Diner Reviews
  • "Starting with the service. After seating us, they gave us our ordered cocktails, and then gave us able time to choose whatever foods we wanted offering engaging conversation. Our food, we ordered Mussles severed in a unique Chile lime Yuzy broth. Different but really delicious. Our main course was steak (for me) and Opa (a Coles Special) for my wife. Both very good. The ambiance was enjoyable and all in all a very good dinner."

  • "While we've been to Cole's on several occasions, we had never ordered the filet before this occasion. It was absolutely incredible! Their homemade soups are excellent and the salads are crisp and attractive. There were four filets ordered at our table and each was cooked perfectly, from rare to medium well. The flavor was outstanding. Service was attentive, but not over-bearing. I recommend The Lexington martini, as well. Very tasty. Cole's is a little pricey, but well worth it. My only modest concern is that even on a Thursday night, the place is packed and quite noisy. Don't even think about showing up without a reservation."

  • "My husband and I came down from Cincinnati to Lexington to spend the weekend and go to Keenland. We stayed at the Hyatt and weren't familiar with downtown restaurants. I found this wonderful restaurant on the internet. It exceeded my expectations!! Eating plant based can be a challenge sometimes when dining out but Coles menu has something for everyone. I had the beet salad (without the goat cheese & prociutto) and it was so light and delicious! I had the Moroccan Butternut Squash Stew and believe me it is to die for!!! My husband being a rib man had the Asian Smoked Baby Back Ribs and loved them. The weather was beautiful so we sat on the patio and it was so lovely! The staff was wonderful as well!! This is a must go to establishment!!"

  • "This was my 5th or 6th visit to Coles and most definitely the worst. I got the table I requested about an hour and 20 minutes after my reservation time of 7:30. Communication between the hostesses and myself was awful. I had to inquire about my table more than once. When the table was finally ready they failed to even notify us. Server was all over the place, seemed rushed (same as last time when we had him). My Salmon (special) was good for the first half and appeared to have been sitting in water as the other half was mushy. My wife's Filet was very good. Dessert was only offered after server was told it was my wife's birthday. Will be a while before we return and that is unfortunate."

  • "Great food. Unfortunately third time there was not a charm. Many food items on the menu ( mostly seafood) were not available. My husband and I were seated at a corner table near a computer used by wait staff to place food orders. My chair was constantly being bumped by staff passing by. Our seating was also situated near a table of 8 loud mouths making it difficult to speak to my husband and hear him. Thank goodness our winnings from Keeneland paid for our meal. Time to try something new."

  • "This new restaurant in Lexington has a very good atmosphere. The food was outstanding. The only complaint I have is is seems like they crowded all of the tables together and the servers were dodging one another to deliver the food."

  • "Cole's offers a great menu, food cooked & seasoned to perfection, in a comfy French country-style setting. Family favorite for special occasions."

  • "I've been to Coles multiple times in the past few months, the food is always excellent. It's amazing we have this good of chef in Lexington. The Steaks are better than any I've had in Chicago or the Ft.Worth stock yards. His desserts are excellent if you have room. Famous celebrity chefs may have a huge challenge if placed against this restaurant."

  • "Unbelievable steak. Very good wine on tap. Knowledgeable and friendly staff. Side dish was a little late. Parking capacity is challenging. Valet would useful. My wife and I love the place. Great food and overall dining experience."

  • "My husband and I went for dinner. It was our wedding anniversary, and we were immediately wished a "happy anniversary" by our server. A complimentary small bottle of Champagne was brought to our table as well. I ordered a Caesar Salad and NY Strip, and my husband ordered the house salad with a Filet. Both were excellent, and I think the Caesar salad was the best I had ever had. For dessert our server brought us a complimentary plate of homemade cookies with a scoop of vanilla ice cream on the side. They were very good and the perfect end to our dinner. I would absolutely go back to this restaurant!"

  • "The grit fries as our appetizer was very tasty as usual. I tried the new tabbouleh salad and it was wonderful...wanted my husband to taste and pestered him until he did and then I couldn't get it back!! We both loved it.....light, refreshing and beautiful too. I had the kobe beef burger with fries ...licked my fingers and my husband had the seafood medley and loved it. We finished with sharing a huge piece of blueberry streusel cheesecake that is to die for!! Coffee in those cute little mugs and we were Happy happy."

  • "We had dinner in the bar on a busy Friday night. The restaurant was busy but the service and food were outstanding. They have a great wine list with many excellent choices available by the glass. This was our fourth time to dine at Coles and we are looking forward to going back again."

  • "I have had friends highly recommend Cole's. I went with friends for an early dinner and we each had an appetizer and salad. The panko-crusted avocado was topped with crab meat and looked wonderful but was a bit tasteless. The Brussels sprout salad was very good, though. My companions complained that their house salads were in need of salt. One of them had the brie appetizer and it was delicious. Overall I was underwhelmed given the price. I will give it another try based on the strength of the recommendations of my friends."

  • "Took my wife here on Friday and showed up an hour before we had a reservation and they took great care of us. Started with the mussels and they were awesome. I can't not order the NY Strip, its the best I have ever had. My wife went lighter with the pasta and it was great to share the two. They have come out with some spring drinks and they were very great and very fitting. Thanks for another wonderful evening!"

  • "The place was packed and the food was good. The portion sizes were very small for the price. I ordered the seafood medley and it was delicious. The problem was it consisted of 1 shrimp, 1 scallop, 1 2oz Salmon, and 4 Mussels. Very good food but over priced. My wife had the rotisserie chicken and it was very good and the portion was good."

