Cochon captures the true essence of Cajun and Southern cooking. Chefs Donald Link and Stephen Stryjewski bring their love for southern Louisiana foods to every plate at Cochon. Donald's experience cooking with his family at their homes in Crowley and Rayne allow guests to share in his passion for real country and home cooking. The food is focused and simple, featuring roasted meats with natural sauces, homemade sausages, and fresh local seafood. The menu compliments the rustic, yet contemporary setting of the dining room. We were seated right away. The food and drinks came out promptly. Everything was cooked perfectly. Overall, amazing experience. Would def recommend eating there if you are in town looking for a hidden gem, although I'm sure everyone has heard of it by now."

  • "Loved this restaurant. The large open room gave a relaxed feel while enjoying great food. Open kitchen is always fun to watch. The atmosphere is casual and relaxed - Service was attentive and timely although we were dining at shift change so may be hard to judge. Food was amazing. My husband and i split several small plates and one entree. The smoked pork ribs were falling off the bone and delicious! For a great salad try the roasted corn with fried chick peas. Absolutely yummy! I would definitely like to go back and try other dishes. This is a great find."

  • "Lunch at Cochon was long, delicious and memorable. Service is excellent and the taste combinations are outstanding. If you love cooking, love food, then go here. We went at lunch because we like to take our time. Table are far enough apart that the meal was quiet. Have no idea what dinner would be like. Our server's suggestions about beer were excellent. Gumbo is outstanding compared to gumbo at four other restaurants we visited. Pork cheeks so tender it fell off the fork. Grilled oysters are superb. and so was the rabbit with dumplings. You get unexpected pairings of flavors and it all works!"

  • "This was my second time to Cochon - first time was amazing - this time was mediocre. Brisket was mostly fat- I understand that brisket needs fat- but not all fat! Oyster BLT was solid but coleslaw tasted like it been kept in the hot kitchen for too long . Smoked Ribs with pickle rind were good but the rind was hardly there. the restaurant was not full but hostess attempted to seat us at the worst table. There are 4 better tables. We declined the table and the hostess gets mad. We opted to sit outside - again offered the worst table. Fearing the hostess we take it - the concrete under one seat is broken and worn away. C'mon Chochon pay the money and fix the street your tables are on. Respect your patrons offer them the best not the worst."

  • "I so wanted to go to this restaurant and tried booking it in advance. The evenings were booked solid for weeks. So, we opted for lunch. I am glad that we did. The service was splendid, the ambiance---friendly and inviting, and the food....the food.....simply irresistible! Our waiter guided us through the menu like a tour guide and shared with us (quite candidly and with honesty) which of the specials he would consider if he was one of us! Pork cheeks, pig tails, alligator----you name it---it was all good! It would be foolish to pass up an opportunity to dine with these folks! Would I do it again? Absolutely!!!!!!!"

  • "The pork ribs with watermelon pickle was amazing! The fried alligator is nothing special because it is so heavily fried but not a bad choice if you want to say that you've tried alligator. The oysters were also ok but the sauce on it was a tad salty. Overall not a bad experience except the service. The service was unlike the food. When asking for lemons for our water, our waiter asked if I wanted lemonade instead in a snarky voice. And at the end of the service she waited right behind me while I signed my check which I found rude. And as soon as I signed it, she didn't even wait til I closed the book to take the receipts."

  • "We were excited to try this restaurant as we had been told we must go. We both thought it was nothing spectacular. The country ham and cheese straw appetizer was very good. Our entrees were good but not great. I had the red fish. It had a nice flavor and was cooked perfectly. My dinner mate had the brisket. It was ok, the potato salad it was served with had a nice horseradish flavor. Our server was disappointing. She was not very present and did not offer us any daily specials (which we heard being offered to the table next to us by another server). Our drink server, however, was very attentive and efficient."

