Diner Reviews
  • "The decor and food are both very dated. My husband got a crusted mahi dish, which was good. I got a simply prepared halibut, which was overcooked and dry. I said something to the waitress who offered to replace it but then realized she was out of all the options that interested me so I ended up declining a replacement dish. She didn't offer to remove the charge (which is what any self respecting restaurant at this or any price point would do) or even comp our drink, appetizer, salad or dessert. We had an amazing meal the next day at another restaurant, which included halibut, was less expensive and entirely superior."

  • "notice we were not given a window table. Also the noise level was too high at our table. It was as if the gentleman behind me was yelling in my ear."

  • "Been here a bunch of times over the years and this time they let us down. Only one meal out of four was very good (coconut shrimp) while the seared mahi was dry and seemed broiled with no sign of a sear. The tilapia was pretty good but the jasmine rice was bland and dry. Finally, the crusted mahi was small and the peanut sauce was a little too sweet. Though the reservation was made a week in advance on open table we were placed in a back corner near the waiters station with several open tables elsewhere, it was obvious they were spreading tables amongst the staff. Service was decent but $200 for the meals with only waters was not nearly worth it given the number of high quality restraunt a in Monterey. I may go back?"

  • "My boyfriend took me here for my birthday and it was so good. The atmosphere was great! The service was good. And the view...breath taking! Great spot for occasions!"

  • "With the no reservation rule for window tables, we made an early reservation. The dining experience was great except that we were guided to the worst window table first next to the bar wall and looking at the building next door. When I asked to have an empty better one, we were asked to stand in the isle while he "checked". We got the better table, but with the first come first serve rule about view tables, why should I have to ask?....Want a tip??? Other than that little twist, the evening was a 5."

  • "The restaurant's white table cloths and gorgeous view of Monterey Bay had me intrigued from the moment I walked in. The service was excellent and the waitress' knowledge of the menu helped me to feel confident in my entree decision. The macadamia nut crusted mahi-mahi was seasoned perfectly and the Asian green beans complimented it perfectly. The lava cake was out of this world and left me begging for more. Out of the three quality restaurants I dined at during my stay in Monterey, the Chart House was far and away the best."

  • "Our waitress was fabulous. We both had prime rib and it was cooked perfectly. The view is amazing. And they're salad bar is huge."

  • "Consistently outstanding food. Nice setting on Monterey Bay. Nice facility, only minor drawback is young or inexperienced waitresses - they try and are very polite but clearly are not pros. No onsite parking. None the less I consider this to be a very well run facility and I've been in 5-stars all over the world. Printed our menu with Happy Seventh Anniversary - nice touch."

  • "We were the first to arrive, 10 mins before our reservation time, which was opening time. About 15 other diners who arrived after us were seated before us. Some had already been served their food before we were seated. Waiter and/or kitchen made two mistakes on a simple order for three, which required them to send back one entree while the other two were served. Food taste was uneven, being either bland or jarring. Had to ask for ketchup to liven up a $35 fish dish. Music was overly loud, piped through cheap speakers and consisted of radio top 40. We've been eating here for many years, but this was nothing special, except for the nice view and expensive bill. I frequent several other far-less-expensive restaurants that offer better food."

  • "We made reservations 3 weeks ago for the Chart House for two of us. We were seated next to the bar, crammed into a small table in a crowded area. We could not even see into the main dining room that has all the windows overlooking the bay. We ordered filet mignon's which came with a very salty sauce that the menu did not mention. Overall, I was very disapointed as we had been looking forward to going there!"

  • "The server gave excellent service and the food was amazing food complaints none, little pricey for lobster, salad and glass if wine your spending around 62.00 it was perfect for our 12 Year anniversary. Would go again."

  • "Although steak is on the menu, it may be nothing more than an accommodation to those who aren't into seafood. The New York strip I had was mushy almost tasteless and somewhat overcooked. IT had the texture of a piece of meat that was frozen too long. It wasn't bad, just not as good as it should have been. I'll give them another try at some later date, but it was a bit of a disappointment."

