Diner Reviews
  • "The food was both innovative and delicious. We started with the frico, a new dish for us. The crisp, slightly salty cheese was addictive and both of us wish we had more. Our second item was a pizza and, while good, wasn't a option that we would select again. I think it just paled in comparison to the rest of the meal. We then had the catfish, again very good. The celery and fennel that it was dressed with complemented the flavor of the fish and cornmeal crust. Likewise, the collard greens were right on target--not too salty, not too much vinegar but, just right on both counts. The desserts were also unique. I had a chocolate pecan pie with orange gelato and my wife had a peanut butter cake with caramel gelato. Excellent meal."

  • "City House is always excellent. We had a varied selection of menu items, from the Pizza, which is true Neapolitan pizza, to soup, the octopus, and the new steak item, all cooked to perfection. Service is always perfect as well."

  • "Tandy Wilson & Co. still maintain the standard they set back in 2007 when this place first opened. Still the best, bar none. Keeps getting better in fact! If you haven't tried City House yet, what are you waiting for?"

  • "Booked a table before coming to town. Once we met a few locals I was really glad I chose this restaurant. The building is kinda funky /cool in a regenerating area. Service was warm and friendly and very knowledgeable. The food was better than I expected. City House could hold its own in manhattan. You have to try a pizza, and ask for an egg or arugula on top!"

  • "We loved the Frico! I'm not sure how they managed to create such an exciting appetizer out of broccoli and cheese, but we'll get this every time we go. My wife and I almost always get the The Gnocchi and a pizza to share and couldn't be happier with the meal. The first time we ordered the gnocchi it was made with a pork belly gravy. I did not think that could be topped, however the last two times it's been made with a cauliflower ragu that was equally impressive. We added egg and arugala to the pizza and will continue to order with these add ons in the future. The cocktails and beer selections are above average for Nashville restaurants and enjoyed the wine selections with the food we've had so far."

  • "This was our first visit to City House and while the food was really good, CH certainly wasn't what we expected. I had heard this billed as Italian and while they had a few Italian-esque dishes I wouldn't use that description. Food and Wine touts their meatballs as one of the country's best. But where were they? Not on the menu. We did try the ham belly pizza and house made sausage and a side of cauliflower and everything was absolutely delicious! Service wasn't great, there were gaps and our waiter wasn't especially informative, never asked if we wanted additional drinks besides water. The noise level is very loud also. Hard to carry on a conversation Definitely would ask to sit upstairs on the next visit as I'm guessing it's much quieter."

  • "We have been there several times now and it is consistently good. Innovative menu, excellent service and reasonably priced for a cutting edge restaurant of this caliber. Love the open kitchen."

  • "The City House restaurant was very good. Their creative menu and casual dining experience is an excellent choice in the Germantown area. I highly recommend."

  • "We go to City House every two or three weeks, and it's always great. This time, my wife and I had cocktails, a belly ham pizza, the cornbread gnocchi with braised short ribs, cauliflower salad, and we split a dessert (forget what it was called--a cake with toffee crumbles, etc.) Everything was great, and I already have reservations two weeks from now! And everybody's always so friendly."

  • "I have been wanting to eat here and I am so happy I finally had the chance. The server was wonderful and gave great recommendations when asked. This place is perfect."

  • "Had dinner last week and I would say it was very good yet was not a 5 star experience. The fresh pastas are wonderful and the vegetarian linguini offering that night was excellent. The gnocchi they make in house was not. It's a bread gnocchi that was crunchy - only OK. The chicken entree was good yet didn't come close to matching Rolf & Daughters version. I would not get it again. Service was helpful yet it took too long for the drinks and all the food. At one point our server apologized before we even mentioned it and offered to bring some bread. We thought that was a nice gesture and then took a bite of the stale bread and left it in the bowl. Nice intent, poor execution. I will still keep it on my go-to list."

  • "Another Sunday dinner at City House, which is when Tandy & co stray from the usual menu and concoct whatever they choose to cook that day. It's always outstanding and this visit was no different. Fortunately one of the typical Sunday mainstays is Pork Meatballs which I devoured. We'll be back often & I recommend this place to anyone on any day of the week. Tremendous food & service, along with an inviting atmosphere."

  • "I am usually not a huge fan of gnocchi. However Wilder, our server, recommended what I think is a corn meal gnocchi. It was OUTSTANDING! The braised oxtail sugo was Some of the best I've ever had. My wife and I were visiting Nashville. We met several people and struck up conversations about places to eat. Four people in a row, without hesitation, said the city house was there very favorite restaurant in Nashville. Living in Charleston South Carolina I am lucky enough to enjoy top notch Restaurants. The city house is as good as it gets anywhere and i recommend it to anyone I know visiting Nashville. Keep up the good work"

  • "I don't say this often, but City House really impressed me. It is one of the only restaurants I've ever been to where the wait staff was knowledgeable enough to provide useful recommendations (i.e.pairing wine and sides with the main dish). Given the atmosphere, quality of food and professional staff, I would have expected the meal to be significantly more expensive, but the prices were quite reasonable. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone."

  • "This was our first time to city house and we enjoyed our meal. We were visiting Nashville for a couple of days. There were 3 of us and we ordered the margherita pizza (w egg on top), the tri tip and the sausage of the day. All delicious!! Good wine list too with Italian wines. Our server was very helpful going over the menu and offering suggestions etc. it was very busy and we did have to wait a bit for our food but we enjoyed it once we were served."