  • "We went for a late lunch and had the fried alligator, rabbit & dumpling stew, the smoked hamhock, and a very generous side-order of baked mac & cheese. Highly recommend all items, although I found the breading on the alligator a little heavy. Everything was well-seasoned and hot, the service courteous and swift, and the ambiance was lively without being overwhelming. I would say that sitting across from a gas station and facing a road leaves a lot to be desired in terms of view, but that isn't really something the restaurant can control. All in all a well-deserved 4 out of 5!"

  • "Cochon is known for meat dishes, but for me it's the sides that really stand out. My nine-year-old daughter and I came here for lunch. We ordered cauliflower and bread soup, cochon with vegetables, lima beans, and macaroni and cheese. The soup was my favorite dish, and the vegetables accompanying the cochon a close second. The soup was rich and creamy, and the vegetables were slightly tangy and very tender. The mac and cheese was perfection. My daughter was the only child in the restaurant at the time we went, but I think this place is fine for children. It's somewhat casual, and there is a lot of kid-friendly comfort food on the menu."

  • "My party of 4 was delighted with the experience at Cochon! We started with a one of a kind fried alligator appetizer whose clever use of mint kicked off a meal which won't soon be forgotten. I ordered a bowl of their cauliflower/bread soup of the day which was very well balanced requiring no additional seasoning. For the entree, I enjoyed the broiled oysters, which were by far the best oysters I have ever eaten. The master chefs at Cochon managed to concoct a very tasty garlic, butter, + magic seasoning which is applied during cooking that was unlike other chargrilled oyster eateries and was perfect! The dish which was offered as an appetizer, had 5 very large oysters placed on a bed of rock salt. Positively Delicious!!!"

  • "The food was outstanding. Three cheers for the ribs and the mac n cheese. That said, our waiter was a little less the welcoming. We were surprised at both his attitude and his words. Also, it was a particularly cold day, and every time the door opened, a chill spread through the restaurant. A simple shade could easily help this. We were well back into the restaurant and couldn't take our jackets off once throughout the entire meal. All in all, wear a sweater, ignore your waiter, and enjoy the scrumptious bites."

  • "Let me preface this by saying that I've eaten all over the world, and I do enjoy tasting local cuisine. The food here at Cochon (and especially at Butcher) is very well done. The flavors are robust (although can be heavy-handed at times), and the menu is innovative. So for what it is (high end Cajun), it is very good. Would I say that it was the best food I had on the trip? No - there are many good newer restaurants on the scene (such as Root or Sobou) that can offer food that is more remarkable. If you want traditional cuisine, don't get it here. But if you want a good twist on Cajun, and eat a meal that is above and beyond your normal experience, then try this place out."

  • "I arrived by myself and was seated promptly. Service was attentive, polite and not overwhelming. It was early (5:00), so not too crowded. Food recommendations were directive in that they knew the menu and made suggestions, but didn't try to push any one thing. Every item I got, including the little rolls they serve, was very good. My only complaint, which goes for many restaurants in the immediate area, was limited parking. Although there was some metered parking, that appeared full. There was a paid lot across the street for $10. So, the parking was there, but I wonder how many restaurants down there would think about valet parking. Hmmm. Would highly recommend the restaurant."

  • "We have heard about Cochon from several people and it certainly lived up to the hype. We had dinner there our first night in town and it was spectacular. The entire staff was very friendly and professional. Our waiter Jeremy was extremely knowledgeable about the menu, wines and drinks and was very helpful with all aspects of our evening.   • "I really, really wanted to love Cochon. We've been to the butcher a few times and loved it so we thought Cochon must be amazing. The appertizers were great - oysters and fried alligator. The entrees of brisket, rabbit and dumplings with smothered greens and mac and cheese were ok but underwhelming, and way too over seasoned. The brisket was oily and the rabbit was so over seasoned it's all you can taste. The waiter seemed nice but when I asked him how the greens were prepared he simply said 'with pork'. I don't know if that was arrogance or ignorance. It's a shame, with how busy this place is you would think it would be amazing."

The person that brought our food was way better and very informative, as we had questions regarding the "Butcher" store next door. I guess because we only ordered some small plates, the main waiter wasn't that interested."
