Diner Reviews
  • "I've been meaning to go to this place for a while and finally made it happen this weekend. Some of our friends stayed at the Hard Rock Hotel and this was the perfect excuse to go. Everything on the menu sounded amazing and it took me about 20-30 minutes to decide what I wanted. I thought the portions would be tiny while the prices were bigger than life, but that wasn't the case. The portion sizes are perfect and are worth every penny. I spent most of my time watching all of the food come out and saying "I should have ordered that...and that....and that!" We are definitely coming back many times because there's so much I want to try. I had the Margarita Pizza and it was more than enough food (I'm a small woman). Can't wait to visit again!"

  • "Dined this past Saturday night 8-16. From the moment we entered the restaurant the staff could not have been more engaging, friendly, and knowledgable. The food was as good as the service. The lamb dish I had was fantastic, cooked a perfect medium rare and very flavorful. To cap off the meal we had the "junk food" plate of desserts. WOW! Decadent! Will be headed back there soon!"

  • "portions are very big and the food was fresh and delicious! Server was friendly and fun to talk with. Creamed spinach to die for! Will go back."

  • "Stayed at the Hard Rock Hotel over night and had breakfast reservations cancelled on us from another restaurant. I'm sure it's not meant to be a breakfast place, but they serve it. Our server was great, but the food wasn't. The pancakes were dry and nothing else had much flavor. Cool place - but I bet it would be better for drinks at night."

  • "I had made dinner reservations for my BF's birthday and we were pretty excited about trying a new place. The ambience is truly nice, the wait staff was OK. We had arrived at 7pm and by 9pm they were literally kicking us out. The waiters continued to push us to box up our food and were literally rearranging the furniture behind us. When we asked for another drink we were told that we needed to leave the area. I was very unsatisfied with that. They told us they had a private party arriving soon. BUT to our surprise they were bringing out a velvet rope for people to start lining up to be let in. Food was bland and not a huge selection. My guests and I will prob never return to this restaurant."

  • "Delicious food. Exceptional wait staff. Modern, elegant decor. Inviting yet exclusive. This restaurant makes you feel special for no reason and they are so accommodating to every guests' needs. Try white sangria!"

  • "Since my last visit a few months ago the number of items on the menu seems to have shrunk. Food and service is still great but disappointed on no selection of soup or sandwich daily special."

  • "The food was good but not great and the service was very lackluster especially considering there were not a lot of customers. With all the places in Chicago to dine, I'd certainly go elsewhere."

  • "We had a great meal. The burgers were cold, but they made new ones for us that were delicious!!! The chicken was excellent and so were the desserts!! We will go back!!!"

  • "Food was tastey, drink were great and the service all around was fantastic!"

  • "Everything tasted fine, but there was lots of over fried food, salads were over dressed, and our server got half of the orders wrong. We still had a good time, but it just all came off as unsophisticated and trying too hard."

  • "If you are there for dinner, obviously order an entree. I recommend the meatloaf. The mashed potatoes are to die for. Absolutely ask for the "Nibbles" and "Dessert" menus. The prices allow for more room to explore and the portions are often designed for sharing. I have to go with the crowd and recommend the waffle fry nachos and junk food platter. Everything is made in-house and everything is quite filling."

  • "Restaurant was completely empty so we were a little skeptical, had dinner reservations at 6:30pm. I ordered the Scottish Salmon & husband the "burger"for dinner. I took the first bite of my salmon & thought how awful...Tried one more bite adding the jalapeño sauce to the bite because something just didn't seem right. Hmm, salmon shouldn't be crunchy. Duh, they plated the salmon upside down with skin up. I flipped it over & saw a beautiful colored, seasoned salmon, but by then my stomach couldn't take another bite. My husband enjoyed his burger & fries. As we dined we realized that the entire restaurant was getting ready for a private party & being turned into a dance party/bar. Very annoying, the chaos & rushed feeling. Won't be back"

  • "My wife and I had the shrimp appetizer, strawberry salad, and wild salmon; all of the dishes were fantastic. All of the items tasted great, and they did not skimp on the ingredients."

  • "Having had a strip steak -- properly cooked medium rare -- that was gristly and flavored only with salt and some kind of cooking sauce, and my companion's having had a mediocre "Scottish" salmon, one may want to avoid anything other than the $24 burger (!!!!!) from this establishment. We went for a fairly early dinner, and once a small knot of office workers headed for home, the place was pretty deserted. And deserved to be."

