ChestnutThis is one of our favoriteThis is one of our favorite restaurants in Asheville. Great food, wonderful service and the souffles are the best anywhere!!!5/14/2013 12:00:00 AMWe had a great time. WonderfulWe had a great time. Wonderful food, unique menu with an amuse and home baked bread.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMMother's dayMy daughter and I had a lovely time. We each had the beet salad - I had lobster cakes and she had smoked salmon. Also had the bread basket which we paid for - should have been free, especially for Mother"s Day! Too full for dessert.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMParty of EightMade reservations about three weeks in advance and they called the day of to confirm. They were able to accommodate us earlier than our reservation and had table all set for us. Food was excellent. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed their meal. Service was great. Would definitely go back.5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMOur best dinner in AshevilleChestnut has a very pleasant ambiance and the interior is nicely decorated. The food was fresh and delicious. It's worth paying the $3 for the bread basket; the rolls seemed to be freshly made and were great. We had two entrees, a chicken dish and the trout. Both were perfectly cooked and we thoroughly enjoyed our meals. We highly recommend Chestnut.5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMCreative Cuisine in a Great SettingMy husband and I stopped in for a mid-afternoon lunch. They were very acomodating even though we came in at an odd time (between lunch and dinner). We were very pleased with the friendly service and overall ambiance. The lobster pot pie was excellent. The seafood cakes were OK. They have a great draft beer selection.5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat addition to Asheville dining!First visit and all four of us enjoyed our meals. Salads were uniquely prepared with fresh ingredients. Entrees were perfect: Korean Ribs, High Country Boil, Mussels in Thai Curry, and Salmon. Not a bite left on our plates. Dessert was over the top delicious. Lemon Curd Cheese Cake with Blueberry Sauce and Apple Pie. YUM! We'll definitely come again.5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMNICE FIND ...We live in the Asheville area and love Corner Kitchen which is owned by the same owner as Chestnut, so thought we would try it for lunch. The restaurant is in a very old building but with very modern decor and furnishings. We liked the idea of booths for two. Staff were all very friendly and service was excellent. The food was very good, although I had to send my undercooked burger back. I find that my medium to well done requests often come back undercooked by some chefs! The lobster bisque was delicious and the lobster pot pie was also very good. We also thought the food prices were reasonable.5/8/2013 12:00:00 AMGood choicesOne thing that impressed me about the menu was that a person could literally make
a meal off the appetizer list, called the "medium plate" menu. We did not, but we did order
an appetizer and it was huge.5/6/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat PlaceWe were in Asheville for a long weekend and wanted a nice meal. Inside is very neat looking and the food was great. Service was very attentive but not overbearing.5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMGood food; mostly straightforward;Good food; mostly straightforward; all nicely prepared. Service friendly; perhaps a tad hurried.5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMDelicious take on southernDelicious take on southern comfort food that is sourced locally, as well as lovely service!4/28/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent! Absolutely thinkExcellent! Absolutely think that Joe & Kevin have done it right -- wonderful food, great touches and a new gem in Asheville.4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMWe'll Be Back!A guest and I were both impressed with Chestnut and happy with our dinners. The restaurant is simply designed but pretty and welcoming. Hostess and wait staff were friendly and helpful. We both had fish, beautifully cooked, with interesting seasonal treatments. Desserts were good but not quite up to the standard set by the entrees. We will definitely return.4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMFood and service were good.Food and service were good. The "energetic" noise level was distracting and not conducive to conversation; however, it was 9 PM on a busy Saturday night so the place was hoppin'. It's probably somewhat quieter on a less busy night.4/26/2013 12:00:00 AMVery happy with our experience.Very happy with our experience. We had our two kids with us and were nervous about that but we were treated very well. The head chef or owner came over and played with the kids and offered a basket of bread to keep them entertained. It was great!4/26/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat food, however dessertGreat food, however dessert was very sweet; it was salted caramel chocolate torte and tasted sugary not salted caramel or chocolate.4/26/2013 12:00:00 AMNo space here for adequate praiseWe went to Chestnut to support Dining Out for Life, and were glad we did. We met a friend for an early dinner. The menu shows a little sense of humor, and everything we experienced there bore that out. They tell you that the petit fillet is really petit, and they're not kidding, though it might be just right for a small appetite. They have some inventive and tasty cocktails, and a small