  • "Not sure why this was my first visit to Charleston!? It will certainly not be the last!! The entire experience ranks with the best I have ever had, including The Inn at Little Washington. The staff was fantastic, I found everyone we came in contact to be personable, fun and informative. The service was unrushed and extremely attentive. We had the 4 course with the wine pairing. Every course was delicious and the wines paired perfectly. We finished with desert and a glass of port. Chef also stopped by our table to thank us for dining with them. The entire experience was worth every penny. When in Baltimore you must dine at Charleston"

  • "This is truly a 5 star restaurant and I felt like a queen on my birthday.Everything was perfect !In addition to the food, the best martini anywhere! My only tiny little complaint is that a dress code isn't enforced. I realize that there are very few resturants left requiring that men wear a jacket but men in jeans and golf shirts on a Saturday night? Even the guy next to us who was also celebrating a birthday had a nice shirt on but not tucked in. His date was dressed to the nines! Just a pet peeve of mine."

  • "My sister and our spouses went to dinner to celebrate her birthday and my anniversary. It was perfect evening, our food, the waitstaff, all the way down to the dessert. Everyone was very attentive. Can't wait to go back!"

  • "The ambience is superb, quiet, charming and elegant. The food is to die for especially the foie gras. I would definitely go back to experience more main dishes and deserts like the soufflé. The hosts were helpful in explaining the specialties of the restaurant."

  • "The service this time was better than previously. It was helpful and not intimidating. The menu is spectacular and the small portions are entertaining and delicious."

  • "If you're looking for somewhere fancy for a special occasion in Baltimore, this is the place. It's a different kind of menu construction - you pick your number of courses, and then select what they'll be - with portions being smaller so you can have more variety. This is great for people who like to try a lot off a menu, but have a normal appetite. Everything was absolutely delicious, service was attentive, and the space itself was swanky."

  • "The measuring stick of what a fine dining restaurant should be. Every detail thought of. Never felt a drop of pretentiousness and they have every right to be. Well worth the $$$."

  • "The food was delicious, and the servings generous. My girlfriend and I tried to make it through 5 courses with the caviar supplement. She is a normal human and gave up halfway through the fourth course; I am a gross fatball and still couldn't completely finish the fifth course. Standouts were the mushroom soup, the cauliflower, and the duck. Each dish was paired with wine that was delicious on its own and sublime as a pairing. Our server detailed the dishes and wines clearly, which is always a treat for me because this stuff can be very confusing. I really enjoyed this meal and look forward to dining there again."

  • "My wife and I went to the Charleston for our anniversary. It was a wonderful experience. The food was awesome and the wait staff were very attentive. My wife had 5 courses and I had 6. Every course was delicious. The course count does not include dessert. We were both very fill when we were finished. We should have listened to Marcy. She said 3 to 4 courses is usually sufficient for most people. We definitely would recommend this restaurant to our friends and family!"

  • "We celebrated my daughter's 32nd birthday here and could not have been more pleased. This is clearly the best restaurant in Baltimore and among the top 5 in the greater Baltimore-DC area. While "pricey" (try New York type prices) it was worth every penny. Each dish was better than the one before it. We were pleased that Cindy Wolf stopped by our table and we had a nice chat with her. She gave us some recommendations for items that were not on the menu. We had two of them and were quite pleased. While we eat out at least one to two times per week, I could only afford to go here on special occasions. But if you are either on an expense account or wanting to celebrate a special event, this is the place. It's marvelous."

  • "Charleston is a fantastic restaurant. We go to Charleston for special occasions and have always had impeccable service. Most of the meal was fantastic. Though some of the menu items were less so. We enjoy the ambiance. We will go back as Charleston is one of the few places in Baltimore that offers caviar. Highly recommend The Charleston!"

  • "Had a 6 course tasting. Waiter hyped rockfish which was oily and fishy. Duck foie gras was so so. Waiter has limited knowledge of wine. He thought the floral fruity wine he recommended was similar to a sancerre. It wasn't. Sancerre should be either grassy or minerally like licking a wet stone"

  • "The food at Charleston continues to amaze and delight. Overall the service is impressive, but on this visit there were problems with the reception. No one was present when we entered and after waiting for a bit were were finally greeted with little more than a "follow me." We just blew this off because we were excited to be having a nice meal. The meal, servers, runners, and cheese lady were impressive and know their dishes. But upon leaving we once again had an issue with reception. We thought our coats would be ready, but they weren't. So we waited. And waited. Finally, as the wait was getting ridiculous we just grabbed our coats ourselves, at which time that same woman made an appearance and quite the rude scene."

  • "We were really excited for the rave reviews but came out disappointed. Food was so so (paella rice overcooked, flavorless fish) compared to better restaurants in DC and service was good. When you take into account what you paid it is really a 'fair' experience overall."

  • "We had a wonderful dinner at Charleston and cannot wait for a return visit. The food was unbelievable and the wine pairings truly enhanced the experience."