  • "I was very disappointed with the service and food on Mother's Day - I expected something really exciting being this is a Kerry Simon Kitchen and there was nothing special about it at all!!! It took 10 min's to get a cup of coffee even though the restaurant was only 1/3 full at best. There was food from previous diners under the tables and employees out front smoking - I don't know how long this has been a Kerry Simon Kitchen and not sure what the plans are for the future - I can tell you that it will be shutdown if management doesn't get it together!! Very disappointing coming to the FOOD Meca Chicago from MI for this!!! "

  • "Attempted dinner Saturday April 26 '14 @8PM. The restaurant was nearly empty upon arrival. What we ordered was cold and under cooked. The waiter was unable to to correct the issue and seemed to be worried about sending it back to the chef. The manager told us that our feelings towards the food was wrong and implied that our palates were below his standards. I disagreed. The greasy calamari (recommended by the waiter), a near rare under cooked pork chop (recommended by the waiter), and cold cheeseburger (apparently this burger won "burger wars")... all three were unacceptable. In summary. Cold, food not prepared property, rude manager, empty dining room. I live in downtown Chicago so I never EVER need to go back to that place. "

  • "Chuck's food was delicious and it's clear that they are aiming for sophisticated junk food approach. The portions were very good-sized and the food was delicious! However, a double stack burger and spicy tots is still not worth $24, not matter how good it is. "

  • "Given the location, I expected so much better My sis in law and I had lunch ( a rare event, we try to make it special) and she picked Chucks because of its proximity to her office. Had I known how disappointing this restaurant would be, I would've suggested something two blocks in one direction or another. First off, we had to wait over 5 minutes til the hostess showed Our server was friendly-ish, but not fabulous I have a celiac condition and he treated it like a psychosomatic thing ("oh yeah, we've got a gf bun for that");'I'm used to clueless staff but this was borderline rude, All would've been forgiven if our burgers were exceptional They were not Not even close Maybe the next place at this location will get it right"

  • "Four us chose to dine here after attending a Sunday matinee performance at the Harris Theater for Music and Dance. It was not busy in the restaurant at this time. Service was very attentive and friendly. We each had different entrees and found all of them very good. Steak, lump crab cakes, pork chop and one a variety of appetizers, sausage, salad and soup. We also shared some desserts. Everything was well prepared and nicely presented. We agreed that we would return to this new restaurant in the Hard Rock Hotel."

  • "Apparently Chuck's used to be a different restaurant and in the last few months was revamped. I can honestly say I did not know what to expect when I went inside but this is a great restaurant. We started off with some "Strawberry Fields" cocktails which were incredible. And we each had the Iron Chef Burger for dinner and could not finish it. It was divine though, the beef was so tender. Fries were amazing and tater tots were spectacular. I would definitely come back here again."

  • "Chuck's is a great concept - cool and kicky for lunch with the opportunity to be hip and social in the evening. Great cocktail list - - with unique items like the Rootbeer Draft and the Strawberry Fields. Burgers were prepared as ordered but turkey burger was so bland that you could barely taste it - seasoning sure would have helped. Waffle nachos were very good AND unique and the Iron burger was the best of the batch. Organic chicken was again under-seasoned. The Smores dessert was delicious and super fattening. Our server was cute and very friendly - he certainly made us feel welcome and had lots of great suggestions. He was efficient and made our meal pleasant. All in all a very good meal - we will definitely try it again."

  • "Chuck' s had great service and amazing food! We had a 5 course valentine's day meal that was perfect, and was brought out in perfect timing manor. The only complaint I have is that I asked to move back our reservation 30 minutes because my fiance had to work later and they refused to do it. So we had to rush to barely make it on time and the restuarant was almost empty besides a couple other families for our entire meal and they could have easily let us come 30 minutes later."

  • "What a fun and different place for downtown dining! This is not the usual loop eatery, but it was perfect for an adventurous business lunch. The menu is not huge and burgers are featured, but there is enough variety to choose from. The ambiance is relaxed but upscale. We were there a little early for trying the bar, but will go back for the cocktail hour soon. Service was great, and we never felt rushed. There are tv monitors for a sport bar meets hipster vibe. The portions are good and the cheese crabmeat appetizer is to die for. Don't miss the dessert platter. Google some pictures. I would go back for the mini hostess cupcakes by themselves."

  • "A decent restaurant - a tad cold and sterile but the service was good and the food was decent. Given the many choices in Chicago I probably won't be back here soon but it is convenient to where I work so maybe I'll try it again. I would say they're trying to hard to be chic and trendy."

  • "Left the snowy cold Friday night outside and felt warm and welcome as soon as we walked in the door. The menu was perfect for my 20-something year old son who hates "fancy" food. Charred edamame and beet salad first. Both excellent. He had their burger. Only regret is that I forgot to take a picture of it. Major, but he finished it. Tempura brussel sprouts can make a veggie lover out of anyone. Dessert menu was enticing, but too full to even consider. So I asked the waiter if they had any fruit. 5 mins later he came back with the best looking berry plate I'd seen all winter. With 2 sauces/dips. Really, really good experience."

  • "Overall pretty good. The burger was amazing and the two in our group who ordered the clam chowder thought it was terrific. The only disappointment were the Caesar Salads. Both looked terrible and tasted just as bad. I don't think Chuck's serves too many salads. The lettuce was old, tired, wilted, light green, and brown. Pretty bad first impression. Good thing the rest got better."
