A word from Chop West Edmonton - Stony Plain
Located just minutes north of West Edmonton Mall, Chop is at the intersection of Stony Plain Rd and 178th Street attached to the Sandman Hotel.

Executive Chef Andrew Keen has created a sumptuous offering of fish dishes using the freshest SEAFOOD selected from local West Coast fisheries. ARTISAN BREADS, and decadent desserts, like our signature Fallen Chocolate Souffle Cake are created by our baker daily.

  • "We were seated in a separate room located at the back of the restaurant-no windows-no light. There were crying children seated in the same room which made it unpleasant to converse with one another Understandably this situation can surface anywhere you dine. It just added to the ambience of the room in general.. At the end of the meal I mentioned how dark and gloomy it was in this room and the server said "yes I know all the servers don't like serving in this area"! Very disappointed; will not be back there for quite sometime. Thank you"

  • "I had never been to Chop before but this was a great first experience. It was my 30th birthday. All the staff signed a card for me and gave me a coupon for an appetizer to use on my next visit.They even threw in a free desert (which was delicious - Caribbean rum cake!) The waiter was fantastic. Everything he recommended was delicious! The area we were seated in was quiet and private. Overall a great birthday dinner!"

  • "I like Prime Rib and understand it is going to be marbled but I had to throw away about 1/3 of it because it was fat. You could hardly cut it away from the meat. The rest of the food was great and I will go back just not for the prime rib. The server was a master of up selling also. I asked for water as well as the drink I ordered and was asked if I wanted Sparkling water ($3.95) or tap water. As far as I know all restaurants use tap water but they don't make it sound like you are asking for dish water."

  • "The menu was good, but not large. The server was quite knowledgeable about the menu and explained the specials well. The service was a bit hurried though, very much the American style of course, course, course, you're done. The food portions were adequate but not large. They mixed up my and my wife's meat cooking levels, but more than compensated for it through gift cards. The ambiance was nice, but a bit loud at times as we had a fairly large, young party next to us. Would try it again."

  • "Food was not very well prepared. We ordered lobster tail that came up to be very saggy. Same for the wild rice. It tasted more like a over boiled past. Staff was nice to replace it with a properly cooked wild rice. Waitress kept on coming up to push us to order, and consistently interrupted our conversation. It wasn't even busy so I don't know why she was so rushed."

As for the Prime Rib, good large piece of meat, but definitely not cooked enough. Stringy, good flavor, it maybe aged for 28 days but looks like they just butchered it, If you like mashed potatoes you will love theirs. As for the horseradish served with the meat, be prepared its a little breath taking to say the least."

  • "Steaks were pricy but good. Big plates and small amount of food. Seafood was not fresh. Lobster fettuccine was okay but very small piece of frozen lobster so it wasn't what I expected. Muscles were a big disappointment. Management took that off our bill which was a nice gesture Service was good but waitress was at the table too many times Interruping very frequently. Music was way too loud for a dining room maybe for the bar side but not for not dining room Can't say that we will be back"

  • "My husband & I went for a Valentines date on the 15th. I made a reservation online however I was not impressed that they placed us in the lounge for our reservation. Normally this would be fine but I was just shocked that when a reservation was made this was where they placed us. Overall though the service was good and the food was excellent. We highly recommend this restaurant and will be returning."

  • "Reserved a table online a few days ahead. Called to advise that me and my wife will be a few minutes late as there was no available parking. Got inside 3 minutes late for the reservation but front desk said that they cancelled it the reservation and had to wait around 15-20 minutes to get seated. Was offered some fried crab cakes, tried it and burned my tongue. The server didn't say that it was fresh from the fryer hot at all. Got seated ordered wings, 2 prime ribs steaks and sangria. Our waiter spilled some of my wife's sangria but still served it. He went back to top it off but it wasn't even close to the one served to me. I would have appreciated just giving us a new one. Then came the wings, slightly over fried but ate it, Steak was ok."

  • "Glad to have tried your lounge, one side great for large groups to watch a game on the big screen, other side had more privacy with the separate booths at different levels and then the tables on the main floor. The steak and lobster was cooked perfectly. The service was very friendly and treated us like family. Our waitress, wasn't in our face, yet she was attentive and showed she enjoyed what she was doing, not like other places where they couldn't smile at all. Parking was the only issue when we arrived, but will definitely come back soon."

  • "This restaurant has incongruencies.. many worked for us! and a many did not. All day when I was dreaming about our dinner (for Valentine's Day), I was looking forward to ordering seafood, vegetables.. grilled or however the chef may prepare and coupling it with rice or pasta and definitely adding a nice salad. The wine list was extensive and because it did not include an organic red, that was out. My trip to the washroom and overview of some of the dishes going by showed the portions to be tiny - at 5' tall and petite, seemed a bit small for me. Ordered a beer and had the burger and fries. It was THE BEST burger I have ever had and I would RETURN for it alone."

  • "Went to Chop West End recently. I had the Chop Experience with the French Onion soup and sirloin and crab legs. My companion had the chop salad and filet. My French Onion soup was very nice - hot (not always the case with french onion soups) and had a nice amount of onions and cheesy bread, the broth was quite nice also. My steak was done as requested and the crab legs were nice and meaty. My companions Chop Salad was nice, the dressing could have had a stronger blue cheese flavour. The filet was tender and very nice. The only disappointment was the rum cake - a dense white cake with minimal rum flavour (menu said it was soaked in rum), best part was the ice cream on top of the dessert. Overall a good experience, we'll be back."

  • "We arrived a few minutes in advance of our reservation time, only to find the lobby overflowing with people, mostly couples out as we were looking for a nice Valentine's Day dinner. Were got delayed in our seating, and the choice of tables was v. limited, but the manager was most accommodating, apologized for the delay, moved us to another private able and treated us very well. Food more than made up for the inconvenience of having to relocate, and service was friendly and swift. We'll definitely be back, but on a less popular occasion!"

  • "Don't bother making reservations here, as the reserved times are ignored (the other reviews indicate the same thing). When you ask about why you haven't been seated, then you are magically bumped up in the seating priority. Also, try to specify where you would like to eat, as it is an incorrect assumption that you would get a table in the dining room, not the bar (again, not the first person to have had this happen to, look at the other reviews). Do yourself a favor, skip this place, and go somewhere that you will actually enjoy the service and ambience."

  • "We went for valentines supper. For what you pay it's not really worth it. The keg or Olive Garden would have been better. We both had prime rib steak that was very fatty and seemed like it was cooked in the oven. We will not go back. The meals were all really pricey for what you get it's not worth it."

  • "We booked Chopfor Valentine's Day dinner three weeks in advance. Our reservation was for 7:30 PM. It was obvious to us that they had overbooked the restaurant because there were many people waiting to be seated despite them turning away people without reservations. We were finally seated at 7:55 PM. However, we were seated in the bar. The TVs were on playing the Olympics and with the sound of the blender in the background it was hardly the ambience we were looking for on Valentine's day. The food was good but the server was a bar server so wasn't what you would expect for a nice dining experience. Disappointing overall."

  • "I enjoy an excellent steak and have never been disappointed at Chops. The steak is cooked how I request it and is tender and juicy. I would recommend this as a night out or special occasion to celebrate. When I have been there I have not experienced listening to a crying child because they are tired and out too late; as I have in other places and I am not sure if it is because the dining area is large, but segregated in to booth areas therefore creates sound barriers. At any rate a most enjoyable experience and I would recommend Chops."