but probably quite good wine list. I was unfamiliar with most of the wines, which is good, because you don't want a wine you can buy at the grocery store. Our very friendly waiter made an excellent recommendation. I was going to say some other nice things about this place, but Open Table won't allow me space. Great for fish.4/25/2013 12:00:00 AMSit in the back if it's crowdedSit in the back if it's crowded and you want to talk. But it was a particularly festive night.4/25/2013 12:00:00 AMDowntown DelightGreat restaurant owned by the folks of Corner Kitcshen fame. Previously had been here for Brunch and this trip was for Lunch. Nice options on the menu to select from, and all four of us were quite pleased with our lunch experience.4/25/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent food and the serviceExcellent food and the service was great. The food is locally sourced and the quality comes through in the taste. I've been there with a large group and as part of a couple. Both experiences were memorable and enjoyable and I look forward to my next visit.4/25/2013 12:00:00 AMFirst time at this restaurant.First time at this restaurant. Arrived with extra person to add to reservation and they were very accommodating for a busy night. Small menu but food was excellent and nice local beer selection. Menu was limited in terms of vegetarian options. Enjoyed the overall experience and we will definitely return.4/25/2013 12:00:00 AMVaried menu and everythingVaried menu and everything was delicious, esp. the lobster bisque! The chocolate souffle was yummy with raspberry and caramel sauces adding sweetness to the less sweet souffle. Will definitely go there again!4/24/2013 12:00:00 AMMy sister was here from CanadaMy sister was here from Canada and we all loved it. Would highly recommend it.4/24/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat start... Let-down finish.Great (and unexpected) amuse bouche, great salads, great drinks, great service, lousy entrees. It was a shame, because everything had gone so well up to that point. Well, we'll probably go back for apps and drinks, but go elsewhere for our main course. It's on the pricey-end by Asheville standards as well.4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMCharming and sophisticated ChestnutChestnut is a recent addition to Asheville's growing dining scene on Biltmore Avenue, in the heart of downtown. Their commitment to fresh and local is evident in the daily menus, with acknowledgement of items sourced in the area. Though the menu is simple, it is diverse, and offers many delicious ways to create a meal from starters, salads, medium plates, or large plates. Desserts are imaginative and include traditional favorites, including homemade pies. The lemon curd cheesecake with blueberry compote is lighter and fresher than most cheesecakes, and is a delightful finish. Service at Chestnut is friendly and professional, and the bar is beautiful with its chestnut paneling and skillful renderings of cocktails by the bartender.4/18/2013 12:00:00 AMWonderful food and service.Wonderful food and service. It is nice to be able to order wonderful food at small plate sizes4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMI chose this restaurant solelyI chose this restaurant solely on the menu and the stellar reviews from others on opentable. There were 5 in our party for lunch and we each had different items. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed their choice. Definitely will be returning in the future.4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMAmbience and the service wasAmbience and the service was great. Food was not up to usual high standards. However, overall, a good experience.4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat addition to downtown! This place continues to impress us. I had the strip steak and it was quite good. My girlfriend had the flounder and it was equally as good, if not better. I had a nice glass of wine too, yummy. I look forward to our next time there!4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMChestnut is a relatively newChestnut is a relatively new sister restaurant to Corner Kitchen in Biltmore Village. We have long thought Corner Kitchen was one of the best restaurants in Asheville and have now added Chestnut to that list. We recognized some of the same ingredients used by Corner Kitchen, but Chestnut has their own menu. Chestnut will be added to our rotation of Asheville dining and special events. We're looking forward to going back.4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMwe had a fine time and werewe had a fine time and were pleased with the food and the white bordeaux.4/12/2013 12:00:00 AMChestnut was a wonderful experienceChestnut was a wonderful experience. The service was excellent, the noise level low enough to converse, but with enough background noise so we weren't hearing the conversations of others. The sheepshead and swordfish were amazing!!! I would recommend this to anyone who is interested in a wonderful food experience.4/8/2013 12:00:00 AMQuintessential Asheville experienceThis was our second visit to Chestnut and once again it was wonderful. Our first visit was for Brunch and I fell in love after the first bite. This visit was for dinner Saturday and we split three dishes and each was wonderful. Also, the guy seating you when you arrive is hilarious and wonderful.4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMChestnut fits right in!Chestnut is an excellent restaurant and a great addition to a town with an already memorable collection of fine dining establishments.
