Cibo Ristorante Italiano -
Best Restaurants in Monterey
food was dry and uninspired. Wine
list was unexciting. Very nice atmosphere in the place and the service was attentive and courteous. We all expected much more from the food."

We have visited Cibo's in the past
and had lovely dinners. This time we were underwhelmed. We were given a nice table, the waiter began the evening very attentive but became unavailable as the evening progressed. The food was okay, nothing outstanding."
Dined on 6/20/2014
we had a party of 8 for business
dinner. Our table was next to the band and cant really converse with each other. Food was not bad but services was terrible. We have to waive for the waiter to get us water & drink. The waiter broke the cork of our own bottle of wine. Had to flag down the manager to get our waiter to place our order and drinks. Missed an order and took them 20 minutes until we made a scene. There is no one really in charge. All the waiters congregate next to the kitchen talking amongst themselves. They don't have to give us services because the 12% - 15% gratuity is a sure shot. Never go back to this restaurant."
Dined on 6/19/2014
The price was right for an after
dinne meal, but not a place I would go unless I wanted a bar scene with music at night."
Dined on 6/1/2014
This is my second time here. The
first time was maybe 10 years ago. We had a big group staying at the nearby Hotel, so thought it would be a good place to try again. Their pricing was reasonable, the food selections were reasonable, the quality - actually didn't really hear much. I had the porkchop and it was okay, a little on the dry not much flavor. It was the waiter that made the overall experience -- a little much. If I thought he was new, I would give him a break. He seemed 'high'. He couldn't keep any of our orders straight, starting with the drinks. He took one beer order and left... so much to comment on.. but that is the brunt of it. Will I return, only if it is convenient location."
Dined on 5/31/2014
We have dined here several times
in the last couple of years and have always enjoyed our meals."
Dined on 5/25/2014
My husband and I were here with a
group (total 16). We were seated at 2 tables. That would have been fine but when the bill came it was all on one! So we had to have him split it and then he couldn't remember who had what. The music was so loud that you couldn't hear the conversation. I had to ask the owner to have the band stop playing for awhile. She agreed that they were too loud. The food and wine was excellent so we will return. We had eaten here a few days earlier with just 2 other people and the experience was so much better."
Dined on 5/25/2014
Our reservation was on a Saturday
night on Memorial Day weekend a 7:30 pm.....we were running a bit late and I called to tell them so. They said no problem. We finally got to the resturant just before 8:30 pm to find the place somewhat empty. This is not normally a good sign, especailly on a Saturday night. But surprise....it was great. We were to couples and and service was great, the food was good and around 9:30 or so a band played. So a good time to our surprise."
Dined on 5/24/2014
It was a OK choice but turned out
to be very average overall"
Dined on 5/20/2014
Service couldn't have been better,
food was AMAZING, atmosphere was wonderful. Great place to have a special meal or just grab a quick bite. Had the Sea Bass Special and it was to die for. Everyone's meal was delicious. Must try the Crème Brulee cheesecake. The BEST! "
Dined on 5/16/2014
We hosted a reception at Cibo and
the food and service were outstanding. Dinner followed for a smaller group, and the food and service were again outstanding ."
Dined on 5/6/2014
Loved coming here for dinner - was
perfect for just 2 people, but would also be great for larger groups. Food was excellent - pasta was al dente, food made from scratch. Our servers were very attentive as well. Would definitely come back!A"

Cibo is serves up fine pasta
dishes in Monterey. The Rigatoni Bolognese and Paparadelle Della Casa were dishes we enjoyed. The wine list is extensive. If I am need of a pasta fix the next time I am in Monterey, I will return!"
Dined on 4/19/2014
I've been to Cibo about 5 or 6
times. It's always predictable; never outstanding but always pretty good. Portions (on the pasta that I had) seemed small but it ended up being a sufficient amount. It's a good, consistent place."
Dined on 4/12/2014
I ate here twice during my stay in
Monterey. The first time was by myself at the bar. Even though I was the only one at the bar - service was slow. Waited 5 minutes just to be recognized. Food was great. Had to ask for bread with dinner. Came back with a party of four after our event and the place was very busy for a Monday night. The waiters were slammed but did a great job and the food was again very good. Would return again."
Dined on 3/24/2014
We were in on a Thursday and a
jazz band was playing doing 20's jazz, 40's hot jazz including Django Reinhardt among others - fabulous. I wish I could say the same about the food. We started with clams which tasted fishy and old. I had the aglio y olio which provided no relationship to the dish whatsover. My husband had the chicken arrostito which was dry and flavorless. I would definitely go back for the music but would avoid the food and stick with cocktails from the bar - until they improve the output from their kitchen."
Dined on 3/13/2014
Great combination of good food and
quiet jazz group in background! Also, good value!"
Dined on 3/8/2014
Service was fantastic as well as
the food. They really went out of their way to take care of 10 of us for dinner. Highly recommend"
Dined on 3/8/2014
we attended the San Carlos School
request to try Cibo's and whatever money we spent, Cibo's would donate 20% the church. We decided to try it and loved it. The food was fabulous. Probably the best fish pasta I have eaten. Tons of fish, flavor was excellent and our food server was well trained and very friendly. I suggest you do this more often."
Dined on 2/26/2014
I wouldn't have tried this place
had I not read such positive reviews about it. I ordered the Gnochi Trio and my wife has a pasta dish. Both meals were wonderful. The portion sizes were generous. All in all I'd recommend it."
Dined on 2/21/2014
We enjoyed our evening at Cibo.
The food was excellent and there was a small band that added to our enjoyment"
Dined on 2/19/2014
We gave specific details on how we
wanted our pasta dishes to be made, and still the kitchen made big mistakes. Also, the waiter was not attentive and rarely came to our table to see if we needed anything. The waiter did not seem to care at all. The food overall was mediocre, and very overpriced. The only good thing about this restaurant is the overall ambiance and maybe the live music."
Dined on 2/15/2014
Restaurant was busy however our
service was attentive and skilled. I would rate our meal as good."
Dined on 2/14/2014
We try to dine here whenever we're
in Monterey. Reliably excellent menu, and dependable serving staff. While the menu changes, the quality is top shelf."
Dined on 2/14/2014
The artichoke ravioli was
delicious. And I loved the arugula salad mostly because it has a perfect goat cheese medallion on it that is so yummy! I was sad that they did not have any of their chocolate desserts on the night we were there but the creme brûlée cheesecake was yummy too!!"
Dined on 1/27/2014
We had a wonderful family dinner
at this restaurant! The service was wonderful and the kids food was very good!"
Dined on 1/5/2014
I hadn't been to Cibo in years. .
.but tried it again on New Year's Day. What a wonderful experience. From the waiter to the dessert - I would come back in a moment! Thanks for making it all so delicious!"
Dined on 1/1/2014
Super yummy authentic italian
cuisine. The owner came up to our table and checked on us. She was sicilian and you could tell she cares about her restaurant. The food was delicious. The waiter however forgot about our table at the end. We waited for 15 min without anyone coming to check in at the end. To his defense it was busy and a saturday but still. The host was very accommodating. We had been hiking and our party looked a little to outdoorsy but he made sure we felt welcome."
Dined on 12/30/2013
My new wife and I spent our
honeymoon at the Hyatt Camel Highlands and had a great time there. On our last night, we wanted to find the perfect Italian restaurant in the area and we found Cibo through Google and selected it based on the positive reviews. The wait staff were great and attentive however the food was very disappointing. We ordered the BBQ Baby Octopus where the presentation poor but the octopus was not quite a baby. Instead it arrives in huge pieces that were very tough with the texture and taste of beef jerky. I ordered the snapper special and it also arrived at the table in pieces and with a very poor presentation. The side vegetables where completely overcooked. Very disappointing experience."

