A word from CO-OP Food & Drink
Located on the ground floor of Hotel on Rivington in NYC’s Lower East Side, CO-OP Food & Drink is based on the co-operative principle of bringing together different services and products under one space for everyone’s benefit. Under the leadership of Executive Chef Victor Startek, they bring together different ingredients, flavors and cultures that reflect the diversity that is the Lower East Side.

This philosophy allows guests to enjoy a variety of plates such as the Tuna Tuna Yuzu Sushi Roll (w/ spicy tuna, tuna, avocado & yuzu dynamite sauce), Shredded Pork Belly Tacos (w/ Ancho BBQ, Smoked Creama, Beets), Fried Chicken Biscuits (w/ ranch & pickled jalapeno aioli) and Miso Cured Salmon (w/ peanut sauce, watermelon radish & pickled celery root). In the spirit of a co-operative, most of the dishes are designed to be shared family-style through multiple courses.

  • "I'd walked by this place frequently but never went inside. The ambience was great and the good was very tasty. I would definitely go again!"

  • "I wouldnt say this place is fit for foodies, menu wanst special and kind of expensive for what you get. The decor and drink menu make up the entire experince and would make me go back. A good place to take a group new to the city but just be prepared to spend $$$."

  • "M-TH, Co-op does 1/2 off a bottle of wine! Amazing! I love hanging out with the girls here. Yet, the catch, you cannot do it with restaurant week! I found this a bit unfortunate because we were excited to have a fabulous night out. Nonetheless, the wine list is basic, i do appreciate that it is not snobby. Food is good, but the prices are odd. The waitress does not seem to know much about the food or care if you order a little or a lot. The cocktail are really fun though. I would recommend going to the bar and having some drinks. Pass on food."

  • "I have been to Co-Op multiple times and this was my worst experience. Food still spectacular. House cocktails still amazing. Less than enthused with my waitress. She couldn't give a...about our orders, messed up my friend's 2nd round drink order (same as 1st, but brought someone else's 1st round to him). Also, their menus are printed on cardboard and look like the ones I saw when I was there for pre-open. Stained, torn, beaten up. Doesn't speak well to a place that isn't a cheap eat."

  • "CO-OP has an awesome vibe with giant prints of notable celebrities, most of which seem to be associated with NYC. The place is usually rather empty, which is surprising since the food is good. Maybe the food is a bit expensive for being predominately small plates and located in LES (which has several cheap eateries), but the pricey is nearly on-par with other restaurants downtown. That may reflect the lack of a scene, or maybe it is because the restaurant is so far in the back of a a hotel, but this is our second time there, and we really enjoyed it, and we prefer a place that is not too full. We had the fish curry, scallops and salmon, which are all larger places and fully worth recommending. Our server was very friendly and helpful. "

  • "Food was good, but we went for brunch at noon on Sunday, and were quite literally the ONLY people in the restaurant the entire time. Made me nervous..."

  • ""Meh" is probably the best explanation for my experience at CO OP, the place was completely dead until about 10-10:30 (Saturday night), which was kind of embarrassing as I had a group of friends in from out of town. They try to do "small plates" which is usually great for groups.....however you can't actually share any of their small plates, except the Sushi Rolls (very hard to share one taco or slider between six people) so it ends up being a mess (interesting concept). Best thing we had were their traditional beef sliders (but not everyone could try them), and the CO OP roll was very flavorful. Service was not bad and not good..."

  • "In Sept. 2013 went for a bday brunch with a pretty big group. It was amazing, food, drinks, music and service were all great. Good bubbly and yummy peach puree in the bellinis.. Went back in March 2014 for another group brunch and was slightly disappointed with the drinks. The quantity was great but the quality has gone downhill significantly. The quality of champagne has decreased significantly, felt like we were drinking mimosas at a college party and that yummy peach puree was nowhere in sight. It was so bad a group who is filled with pretty big drinkers even left some of the drinks on the table and that is an absolute first. Service was still great, atmosphere fun, and food was yummy but we wont be going back here sadly for the brunch."

  • "This LES restaurant is not a standout but excellent if you are looking for inventive ways that Japanese cooking can be served. Not everything here is Japanese (e.g. . the pulled pork slider was great). The miso cured salmon dish was excellent and the meat moist with a nice shredded lemon sprinkled salad on the side. The mustard glazed short ribs were tender and flavorful. All sides cost extra. This practice is not exactly to my liking but I do have to say that the miso glazed mushrooms (several varieties) were excellent. If you go early (Say, before 8 p.m.) it will be relatively quiet. Go after that and all bets are off. The shape of the room and the hard surfaces are guaranteed to make sound bounce all over the place."

  • "Culinary perfection at a reasonable price coupled with immaculate chandeliers and carefully curated lounge music- I'm in love! My favorites were their fried chicken (on a biscuit with picked jalapenos) and their decadent sweet potato pie (topped with bruleed marshmallow)."