Medium plates: lobster risotto cakes and Chesnut's carbonara w/crab were delicious and well priced.4/3/2013 12:00:00 AMA new gem in Asheville. TrulyA new gem in Asheville. Truly one of the best and should not be missed. Reservations are usually needed. The staff is very knowledgeable about all the food and the way it is prepared. We go at least once a month.3/31/2013 12:00:00 AMWonderful food and service!Wonderful food and service! My husband and I both ordered the Dill Pesto Salmon (per the suggestion of our waiter) and it was outstanding. We also munched on the bread basket and charcuterie platter-- both great. The ambiance was fresh, the layout of the restaurant was beautiful and we will definitely be dining there again!3/31/2013 12:00:00 AMAlways a reliable treat.Always a reliable treat. Well priced for delightful selections. Great bar service though I wouldn't call it a "bar scene". Just a nice place to meet.3/31/2013 12:00:00 AMWe had Easter Brunch and itWe had Easter Brunch and it was so good.We were fotunate to get some of the homemade chestnut glazed donuts which were unbelievable. The bloody Marys were the best Ive had and the eggs benedict perfect3/31/2013 12:00:00 AMWe were there for Easter SundayWe were there for Easter Sunday Brunch. Had heard great recommendations from friends and our experience lived up to their reputation. We cannot wait to go back!3/31/2013 12:00:00 AMWe had an absolutely delightful--inWe had an absolutely delightful--in every sense of the word--dining experience at Chestnut as we celebrated my birthday with friends! The young woman who helped us have such a wonderful evening was an exceptional "server" who had obviously paid close attention to the special notes I had made on the Open Table reservation form---she wished me a "Happy Birthday" immediately and took complete care of my partner's sensitivities to garlic. She was extremely attentive and assisted us with much skill and enthusiasm throughout the evening! The mussels were the best I've ever had and all of us kept commenting on how excellent the food was--desserts always get rave reviews too!!3/30/2013 12:00:00 AMVery nice, beautiful and theVery nice, beautiful and the food was really great!3/29/2013 12:00:00 AMNice but not much for vegetariansChestnut is a very nice restaurant, a little pricey but the dishes are creative and very good. My one complaint is that it is not particularly vegetarian friendly. On my first visit on a slow day for lunch, the manager assured me that, although there were very few vegetarian dishes on the menu, they could eliminate the protein on many of the entrees and make it vegetarian. On our second visit for dinner, there was one vegetarian option and the waiter was not very helpful in telling what they could offer me other than the listed entree and never offered taking the protein out of an entree. If I 'designed' my own plate it would have been just a bunch of side dishes on a plate so I ordered the vegetarian dish which was very good, but heavy3/29/2013 12:00:00 AMDelicious cocktails with allDelicious cocktails with all made from scratch ingredients and a creative food menu.3/29/2013 12:00:00 AMDefinitely one of the topDefinitely one of the top restaurants in Asheville. Has it all, excellent food, service and ambiance.3/23/2013 12:00:00 AMOverall excellent. The musselsOverall excellent. The mussels in the Thai curry sauce is delicious. Rhonda the waitress is always excellent!3/23/2013 12:00:00 AMAnother great meal at Chesnut. We had dinner with friends and started with 3 apps. Charcuterie, Calamari and the Lobster Risotto Cakes. All were fanatastic. They do most of the meats on the Charcuterie in house and the flavors really shine. Three of us got the Sheepshead, one got the Strip Steak and our daughter got the Carbonara from the medium plate choices.
The fish was cooked perfectly with a nice Buerre Blanc that relayy enhanced the flavor of the fish and the Hoppin' John it rested on. The fried picked okra was also great.
The steak also had a great flavor and was cooked perfectly. The homeade steak sauce added just the right amount of enhancement to the flavor. My daughter really enjoyed her Carbonara and the portion was perfect.3/23/2013 12:00:00 AMABSOLUTELY FABULOUS!!!This was one of the best dining experiences I HAVE EVER HAD! ABSOLUTELY the best combination of FABULOUS and COMFORTABLE!!! Our waiter was attentive, attractive, and fun! The bar manager was handsome, friendly, talented and creative. The owner was accessible and friendly. Other employees were smiling and enjoying themselves. The facility was clean with a modern and classic combination. Oh, yes- the food! I haven't even mentioned how tasty everything was! Very fresh and perfectly balanced. Everything was made there- clearly- and with very high quality ingredients. Chestnut was worth every single penny we (my date) paid for it. In fact, he gave about a 35% tip because we enjoyed everything so much!
BRAVO CHESTNUT!3/23/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat bartenders, very friendlyGreat bartenders, very friendly staff, great food.3/22/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food was excellent. TheyThe food was excellent.