  • "My husband, my daughter, and I went to Charleston's to celebrate my daughter's purchasing her first house. We consider ourselves to be foodies for sure and are particularly picky when it comes to fine dining. While we have lived in Baltimore for 12 years, we had only been to Charleston's once before because it is expensive, difficult to get reservations, and we typically choose a steak house. We just happen to stumble upon a reservation that came available at the last minute. We were all blown away by the service, the food, the atmosphere, the wine, and the overall experience. While it was expensive, it was worth it!! You almost don't mind paying for an experience like that when it is so amazing. A must do !!"

  • "We'd never been to Baltimore before so decided to try the Charleston because of its outstanding online reviews. The restaurant totally lived up to those expectations. The menu system they have (you chose any number of items to build your own tasting menu) works very well. Notable dishes were the lobster soup, the octopus salad and the beef. The service was impeccable. Would definitely come back if we're ever in the city again."

  • "Chef Wolf knows how to make your tummy smile. This is by far the best restaurant in the DMV area. I've been going to this restaurant for more than 10 years and she continues to deliver consistently...good food, good service and excellent staff are bar nun above the rest."

  • "Charleston is an excellent restaurant. Fried oysters were the best I've ever had, delicate and sweet. That said, it is also crazy expensive in a way that seems purposeful - (see Thorsten Veblen and conspicuous consumption). After dinner cheeses selections work out to $120 per pound - really? It was hard to focus on the food and not the over-the-top nature of the whole thing. There are other places in Baltimore with food that rivals Charleston's and much less aggressive pricing and attitude. Additionally, the staff seemed to be in conflict about something - dark looks passing back and forth. Very polite and welcoming to guests, but the tone was not cheerful overall."

  • "I was worried that this would be one of those trendy expensive restaurants with great presentation and small dinner portions. While the portions are small, they are rich and delicious. We choose the six course to be sure we did not leave hungry and by the fourth course, we were starting to get full. The food is creative, fresh and delicious. Everything we ate was wonderful. It is a nice relaxing atmosphere. They take their time. They don't rush you out. You are treated like royalty. I borrowed my husbands jacket because I felt a draft whenever the door opened (it was an especially windy day) and within 5 minutes, someone brought me a pashmina to wear. We had a lovely night and it was a great way to celebrate my husbands birthday."

  • "My wife and I loved it! This was a fabulous dining experience. We were treated like we were the only ones in the room. All our servers were so wonderful and friendly and attentive. The food was like no other dining experience we ever had. Served with elegance and flare and the wine paring was second to none. We came for a special event but we will be back and we are not waiting for a special event to take us back!"

  • "My wife and I celebrated our 6 th anniversary on a Tuesday night. Charleston was the perfect experience. We greeted with a happy anniversary and brought to romantic cozy corner which the maître'd had picked out. The table had the roses I had ordered. The waiter presented the menu and introduced a unique menu choice where we could have from 3 to 6 courses. Knowing Ms wolf of course I wanted to try all 6 of her creations. Which incorporates french cuisine with southern tones and all local ingredients. Needless to say the meal was sumptuous, spectacular and decadent. Every dish was a gourmet delight. This was a priceless experience that was well worth every penny. The only experience comparable was Jules Verne in the Eiffel Tower. Magnificent!"

  • "Charleston is one of the two best restaurants in Baltimore, and it always shows you why. Our party of four each had the four course dining menu, choosing 14 different dishes among us. Not one was routine. Shrimp and grits was as delicious as the foie gras course. The service was impeccable. Pappy van Winkle bourbon. Say no more. Charleston is a must in Baltimore."

  • "I always tell everyone that Charleston is my favorite restaurant on earth. Cindy's amazing dishes, Tony's fantastic wine list and the romantic, upscale, but not stuffy vibe make dining there a unique experience. The service is always impeccable. Len, our waiter was great as was our bus boy (from Colombia-didn't get his name). For my birthday this year (a big one), they did not disappoint. We were greeted with "Happy Birthday, Ms. M" when we arrived. My crispy oyster appetizer and the rockfish were amazing. My husband's salad with the chicken livers was divine. My dessert, cake with a meyer lemon frosting was the perfect ending. Charleston remains my favorite restaurant "on earth"."

  • "The food and ambiance was very very good. However, I think the price is way too much money for what you received. Our server was very very nice. We were celebrating our anniversary and I was choosing between two desserts so as a surprise to us, she brought them both out to us. Very Sweet."

  • "My family, of four, visited Charleston on a Saturday evening. The atmosphere and food were outstanding. My children (ages 14 and 19) were able to experience first-hand the meaning of "fine dining"."

  • "The food here surpasses my expectations. The 3 courses we selected were equally delicious, beautifully presented, and the wine pairing perfect. Chef Wolf visited our table, sent out an extra platter of fried oysters (melt in your mouth). The sommelier also came by and answered questions. Would go back in a heartbeat."
