was another outstanding meal (although i understand Joel was away that weekend - kudos to the kitchen). As a large party, we decided to do some "sharesies" for the table so everyone could try the appetizers. From the always amazing bread - to the fresh oysters to the amazing field greens. My family was amazed (if not divided on the best appy). With success for the appetizers - we did the same with the deserts (although there was unanimity about the Fresh Strawberry Crumble). Although it was a busy Saturday - the staff was (as always) friendly and helpful (great advice on the Buffalo!). Thanks again. Can't wait for the next time."

  • "A real find in the area. They have expanded to seat more, so reservations should be easier to get. No snob attitude. Wish the menu changed more often. No other like it in the area. Prices in keeping with the quality."

  • "With the addition of the bar and bar room dining, there's more to love. Glad this is not in NYC, we'd never get a table."

  • "This restaurant is truly exceptional! The service was top notch, and the food was a culinary delight. It is pricey but very much well worth it. Everything was so fresh and the presentation was beautiful."

  • "Ordered the burger and chicken sandwich. We were splitting. Asked for the burger medium and it was rare. My husband had cut it and there was no way we could send it back. The chicken was just gross. The waitress said it was a white breast but it was gristly and didn't seem like all white meat to me. We were very disappointed. Probably won't be back anytime soon. Potatoes were a strange accompiament to sandwiches. They used to be different. Seemed like that should've been something as a side for dinner? We only like to eat organic, non GMO food so it's difficult to find places to eat. We were upset because it was a waste of money! Burger repeated on husband all day/night. Do you get meat from farms that don't feed their animals GMO feed??"

  • "Our first time, enjoyed the menu and dinner very much. The room temp. was initially too cold but we were offered blankets and the room temp. was adjusted. We felt the noise level was too high to be "romantic". The room was lovely, but we sat across from the bar and it was difficult to hear each other."

  • "Community Table is hot and cold! Hot because the cuisine is haute cuisine of finest charcter; cold, because the place has a cool, with it vibe! CT spares no attention to every detail, making it one of the finest dining experiences in Connecticut. You couldn't get a finer meal in Manhattan! I started with an appetizer of scallops infused with a nutty and light sauce that complimented the affair. The taste exploded in my mouth. Next, I devoured an amazing turbot, redolent and prepared perfectly, garnished with the freshest if vegetables. Really, even the French pressed coffee was an extra special treat! How many even upscale dining establishments take the care to prepare coffee this way? The deserts are unusual; warm hazelnut cake; yum!"

  • "Still talking about the dinner, the amazing, fresh bread, the halibut fish, the chicken, the fresh salad with almonds, topped off with a spectacular choice of wines. The desserts lasted 2 seconds at our table. We also loved the ambience and building design especially the new add on with the bar. Thank you for a fantastic evening."

  • "Food, service and ambiance were great. Not the first time we have been to this restaurant but this is our first time in the new bar area addition which recently opened up. Four of us at our table and we had three different entrees, Chicken, buffalo and Turbot. All three were terrific and I will say that the chicken was the best I have ever tasted. Our only complaint was the noise level in the bar, not from the patrons but from the music being played. It sounded like the speakers were either directly behind or above our table and I had to ask the waitress if the music could be turned down, and she was able to do so. If the music was a little softer it may have been okay but it was terrible music. We will be back and will recommend to others."

  • "Community Table offers clean rustic ambiance using locally-felled trees for their table tops. Their devotion to local ingredients continues with every nuance of their table-scape, place settings and meals. Every meal is like a picture at an exhibition - the colors and presentation are works of art almost too pretty to eat! Whether you are a vegetarian, pescetarian or carnivore, you will find the subtle balance of flavors and textures in every dish absolutely amazing. "

  • "This wonderful place offers the right, and absolutely delicious, combination of refinement, stylishness, and comfort. The ambience is elegant without pretense. Now, as to the food--we welcomed the very seasonal and local, sometimes surprising ingredients and their combinations to a superb result. Mr. Viehland is an exceptionally gifted chef, in our opinion. Especially wonderful were all the sea vegetables that enhanced the halibut that we ordered and the very interesting chocolate mousse-topped dessert. For appetizers, we enjoyed superb oysters and mussels. Excellent bread and butter deserves mention, too. So glad that reservations are now accepted, as it is so much easier to plan our visits."

  • "My partner and I had the best meals of our lives at Community Table this past weekend. After we were told that tasting menus were not available that evening, the chef came out to ask us about any allergies and then told us he could work with that. We couldn't believe it. Than the great manager, Jeff offered us a wine pairing with our tasting menu. The rest of the evening was absolute delightful and simply divine. Each dish we had was uniquely plated and mouthwatering delicious - from the first to the final dessert. We also got the pleasure of being served by head chef Joel and the pastry chef. The real icing on the cake was when Joel gave us a tour of the kitchen."