  • "I reserved a table for 8 for a bday brunch at 2pm over a week prior to our reservation. I called the day before and was told there were no issues and everything was set. However 3 hours before we were supposed to be there, the restaurant calls and asks if we can come in earlier because they close at 3pm (kitchen closes at 2:45). I was furious! Why didnt they say anything before and did they really expect me to change my reservation (which was made at 2pm for a reason) and try to reschedule with 7 different people coming from all over town a few hours before? We arrived for brunch frazzled and anxious, but alas the food was damn good and we werent rushed out at all (stayed until after 4pm). Just be warned brunch is only to 3pm on weekends."

  • "A great place for a romantic date; came in for Valentine's Day and was very impressed. The food was great, and the service was wonderful; I wouldn't hesitate to come back or to recommend Co-op to a friend. Truffle popcorn is a wonderful treat!"

  • "I was just lookin for shelter from the stormy weather a couple of days ago, when i stumbled for the thousand time w Co-Op. I went in to warm down and down some warm liquor. I found the menu very appealing, so i called a couple of friends to join me and had a delicious dinner for an extrmely reasonable price. The sides are delicious and the sliders nicely done-if u order the beef slider make sure to ask for rare or else it'll be overcooked. The duck rice was exquisite and the duck perfectly cooked. Definitely coming back"

  • "Overall the food was quite good, I had the Short Rib and my girlfriend had the Steak Frites. The server was great; the kitchen, however, was slammed and our food took over an hour to get out of the kitchen. I do not blame the server and he was nice enough to comp our drinks so at least their service is good! The food was good enough and the fact that we had appetizers and good conversation meant that everything made for a good night."

  • "It took us an hour to receive food for a group of 6 when the restaurant was not crowded. The food was delicious but the wait would make me not suggest this restaurant to any friends. I would not return."

  • "Great vibe, lots of energy, good foods. We had miso salmon, buffalo brussel sprouts and taco flight, which were all great. Great art photos on the wall of celebs and notable NYC personalities. On a side note, the main dinning room literally had about 25 women to every one man, which could not have been a coincidence. Guessing the owner or manager is giving discounts to groups of girls. It inspired my wife to joke that she should have left me at home and had a girls night!"

  • "Read a few articles on CO-OP so I decided to try this place out. I didn't get to sit in the room with all the portraits because the hostess said there was no room for me and my boyfriend even though all the tables were empty and I had a reservation. Nonetheless the area outside of the portrait room was still cozy and chic. We ordered the spicy tuna with crispy rice, the CO-OP roll, and the spicy salmon roll. Also ordered a side of truffled mac and cheese. Everything was delicious! The drinks were not very well mixed but still decent. I would certainly go back again."

  • "I had higher hopes for Co-op but I guess you get what you pay for ($22 entree + unlimited mimosas/bellinis for brunch). We definitely got our money's worth in cocktails but the quality of the meals was subpar. 2/8 people's orders were pulled off the line before they were ready so they were completely wrong. It took so long for the staff to fix the meals that everyone else was already done with their food once their meals were finally ready. The servers weren't too knowledgeable of the dishes but did their best to rectify the mistakes of the kitchen. Overall the poor service took away quality time from my friends and I; for that reason, I don't think I'll be back."

  • "The food was delicious and the wait staff was great but sadly even at 8pm there was hardly a soul there and the head-banging metal rock music was too hard to handle."

  • "I went here last month and loved it. Thought all the food was amazing. Truffle mac n cheese, sliders, co-op roll, dumplings, duck, etc. I went back on Saturday and half the menu had been replaced. Might have changed chefs. The coop roll is still there, and definitely something to order. Rest of the food was okay."

  • "I initially tried CoOp during restaurant week a year ago & based on my experience w/the food and the service, I had not planned on returning. It was listed among the LES boozy brunch joints to try & a friend had scheduled it & I was forced to try again. It was really, surprisingly, great. The service & food were amazing & the drinks were flowing. We must have stayed four hours and had a great time. We didn't feel rushed and it really was an epic #SundayFunday. A few months later we were told that there were no longer unlimited drinks, but they had changed their policy to three drinks per person. I suggested limiting the time instead as most of us live for a good boozy brunch on the weekend. They haven't & we haven't been back."

  • "Food was good, but not amazing. Not worth the value. Service was good, but lack of individuality. Ambience was ok, quite empty for dinner hour. The music was changing into 3 different genres within the first 15mins we arrived. I was expecting more."

  • "Almost hope that the executive chef was on vacation. Staff was super friendly yet "unprofessional" what is supposed to be a higher end restaurant. Quick rundown of items ordered - hamachi tartar - something "off" with the fish. Don't think fish was turning but not an enjoyable flavor. 2 bites and when waiter picked up dish looked at me and asked how it was, responded that it was a little off and he said oh and walked away? Shrimp and grits - grits were tasty with tons of butter, bacon was good, shrimp were covered in what looked like chili powder but butter overpowered it. All parts were prepared well but did not pair well together, no complexity Purple potato roll - enjoyed Rivington sliders - excellent Asparagus - uncooked w/char marks"
