Diner Reviews
  • "For a quiet business lunch or tete-a-tete with a friend, Chateau West is perfect. I had the amberjack over roasted red peppers, and it was delicious and healthy."

  • "Great food and drink. This restaurant did not disappoint us. Beginning with a full pot of mussels, Foiegras, and brie and truffle oil fondue starters, french bread, then the beautifully fillet-at-your-table (whole) Sea bass and very tasty duck breast, we were thoroughly satisfied. By the way, the wine prices are reasonable. Deserts looked great, but we were too full from the generous portions. We will definitely come back! Keep up the good work!"

  • "Who would have thought that a lovely French restaurant, reasonably priced, would appear in Nashville sandwiched between a Mapco and a Dairy Queen! Chateau West is that place...simple, elegant menu; quiet; great wine list; friendly, courteous service. What a find!"

  • "I have been there three times now and it is always good. Like that Dino is the msnager. Have known him at other places over time."

  • "Our service was great. We had a nice conversation prior to dinner with the manager. Everyone was pleasant and supportive. The bar menu is adequate, but needs work. A move toward specialized high quality cocktails would improve the attraction to this restaurant. The food quality is excellent....two in our party had the sea bass, which was prepared well and de-boned at the table. One in party had the filet, again excellent and the other person in our party had the boeuf bourguignon which was best we have had outside of Paris. All desserts had great presentations and were delicious. We will be back."

  • "Great restaurant BUT Open Table did not get my reservations through. The only bad note I can make is regard to Open Table. Maybe they need to make sure that the restaurant actually gets and/or reads the reservation request."

  • "My wife and I entertained out of town guests. The experience could not have been better. The meal from appetizer to dessert was excellent as was the wine recommendation."

  • "Dinner was so wonderful that I went back the next day for lunch. The menu is classic French, with all that that implies. The food is much richer and heavier than the nouvelle cuisine and farm-to-table fare that are so popular these days - and what a luxurious alternative. It is like maroon velvet drapery compared to a sheer ecru scarf - you may love them both, but only the former makes you feel warm and safe from a cold and unforgiving world. Vive la France!"

  • "For the hefty price, there are really several places in West End or East Nashville with better food. I found the beginning salad to be very pedestrian, and the entrees to be a little better but barely more than simple. I did like the inside--looks like a long chalet. Definitely a unique look."

  • "Everything was great except for plumbing problems as they fully acknowledged patrons. Hopefully this take care of this issue quickly. Didn't check out wine list, but noticed they had a lot of wine available. Food was excellent."

  • "Pretty restaurant. The waitress was overbearing and a poor listener. The escargot was tough but everything else was quite nice. The menu was not what we had checked out online. A bit disappointing but we might try it again."

  • "We had a lovely time. The food was wonderful. The waiter was able to answer all questions, and he was very attentive. We were celebrating my husband's birthday. We will definitely go back."

  • "We were there on a Sunday night, maybe we picked the wrong day of the week? On Sunday's there are no menu specials. All 4 of us ordered different appetizers and entrees. We considered the steak to be the best choice. Lamb chops were greasy, tasted as if they had been prepared earlier in the day. Salads were large enough for 2 but unimaginative"

  • "We went for Father's Day brunch. All food ordered was delicious! We had steak & eggs, French toast, chicken divan crepe and croque monsiour. Our only complaint was slow service. We waited too long to order and too long for the check, etc. The server was very friendly and maybe just extra busy that day. We will be back."

  • "We went out with some friends who highly praise the food, service, and atmosphere at Chateau West. Some of the dishes ordered were excellent: steak tartar, scallops, filet, and the one of the fondues. They were all fabulous! I, on the other hand, ordered escargot and the brie fondue... not so great. Neither had much flavor, and the escargot was a little too firm. I didn't eat very much until I got home and fixed something else. Needless to say, if 3 out of 4 patrons had a good experience, the odds are in your favor for having an excellent meal. I would just avoid my two dishes. I also need to point out that the service was exceptionally good. We didn't have to wait for anything; they anticipated our every need."

  • "Had been driving by for a couple months and was intrigued. Suggested we try it for lunch. SO glad we did! Our waitress was so knowledgeable and warm. Food was perfection, simply said. We will make this a weekly go-to!"

  • "This turned out to be a very disappointing dining experience. The menu was uninspiring and lacks creative flair. The food, sadly, was equally unimpressive. The two appetizers we tried (steak tartare and mussels) were mediocre at best. However, the worst part of the meal was the entrees. We both ordered the scallops which turned out to be so rubbery and bland that we sent them back after only one bite. I then tried the chicken tagine which was reasonably tasty. My friend selected the salmon salad and described it as edible but nothing special. Overall, the meal was sadly lacking. Our main server was skillful and polished, but the assistant servers were inept and poorly trained."

  • "not what I expected. Obviously, a lot has been invested in rehabbing a former IHop, and I felt this was the high point of the evening. Valet parking is only option as there is very limited parking. We had a reservation and were seated promptly. Our waitress was friendly, familiar with the menu, and our food was served in a timely fashion. My biggest disappointment was the entrees. My date really enjoyed the scallops, but my sea bass (fileted table-side) was tasteless. Appetizers and desert were both good but nothing special. Given the prices, high noise level, and quality of the food, we won't be going back. Sadly, I'd have a hard time recommending Chateau West to a friend. "

  • "Menu was varied enough for our party of six to enjoy multiple choices."