  • "Classic steak house with the added benefit of good fish as well. My only complaint was the waitress. She just wasn't friendly and did not make us feel good about dining there. Unfortunate."

  • "We chose Chart House to celebrate our 25th Wedding Anniversary. It certainly did not disappoint. We had an awesome view of the bay. We received specially printed menus that we could take as keepsakes - that was pretty special. The food and service were great! We've never had Oysters Rockefeller before and they were delicious. Our entrees - pan seared scallops and grilled shrimp and artichoke fettuccini were outstanding. The complementary mud pie was a special treat as well. We will definitely recommend Chart House to family and friends. Thank you!"

  • "A higher end dining experience on Cannery Row. Outstanding food, and a very interesting menu -> not just the standard Cannery Row seafood menu. Beautiful view of Monterey Bay. Service was very good. I would highly recommend for a special dinner for visitors."

  • "I used to come here more often, but the prices are getting too high for regular dining. The entree of a steak included mashed potatoes only, no vegetable. We were offered to "upgrade" to a baked potato; a side of vegetable was $8 extra. The entree of seafood plate tasted good at first, but then it all started tasting the same. We preferred a more rounded plate of food for a dinner (including main dish, potatoes or rice, and vegetable). Waiter lacked a friendly attitude (a little too scripted and formal for our likes). This is a relaxing location with an outstanding ocean-view."

  • "Whenever in Monterey we eat here. We got there at opening for window seat. Despite a reservation and arriving a few minutes early we were made to wait nearly fifteen minutes even though they had been open for happy hour for thirty minutes and there was no lack of tables. This Chart House still has a salad bar and while it is an anachronism it was enjoyable. The prime rib was nice although served on a too hot plate so what started as rare ended up medium. A fish entrée was properly cooked and enjoyable. They've dumbed-down the mud pie over the years but it was still enjoyable. One real downer was the crab pico de gallo which was part of a special but which we requested a serving of just for the fun of it. It was served hot. 'Nuf said."

  • "We celebrated our daughter's 16th birthday here, at a table overlooking the water. The staff were very pleasant and made us feel welcome from the moment we walked in. We liked the personalized menus, a nice touch for the birthday girl. The food was excellent and the portions were perfect - generous but not too much. We particularly liked the calamari and hummus appetizers and the way they were presented. Steaks and seafood main courses were all delicious. Service was outstanding. Attentive but not overly so. We enjoyed a very special evening and will go back."

  • "We ordered a prime rib medium rare, but when it came out, it was clearly medium well (mostly brown with little pink). The waiter said that it was probably due to the green tint on the windows but took it back anyway. The second one he brought out was cooked the same way as the first one and even had a hair in the horseradish sauce! The waited said that this was the rarest piece that the kitchen could make since it is slow-roasted in the oven. They compensated us for the steak, which would have been fine, but as we were leaving, we saw the table next to us with a medium rare prime rib. That just left us with a bad impression of the place. We will not be back and will not be recommending Chart House to anyone we know."

  • "I have been to Chart Houses in Orange County and San Diego with mixed experiences. I am happy to report that THIS Chart House exceeded any expectations I had. I made a reservation to celebrate my wedding anniversary through Open Table because of the decent reviews. I had put a small note in my reservation stating that since this was my 12th wedding anniversary, to please put us at a table by the window (with an ocean view, of course). When we arrived, they put us at a table by the bar. We requested to be moved, which they did without any hassle. The best part was when the hostess handed our menus to us and the top of our menus was printed 'Happy 12th Anniversary, Mr. and Mrs....!!!'. It was such a nice surprise. Bravo Chart House!"

  • "My full review is on Yelp under Bees K. 3 stars for this night. We frequent this place for special occasions. We also know not every establishment can be spot on. We did have a positive experience with one server and a the exact opposite with another on the same night. Food was excellent. Stuffed shrimp and Macadamia crusted Mahi."