  • "Getting past the décor, the food offerings are creative and add a nice twist to some traditional offerings. There are a few hyper-creative gems like the fried avocado with tuna appetizer. Their version of a wedge salad looks a bit different, but is really very good. At my table others ordered the Shrimp & Grits and rare Ahi Tuna. These were both fantastic. I ordered the Seafood Medley and it was pretty good, just not what I had expected. It is kind of a pasta dish with a marinara-like sauce. Nothing in the world wrong with it, just not stellar like some other things. My only real complaint is the cost of bar drinks: Nearly $10 for a Woodford and Coke is price gauging."

  • "Went for an early dinner at 5:30 with old friends in town for the Sweet Sixteen and ended up staying until 9pm. Tried many things from appetizers to dessert and everything was delicious. We especially liked our waiter Ben who was attentive but not intrusive and very kind. So glad to have a restaruant back in the neighborhood. Good Luck!!!"

  • "Nice place with very good food but our waitress seemed to be phoning it in. She wasn't very attentive. I think she was also attended to a large group of loud people at another table and that may have occupied her. On the other hand the person waiting on the table next to us seemed to be quiet helpful, even to us. As I said the food is great and the place is a real asset to the neighborhood."

  • "My husband and I went to Cole's with my sister and brother-in-law for my birthday. I had been very excited to try this place because my sister had recommended it highly to us...and she was right!!! It was one of the best meals I've had in Lexington and the wine was delish!!! Our server was excellent and very knowledgeable about the menu, wine, food, and anything in general...lol. The decor was very french country and the ambiance was exceptional. We will definitely go back :)"

  • "A great birthday dinner. We were a small group so we ate in the bar. A few ordered off the regular menu and others dined from the Bar Bites. All of the food was great - service was attentive without being intrusive - a perfect evening. This is the third time we've eaten at Coles and have been impressed every time. Be sure to call ahead to make reservations if you want to eat within the "usual" dining times of 6:00 - 8:30."

  • "My family (10 total) visited Cole's for the second year in a row for my Mom's birthday. The food was excellent (everyone has to try the Brussels sprouts & the Panko Fried Avocado..both are so yummy) and the service was great. It's a small dining room setting but very cozy & everyone enjoyed the experience."

  • "Two of us ordered the same salmon salad....and they did not match the menu or each other! Mine had red peppers....her had cucumbers of which neither item was was listed as an ingredient. Plus, the menu said red grapes, and neither of our salad had them. i enjoy your restaurant and I am a loyal patron, and will continue to be. I am not complaining, just letting you know."

  • "I can't think of enough good things to say about Coles! It has become my fave in town and I now eat there several times a month. They always have something new to try (spicy tuna avocado or tempura shrimp for example) and I can eat off the bar bites menu if I just want to have a glass of wine and light supper. Clay was our server and he did a great job. I love this place and can't wait until my next visit!"

  • "The ambiance...charming, warm and inviting. The service is very good, friendly and informative. The food....the food is superb. I had the wedge salad....loved it..the strip steak....perfect in every way....Cole's take on tater (grit) tots is to die for.....could have used a few more. My dinner date had the filet ... he raved over the tenderness and flavor...best he's ever had. We had a side of the best macaroni and cheese I have ever had and we finished off with the tiramisu cheese cake which was to die for.... Our server says that Cole does his desserts in house and we especially loved the delicious crust. Highly recommend."

  • "Our First visit to Coles was spectacular. This time service was still as good. Our dining companions love their dishes (which was basically what we had on our first visit), but were were not as impressed this time. We went out a limb...I started with the Wedge Salad.....nothing to write home about and drowned in dressing (Blue Heron has THE BEST Wedge I have had, but the rest of the meal was just ok, BTW). Then I moved to the Rotisserie Chicken and Risotto....Risotto was very good, Chicken was good, but nothing special. Hubby had the Asian Baby Back Ribs...tasty, but again, nothing that special. We of course finished with the chocolate chip cookies....a TOTAL must try. Grit "Tater Tots" with the filet...worth the trip to Coles 735."

  • "The place looks like a Victorian-era salon. Although it had great reviews, the service was very poor. The server had described the special as a rack of lamb however when it was served it was a lamb shank. When asked the server was rude and said "no, your wrong, I did not say that." The food was somewhat bland and overpriced for what it was. That was the consensus of our group of four."

  • "Has never disappointed....we knew that the menu was prefix....standard for most restaurants on Valentine's Day. From beginning to end it was fantastic....seated promptly .....drink order..favorite wine....apps.. loved the shrimp and the chicken satay...salad ..brussel sprouts and bacon yum....entree I had the beef shoulder and my love had the scallops ...delicious.....dessert...chocolate mousse and flourless chocolate cake...Perfect with a great cup of coffee."

  • "The consistency of the food at Coles is what brings us back time and again - it has become our go to restaurant in Lexington. Both the main dining room and the bar menus have a nice variety (my personal favorites are the Brussel Sprouts Salad and the Moroccan Butternut Squash Stew and I'm not a vegetarian!). The wait staff is attentive, but gives you time to enjoy both your food and your companions. Would definitely recommend reservations."

  • "Yet another amazing experience at Coles! My best friend and I enjoyed the avocado appetizer which was amazing! She had the snapper special with chopped salad and I had the seafood medley with the grilled Caesar salad. Everything was delicious! What I love most is that you can always count on the service, quality and ambience to be amazing. Even more, though, Coles always has something new for you to try. I never get bored with going there and that's why Coles is my favorite spot in town."

  • "Decide to hit up Coles for something light instead of a entree type of night and ole my goodness it was great once again. We got the burger and wife got the french dip and they were the best. This is a "can't miss place". I love to see they they are carrying some of the local craft beers now. Thanks a bunch."