  • "Eating at City House on Sunday evening is reay fun since they go off of the regular menu and try some new things. Overall, we were impressed by the food and great flavors!"

  • "Creativity must ooze from Tandy Wilson - the Sunday Supper surprises are worth every visit. He combines comfort food with childhood memories in a perfect marriage on a few offerings... And, then other offerings (like the pizza combinations) just make you go WOW - how did he think of that? Ultimately the word that sums it up: YUM!"

  • "This was our second visit to City House. One must sit at the counter instead of a table to watch the 'chefs in action'. They worked together in team fashion and the energy they exuded was almost exhausting to watch! The food was just as wonderful this time as it was the first. Their menu is so varied and different than other restaurants. And on Sunday nights the chefs produce a different menu showing their true versatility. We haven't experienced a Sunday evening visit yet, but we will!!"

  • "CityHouse was referred to us by a friend. It is truly wonderful, quaint, high end food at $15-$25 prices, clean, incredible service, and the location is in an old converted house that's been renovated with a clean, vintage look. Simply artful, cozy, and now one of my absolute favorite Nashville local restaurants."

  • "Our waiter was not willingness to work with us on having a 6yr. old. They do not have a kids menu. I thought they have pizza i am good. Not so much, they could not make a cheese pizza. He recommended a cauliflower pizza, said it LOOKS like cheese pizza. So we get that - it does look like a cheese pizza. But it has chili oil poured all over it. So that did not go over very well. They had a honey vanilla sorbet that with some cake. I asked if i could get a bowel of ice cream, no you have to get the whole dessert. We have other flavors of ice cream - nothing plain, so we ended up with blueberry which was okay. But just the unwillingness for our server to help us out and make something work put a bad taste in my mouth about going back."

  • "The food at City House is always phenomenal--from appetizer to dessert. It's just amazing. I will say that our server was not the friendliest this time...very dry personality, but that would be my only complaint. I've also noted that it is good for kids, as long as your kids are not insanely picky. They do not have a kids' menu, but my daughter thinks their chicken, margherita pizza, and butterscotch panna cotta are the best on earth. It's also very energetic, so it is a good atmosphere for older kids. My daughter is almost 10. It would not likely be good for really little ones. This was actually her pick for girls' night out with mom before heading to a downtown concert. It was perfect."

  • "Fantastic! We're regulars, and this was maybe the best meal yet: cornbread gnocchi with lamb, lamb chops, cauliflower salad, belly ham pizza, cocktails, and desserts. All excellent. Our favorite Nashville restaurant for the food and the friendly, casual atmosphere."

  • "City house rarely disappoints. Menu does not change much but the food is always good. My only beef is with the gelato. The flavours that night were all abit too wierd (espwcially for a small child) but we could not have the honey vanilla that was on the menu to accompany a dessert ... Surely they could make a little extra!"

  • "I love City House. Before my husband and I had a child, we used to go there a lot. We went recently after a long draught and had a wonderful experience yet again. The food is just as good as it always was and the wait staff is still knowledgeable, laid back and fun. The quality hasn't gone down through the years and that takes a lot of effort. Kudos to Chef Tandy and to everyone that works hard to keep City House special. The food is superb, the restaurant is attractive & I would recommend the restaurant to anyone. Yum!!!"

  • "City House is always and forever an unending giver of the best dining experience Nashville has to offer! It was a trend setter before the recent culinary boon and still holds it's position as a front runner! Our meal and evening with old friends was fabulous!"

  • "This is my second trip to City House. The food is EXCELLENT, SERVICE is great and would highly recommend a visit. I started with a small salad, that was just enough to get the ball rolling. My entrée was the Trout. This is the second time I have enjoyed this entrée and would get it again and again. What the chef does with this fish, is just totally amazing! I have NEVER experienced the technique or flavors anywhere else. The sides last time, were some kind of lima beans. I must tell you, while Lima beans as a kid were NOT my favorite, this dish will turn you around. Just out of this world wonderful and NOT as you would expect to see them. The side this time was collard greens. Little too much sand for my taste."

  • "I have been hearing great things about the Nashville dining scene and in particular, City House. I was there for business and had 2 associates with me. The service as exceptional - fun and helpful and the food was terrific! I will definitely be back."

  • "Every visit to City House is a great one. Service is always friendly congenial and professional. There is nothing like their fabulous pizzas and their inventive entrées. We had dessert for the first time this visit and it was scrumptious. City House is reliably the best restaurant in Nashville."

  • "I sometimes joke I would give up my first born for a lifetime supply of the marg. pizza. The menu changed slightly (just enough to keep things interesting) but retained the unique flavors and ingredients I've come to expect of city house. Never fails to impress."

  • "The food, service, and overall vibe at City House was good but, the price we paid for what we ate left us scratching our heads. We ended up paying a little over $70 for an appetizer, 2 entrees, and 2 deserts. We both drank water. The food was really good but the portions were tiny. Does City House specialize in French cuisine?"

  • "Looked like an old garage or something similar with an open kitchen that was fun to watch. Staff was most attentive ,even more so given this casual environment. Menu limited but making use of seasonal veggies (great) but found the food SALTY to the point iI was not being able to finish my meal.. Husband's pizza crust wood fire crisp but toppings were also TOO Salty to finish. Woke up the next morning with swollen and feet!!"