This was our first time at Cibo,
the main draw for us was to enjoy Holidoff's Jazz Trio - great local musicians. They played many standards in the hour or so we were there and we thoroughly enjoyed it - not too loud to make conversation difficult at all. The bruschetta appetizer was great and the perfect amount for two or three people. The ravioli entree was a large portion and very rich, tasty but I think I would opt for something less rich next time. My husband had the grilled salmon and said it was overdone around the edges but got better the more he got to the middle, the accompanying risotto was fantastic. Attentive service and support staff, we look forward to going back and sampling the menu which offered a nice variety of entrees."
Dined on 12/5/2013
I went during happy hour and it
was unbearably loud - should have paid attention to the Yelp review about the noise level. Wanted to try a nice restaurant in walking distance from my hotel, having tried another the night before. Asked to be put in a quiet corner because I was dining alone - but was seated right next to the other side of the bar. likely no other suitable spot that was staffed at 6:30 because not many diners at that time. Lobster and filet carpaccio was unremarkable; the complimentary polenta appetizer courtesy of referral from Marriott Hotel was similar. Ordered hearts of romaine - because I didn't feel like anything heavy - meat, pasta, cheese, etc. Service was distant; the noise was so loud I just wanted to eat and leave."
Dined on 11/20/2013
Consistently good Italian fare,
good service and live music. Artichoke appetizer fabulous -- the roasted artichoke and the balsamic reduction and cream garlic sauces are a tasty combination. Pear tart lacked flavor and the short crust was soggy."
Dined on 10/20/2013
We enjoyed a lovely dinner last
Saturday night. The Calamari appetizer was very fresh and enjoyed the Salmon with the blood orange sauce with bright flavors. Service was excellent and surprised us with a wonderful birthday dessert complete with a candle. Thank you for an enjoyable evening!"
Dined on 9/21/2013
Dined here several times in the
past and it was very enjoyable. The menu changed, the food went down hill and the service was fair at best. I won't be going back."
Dined on 7/27/2013
Good food at reasonable prices
with a friendly wait staff. You get it all. Recommended for those special occasions."
Dined on 5/12/2013
We enjoyed the jazz played during
dinner but the food was not very good. Tried calamari, bean soup, lasagna, chicken and polenta and none of it was good,"
Dined on 5/7/2013
We read some of the feedback about
slow service and decided to give it a chance. The restaurant has a lot of tables. We were the seventh table to have diners that evening. By the time we finished, there were over 30 tables filled. It is easy to see how this influx would tax the wait staff and kitchen. Going a bit early, like 6:30 pm is a great way to beat the rush. We had a good, reasonably priced Italian meal. I had the personal sized pizza, which was too generous to finish, and my spouse had the risotto, which was delicious. There was live music, which was a treat for middle of the week dining."
Dined on 4/28/2013
The place was super quiet.
Overall, service was pretty slow and food mediocre. My caprese salad was very bland and the rest of my table reported similarly."
Dined on 4/16/2013
Lovely dinner - wild salmon entree
was beautifully done, delicious. The waiter we had was great - a real human being, no nonsense and very attentive."
Dined on 4/6/2013
My husband and I dined here last
week and on the whole enjoyed the experience. The restaurant itself is very attractive and inviting. The menu is extensive and there is something for everyone. My husband really enjoyed his Salsiccia. My chicken dish was too spicy, but the staff took care of it very professionally. The wine list has some good moderately-priced choices. We also tried Cibo for happy hour and it was great. In addition, they feature live jazz--all too rare anymore. The service was a bit spotty--e.g., nobody at the front desk when we arrived and a waiter who was sometimes difficult to find, yet there were not many diners the night we went. The location is right in downtown Monterey – very convenient."
