Our service was bad; food mediocre at best (herb artichoke appetizer & herb crusted salmon); wine list not great. The setting continues to be special-not much beats that view. Sad to say we wouldn't go back."

  • "THIS Chart House is our "go to" spot if we want a romantic dining experience. It sits up on a hill over looking Dana Point Harbor and facing west , toward the ocean. If you ask, they will really try to get you a window seat but reserve well in advance and go around sunset for a great view. I told them about our anniversary when making the reservation (3 weeks earlier) and upon being seated, they handed us menus with our names and "congratulations on you 42nd anniversary from the Dana Point Chart House" on the top. The server was very knowledgeable of the menu. My wife has some tummy issues and the server offered options to solve this. She was super attentive and the shift manager came by at least 3 times to see if all was well."

  • "This was our 4th annual trip back to Laguna Beach/Dana Point area. We always set aside one evening for a great time with my now 17 year old daughter & her friend. The staff is very attentive and the service is spot on with our server making excellent wine recommendation on my behalf. The Filet Mignon was cooked exactly as ordered - medium rare. Great night at the Chart House. Will be back next year without fail."

  • "With out a gift card we likely never would have come to this restaurant since it's a bit pricy. My date loved his steak and the asparagus he ordered on the side. I loved the veggie ragout that came with my fish but the fish seemed slightly off. I love sea bass and this was just a bit fishier tasting than usual. I didn't want to say anything and worry my date but didn't finish it all because of this. Portions on both plates were filling and he is a big eater and couldn't finish either."

  • "Our dining experience was terrific. We were given a booth with a view which was breathtaking. Our server was professional, friendly, and catered to our every need. Was watchful of our water glass, bread, butter, etc. and checked back with us for any needs in a time frame that was attentive but not bothersome. Explained our questions regarding menu choice. Manager walked around periodically and stopped by each both or table to inquire about our experience at the Chart House Ambiance is wonderful because of the view. Restaurant itself is beautiful. I do wish they still had the elevator that used to go from the parking lot down to the restaurant."

  • "We arrived and the valet came quickly and was very polite. We went the the receptionist and asked for our reservation and she ask if we would like to be seated right away (early) "yes please". The waiter Chris came to the table in a timely manner. He was a good server. Drinks were good, stuffed Mushrooms were ok (not as good as we remembered them to be or at other places), the Mac Mahi was a little dry, the Alaskan Crab may have been over cooked and didn't have much flavor. The Manager can by to see how things were. We told him about the crab, he offered to get us something else. We did... the Lobster. Well, that was much better."

  • "If you are new to the area, you will be in awe of the restaurants design and location! The views are spectacular even from the parking lot! There is an outdoor bar that is perched over the cliffs that descend to the harbor and marina. From most all points of the restaurant there is a far-reaching view of the harbor and ocean all the way down to the County line. The salad bar is fantastic for those looking to build a salad. The menu is extensive and gives a wide variety of choices for even the most discriminating diner. They are known for both their steaks and their fish dishes. The fish is always fresh and the meat is tender. Our server was very friendly, efficient, and always available. Don't miss out on the hot lave cake!"

  • "This resturant has a wonderful view. However the wait staff leaves you wondering how can such a beautiful venue can have an unpolish wait staff. That being said the host and hostess were very welcoming and I had great hopes for the evening. Then our server came to the table forgot to bring wine glasses and then did not pour the wine. From there it went downhill. No water refill ect."

  • "What a treat! The ambiance was fantastic-- We had reservations for sunset, and watched the harbor below change to all the golden hues.... Incredible!! The meals were great, 5 in our party. We all had seafood dishes. Mine was the grilled Mahi and it was superb. The others had shrimp dishes- also great. The service was excellent. I have been to the CH in Cardiff also, they are both wonderful, but I give a slight nod to this one for the view."

  • "The Charthouse is a classic. The design of the building is so beautiful and the views that overlook the ocean are breathtaking. The hostess stand was very distracted and disorganized. No greeting upon entry, very delayed response to a new guest entering. So the first impression was off setting. We were seated at a lovely table and our server was excellent. Very professional, welcoming and engaging. We were celebrating our anniversary so we appreciated the special touch of the personalized menus as well as the free mud pie. The salad bar was the standout feature! The entrees were ok, average but not incredible. It was a good dining experience overall, I would return simply because of the building, views and salad bar."

  • "My boyfriend and I accidentally stumbled upon this restaurant the last time we were in Dana Point and promised we would go back and have dinner. The service and the food was great -- but the view is out of this world! I'm sure the locals are well aware of this gem. I would recommend this place, especially to tourists who would like a good meal overlooking the fabulous Pacific Ocean."

  • "Phenomenal view!! I loved seeing the lights of the Harbor! Food was really good! It was our first time, Yelp said the attire was Dressy and it was a classy and romantic ambience, so thats what we expected. When the hostess was seating us she told us about the salad bar and I felt like that didnt fit Yelps description, not something you would usually find at a "classy and dressy" place, thats just me though, I bet it's amazing! But it just kind of threw us off a little bit, but other than that it was really good place, and you can beat the views!!"