  • "What a nice addition to an area that needed an upscale food choice. Very accommodating. Excellent menu and good entre selections for those of us who have our main meal at lunch (though nice sandwich selections too). Desserts looked wonderful. Next time, which there will definitely be, it's French Onion Soup and the Sampler Dessert for me. "

  • "I had an early lunch with a party of four at Chateau West and loved it. The quich special included duck, which was simply wonderful. My colleagues had salmon and avacodo sandwichs and the chicken cordon blue sandwich. Everyone thought the food was perfect. We were there a little before noon, so it was quiet. I will return. "

  • "I thoroughly enjoyed lunch at Chateau West! I have eaten there 3 times over the past 2 weeks and each time was great. Very good food, service and ambience. I highly recommend it for lunch. Hoping to try dinner next!"

  • "Our server was very knowledgeable, paired the perfect wines with our appetizer and dinner, and was pleasant. The bread was a perfect blend of crusty and tender. The food (scallops; lamp chops; duck) was served at the perfect temperature and tasty! The side compliments were perfect (sweet potato souffle; grilled veggies; potato hash, respectively). Price perfect for such a well-prepared, unique meal. "

  • "Dined at Chateau West on Mother's Day. Lovely building, the food was wonderful. My only complaints- the service was not good- our waiter was not pleasant- just got the job done (slowly), We had reservations, yet had to wait near 30 minutes to be seated, and then 15 minutes after that to get water. $45 for the brunch was a bit pricey. Overall, I would go back and hope for a different waiter on a special occasion. "

  • "We went for mother's day. Prix-fixe menu with 1 child option, which was just a small adult entree. Our server never brought us a wine list or asked about drink orders beyond sparkling water. We had to ask twice for my son's lemonade. Never checked if we liked our food. I had finished my delicious scallops entrée before we could flag her down to replace my husband's overcooked lamb. We were excited to try but will go back to table 3 for our French food."

  • " Food was excellent, especially the scallop dish and the salmon special. The service was pretty good for a very crowded week-end night of Vanderbilt Graduation and Mother's Day. Staff was struggling somewhat to keep up with the crowd and special orders -- for example, they ran out of forks for the fondue appetizer and had to bring us what I would call a shrimp cocktail fork, a dull metal trident that did not pick up the bread well. Noise level was very high, again probably amplified by lots of celebratory groups. Previous visit on a week-night was much more suited to conversation and leisurely enjoyment of the cuisine, but this was a night for celebration so might as well join in."

  • "The menu leans much more toward the classic French cuisine that you might find in better French Restaurants, and was all done very tastefully. The wine list is not extensive, but was thorough enough for my taste. And the service was excellent. All in all, a top notch dining experience. "

  • "Celebrated a birthday dinner for friend. Came to Chateau West upon the recommendation of a friend. We thoroughly enjoyed it. Close to our neighborhood, quiet enough for conversation, and well executed french cuisine. We will return."

  • "A dear friend took me to Chateau West for lunch for my birthday. It was the first visit for both and was my pick. I had read a review in Scene Magazine and was surprised that I had never heard of it since we are both acquainted with most of the popular restaurants in Nashville. The two of us had zero complaints regarding our experience. Joe, our server, was friendly, attentive, professional and very helpful with our selections. The food met both our expectations, the noise level was low--we could actually talk quietly and hear one another, and all in all a very delightful experience. I would and will go back."

  • "The food was fantastic, the service on the other hand was awful. We felt rushed throughout our meal. Our server spoke too quiet to hear & fumbled over the evenings specials while recalling his notes which made it impossible to understand the specials. As the server was passing our table with a water pitcher he spilled about a glass worth of water down the back of my girlfriend dress and back. Barely apologizing and acting like it happens all of the time only returned with a single napkin to help clean. Thankful that this was not wine, but we expected more than just a single apology. I took a chance on your restaurant for a very special occasion, and left severely disappointed. I doubt that we will return because of the service we received."

  • "We arrived at our reserved time and our table was waiting for us. The server was actively engaging and took time with us. The food was good, but not exceptional. Perhaps a bit too much olive oil was used on one diner's fish dish. The restaurant was out my selection for "wine-by-the-glass", but my alternate choice was fine. My major complaint would be the noise level; at times it was hard to converse with my fellow three diners, and I'm not hard of hearing. This probably has to do with the odd and high ceilings which serve to amplify the noise. If the restaurant is full. it's quite noisy, which detracts from a fine dining experience."

  • "For under $100.00 we experienced drinks, fondue, entrees, deserts and coffees in a wonderful atmosphere of elegant dining. The food was unbelievable. The Camembert fondue was rich and delightful. The wine was a full body red. The scallops and fish dishes were simply amazing. Dessert was vanilla and chocolate cream burlee . My husband requested a special dessert due to health needs of strawberry and cream la fresh. It was no problem for the staff to accommodate this. I love Chateau West."

  • "I have dined at Chateau West 6 times. This is the kind of place that develops a following. The best meal I had there was the first one and at least two of those items are no longer on the menu: a fried seafood platter for appetizer and a delicate sole cooked perfectly. I seldom eat a filet but the one I ordered there a month ago was perfectly prepared, without a lot of extra seasoning and could be cut with a fork. The salad nicoise is delightfully fresh, unlike a lot of other versions throughout town. I seldom order wine here, just a cocktail that lasts through dinner, but from comments heard, it is serviceable, which is many times better than pages of high-priced wines with lesser knowns by the glass. I recommend Chateau West."

  • "Chateau is in our neighborhood so we just walked over. I love being able to do that. Pleasant greeting and a choice of tables. We each enjoyed a glass of Proseco and a little fondue. Could not taste the miel or truffle, but otherwise it was tasty. It tasted better with the baguette than with the little puffs. The pomodoro pasta was simple, well prepared with a touch of butter. Service was good. My friend will return with her family to celebrate her husband's birthday."
