Oysters brought me in, loud music chased me out. The service was friendly and fast. (Except when the 'boys' were chatting at the bar.) The food was fine. The prices are decent. The design is lovely. The concept is great. My friend and I were happy until they cranked the music and we couldn't talk anymore. We asked them to lower the volume a little and received a cold shoulder and a very slight reduction in noise level. I see this is an ongoing complaint from diners on Yelp and why Chewies does not pay attention to customers' complaints astonishes me. Too bad.

As a first timer for a group of 6 the server was absolutely wonderful as we had a but if an issue booking through open table. She was polite and happy to accommodate. The oysters were awesome as was the caeser. Most of the group were happy with their entrees and the servers were great! Definitely will have to come back for brunch!

The experience was awkward from the get-go when no one offered us drinks, menus or told us the specials even after we asked. We went for buck-a-shuck, and whomever was shucking the oysters had no clue what they were doing. They were not removed from the shell, the shells were filthy and covered in algae, there were bits of shell in with the oyster. The wine we ordered came in a tumbler glass, filled to the brim and spilling over. Considering the price of the wine- it really should have been served in a wine glass. The service was spotty at best, and a bit rude as well.

Although we did not have anything from the mains section on the menu we had most of the apps and a bunch of raw oysters and even was fantastic. Our server was great and knew how to make us laugh. Great local beers and the oyster sauces were well thought out and very tasty. Hope to come back next time I'm in Vancouver from Ontario.

Been here numerous times. Service always good. Food is consistent and tasty. Gets a little loud at times but that's part of the fun. Patio is great for watching Kits peeps come and go. Highly recommend calamari appetizer & fried chicken. If you're an oyster fan you can't beat "buck a shuck" in the afternoon and on Monday nights bottles of wine are 1/2 price. Make a reservation!

After having to park several blocks away and seeing the crowded restaurant at 6pm I expected a memorable experience. Overall, the menu is suedo Creole but lacking in seafood. Not bad pricing and service was good but suggested min tip of 18% is a bit presumptuous. Overall ok experience . Another one ticked off the list of to- do's

Chewie's has hands-down my favourite brunch: perfectly crispy chicken and waffles. The honey butter you get with it is to die for. Hint: pair up your brunch with a few fresh raw oysters and a Caesar. I always have excellent service here and the atmosphere is fun. It's a great spot to hit before or after the beach.

Others have commented on the noise level at Chewie's but this does not appear to have been noticed. Although food and prices were good, and service competent if not too interested in a table of 3 middle aged patrons, the noise level was so loud that conversation almost impossible. Management would do well to note this oft repeated comment and consider toning down the volume a bit.

Our appies came out fast but entrees took forever to come out. Fried chicken was good but mashed potatoes came out stone cold, hard and lumpy like it had been sitting out for hours, green beans were cold as well. They replaced potatoes and beans which came out much better and our server took the entree off our bill which was nice. Overall, food and service was average not what we expected for something that was featured on TV. We left a little disappointed.

  • Undercooked - over poured- overkill
    Thought4food
    Dined on 6/26/2014
Vegetables and potatoes were ice cold after a bit of a delay for the food - oysters and meat were the usual high quality- the waiter was stunned when I asked him not to full pour for some of our party - my second glass of wine was poured on a rocky table so it naturally spilled all over before I even saw it - lucky we had some spare napkins in purse or I would have been wearing it... I come to Chewies because the food is do good - don't understand the need for the over pouring nor for the loudness and in your face waiting style.. The food speaks for itself - the rest is juvenile overkill

Group of 4 went there for happy hour. Website mentions 2 deals at this branch- a buck a shuck and half off the first bite items. The waiter said promotion for half off first bites items was not on. They should have updated the website so customers wont be disappointed. Good thing is that the fanny bay oysters were sweet, only very few pieces of shell pieces found in the oysters. Will still go back if i happen to be in the area

This was our 10th visit to this restaurant and we had a very negative experience at Chewies Kitsilano. We waited a very long time for a table even though many were empty. Which seemed personal because the restaurant wasn't busy. Finally was able to order drinks & shucked oysters, arrived with bits of shell. They needed a better rinse before serving... Asked for a glass of ice and received an eye roll. The staff here used to be friendly and attentive with a nice relaxing atmosphere. NOT ANYMORE! Not sure where the attitude and temperamental service came from. Will not be returning or recommending this restaurant.

We came for a birthday dinner with a 2-year old. Unfortunately there are no high chairs or booster seats, but they put us in a booth with a bench. Then, the staff found a large tablecloth that was folded up and in a bag which they brought for our little girl to sit on. Perfect! The service was excellent - the server was there when needed but not overbearing. Food was delicious, plentiful and very reasonably priced. We'll be back!

I went here with my granddaughter who recently started working at UBC. As a San Francisco foodie, I was anxious to try a very well recommended restaurant (by 2 different locals). We were not disappointed. The service was very friendly and efficient; the food was awesome! I rarely eat meat, but decided to try the brisket which the waiter heartily approved of and which I had never before eaten. It was so tender and flavorful; you didn't need a knife to cut it. There was so much of it, I gave half to my granddaughter who was happy to take it home. The only negative was the noise level, but I guess if you're among the younger generation it wouldn't be a problem.

I went to Chewies for the first time this week and had such a great experience!! Amazing food (the fried chicken is just as delicious as I've heard about), attentive and friendly staff, and a nice, chilled atmosphere on a sunny, spring evening. There wasn't enough room on the patio, but sitting inside across from the open kitchen was pretty cool. Every dish we had was great, and though we were stuffed we had the beignets and red velvet cake for dessert and managed to devour those as well!! I'll definitely be back the next time I'm in town :)

Service was slow, 2 out of 3 dishes were not up to par at all, the one that was good... chicken & waffles! Not to have--Biscuits and gravy with sausage or bacon - gravy was like dishwater and biscuits were doughy....Crab benny - So dry and crab was VERY "off"

We had a bunch of problems with menu items but the manager made it up to us, so I don't want to criticize here. I do want to mention that despite my advance reservation and the many empty tables at the time of our arrival, we were placed at the very far back last possible table. But, I simply asked for a table up front and we were accommodated.