  • "Despite the fact that we had reservations we had to wait 40 minutes for a table. We saw two parties who arrived later than we did get seated right away. When I questioned the hostess about this, she said that they were seated because they were larger groups. It is interesting to note that we were a party of four and the others were parties of six and five. It was extremely disconcerting to see later arrivals get seated immediately while we waited and waited. Although we were seated at a window table and the view was fantastic, I doubt that we will return. We were hoping for a special birthday celebration but instead ended up being extremely disappointed. The waitress, however, was fabulous."

  • "After going to this restaurant for over 20 years (or more)..................we now feel The Only Good Thing About The Restaurant is the view. The food IS NOT CONSISTANT. Sometimes you have a decent meal, sometimes not. This time I had prime rib (NOT TENDER), MASHED POTATOES WERE TERRIBLE, cesear salad very ordinary, and we ordeedr a side of creamed spinach. Stringy. I would only suggest this restaurant to people for the view (and the Lava Cake)."

  • "The view from the Chart House rates up there with the best. If you have the opportunity to eat out on the patio, do it. When it is still daylight, you have a complete panorama of the Dana Point Harbor along with the many sailboats out in the ocean. After sunset, the lights start coming on along the coast and you can see from San Clemente to North San Diego county. The menu is varied with interesting appetizers - the calamari plate was exceptional -with a good selection of fresh fish served in several different ways. It isn't inexpensive but is certainly worth the tab."

  • "After long waits for everything, even the starter bread and water, my husands fish entrée was inedible, and for the first time in 24 years of marriage, I saw him send his plate back. And when the bill came, that item was not removed, and we were not even offered a free dessert or drink! What a shame, because the view is incredible, but you cannot rest on that, you need great food and service"

  • "We use to eat at the Chart House and it has been sometime since we have been there. We had a gift card so that is actually what brought us back there. We had a reservation but had to still wait about 20 minutes once we arrived. The waiter was friendly but slow. Our food took forever to come out and my fish was warm not hot. My husband ordered steak and to was dry. We had order the signature lava cake that costs $10.99 and it was the size of a small cupcake. Really !?!? For the price I would have expected more.This is place we probably will not go back again."

The food was wonderful, stuffed mushrooms, tilapia, and sea bass. All sides were great, as well. Creme brulee for dessert. There is nothing negative I can say about our sunset dinner at Chart House."

  • "The Chart House has a magnificent location and jaw dropping views. Unfortunately, the food is flavorless and poorly prepared, the service is lack luster and the prices are sky high. To top it off, the glassware, dishes and flatware were grimy. The person who wrote the descriptions for the entrees should spend a few moments with the chef sometime and explain that "crispy pan seared" is not the same as soggy and over cooked, "light and fluffy" is wholly different from gummy and, most disappointing, "molten" means luscious and liquid not heavy and dry. Don't bother looking for your server if you need anything, they only show up to take your order and to deliver your check."

  • "The chef at the Chart House is outstanding. We went during OC restaurant week so ate more than we needed - but each dish was outstanding - the soup, the shrimp, the macademia-crusted-mahi mahi, the chocolate lava cake and the creme brule. Enjoy!"

  • "THE SERVICE: Had a reservation and hostesses were very accommodating about where to seat us. Our waiter was a cool guy. He and the manager told us about the special Landry's card that we decided to sign up for at the end of the night. THE AMBIANCE: Really interesting entrance to the restaurant, easy to find street parking, really liked the interior design of the dining area, had nice views of the harbor outside. Carpet and some of the upholstery seems outdated. THE FOOD: Decided to do the OC Restaurant Week menu. Wedge salad was very unappetizing. Boyfriend's coconut shrimp was overcooked. We both got prime rib, cooked medium, and it was perfectly juicy. One of the best prime ribs I've had. Creme brulee for dessert, which was good."

  • "The location is great. It is hard to beat. Our waiter was not very attentive. I had to find him to get a refill on water. I had the three soup sampler and found the lobster bisque may have been a bit shy on saffron. The clam chowder was equal to anything in Dana Point Harbor but the gezpacho was quite tasty. I had coconut shrimp which was fine and my wife had a seafood medley. The salmon was okay but the crab cake had salmon stuffed in it. I guess it was a way to address OM or margins. My son gave us gift cards which included the Chart House. Our next stop will be Morton's in Orange County, CA. My son says it is great. Ticotom"

  • "My boyfriend and I chose Charthouse to dine at for an early Valentine's day dinner. Our server was very attentive but not excessive to where we could still enjoy our conversation. I had the filet mignon and my boyfriend had the mixed seafood plate. We both enjoyed our meals, the ahi tuna appetizer, and our wine choice. Would definitely eat here again and recommend to friends and family."
